If you are looking for a new ped clinic keep looking. It's gone way down hill in the past couple years. We get rushed around when we're there and have had issues with intern/trainee docs making poor decisions without oversight. The front desk is also super snarky which seems more common these days in Seattle so not a reason to not come specifically but just a heads up. read more

We have loved working with Dr. Tim Hall over the years, but unfortunately, our experience with Ballard Pediatrics Behavioral Therapy has been very disappointing. We were told we were starting a temporary therapy program, but they failed to mention that it would only consist of one session because the therapist was going on maternity leave. On top of the poor communication, they overcharged us, and the session we had wasn't helpful at all. It feels like the clinic now sees concerned families more as a money-making opportunity than as patients needing real care. Sadly, it's time for us to find another clinic that truly supports families. Save your money and time -- look elsewhere for therapy options for your kids. read more

The staff and doctors are taking great care to keep themselves and their patients safe from Covid-19 during this year. They set up a canopy just outside the door where they meet you to take temperatures prior to letting you through the door. In the lobby, precautions are also taken with limiting the number of people in the space, enforcing distancing measures with markings on floor, using masks and plexiglass. A lovely aquarium sits in the lobby, too, and is a great attention-getter for kids and parents alike. The doctors are efficient and quick, so you must get your questions in quickly and while they are doing genera wellness exams in order not to leave wondering. Young staff that administers vaccines need practice. They act as quickly as they can despite possible screaming and crying from little ones, but they seem to work too quickly, always causing bleeding at vaccination point. They also do not encourage nursing babies to help calm and relax them during injections, which has helped, but do offer time afterwards in the room for you to do what you need to calm your child. It's clean and a sweet space, slightly cramped and narrow for a busy practice, but they do their jobs and keep the flow going. read more

We, unfortunately, have switched practices due to repeated concerns regarding unprofessional and inappropriate communication with the front desk staff. Most interactions with the receptionist (Christine) has been inappropriate. One instance helps highlight the unprofessionalism - upon visiting the clinic, there was a miscommunication about our appointment time. When I arrived, the receptionist said that I had the incorrect appointment time. During a very quick exchange, I mentioned that I had called the day before to confirm the time, but was happy to wait. This conversation was very short. However, she began shouting at me and spelling out the time (ex. "nine-five-zero"). She continued talking to me as if I didn't speech English. I was horrified by this treatment. I am an 5th generation Asian American woman with no accent and I was not showing any difficulty to understand what she was saying during our short conversation. Irrespective of this, this behavior towards anyone is extremely inappropriately. I truly enjoyed our visits with our physician at Ballard Pediatrics; however, we've opted to transfer to a practice where our interactions with the front desk and scheduling could be more professional. read more

The clinic is at a convenient location, and it has parking. Although the parking lot is quite small, so you may need to find parking on the street. There are more than a dozen exam rooms. Staff is nice, and doctors are nice, nurses are nice. My kids felt comfortable right away. There is of course a fish tank in the waiting room to entertain kids with. read more

We love Ballard Pediatrics - we see Dr. Allen, and cannot recommend him enough. Two things stand out to me about Dr. Allen: 1. He is so calm. This is especially helpful for new (anxious) parents - he has such a collected demeanor and calm response to concerns or questions. 2. He never makes you feel like he has another patient to rush to - he always makes you feel like he has all the time for your questions, etc, which is such a welcome change from most providers who are so busy rushing to their next 15 minute appointment. We've brought our daughter here since she was born in 2020, and seen a few of the doctors at the clinic for one-off concerns, and they've all been great. The staff at the front desk is why we're finding another pediatrician clinic. They are rude, short with us every time we call, and they refuse to take any responsibility for not returning calls or following up on appointment requests. If there was a way to avoid having to deal with the front desk people, I would totally stay, but unfortunately the only way to schedule an appointment is to call them and deal with their horrible attitudes. That type of negativity is just not something I need in my life when I'm dealing with my daughter's health. read more

