We had several large tables as part of a corporate event. We came with the expectation of "island time" but the service was actually great. We sampled all the apps and with so many people, everyone ordered different items and all I heard were rave reviews. I personally enjoyed the calamari, wings, and had a steak the size of my head! The mashed potatoes were also fantastic! I topped it off with the Old San Juan (old fashioned) and it was probably the best drink I had on the resort. Outdoor establishment at the El Conquistador Resort near where you get on the boat for their private island (Palomino Island) which is an amazing day of fun in and of itself. I had the Skirt steak which was cooked Medium not bloody perfectly (that is rare indeed and a nice surprise) and charred vegetables (yum). Nice wait staff, and try their best to communicate and confirm what you want to eat as well as discuss the specials. Nice array of seafood and steak options from my perspective. This place is great for breakfast before heading on the ferry to Palomino island. We also had lunch here which was decent. Dinner had very few options and was overpriced. The view is amazing as you are sitting at the waterfront. Service at all the resort restaurants is somewhat slow. read more

I was unsure based on the reviews but overall we had a pretty good first meal here to start our vacation. The view at this outdoor restaurant was lovely, with a nice breeze. Our server was friendly and listened attentively when we explained the food allergies and dietary restrictions in our group. He came back to confirm which items were safe for our daughter and the chef accommodated a vegetarian in our group with a thoughtful pasta and a special asparagus sauce, rather just than random side dishes and starches as is so often the case. My mahi mahi was a bit tough and salty but I never order mahi mahi so I don't know if that's just how it is, but I loved the broth in my mom's coconut seafood food stew and my husband loved his seafood mac and cheese, which had a decent amount of lobster in it. Also, the two salads we ordered were surprisingly well prepared, fresh, and flavorful--our four year old devoured hers. We got your typical vacation drinks and had no complaints about those. Food is severely overpriced. I'd stay away from the lobster tail. It's obvi not fresh. Both Partner and I had surf and turf and his lobster tail was fine albeit a bit rubbery. My lobster tail however had a strong ammonia flavor. Pulpo was good enough but rubbery as well. Service was five stars. Awesome views of Marina. Sit under a fan. We got here early, I had the snapper (special of the day) and the wife had the gumbo. Both were excellent and presentation was very pleasant. Potions were large and seasoned appropriately. Waiter was professional and timely. Not on the menu is the "spicy" Bloody Mary. It was excellent and the "extra" spice was a perfect balance. We came here for the breakfast buffet and had the worst experience ever. We came at 11:40 and specifically told the waiter that we wanted to do the buffet, she acknowledged it and seated us at 11:50ish and literally 10 minutes into it they started wrapping up the buffet before we could even do a second serving. The receptionist clearly told us that the buffet is till 2, she knew we were dining and without any regard they decided to wrap up the buffet. When we called it out to them, very agitatedly they asked if we wanted anything else from the buffet and got us another serving. That is literally not how it works, the reason we went for it so that we could eat at our own pace when we wanted. No apologies, nothing to make the experience better, they went about as if nothing happened. read more

This place is open now! Apparently it underwent a $1M renovation it's really nice but I do wish they had TVs. I got there at 9:30pm and the kitchen closed at 10pm on Wednesday but they still accommodated me. Ordered a piña colada and loved it! The food was delicious! read more

Food was only so so and the service was weak. Location is everything and they have it. But location with mediocre good and service will just not work. Just resort guests for the most part so maybe they don't care. Not up to Waldorf standards!! My daughter ordered a chicken caesar salad and when it arrived the "chicken" did not taste like chicken... in fact it flaked apart like fish and tasted like fish. I brought it to the attend of the waiter -he said you ordered chicken, we gave you chicken.... i again mentioned that it did not look or taste like chicken... he just said.. it is chicken.. Hands down, the best and quickest place to eat lunch or a snack on this resort. Located right on the marina, it has a gorgeous view, and great people watching - you get to watch all the people getting on and off the ferry to the island. We probably ate here 4 or 5 times during our 7 day stay. Since it was close to the water park, where we spent a lot of our time, it was really convenient for us. Our go-to's were the hummus with toasted pita bread and veggies, burgers, and chicken tenders. Service was so-so, we dealt with some pleasant servers, some mute servers, and one in particular that kept yelling at me for using my cell phone - I was in the process of looking up facts about Culebra island, which we were debating about going to - and he kept telling me to get off my phone and threatened to take it away. Relax dude, I'm still having a conversation with the person I'm with, and it's not like I'm yapping away on the phone in a restaurant full of people. Anyways - nothing special, but good basics and a beautiful view, and not too expensive either. read more

