This used to be our go to for incredible Chinese food. There was an older couple that were great. I think it has a different owner. We dont order out often. The last time I remember the quality not being the same, but decided to try again since there were some good reviews. It was awful! We ordered General Tso and chicken with garlic sauce meals and wonton soup. The broth of the soup was dark and my husband thought it tasted like it had tea in it. The chicken in both was very dry. Chicken and garlic sauce chicken was like leather. The general Tso wasn't very flavorful. The fried rice was overcooked. Most of the food went in the trash. It was a Sunday evening so I dont know if it was leftover food or what. The man working-I assume owner was very nice, but I'll be looking for a new place. read more

In Williamsville, this is a small tucked away restaurant in the Tops Plaza on Main St. Bamboo China is worth looking for among the little shops at the western end. It has new owners, new cooks since I was last here, pre-covid. But food is even better, going by the pork lo mein I had. Lunch special was $7.95 and included soup. It would also have included rice if I had wanted it. I didn't. I ate in, always an option, but most of their business is take out. I live about 11 miles away but have appointments in Williamsville a few times a year. Bamboo China is my reward for the drive. read more

Great but it's gone downhill. I think there's only one employee left. They quote you 20 minutes and you get there and you wait for over an hour on top of that 20 minutes if not more. I feel very lucky because I'm only 10 minutes away from the best tasting Chinese food around. When the chef whose name is David makes your food it is always very flavorful and heaping out of the container. The service was fast and friendly. Most importantly, the food was exceptional. The pork fried rice is prepared in stages and involves frying in a wok heated over 1,000 degrees. That heat changes the entire flavor and character of the dish. The other meals were equally flavorful and quantities easily covered the next day's meal too. Prices are more than reasonable. I have been craving Chinese food for 2 days now. Mondays apparently are the wrong days to decide to order Chinese food. My main place I go to and another place that has good reviews are both closed Monday. All a girl wants is some fried deliciousness and it was a big production. I selected Bamboo China. I haven't been here in years. I ordered the lunch portion of the sweet and sour chicken. It came with soup. I decided to go with hot and sour. I also ordered an egg roll. The sweet and sour sauce was thicker than I'm used to and more on the sour side, which was fine. It was just a different flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was good and crispy. The rice was ok. It wasn't as flavorful as my preferred Chinese takeout place that is closed Mondays. The egg roll was good too. Would I come back here? Certainly on a Monday I would, but I am sticking with my main places that I enjoy. And hope I don't crave Chinese food on a Monday ever again. read more

We recently moved, and decided to try our first pass at Chinese takeout in our new neighborhood. Bamboo China is nearby, and conveniently located next to Tops. So I went there to order at the counter, and zipped over to Tops for a few things while our food was made. The restaurant itself seemed clean enough, and typical of a somewhat dive'y but somewhat charming Chinese takeout place. The gentleman who greeted me when I walked in was sweet and friendly, as was the woman with him, I was getting the sense they are perhaps the married owners of the restaurant. I ordered four pretty standard Chinese takeout dishes: General Tso's, Chicken Lo Mein, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Chicken & Broccoli. The bill came to $48. That's a bit steep. It took less than 15 minutes to prepare everything, and it was boxed up nicely to bring home. The food itself was good, definitely not bad, but no standouts either. It was typical Chinese takeout food. I had the Chicken & Broccoli, which I always ask to have done in garlic sauce. It was spicier than usual. And it seemed like the container was heavy on the rice, and somewhat skimpy on the main dish. My husband enjoyed his General Tso's, but did have a couple odd crunchy bites that were off-putting. The kids had no complaints about the other dishes, but nothing that knocked socks off either. So our first experience at Bamboo China was alright. Nothing to completely turn us off from getting Bamboo China again from time to time, nothing that will have us running back in either. Plus the bill was was too high. We decided to get take out and try this place. We ordered the egg drop soup, beef curry, pork fried rice, and the pad Thai chicken. Firstly, this is the first time I have seen Pad Thai at a Chinese restaurant. I was impressed with its flavor and the quality of the chicken which was used! Unlike most Chinese restaurants, the chicken was diced thin and marinated well. The pork fried rice was good too and had sprouts, carrots, and a lot of flavor. The beef curry was awful and packaged in one of those takeout boxes and a mess to open. The egg drop soup was the worst I've had, as it was more egg whites and corn starch and missing the egg yellow/yolk. The prices were very reasonable. I would definitely go back for the pork fried rice and the pad Thai! The pork fried rice is exceptionally better than the their Chinese's restaurants I have tried in the vicinity. read more

