    Bean and cheese pupusas

We came in around 11 am on a Saturday, and the lunch rush came pouring in right after us. Clearly a popular spot with other Latino people too, so you know it's authentic. We ordered 4 bean and cheese pupusas and 2 chicken tacos and it all came in under $20. These are hands down the best pupusas in the area! The filling to masa ratio was perfect- I was stuffed after eating just one. The chicken in the tacos was really tasty and the portion sizes are big. They had a great menu with a mix of Salvadoran classics and American breakfast foods, so I'll be sure to order more next time. Definitely stop in while out antique shopping in this area!

Best Spanish and American food for to go or eat inside I highly recommend it for all Kensington area

    Chicken taco and tamale,

Food is fresh and made to order, so if you need it really fast, call in your order. Never had anything there I didn't like, and we eat there at least a couple times a week since work is around the corner. Prices are insanely low, we are tempted to tell Rosa she needs to raise her prices! If you haven't been there, try it , it will become one of your regular stops! Help support local small businesses!

    Very Yummy Pork Papusas

Very authentic food. The Pork Papusa was delicious. Ordered one chicken and one steak taco. The beef was a little chewy.

Awesome food, everything cooked to order, very reasonably priced. Don't sleep on the chicken tamales - they're fantastic.

Found this spot through Yelp and after reading all the great reviews, I decided to give it a try…read more One encouraging sign when I first walked in was that the place was pretty full, which told me I came to the right place. I ordered three chicken and cheese pupusas, and they were a great size. I was nearly full after the first two. The flavor was on point. My apologies for my photo because I was already halfway through my third pupusa before I remembered to snap a picture. I also tried the corn tamale, which my wife and I enjoyed a lot. On top of that, I ordered a steak taco, which unfortunately didn't make it into a picture either because I ate it too fast. What stood out to me was the "shell." Instead of the usual flour or corn tortilla, it uses the same masa dough as the pupusa, and I really enjoyed that difference. We finished our meal with the nuegados en miel dulce, something I had never tried before. I was glad I did because it was delicious and a great way to end the meal. Overall, the food and experience were excellent. If you are like me and rely on Yelp reviews to decide where to eat, I highly recommend giving La Casita Pupuseria & Market a visit. You will be well pleased like I was.

Could it be? Someplace where I love the papusas AND the tamales?!…read more I was craving chicken tamales and stumbled across La Familiar...and wished that it could've been sooner. They put a generous amount of chicken that had this delicious red sauce on it. Not sure what it's called but I loved it. They were thick, hot, and spiced beautifully. The elote tamales were, in a word, impeccable. They offered a fried option which was surprisingly delicious. The steamed ones set the bar pretty high yet here we are. Meeting and exceeding. You have the option of w/wo crema. The papusas were fluffy, filled just enough, and came with interesting fillings. I'm used to seeing pork, bean, and cheese. They offered squash (a touch of sweetness), bean and mint (literally blown away with how much I love this), and chipilin (adore). For context, Chipilin tastes like spinach and watercress had a baby. I noticed the cheese having a slight tang, but it wasn't off putting. Just different than other places I've tried. My only "gripe" (if you even want to call it that) was the curtido. It tasted good but something was off. Not off enough where I would avoid it, but it just wasn't the same. This is coming from someone who is extremely picky about that condiment. Not too fond of cabbage so maybe that's why. Now, the best for last...PASTELITOS! These amazing little pockets of happiness are stuffed with either chicken or beef and OMG OMG OMG. Every bite was pure happiness. It kinda reminded me of kibbeh. The handmade tortillas were amazing the next morning with some eggs and ricotta salata. So, if you're deciding on where to eat today, tomorrow, or next week...come here. I promise there will be something you love :D

We go here when our other Pupuseria is packed or closed. I will say this location is harder to get…read morehere and slightly more expensive which is why we tend towards our Pupuseria in Baltimore Avenue. That said, the service here is WAY better- not slow at all, they actually check on you and still use real plates (our place has gone to those paper baskets that they serve like burgers and fries in, which is fine but ...yeah!). In any event, the portion sizes are good and the slaw is awesome, we never have issues with the service but parking can be tight when they're packed. Overall solid and affordable pupusa option.