They seem to be working full time to make sure they never have to talk to anyone.....with an endless, circular phone tree and pushing all communication to a terribly implemented website. If you have a question, or need help with their technology mess, brace yourself to be talked down to, and dismissed as quickly as possible. I get it, healthcare is rough these days, but this group is definitely stopped any pretense of customer service. We've been seeing Dr Allen for almost 4 years for our two kids. It's been a great experience. He's calm and thoughtful. We always feel like we get the time we need from him to answer our questions and take care of our kids. The rest of the team there is great too. Our experience at Ballard Pediatrics left a lot to be desired. Two different doctors there terrified us with a potential health issue that didn't (and couldn't) exist in our daughter and what's worse is that they dismissed and ignored a real legitimate health issue for weeks despite our constant questions about it. We've since switched pediatricians and we're happy we did. More details: We chose Ballard Pediatrics based both on the great reviews as well as a personal recommendation from a friend. We are first time parents and Ballard Pediatrics was our pediatrician from Day 1. I say this because like any new first time parents, we had a lot of worried calls and off-schedule visits, so we ended up seeing and working with several doctors there in addition to our daughter's main doctor. Everyone was polite and seemed to be very concerned and helpful and the practice could always get us in to be seen on short notice. The issue they ignored was that when she was a few months old our daughter started having intestinal issues which persisted for several weeks. We were very concerned about it and we of course asked our doctor (and several other doctors and nurses there) and we got a "wait and see" answer each time we asked. We even offered to bring in a sample of her poop so it could be tested but they were very dismissive of that even being useful. Once we discussed this with our new pediatrician on our first visit they did a stool sample test right away and immediately found evidence of a milk allergy which we are taking steps to address. The issue that Ballard Pediatrics scared us with was when we were there for an unrelated visit, the doctor we were seeing that time (not our main doctor) saw our daughter zoning out a couple times and claimed that she was having seizures. Our main doctor backed her up and they advised us to see a neurologist. Of course this devastated my wife and me and the week we waited to see the neurologist was emotionally very difficult. After an EEG exam the neurologist at Seattle Children's gave us the good news that our daughter was totally fine and then told us that seizures of that type were *not even possible* in babies her age. The neurologist also gave our daughter a more thorough examination than she ever got at Ballard Pediatrics and gave us a more thorough and informative discussion about our daughter's health and development than we ever got at Ballard Pediatrics. We left that appointment wishing the neurologist was our daughter's pediatrician. read more

MEAN and RUDE staff to the receptionist at Ballard Pediatric Clinic, if you can't handle an occasionally screaming baby at the background on the phone and a couple of my mispronunciation bothered you (I'm sorry English is my second language) even though you understand me perfectly, you shouldn't work in a pediatric clinic. Because I had a hard time pronouncing my insurance name "Aetna" , instead of being helpful like asking me "how to spell it", she said, "I cannot set up an appointment with you if I can't verify your insurance". I found very insulting with her attitude. The first thing she said after I spoke the first sentence, "I CANNOT HEAR YOU WITH YOUR KID SCREAMING" in a very mean voice. Later on, I called Harbor View. The staff who answered the phone was polite, helpful and professional. He got all our insurance information on the phone without ANY problem. read more

When we met Dr. Allen for the first time, he did, and we had a proper diagnosis (for a difficult to diagnose condition) within a year, even during COVID. We love Ballard Pediatrics, having gone here for 3 years, we've only had a couple of disappointments and generally the care is excellent. We've seen a few of the doctors although our regular one is Dr Del Beccaro. She rules. Even when my son is really upset to be there, she manages to get him to relax and laugh. She is the main reason we go here. I would also see Drs Maliris, Allen, and Eldred. The others I don't know very well. Nurses...well, some of them are really nice, but there was one young woman (maybe early 20's) who was downright cold. It's amazing how if you look at enough people working in a children's clinic you'll eventually find someone who doesn't seem to like kids. This place has always been really good about calling us back when we have a question during odd hours, and they are open on Saturdays! read more

We've been going to Ballard Pediatrics for almost 3 years now--and it's truly a great place. Our son sees Dr. Archibald regularly, and we love her dearly! She's great with our son, who has special needs. She's always very patient and she seems to genuinely care about our son's well being. The nurses have all been wonderful too. The only downside I can think of is sometimes when I have called in the past, the receptionists have not always been that friendly. Not a big enough deal to deter me in any way though. My child saw Tim Hall at Ballard Pediatrics. I raised repeated concerns about my child's development, and he repeatedly dismissed them and refused to make a referral for a behavioral evaluation. When I continued to ask, he told his nurse/assistant to tell me that they would not make the referral for my child, but would be willing to refer me to a parenting class. I eventually switched clinics. My child was subsequently diagnosed with Autism, consistent with the concerns that I had been raising. My child's diagnosis could have come a lot sooner. Early intervention matters. There's a reason the CDC and every other organization that cares about child developmental outcomes stresses that its important to take a parent's concern seriously. Tim Hall did not do that. If he had, my child would have been diagnosed at age 2.5 or age 3.0 instead of at age 5. Those years are so critical. Autism can even sometimes be curable when caught early and treated with aggressive ABA therapy. How hard would it have been to make that referral? Why was he so smug and so sure of himself and so dismissive of parental concern? I have the medical records where he unabashedly acknowledges and dismisses my concerns. I also have the unequivocal Autism Diagnosis, easily "passed" when we finally switched pediatricians and got the referral for the evaluation. I would like Tim Hall to understand how much his swagger hurt my child in a way that cannot be fixed. Please think twice before entrusting your toddler's future to his judgment. read more

