I was referred to Ballard Womens Health by my primary doctor for a follow up. The experience with them was a big zero right out of the gate. I arrived for my schedule appointment and they couldn't find the referral my PCP had sent. Then they invited me into an exam room anyway, and the unfriendly nurse scolded me for not taking a prescribed medicine for a completely non=related thing, and bullied me into sending her screen shots of the notes that they couldn't find. That alone would have been enough to account for a bad review. After this they said they doctor wouldn't have time to see me so I should just leave. Which I did. Later they called me with SOMEONE ELSE'S pap smear results!!! After which I was BILLED way more than my insurance covers for a non-diagnosis. I already knew I had fibroids from the ultrasound my PCP provided. Holy crap. This was so bad. Zero out of five, do not reccomend. read more

I debated for more than a week whether I should list a review of my experience with Dr. Heidi Knickerbocker, but after much thought and deliberation, I realized I should list it, if only to inform Yelp readers about my experience being treated by her. A couple of days before Thanksgiving, I went to see Dr. Knickerbocker. I was in terrible pain over a bump that had grown in my nether region. It had grown quickly in two weeks to the point where I could barely walk, could not wear pants, and was even wearing my husband's boxer shorts because my regular underwear caused me too much pain. I told Dr. Knickerbocker I was in a lot of pain, but she poked and prodded me without telling me what she was going to do first. I said "Ow" and other words that indicated she was hurting me. That first exam left me reeling. Then, she left the room with the light shining on me and said she needed to get a second opinion from the other gynecologist. After a good while, she came back in with the second doctor, and they both looked at my bump and concluded it was a Skene Duct Cyst and needed to be drained with a syringe. The second doctor, Dr. Brandon, seemed nice and more compassionate. Dr. Knickerbocker started to set up for the procedure. I told her I was scared of the needle and scared of the whole procedure. I was so tense I could barely keep my legs open. She told me to be brave and that it had to be done. She said that giving birth was much worse than this. I was in so much pain that I wanted the cyst to be drained. We proceeded and it was so painful that I cried the whole time. After, the doctor told me to try to take 6 sitz baths a day and to keep the area clean and dry. I was shaking afterwards. She put a sanitary pad on my stomach and left. It took me a long time to get up from the table. After I left, I cried in my car. After I got home, I cried again. That night, I could not sleep. Even though I am grateful that I'm no longer in pain and I can sit and walk normally again, the procedure was so traumatic that I am still shaken by the experience. Yelp readers, for many of you this is probably TMI. But I wanted you to know the details of what happened so that you can make an informed decision about whether you want to go see this gynecologist or not. read more

I stumbled upon Ballard Women's Health while searching for a new gynecologist after my previous had retired, and I needed to have a new Mirena placed. My first appointment with Dr. Knickerbocker was awesome. She took plenty of time getting to know me and my lifestyle before we even began the pap or IUD consult. She recommended a pre-treatment for my IUD placement to help my cervix, but I'm not a big fan of taking medications I don't absolutely need which I voiced. Dr. Knickerbocker scoped out my cervix during my pap and said we'd be find without the pre-treatment - yay! We scheduled my IUD replacement for two weeks later. I'll admit, I was scared for the replacement even though my first IUD placement was totally fine with only a few moments of actual pain. I did myself a HUGE disservice and took to the interwebs to see what others had experienced with their IUD replacements. DO NOT DO THIS. I was so nervous, I forced my best friend to come along with me, "in case I pass out." I'm laughing as I write this because it was such an easy experience and I really got myself worked up over nothing. Dr. Knickerbocker had the old Mirena removed and the new one placed in less than 15 minutes, literally, from me walking into the room to me walking to my car. The removal was a breeze, I hardly felt that, and the only other uncomfortable moment was when she numbed my cervix. It was at this moment I began my audible mantra of, "No babies for five years. No babies for five years." She talked to me and my best friend about travel throughout the entire procedure and only gave me quick warnings if she was about to do something that may cause discomfort. The only thing I was a little surprised by was that her staff seemed to joke about the patients that were calling the office, after they hung up with them. I noticed this during both of my visits while in the waiting room. Not a huge deal but also not the best experience for patients. Overall, I could NOT be happier with my experience with Dr. Knickerbocker and Ballard Women's Health. And bonus, no babies for five years!! read more

On Oct 31, 2017, during a pelvic exam and Pap smear, Dr. Knickerbocker came into the exam room visibly agitated by the parking conflict her practice was involved in. When she removed the speculum, she turned it slightly against the righthand wall of my vagina, causing me physical pain. By that evening, I was in so much pain I couldn't sleep. The next day, I called the practice and they asked me to come in for a checkup. Dr. Knickerbocker came into the room and said loudly, "I am sorry this happened to you. I've never heard of anything like this. Maybe I hit a nerve." She opened the door of the exam room while I was naked from the waist down and in the stirrups, and called out to an assistant to bring a medication. She was inappropriate in conversation during the first exam, discussing my son's choices for college, saying if he wanted to "meet a lot of virgins" he could choose PLU. The injury she caused me resulted in my needing 6 months of invasive physical therapy. read more

Had the absolute best experience here, all of the staff is incredible. The PA and Dr. Brandon are incredibly friendly and personable. I felt comfortable and at ease the entire visit. This was the only clinic I've visited where I walked away with no extra stress or headaches because they made everything easy-- from getting an appointment to getting a prescription they are extremely helpful the entire way. Would NOT recommend I had an appointment with Dr Knickerbocker, I found her to be very negative, aggressive, and rough. She did not really listen to my concerns, and told me that "paranoid depression" is normal with hormonal flux during menstruation (this is not an actual medical term, I am assuming she meant PMDD- which effects between 3-8% of American women). She told me that I'm getting older, and that's just how it is. Telling a patient that just confessed suicidal thoughts occurring with their period should merit further consult for possible solutions (at least I would hope). I went to a professional for help and my concerns were minimized and dismissed. read more

