The Balloon Museum is a traveling exhibit in multiple cities. I got to experience this exhibit with my children in New York City and if given the opportunity, I'd do it again! This will be my first review of 2024 & I am so glad I get to write lots of great stuff about this experience. What can I say ... finally after months of trying I got the opportunity to visit this amazing place! Such an exciting & colorful place to have some fun. You all know me by now, most of the time I travel alone . And I had a blast, didn't wanna leave ! Let me tell you it was difficult to get there from the island & I was almost an hour late lol. But they were nice enough to still let me in, much appreciated! Everyone working there is so kind, helpful; thank you guys . I am so happy I was able to go; no regrets only beautiful memories. I definitely needed some time with myself after working crazy hours at work for the holidays. I become a child just by being there . If the ticket was little cheaper I would try to come back just to have fun. I am also sad that they are almost done with the show, hope they brings it back permanently, because it's soo freaking cool. I came here on a Sunday afternoon. It was fairly crowded. You can only enter the experience at the time specified on your ticket. They have a fun outdoor waiting area with inflated tents and 90s-style bubble furniture where you can sit. They also have large inflated balls to play around with on the grounds. The attraction itself takes about an hour to get through with about a dozen different rooms. It's easy to spend more time, especially if you are waiting for certain areas to take photos. The first section has large inflatable art pieces with music and colored lights. Next, you pass through a room with inflated dolls that bounce back like punching bags when you hit them. The ball pitt is a highlight. They let about 150 people in the room at a time and you can stay for around 15 minutes. First, everyone files in and finds a spot around the perimeter of the pool of balls. You have to wait for clearance from employees before diving in. The pitt is deep and it's easy to feel like you're "drowning" in the balls, but it's fun. There are color changing lights and orbs that descend from the ceiling, which add to the ambiance. Make sure to zip all pockets and purses as it would be a nightmare to find anything lost in the pitt. In other rooms, you can play with an enormous inflated ball, pop bubbles from a huge bubble machine, and take photos with balloon art. The final section is a VR experience. You put on headsets and are transported through several immersive balloon-inspired fantasy worlds. There is a concession area where you can buy popcorn and doughnuts. You can also buy balloon flowers and souvenirs in the gift shop. Overall, it's a cute experience. Definitely ideal for kids of all ages. If you like taking photos for social media, it's a paradise. Otherwise, it's fun for the novelty but certainly not a must-do. read more

I regret not visiting earlier when it opened, because it was not at its best when I arrived within its last few days. By the time I arrived, it had "weathered." Overall, I thought the "museum" was entertaining and had almost countless photo ops if you didn't mind others in your photos or waiting patiently until you had a split second opportunity to get your shot. The ball pit was a timed large space which afforded play, photos and even a "show." It was one of the best NYC ball pits I have experienced. The VR experience was enjoyable, and piqued my interest in further VR exploration. It was a great connection between the giant balloon world we were exploring physically and the endless possibilities found in the virtual balloon world. In addition to a room filled with photo studio stations, there were many interactive exhibits. The ball pit was a fun activity if you are part of a group. The VR experience was my fav, it was a 360 experience that brings you to a fantasy land with balloons everywhere. Went on a Saturday evening around 7:30pm and it was fairly crowded. A pretty cool exhibit. Spent about 1.5 hrs here. The Hyperstellar exhibit was probably the most popular one aside from the exhibit rooms at the end where there were lines just to take pictures. The different exhibits are interesting. They're meant to be interactive and fluid. A bit pricey but expected for a pop up exhibit in NYC. There's a little snack section at the end of the exhibit as well as a small souvenir shop. Overall nice way to spend an evening. Good for date night, night with the girls, family outing with the kids. read more