From the time we call in until the time we actually see a physician, Ballard Pediatrics is on top of its game. We've been going there for years, and every member of the office staff has treated the members of my family with the utmost care and respect. Everyone makes me fell as if my child's life and health is important, which makes me feel as if they are looking out for the overall well-being of their patients. Scheduling is technically easy, though at this point, it is very, very difficult to find a time in the schedule for a specific provider. Each time I go in or call and try to make an appointment, I'm put on hold for longer and longer periods. This doesn't mean that I think that they are annoying me - only that I think that the staff is overworked and underpaid. The receptionists are doing a fine job of ensuring patient flow, the MAs are on top of their games ensuring the basic vitals, including height and weight, blood pressure and pulse are all ok and making sure to report any anomalies to the provider that they are working for. Doctors, nurses and front office staff are friendly, patiently answer all questions and never rush even on their busy days. We have met Dr. Mildred Bay even before our son was born and chosen her as our son's Ped. She has been seeing my baby from Day 1. We have been going to Ballard Pediatrics for three years and are extremely happy with the clinic. Our primary care physician is Dr Allen who is FABULOUS!! I have nothing bad to say about him. He is thorough, he takes even our minor concerns seriously and is proactive with treatment when he needs to be (all while making us feel at ease). He is a popular doc though so when our kids get sick, and we make a non routine apt, we almost always get one of the other doctors. We have been happy with them too. The receptionists are nice and professional, and the nurses have always been super friendly to us. The waiting times are not bad at all. The longest wait every single time is after the doctor's visit, waiting for the nurse to come in to give the immunizations. I am not sure why there is always a delay then. My only big complaint is the lack of separate patient rooms designated specifically for sick kids vs regular wellness checkups. Twice now, my daughter has become sick a few days after her regular wellness checkups, which I contribute to the germs in the office. She doesn't go to daycare so is rarely sick. Fortunately, she hasn't gotten sick the last couple of times but now I confine her to her stroller and don't let her touch anything, and I never schedule a routine apt before a trip or holiday. All in all though, we are very happy w/ Dr Allen and Ballard Peds! read more

I had come here wanting to see Dr. Allen. However, he wasn't accepting new patients. Instead, I went with Dr. Hall, and I will have to say, after a few visits, I think it was meant to be. I met with Dr. Hall prior to moving ahead with him as our pediatrician. His southern accent and charm instantly won me over. He also happens to be a close friend of Dr. Allen, which made him the obvious choice. Dr. Hall is very patient, explains things well, and never negative. What he says makes sense and is never condescending, unlike some of the books and Internet "advice" I read. All of the staff have been nice and helpful. The only thing I really dislike about the place is the sardine can of a parking lot they have. read more

We have had the best care here for our 15 month old. We've seen all the doctors for our 'concerned new parent' visits and Dr Malliris for our sons wellness visits. I love all the doctors here as they manage to put my son at ease as well as us. I appreciate their calming way of explaining things that concern us and what to watch for if something is severe. For regular well-child checkups, this clinic is fine. But if you want to bring your child in for a seasonal flu vaccine you have to be quick to make an appointment. Otherwise, slots fill up fast and your child will have to miss school for the appointment. I understand that for scheduling purposes, the clinic wants to designate certain times for giving flu vaccines but their time slots were too stringent for my tastes, and I ended up going to Bob Johnson's Pharmacy down the street and around the corner. First of all, I find it interesting that the raving reviews that initially convinced me to go to this practice were all from years prior to 2012. If you look at the reviews for the current year, you'll see that there are some major problems with this office. I have been there twice. The first time with my older daughter. I was satisfied. I saw an older female physician. She was kind and attentive. The staff was unremarkable and civil. This time, I came for my 2 year old. I made the appointment a month ago. And, entirely my own fault, I wrote down 11am instead of 10am. My daughter and I were all ready to head to the doctor's office after dropping my other one off at school. We would have been a half and hour early for the 11am timeslot. I listened to messages while waiting in a parking lot and listened to the reminder call that the appointment was for today at 10. I called them immediately, asking if we could still make it. I was told it would be fine. When I arrived and checked in, a PA came out, with no shortage of bad temper and a clear indication of annoyance with me, to let me know that because I had missed half my appointment, the doctor would have to cut us short. This woman, red-headed, heavy set with very large eyes glaring at me, clearly felt she could condescend to me. I have absolutely no problem cutting an appointment in half that, of my own fault and irresponsibility, I was late for. But I have a HUGE problem being treated with this attitude. It's demeaning. It's rude. And it's unnecessary. Here's how she should have gone about it, "I'm so sorry, but it looks like you arrived a little late for your appointment today. We are really booked, so the doctor may not be able to spend as much time with you today. If he can't get to everything, you are absolutely welcome to either reschedule or you can just schedule another appointment." This is basic customer relations 101, regardless of your personality type. When I asked her if my child would receive the care she needed in this "half appointment" she said, "Well, he may just not be able to address all your concerns if you have many." Is that it?! All of that drama and bad customer interaction over the potential of me not getting all my questions answered? Fine, whatever. I decided to proceed. I walked into the back of the office and received another glare and direct dirty look from another staff member, one of those looks that holds your gaze and follows you down the hall while you're walking. Yeah, nice. This one, also heavyset, older, with longer brownish hair, working in the file area, pretty much just wanted to let me know that I was not appreciated. Last straw. Out the door we went. In a city the size of Seattle and with the hundreds of pediatricians available, why would I, a concerned mother of two precious little girls, want to send them to an office where there has never been warmth from the staff and where, today, I received the icy cold shoulder of not one but two of the people involved in my child's care. Maybe it's because I spent the first 6 years of my older daughter's life with a pediatrician and office staff who truly cared and loved seeing us that I just have zero tolerance for this sort of treatment at a children's doctor's office. It seems extremely contradictory to me. I can't say this strongly enough: Go somewhere else. This place is NOT kid-FRIENDLY and it's certainly not a place you would want to go if, God forbid, you're a human being who happens to be late to an appointment. read more