Was looking for cheap and cheerful Chinese food and came across this place right beside the Williamsville Tops Market. The menu is typical of what I've seen around here - the saltiness is not! I ordered a combination plate to go - pork and veggies with a choice of rice. When I got home, I opened the box to find a giant serving but I soon realized that it was mostly rice. The pork was tender enough but very salty in fact the sauce covering the pork and vegetables was extremely salty I could only eat a couple mouthfuls before trying to dilute it with the rice. A little one eggroll sat in a little wax bag with no sauce included. I may try this place another time but this first time was very disappointing given that it had a decent review on yelp and given that it was so close and convenient to my supermarket. read more

One of my ongoing challenges is how to rate walk in walk out Chinese restaurants. The menu's are nearly identical and the seating space is almost always amongst the most limited of any eateries that serve food. So, how do you know where to go? What is the right place for you or more importantly for me. I was desperate for some hot Won Ton Soup since a dental procedure limited what I was able to enjoy for lunch and this little location right next to the Tops grocery, which I also had to visit, was perfect. The cold rain was pouring down ... the skies looked foreboding and my mouth was still numb from the time spent in the chair of the best dentist anywhere. As I walked in the door there smiling and enjoying his lunch was a friend who is also one of Western New York's top doc's. If a highly rated physician finds this little corner of Chinese food a good location that gave me great hope. I observed as the staff waited on my friend ... I observed the presentation that was top notch and the scent hit my nose turning on all those yummy switches. Clearly this kitchen knows what they are doing ... they make top notch fast moving Chinese food. Now, this is not a date dinning location nor a place to BYOB your most expensive Chardonnay and I still think heading out the door food in hand is a better choice if you like space when you eat. However, they treat customers like family ... the food selection matches other Chinese outlets and is lovingly prepared. My soup was perfect ... a broth more favorable than most take out's preparations and the morsels inside the won tons were very tasty. Decent food. The 2 times I've ordered Hot & Sour soup it disappointed. In 2020 it had no flavor and wasn't even brown in color, but was whitish. Spring 2022 it had too much vinegar, but at least tasted like H&S soup. I do like their fortune cookie messages, though. read more

I have been to Bamboo China twice in the last few weeks. There have been some great changes to many of their menu items. The Fried Rice is spectacular. I would say as far as Fried Rice goes they now have the best in the area. I've recently had their Lo Mein , General Tso, Garlic Chicken, and Fried Dumplings. Everything was great. This tiny little place is nothing to look at. It's in a strip plaza next to a Super-Cuts and a Tops Market. It has 4 tables, and one of them is covered with a television and old newspapers for customers to look at while they wait for their food. It's mostly a takeout place, I would guess. And, for lunch they have several items to choose from at $.99 a scoop. I would imagine the choices change frequently, but not being a Chinese buffet kind of gal, I opted to order off the menu and get my food freshly prepared. That freshly prepared food was mighty tasty.... as good as the food in pricier places. I had a combination plate. Not being the most adventurous sort, I opted for chicken chow mein and fried rice. And, you know what...it was DELICIOUS! Not too greasy...not too salty. The fried rice had nice little pieces of (not fatty) meat and eggs and veggies. The chow mein had wonderful WHITE meat chicken, crunchy veggies (even crunchy fresh broccoli...you don't usually see that in those fancy-schmancy Chinese restaurants). And, the portion size was HUGE! More than worth the $4.55. And, oh yeah..... that even included a free bowl of (very good) won ton soup.... with crunchy noodles on the side. I'll definitely be back! read more