This is something that I'd consider a once in a lifetime experience. Not because I couldn't return to NYC to see it again, but really, once you've seen it, you are good. Maybe seeing it at the other locations would be fun at each one is different. I first saw this in Emily in Paris in one of the scenes for the show but actually didn't put any thought into it being a real thing. Once I saw it on an insta page while looking for things to do during our trip, I knew I had to go. The costs of entry are pretty high, and they hike up the price by $15 per adult during the "holiday times," which, of course, was when we were there. It was $130 for two adults, which is definitely the most I've ever paid for a museum entry. But again, given the uniqueness and level of interaction and awesome photos with the exhibits, I was fine with it as a treat for myself while on vacay for my birthday trip. Entry is timed due to the nature of some of the exhibits and to also allow for people to experience everything without being super crowded, which was greatly appreciated. Like all museums and art installations, there are some super awesome and some misses. I loved that you literally emerged into this experience. From being able to be super close and not closed off by ropes to touching and playing within, creating your own experience, it is definitely unique. My favorite part was the smaller boxed sets that were designed for Instagram photos. There were 8 different scenes that everyone could take turns taking their photos without others in the way, you just had to be patient. Admittedly, some people were getting super annoying with the number of pictures they were taking of each exhibit for their 'gram pages, some on top of all the family posed photos. Luckily, you could skip around, and we figured those people out quickly and just jumped in front of them at the next one but knew we could circle back. Plus, we didn't want all of them. I did mention that I thought it would be a good idea to have someone stationed at each one to keep the time for people like they do at many experiences like this like in Chicago, where you get like 90 seconds out of the glass edge and then your off. Naturally, I loved the personalization of the I heart NYC exhibit in which you held up a sign that said NYC. You also have the option to hold up a YOU sign, which my oh so clever boyfriend did for me to take a pictire of him and he instantly turned around and used that is a heart-warming and loving happy birthday post to me (we went the day of and it worked out perfectly for him). My least favorite part was actually the exhibit where you can fully get emerged and into a pool of balls (yes, like the ball puts from our childhoods). It was fine if you were just standing there, but Lord help you if you fell over and were being weighed down by the countless balls in the biggest pit. I am short, so even the shallow pool didn't help as it felt impossible to stand back up, and there are limited number of ladders to get out of the pit. I am not tall enough to just crawl out and not knowing these details I didn't enter in near a ladder, so I had to try to get across an entire section, which was less than fun. Ben was bwing a giant kid and didn't notice that I had took off to try to get out and was struggling. And no help from any of the numerous employees. Another visitor who was there with his wife helped me to get out. Thank you to him. The light show at the end of the timed event was beautiful, but I'd never enter the pit again. The frustration wasn't worth it. The experience was 100% worth it as a one-time deal, but I couldn't imagine having a family with the prices of entry, and really, in my opinion, this is more of an adult experience as kids are either too young to even understand what they are looking at or appreciate the artwork. read more

You walk through a couple of interactive exhibits that are pretty cool. My favorite was the VR experience at the end where you are immersed into this bubble world. They extended this exhibit one day and I was able to snag tickets this exhibit/pop up was really fun. It made my friend and I feel like we were kids again. In each room there were filled with inflatable figures. I really enjoyed the room with the black plastic balls that you can jump in like Chuck E. Cheese or discovery zone. I also enjoyed the roomwith bubbles . There was a room full photo op. However, the lines was very long for some. I am a lover of immersive art experiences. I consider 29Rooms (PLEASE make a comeback to NYC!) to be the holy grail godmother of them all and have since used that experience as a template for subsequent experiences. And a lot of these immersive art "pop-ups" tend to be a kitschy, gaudy "oooOoOO-look-at-me" overpriced sideshow affair masquerading as a main act. Ballon Museum hits right in the middle. My sister really wanted to come here and when I first saw the prices for this place (damn near $70), I assumed I'd be underwhelmed and opted out. But she brought it up again that it was the final week, I hadn't been to an immersive art thingy in awhile, AND I scored a sweet 50% off discount code, so I decided now or never on the FINAL day of the NYC experience. Right off the bat, you're looking at unusual circumstances. The coat check is OUTSIDE. I watched a young girl whip off her coat revealing nothing but a thin crop top underneath in below 30 degrees temps BY THE PIER and said godspeed but no thanks and kept mine on my person. You'd think maybe this isn't such a big deal, that you'd just check your coat and hurry into the exhibit hall but noooOOoOoOOOo. The "intro" to the museum is still outside. There were a flurry of giant, inflatable structures hanging out outside with inflatable benches, NONE OF THEM HEATED. And once you passed those, ANOTHER LINE to actually get inside the place. Glad I kept my coat. Once you finally make it inside the Pier 36 building, there are no immediate restrooms. And I was banking on immediate restrooms. The only ones I found were at the END of the whole experience. Additionally, we were instructed to put on these weird little shoe-coverings (like in a hospital) to "protect the floors". So anyone who coordinated their little outfit (like my sister) had to be prepared to crop out their feet. Now, the installations ARE pretty cool. That first colorful mirrory room of wonder. The cute little giant owls breathing hoots out at you. The glow-in-the-dark room of "Gingos" (?). The party ball pit room is BY FAR the best part. The mix of the 360 panoramic visual screen display and the BIGGEST, DEEPEST ball put I have EVER experienced. The balls were soft and pliable, and you could literally dive in and sink in. I clutched onto my phone for dear life. But there is a time limit on this room and one of the workers rushed you out in quite a callous way once your time is up. The "bubble room" was also pretty neat, though I'm not sure why they listed it as a "Quiet Room" to experience the "effects". It was NOT quiet. But very cool that somehow the bubbles weren't "wet". You finally dispose of your shoe coverings after here I think, so I guess they don't care about the rest of the floors. The room with the GIANT floating rolling ball balloon that you could punt across the room was also VERY cool and I loved the interactive aspect of that. There was also an inflatable maze that I really felt they could have done more with, because it wasn't much of a maze and really became something for kids to just jump all over. There were a few other general exhibits as well. Near the very end there's about 10 scenic backdrops, purely for your Instagrammable purposes, BUT, every one had a line that an elderly millennial like myself would not go for, so I bypassed that completely. And, I'd been smelling the scent of popcorn the entire time, and when I finally reached the concessions, they had the weirdest system where you couldn't just go up to the counter and order your food. You had to stand on a SEPARATE line, get some sort of TICKET, that you would THEN go back to the counter to wait for the food. But once again, the line just to GET a ticket was another one my elder millennial self couldn't be bothered to stand on just for some popcorn. On my way out of the exhibit, the outdoor concession stand was free and clear, and I grabbed my popcorn fix there, no ticket-system or nothing. So, yes, it was enjoyable, but more crowded than I expected on the last day, and if I'd paid full price I don't think the value would have been worth it. It's a solid experience with great potential to be so much better if the team makes improvements, adjusts the limit for how many folks can be inside at one time, employ some kinder staff, and make general structural improvements. read more