The location of Ballyhoo is initially what brought us here. I mean, who doesn't want to eat right on the marina. Based on reviews we were a bit worried, but in the end our food was nothing short of excellent! The steak was extremely juicy and tender, so good it might as well have been filet mignon...but mind you it was skirt steak. The drinks were tasty, and nice & strong. As for the service, it was just as great. We came back again and again...after our ferry ride, after the pool, after walking the resort, and also because we just couldn't get enough of the awesome steak. I'm not sure where the bad reviews stem from, but I definitely recommend you look past them and give Ballyhoo a shot. read more

Came by this restaurant right after getting off of the ferry from Palamino island. I would give it more stars if it weren't so darn expensive. I got the skirt steak and it was yummy and tender. The rice that came with it was hard and way undercooked. My friends got salads and quesadillas, neither were that exciting especially for the price. I would not eat at this place again if I were on the resort. I might stop by for a drink because I like the location of being right on the marina. read more

Hector the manager, allowed us to have appetizers and Jose the bar tender made us drinks before they opened for the evening. We wanted to give this restaurant a second chance- we had been a year ago when it was just barely reopened. I can't recall all the details of the earlier visit but do remember explicitly asking for appetizers before the entrees only to receive everything at once. My general memory of it was that it was comedically bad. This year we figured maybe they had worked out the kinks and we tried it again. Asked for a wine menu and were told they didn't have one- they "used to" and were working on a new one. But "we do have Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot..." with no idea what the wines actually were, I ordered a cocktail. Note they have $58 steak on the menu, but no printed wine list (even for by the glass). For appetizers we ordered calamari and oysters Rockefeller- but they didn't have any oysters. Kids were upset that there only two options on kids menu- Mac and cheese and fish sticks. They had a boneless wings appetizer so my son decided to order that without sauce- but it turned out "they have bones right now". Calamari were good. Ordered a burger. Before the food arrived out came a plate with 8 packets of ketchup. Fish tacos were good. Burger was passable at best- double patty, surely frozen preformed. Fries everywhere. We asked to take home leftovers and next thing you know two plastic containers and a paper bag were dropped on the table for us to fill. Dessert menu had just two options - key lime cheesecake and something chocolate. My daughter loves key lime and ordered that. "Actually it's not key lime right now just plain cheesecake." So we skipped that and left as quickly as we could. The waitress was perfectly nice, just didn't have much to work with. I get supply chain issues etc, but maybe reprint a more realistic menu rather than continue to tell us no after we've made a decision? It's like the restaurant wants to be upscale- nice location and decent menu, with high prices- but then just utterly falls down on the delivery. We are surprised by the number of bad reviews for this restaurant. Having tried most of the other mediocre restaurants in El Conquistador hotel, we were really giving up on finding good food. We had dinner at Ballyhoo and we felt it was best meal we have had here! The Churrasco steak was really tender with good beans, and my wife had the curried dorado fish dinner which she enjoyed very much. I am sure there is better off the resort but for those who do not wish to venture about, this has great solid food and a great view as well! read more

I was not loving my experience here! Overpriced but location was great. Food was just okay...Service was not great as they insisted on holding on to my room charge card and then lost it. No apologies whatsoever. I would have paid an extra $5 a plate for the restaurant adjacent to the Ballyhoo that was not directly on the water. They were drinking out of real glasses and I heard that the food was great (please note: that I am not opposed to drinking out of plastic cups, but for the price of the beverages, they should have been in glass despite being close to the water, etc.). I would not recommend unless you have kids, you are just having an app,a drink or its raining. read more

We just finished a 6 day stay at the El Conquistador. This was our last dinner meal before we left. The location by the marina is nice and the service is good. However, the food is really bad. I ordered Mahi-Mahi with a baked potato ($20) and Mr. GDS ordered a hamburger ($16). Both meals were cold, had no seasoning and there wasn't any salt and pepper on the table. When I ordered the baked potato, the waiter told me that it came with butter and sour cream. When we received the bill, I was charged extra for the sour cream LOL. Don't waste your money. Go to Bella Vista Cafe instead or one of the local restaurants (even Burger King has to be better than this). read more

Lunch here was atrocious. My wife had a jerk chicken sandwich that was dry and tasteless. She asked if they had any sauce she could put on it, they said no. She sent it back and they sent her a fish with mango chutney that tasted as though it had been frozen. I had a fish quesadilla that tasted like dry tuna fish from a can. I could not eat it. The bare bulb lighting was annoying. We ate there on a Tuesday night which was very slow. Only two other tables. Not much in the way of atmosphere. It seemed depressing. Nothing about the decor tells you that you are in beautiful Puerto Rico. Perhaps this place is better just as a bar on the weekends. It was a bit pricey for 4 people. I hope management takes a look at some of the reviews and chooses to spruce up this place. First of all--dirty: my fries had a dead fly in them. Jerk chicken and burger were good tho. However, why doesn't this resort understand that guests was authentic Puerto Rican food? We enjoyed lunch and dinner here on 3 separate occasions. Recommend the pulled pork sandwich and ballyhoo quesadilla.