I am writing a review today as my family is, unfortunately, moving on to a different doctor's office - we now live in South Seattle and despite the fact that we love Dr. Bowe - making the trip to Ballard with a pre-schooler, and hopefully someday soon a newborn, is overwhelming for my schedule. It was really a hard decision because he is such a great doctor. He has been seeing our son since he was literally just hours old and from the very first moment has been thorough and direct. He is very patient and calm. He answers all of my crazy questions and is extremely tolerant of my "I read this on the internet" questions - which annoy me even as they are coming out of my mouth. We and many of our friends have been bringing our kids here for over 11 years. Doctors and staff are very kind and caring and always make us feel comfortablle, nurses call back when you have a question, etc. That said we know of 3 friends' children who were not diagnosed with things we think shouldn't have been missed. 1 had a speech impediment and was constantly in with fevers, sore throats, ear aches - ultimately he had his tonsils and adenoids removed, took speech therapy and all was resolved. Similarly a friend's child needed ear tubes (or something like that) but it took visiting another office to make the diagnosis. Lastly a friend's child had an impacted bowel that was so bad and missed for so long, despite repeated visits, that he will have to take stool softeners for the rest of his life to avoid it happening again as apparently they don't expect the distension to return to normal. Medicine is by no means a perfect science and perfection in diagnosis is highly unattainable. We still bring our kids here but if you really think something is wrong seek out additional opinions to make sure something important isn't missed. read more

We've been bringing our kids here since our son was born four years ago. We started with Dr. Telzrow, whom I adored--he was just totally old school and had seen everything. Very calm, great with the kids, and had a ton of great info. When he retired, we stayed on with Dr. Bowe. If possible, we love him even more! My kids both like him, he's thorough, calm, and great with the little ones. I should qualify this review by saying that my kids have never had any sort of health difficulty or emergency that required specialty care or a particularly keen eye for a difficult diagnosis. I can't speak to those issues. But I can say that I could not be happier with my kids' primary care from Ballard Pediatrics. Yes, the reception staff could use a little training, but I don't go there for the front desk experience--I go for Dr. Bowe. read more

One of the earlier reviewers is right Dr. Del Baccaro does rock - she rocks the house and all three of my kids have loved her! But I have been very happy and satisfied with each and every doctor here. I have recommended this office to everyone in the area - why get a downtown Seattle pediatrician - it's nuts! When you have a sick child you want easy access and quick care. Some women think, well I work downtown I want an office close to my work...you won't be at work if you have a sick child and why pay for parking and fight crowds? If you live in north Seattle don't even think of any where else - Best Pediatric office and they know all the key specialists in the city too and will direct you accordingly. I'd give them ten stars! When we first moved to Seattle in 2000 we started taking our children to Ballard Pediatrics. Over the years we have seen most of the doctors there and have not had anything but positive interactions with them. Our favorites are Dr. McMahon and Dr. Eldred, who happen to share patients. Those two doctors in particular have guided us through ADHD, ear infections, a mystery disease which eventually fixed itself (it was probably mono but on a kid age 2 the mono tests are inconclusive), newborn weight gain issues, a cheek that needed stitches, peanut allergy, etc. etc. I trust them very much and highly recommend this practice. read more

I had the best office visit today with Dr. Nakoneczny. I am a new mom and my child had a cold, I was so stressed out and when we arrived she was smiling and did not have a fever at all. I was so embarrassed that I had called and insisted to see a doctor that day. Dr. Nakoneczy was so nice and patient and spent a lot of time telling me the best way to care for her through the cold. I felt like we received very great care today. My regular doctor is Dr. Malaris who I also really like. Great doctors and very nice staff. read more
