I love this DMV. You never heard that before I bet! Are they crowded? Yes. Is there a wait? Yes, probably. But are they super friendly, wonderfully local, and as efficient as they possible can be while also remaining accurate and ethical? Also yes! Do they do their best to manage the flow of traffic? Yes. They have a person that waylays you when you get there to find out what you need and suggest which line to get in (very helpful and eliminates doubt that you're standing in the wrong place). They have a pick up counter for tabs now if you already ordered them online (very smart addition to the process). It's really pretty organized and I love the walls papered and hung with local team sports paraphernalia. This is a reliable Renton DMV, not too fancy but gets the job done, and I hope it stays that way! read more

Wall inside at a little before 4pm today (3:57pm). Wait in line till 4:32pm when I get called to the window and tell them I need to do tags. Lady says we stop that at 4:30pm however I've been inside for over 30 minutes. I understand they have a cut off time but when I said I just need tags the check in lady told me to take a seat. OMG - I have never see a person to be so unprofessional to a customer. I went there today to fix a mistake from my Tabs and the gentleman that was helping me have to ask some questions to the co-worker (long dark hair was on box number 5, seems like a senior person at the office). She (lets name her Karen) yelled at me three times saying that I was not understanding and almost told me to shut up one time. I was polite and counting to 50 before saying anything. She was disrespectful, yelling, aggressive towards me and I maintained my politeness despite her breaking out. I will never go there and wish this Karen lady to receive the same treatment that she is doing to people one day. The young guy was professional and polite but the co-worker who should be training him was the worst person. I suggest the owner to review the tape of today's approach (around 11:20am) and see for himself/herself. The worse customer service and place ever. Should close and never receive any payments from the State as we pay their salaries with the imposed fees. read more

Other than the weak A/C, this place is as good as it gets for a license agency. Everyone there is always helpful, and surprisingly paitient. They also have no problem clapping back at rude and inconsiderate people. You get what you give, so don't be a dick. It is often crowded, but if you are just getting new tabs, buy them online and walk right in and pick them up. Also go midweek and mid month in the late morning to avoid long lines. The staff is great and do what they can with what they have. Anyone complaining either didn't have the right paperwork, were rude to the staff, or just can't comprehend Staff can't break the law for you, so just do what they ask. read more

This office refuse to register the vehicle my sister donated me based of the following demand: Failing to provide: dealership purchase agreement showing proof of any taxes paid. Based off: https://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/moving.html the guidelines are as it follows: Registering an out of state vehicle, that has been registered in another state and owned for less than 90days. Include: Vehicle/Vessel Bill of Sale OR Dealership purchase agreement showing proof of any taxes paid. The vehicle I'm registering was originally purchased in Puerto Rico, as a puertorican myself we pay more taxes due to the fact that the vehicles have to be shipped to our island, I provided the dealership purchase agreement but sadly the breakdown doesn't state the tax amount paid. I'm still in shock about how difficult this office have made my registration process. Having all the paperwork needed they still refuse to help me. I will go to another office but will never recommend this location to anyone as clearly something's not right. After researching more on www.dol.wa.gov, I found plenty of information that supports there's no need for such proof of any taxes paid as the vehicle was originally owned by my sister since 2013 and it has been more than 7years which in the website states they will assumed at that point taxes has been paid. read more

Avoid this dmv. By far the worst one in Washington. If you have a choice go to burien. Renewing tabs here is fine. Doing any title work be prepared to be sent away for no reason at all. You have to be sent away Atleast twice to get anything done. If you are lucky you might get the Samoan lady and she is very nice. Honestly I don't write much for review but today I felt I was rubbed the wrong and rude way. I came in to picked up my sister's tabs which she paid online so no wait but I was told differently and needed to have the same last name and address. Why would I have her same last name when she's married to my brother in law and address if I don't live her? And what was more deceiving was when I came in the other week, I picked up her tabs for her other vehicle with no problem and was not question. I had a pretty decent DOL experience here overall. I was able to get in and out under 30 minutes which isn't terrible. It's a small office with very little seating so when it gets busy, it can get a bit overwhelming. You can mostly avoid that by coming earlier in the day but it is what it is. read more

This place has gone to trash. A few years ago, this WAS the best vehicle licensing office to go to; friendly staff and fast service. Now it's just another California DMV where staff seemingly hate their lives and customers are there to ruin their day. If you're doing any DOL paperwork and you cross your T's or dot your i's in a way they don't like, they'll send you away to amend the paperwork wasting the 30+ minutes of you standing in line, all to do it over again. Of course, if you don't have time for their BS and you take the SAME rejected paperwork (untouched) to any other licensing office, the other agency will have no problems processing your paperwork; nor does the DOL (even though Renton says they'll reject it). If you live in Renton and need to pay for overpriced car tabs, that's pretty much all this location is good for... Even then, just have it mailed. read more

