I just moved to town and my last hair stylist recommended I hit a barber for my short 'do so I hit up BBL and loved it. It was not an issue that I was the only girl in the salon. The barber looked at the pictures I brought and "read my mind" to fill in the rest. I got an epic fade at a very reasonable price. We had easy conversation and I was in and out in 30 minutes. I usually go to salons that take 2-3 times as a long and cost more, too. This was a low maintenance, easy haircut. I will definitely go back! read more

Cash Only, NO ATM, NO SHAVING, but you can choose only machine cut if you have beard. Expensive hair cut $17/ basic plus tips. Clean place, friendly. Don't come in weekend as wait time is long even though they try to dismiss a person in an average 15/30 min. Parking are paid on street $2/HR. Okay, I've decided to give this guy several chances after my first visit. But I think this is my last. I just came back from having a lousy haircut. I wanted a nice haircut to look my best for the new year's celebrations, but now I think I need to go to another barber to get my hair fix. That Baltimore Barber Lounge sucks, I am pissed! The guy hardly touched my hair; it looks too long on the top, weird cut on the back, and the sides look way too clear around my earlobes. This is one MF, messed up haircut; I hate that place!! If you are looking for a haircut on par with something you would get from a run of the mill joint at your local mall then this is the place for you. I recently stopped in for a haircut here on an afternoon when no customers were waiting thinking I was lucky and that I would be well served. The two barbers were sitting around watching television when I came in, which didn't bother me too much. The blasé attitude however was a real put off to me though since this guy did a poor job of listening to what I asked him to do. I sat down and he asked me what I wanted without really paying attention to what I said and just went through the motions. It seemed like he just wanted to get back to watching television. When he was done I asked him to trim my sides a little closer thinking he would give me a nice fade that blended into my hair. Instead he gave me a high and tight military looking cut that was way too close. Then my hair on top was draping over the so called fade in the back so I asked for a little trim on top to even it out. This guy just starts randomly chopping chunks of hair off my head with electric clippers like he's shearing a sheep. Finally I was fed up and jerked my ahead away from this butchering and said thanks. I am fairly new to this city, but I wasn't born yesterday. I know what a quality barber shop feels like and this place falls far below that mark. They might shave your neck with a straight razor to make it seem authentic but if the barber can't at least pick up a pair of scissors at least once then this place needs to take down their barbers pole and put up a Hair Cuttery sign. Don't take my word for it though, try your own luck. read more

I had a really bad experience here. I specifically told my barber, "I'm growing my hair out. All I want is to get it thinned out and cleaned up around the neck." He proceeded to get out the buzzers and start buzzing the side. When I asked him to use scissors instead ($5 more, he told me), he switched...but then used them to cut my hair shorter. He was disinterested and unfocused the entire time, didn't say a word to me except for instructions to move my head. I ended up with pretty bad, shorter haircut that was not what I asked for. Kyle's haircuts are exactly what you ask for -- and certainly affordable. He takes a sincere interest in his customers and verifies that I am satisfied before I leave the chair. I have had my hair cut by Kyle 5 times now and have consistently been pleased with the quality of his work. I have also recommended friends get their hair cut at Baltimore Barber Lounge and those who have done so have enjoyed a similar experience. Because Kyle runs a one-man show, sometimes you do have to wait. Also, note that the shop is cash-only. It makes sense to save on processing fees, but make sure to have some cash to avoid awkwardly having to go to the ATM to pay for your cut. I have never seen Kyle rush a haircut, even with people waiting, but I certainly think you should give Baltimore Barber Lounge a try. There is a large flat screen television and comfortable furniture -- and free wifi -- for you to enjoy if there's a wait. read more

I came in around 5pm on a wednesday, there was only one gentlemen ahead of me. Sat down for maybe thirty seconds and Kyle came out from the back and was very welcoming. They only take cash, but right next door is at the mini market is an ATM (I want to say it was $1.75 service charge). So a quick back and forth and I sat and he got to work. I suppose there are people that don't like to talk while getting a trim, I think the silence is awkward. What's even worse is when you have a forced conversation, trying not to make it not awkward, making it worse. Kyle was very social, conversation flowed and he really cared about exactly how I wanted my hair: he would often confirm before proceeding. The cut was quick, and I always like the straight blade clean up for the back of the neck, it's not too typical and a totally pampering. The hair cut was perfect, haven't had one this good in a while. All that for $16? Sold, no second thought. All the services are priced on the wall in clear view, did not see a check-in sheet as I have read below. Definitely making this place routine. read more

Terrible service. The barbers say that they don't take appointments but that doesn't mean they serve on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are new to them, they won't give you a good service. They have a small register where you have to sign-in that is not visible at first. If you walk in and don't sign-in, the barbers won't have the courtesy to tell you that you need to sign-in. They just keep giving you that strange look. I ended up waiting nearly 2 hours. I don't think it is difficult for a barber to keep track of the 4 waiting customers. That is part of their job. As far as the trade of cutting hair is concerned, they are just ordinary. Nothing exceptional but not terrible either. I certainly won't recommend this place. read more

The barber who took a lunch break (during the time I stopped by to get a cut) called me this morning to apologize for inconveniencing me. The owner called me yesterday, as well. When a business goes to the trouble to contact an unhappy customer twice -- with an offer to make it right -- I'm impressed. I moved to the area less than a year ago. I can't tell you how many barber shops I have been too before finding the Baltimore Barber Lounge. This is by far the best place in the area to get a great quality haircut. Kyle is great and the atmosphere of the shop is awesome. I can't say enough about this place. Still live in the neighborhood, still see Kyle, everything still as amazing as it was the first time I went. Price has gone up--to a whopping $18. Place is super-busy; it's amazing how long some guys are willing to wait for a cut with a specific barber (usually Kyle). All the barbers are very good, though, their chairs are always full as well. If you don't have to go on Saturday or wkdays after 4, I'd advise going at a less busy time. BBL is the best! read more

Had my first experience at the Baltimore Barber Lounge yesterday, and I must say I am very impressed. Kyle and his staff are complete gentlemen. I had been cutting my own hair for the past two years and needless to say it showed. I recieved the haircut I asked for in a timely fashion and for a more than reasonable price! They even trimmed my Sasquatchesque beard for me. I love the amount of seating and reading material that is provided. They are very friendly and removed any apprehension I had going into my cut. I would recommend the Baltimore Barber Lounge to anyone looking a top notch new haircut. My wife was most impressed in my new appearance and let me know exactly how she felt that night :-) The compliments from co-workers keep coming as well! I have to rise in defense of this place--it's great. I had a really hard time finding a place that could cut my hair right when I moved to Baltimore. By chance, the Baltimore Barber Lounge opened up right next to my apartment shortly thereafter and my problem was solved. First--Kyle gives a great haircut. He's always taken his time, even when busy, and I've been consistently very satisfied with the final product. On top of this, he's an extremely nice guy, very amiable and easy to talk to, and he's very concerned with customer service and catering to the customer's needs. Second--the BBL is the kind of place that you don't mind waiting if you get there on a busy day. Kyle's provided a flat screen TV, comfy chairs, and a wide selection of reading materials to keep you entertained while you wait. I'd much rather wait an hour here for a haircut than 20 minutes elsewhere. Finally, it's very reasonably priced. Cheaper than the other options I tried, and centrally located. Unfortunately the word's gotten out, and if you go on a Saturday afternoon you'll probably have to wait, but if you time your visit on a weekday you'll most likely be fine.