Dr. Peter Brandon is the best OBGYN I've seen. He is compassionate, helpful and answers all of my questions. You can tell he really cares about his patients. His bias for testing helped uncover several medical issues that were not found by previous doctors. read more

I give an enthusiastic 5 stars to Ballard Women's Health! I have known Dr. Brandon for 10 years. We "met" when he was called in as my emergency c-section surgeon at Ballard Swedish (note, that surprise surgery went well, no issues, very small scar). When Dr. Brandon opened up his women's health clinic a few years later, I switched and have stayed ever since. My medical journey has changed a lot since we first met, but Dr Brandon has been very helpful, resourceful and compassionate through some health dramas - birth control, cancer scare/prevention, hormone balancing and has even administered some "medi-spa" services when I needed an appearance boost. One thing I appreciate greatly: Dr. Brandon has an amazing ability to listen and talk for longer than any other doc I have encountered. I highly recommend Dr. Brandon and Ballard Women's Health whether you need the traditional gyn services, or want to explore some of the latest medi-cosmetic products and treatments (expensive, but good results). Going to the doctor, especially a gynecologist, can be such an awkward or intimidating experience, but I always walk away from my appointments here feeling so glad I found this practice. There is a distinct lack of attitude or judgement when it comes to std screening, which is such a huge relief. Dr. Brandon remembers you, even personal details, and has a very positive attitude. He is extremely professional and compassionate, as are the rest of the staff that I've met. Getting an appointment the same week can be difficult, but I'd assume that is because they have so many happy patients. Everyone should have such a positive gynecologist experience! read more

Dr. Brandon is a superhero of a doctor and by far the best gynecologist I have ever had. He is very kind and warm and always makes me feel comfortable. Today he replaced my IUD and it prompted me to write this review, which was probably overdue on my part. My original IUD placement was something of a nightmare. The place that did it gave me a pill to put under my tongue to soften the cervix, and nothing else for pain, anxiety, etc. The procedure was incredibly painful and resulted in vagal stimulation that caused me to turn sheet white, feel faint, and vomit in the exam room. Dr. Brandon knew I had had this experience and that I was terrified about my upcoming replacement. He prescribed medication for anxiety and nausea prior to the procedure (which likely staved off a panic attack from me while waiting in the exam room). He also numbed my cervix prior to beginning the procedure (this made such a HUGE difference!!). As others have mentioned, he has excellent bedside manner and makes any procedure you go through with him so much more comfortable by giving you very detailed knowledge of what you will feel and when. He is also incredibly caring, listens to all of your concerns, and makes you feel heard. I cannot rate this doctor highly enough. Going to gynecologist is always a kind of uncomfortable experience, but this man does everything in his power to elevate the experience above that and it works. read more

This is the best clinic in Seattle! Dr.Peter Brandon is professional, non-judgmental, and tells great stories. He accepts all kinds of patients, which was of particular interest to me as a person that is childfree by choice. I will recommend him to everyone, because he can clearly provide the best healthcare to anyone. The rest of the staff is great, too. The nurse is very calm and assisted with the procedure. I happened upon Ballard Women's Health while searching for a new gynecologist. The entire staff is warm, pleasant and personable. Dr. Brandon did my initial consult and IUD placement. He has fantastic bedside manner and the IUD placement took maybe five minutes start-to-finish, and was basically painless. He also did a great job of narrating what he was doing during the procedure, which made me feel comfortable and part of the process. 10/10 would highly recommend! read more

I've been there once...I saw Dr. Brandon, knowing I wanted to get the DEPO shot. He kept pushing name brand IUDS that I repeated I was not interested in. They did not even carry DEPO shots at the clinic! I was given a prescription for the drug & needle, and told to come back. I left for the pharmacy, and waited in line for such a long time the clinic had closed by the time I'd gotten my prescription. Anticipating beforehand that I would miss closing time, I called and asked if I could come back the next day. I've never heard of anyone having to pick up a shot before. When I received the bill, I was charged first for the initial visit, and then again for the second day I had to return for them to give me the shot. If they had simply carried this very common method of birth control, at a WOMEN'S HEALTH clinic no less, I would not have had to go through all this hassle, time, and get charged $50 extra on top of it. I will not be returning here, and would not recommend this place to friends. read more

I have been a patient for almost 3 years. Dr. Knickerbocker and the entire staff at Ballard Women's Health are professional and extremely helpful. I always have a positive experience when going there, but I wanted to write about my most recent experience. I am recently unemployed and my 'bare minimum' insurance does not cover my brand of birth control. My pharmacy faxed them over information to try to argue with my insurance company, but in the mean time I called the office to see if there was something I could do. I was told to stop by - and I received two packs of my pill and a discount card for future prescriptions! This really helped me out of a (possibly expensive) bind, and thanks to them I have no break in birth control coverage, which is important to me. read more

I love this place!! I have been going there for about 2 years now and I think I leave the place smiling everytime which is saying alot for a women's health clinic. The people are caring and really listen to what you are saying and how you feel. Dr. Knickerbocker is probably one of the most genuine people I've met and I really do trust her expertise and knowledge. I recently had been debating on getting an IUD and was able to discuss in detail with her what my concerns were and ask the right questions without judgement to really get to an informed decision. I eventually did decide to get the IUD and it was such an easy experience that I recommend to anyone who is going thru the debate in their mind, to be at ease. I was given a presciption for the night before which relaxes things for less cramping and pressure and I took only two ibuprofen. I was in and out of the office in less than an hour. Yay! read more