When you need to renew your drivers license in the Renton area, this is the one to go to. From the time I left my car, enter, greeted nicely, picture taken, eye test, pay the $9 a year (cash will save you 2$) temporary license and back in my car in less than 10 minutes. Went at 9:15 am (they open at 8:30am that day) on a Tuesday and they far exceeded my expectation. Previous attempts at other locations were not good. I was disappointed to learn by letter that I am in the group getting the two year instead of the 10 year as I had before , but this made up for it. This office is for VEHICLE and VESSEL REGISTRATION ONLY!!!!! This place has four hard park benches inside to sit on which a not very comfortable. It's very bare bones but they at least have tried to put a little Seattle Seahawks memorabilia and color around. They also added some fake plants and flowers to make it look more pleasant. Dealing with the staff on the phone was actually a very positive experience and they have gone out of their way to help with some issues. On the other hand, I had to come back three times for the same thing. A lot of unnecessary effort on my part so they get two stars instead of three. If you want you can renew online... I recommend that since I have been here twice and there is always a line. The line was out the door and we were waiting for over half an hour just to get in. Last time it was much quicker. Having moved here from California, I wasn't sure what to expect when I had to transfer a truck title into my name. At first it seemed weird that private businesses, like the Renton License Agency, process paperwork for the state. But I guess it makes sense, the private sector will run more efficiently than the government. The Renton License Agency was packed when I got there. The line wrapped around the inside of the lobby. I got to the back and waited. I was surprised at how fast the line moved. I was in and out in about 30 minutes, which didn't seem too bad. All of the clerks were polite, knowledgeable, and efficient which is why the line moved so fast. read more

I waited in line at least an hour to transfer an auto title. Got to the front. I had my US passport and receipt for a replacement Drivers license which had all relevant information and other supporting identification documentation. The receipt provided my Drivers License Number & Current Address. A Staff person (ALL OFFICE STAFF ARE WHITE) stated they need the duplicate replacement license. I stated I will go to my computer and print a copy. Can I return to the front of the line? The staff person told me I had to get back in the rear of the line. Yet 3 other people who had to leave to bring back documentation were allowed to go to the front of the line. Interestingly, they were WHITE and I am BLACK. To me it was clear racism. Double standard. I think this is a pattern in the Renton licensing office and they should loose the business privilege to provide licensing services. I will never return to that center. read more

Came in on Tuesday and was surprised to see no line at all. That's a first. Typically the line is out the door, and moves at a snails pace. Pretty much limited to street parking here. On a corner, easy to miss, little building. The staff is very rude and that is if they even acknowledge you. This last time I came i,n the lady didn't even stop her conversation with her co-worker and just annoyingly stuck her hand out waiting for my paperwork. She proceeded to continue the conversation throughout the majority of my time standing right in front of her. Good thing I didn't need anything else or have any questions. Anyways. Try to come early on a weekday to avoid the headache of the long lines; unfortunately you can't avoid the sour attitudes of the employees. read more

But this place still isn't all bad, the women who work here will tell you exactly what you need by the book. They're doing their jobs as they were instructed. Hidden in downtown Renton across from the post office and next to Bank of America. When you need tabs, make a stop into here! The staff is nice and very helpful with any situation. The emissions station is also near by so you can make a run there first if needed. If you're already online then renew on the department of licensing's website and choose the option to pick up here. There's a separate line for online renewals! I've been coming here for 6 years now and I believe the busiest time at the office is during lunch and after work. Sadly, I can't give a rating of zero stars. Recently I purchased a new car, and when I went to transfer the title over, they had a sign on the door reading CLOSED for the weekends "during winter". Their website made no mention of this. When I showed up the day after x-mas, they had a sign saying they were open on x-mas eve until 4pm. I'd been in the neighborhood and stopped by, door was locked and the lights were off. No one inside. Closed? Yup. Cost me an extra fifty six dollars and not one single apologetic word was uttered by the people who keep less then banker's hours. Not going to put up with this. Are the lines long here? Yes.. usually. But the staff works as quickly as possible to get through the line. Every transaction is different, therefore every transaction takes a different amount of time to complete. All forms of payment are accepted except for Visa credit and very few Visa debits (most major banks accepted for debit). There is an additional fee for plastic- heads up. They don't control the fees- I've heard and read a lot of complaints about the fees. The state mandates the fees and they simply pass the word on. Just like certain things have to be paid by cash only. Also if you wait through their line once and come back the same day they give a no wait (in case you are sent out for something and will be able to come back same day- no need to wait in their line twice). Renew online and go straight to the front to pick up tabs- great benefit! If you don't want to pay the optional park donation, just say so- they will take it off. Keep in mind they do have subagent fees (posted prominately on the wall) read more

Their physical address is 329 Williams Ave S. It's a small little place, but the people behind the counter really keep the line moving. I just bought a truck and had to go get it registered. I went in today (Oct 21) around 3:00 to get it registered, and there were 4 or 5 other people in front of me. I was expecting a long wait, but before I could get my iPod out of my pocket and turn it on, I was next in line! Woohooo! The girl behind the counter was awesomely nice, and was quick with her computer and the paperwork. She registered my truck and handed me the new tags in no time at all, and I was soon on my way to happy hour. Bottom line - go at 3:00 on a Wednesday in the middle of the month and don't worry if it looks like there's a few people in front of you. These folks have their stuff down pat, so the line will move quickly and you have time to get on with the rest of your day. read more