This was a cool exhibit. I would deff go with kids though. The ball pit is a big hit. They ask you to wear shoe coverings which they provide. At the end of the exhibit they have these little booths with different scenery and they are great for photo moments/ instagram worthy. I am glad I was able to check it out but I won't be going back one last time before it ends. It was crowded but what do you expect! Lines moved pretty quick. I love love love all everything museums. I was excited to explore this one. Upon our arrival, it was a bit hectic to get there. If you are driving then be prepared for traffic and a lot of unhappy people. I would suggest using public transportation or taking an Uber/tax service. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were just soooo many kids running around. Workers seemed annoyed but who can blame them, I can't keep count of how many people were there. I think there were almost 10 sections or less of things to view and take pics of. It was just underwhelming for the price we had paid, I had expected... more. This is a place for pics and all of the influencers to go to. My favorite part was the ball pit as it was just a vibe. It would be way better without kids to be honest lol. Parking was a nightmare, entry was a nightmare, and currently, as I forced into the middle of a crowded hallway 10 minutes into the experience, I want nothing more but to leave. The blow ups outside were not working on the day I went. I found it weird that the coat check was outside and not close to the entrance. I've been to many pop ups and this was a lot of fun. Besides the not working outside exhibits, some of the places that people have touched were visibly dirty and/or stained. I guess if I went when they first opened it would have been cleaner. The balloon museum was such a cool experience better than expected. I had several rooms that you can adventure into. And actually the front area was free and you can also enjoy hot chocolate, different pastries, and a selection foods. But the star of this event is definitely the balloon ballroom. They bring you in small groups and you have a limited time in this area. But during your time in the ballroom , there are several visual themed movies playing. This is also the perfect time to take selfies or just sit back and relax and enjoy the visual entertainment. After your time is up, you're taken to a few different spaces where you can also take more selfies or grab something to eat. Thought the exhibit was well done, but we found it totally inappropriate for children. Like a menacing psychedelic trip. Creepy music and scary giant bunny and dark planet balloons. Who thought this was good for children? The kids freaked out, cried and clung to us the whole time. The opposite of delightful. No need to repeat, I don't want this review to sound like I'm full of HOT AIR (ba dum tss) ballon puns, amiright? First off this was the most neutral smelling place I've ever been to. If I was a carnivore, I'd STARVE because it didn't smell like rotting meat anywhere (ifykyk). Secondly, when I jumped in the balloon pool my breathing wasn't obstructed in the SLIGHTEST. Granted, I'm not a toddler so that wouldn't have been an issue to begin with. Maybe keep an extra eye if you have a child under 3 foot? Lastly, there was enough space for everyone & the security/employees were friendly enough to respond with a head nod when a person says hi. Would the TSA do that? I don't think so! read more

I went to the balloon museum located in the South St., Seaport in New York City when they were here. And I had a really good time. It's a great place for families to go adults will have a good time as well as the kids. I won't lie. The ticket price is a little heavy, but it was worth going. I understand that they got the price so high because of where it's located at so I get that. I love all the interactive rooms that they have when you walk into and museum. so when you walk in they give you these little cloth things to put on your feet so that you don't scuff up the flow which is so great. There's rooms with mirrors and kaleidoscope views. They were rooms with sound waves that if you listen to things that makes different colors, they were rooms with bubbles room. There are even areas towards the end where you can go and take pictures and that was my favorite part. I would go again on my dime. read more

I hated it here. My kids almost got suffocated in the ballon pool and when I tried to talk to someone about the issue, they literally stuck their fingers in their ears and mocked me. Not what'd you expect as a response from a business. Days later, I find out me and my friends kids all have pink eye. Coincidence? Not sure. And we met/parted ways there so it wasn't from any other interaction unless the same guy farted in 4 kids faces. Unlikely. What do I know. Not to mention, this is not a museum. Just a glorified influencer hole built in a bare warehouse with fixture of inflated rubber. I can find a warehouse in in bushwick to do that at for less than half what they charge (60 for adults 55 for kids). This place also smelled of something nasty, like dirt and rotting meat.
