My family went there for a celebratory dinner and enjoyed every moment of it from the wonderful service to the delicious food and the fabulous ambiance. Everything we ordered was prepared to perfection. The steak I ordered was cooked perfectly. It was the best steak I have ever had. We also loved exploring Russell J. We were seated immediately, drink orders and the exciting menu Our dinners were not less than OUTSTANDING! 12 oz. Lobster tail, 26oz. Ribeye, the onion soup, Caesar salad I judge all Italian restaurants by the quality of their bread... it did not disappoint. Excellent! I wanted more. So I did get a take home bread basket. Russell is always at the entrance ready to greet you and share a kind word and smile. Our server and the other staff were all very kind, pleasant, and made sure we were well taken care of. I had the 9 ounce filet. It was cooked perfectly, medium rare. The dinner for two includes a salad(Caesar or house), or soup. The main course also has a potato(I had the mashed Yukon Gold) and a wonderful vegetable medley of carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans, all freshly steamed. Visited Russell's Steaks Chops & More for Mother's Day. The servers and other staff members were very friendly and welcoming, so I do want to acknowledge that. Unfortunately my interactions with the owner at the podium left a very different impression. During one interaction he scolded me in front of other patrons because he did not understand the response to his own question. The interaction came across as rude and unnecessarily embarrassing. Since it was Mother's Day, I chose not to engage because I wanted the day to stay positive for my mother and our party. Later in a separate incident while we were cashing out our group was directed to pay near the podium I guess group of Black women lined up to cash out was enough for the owner to question what was going on because he looked over and asked his assistant, "What's this?" in a tone that immediately felt uncomfortable and unnecessary considering we were simply cashing out like any other customers. When the assistant explained that we had separate checks, he rolled his eyes and appeared visibly annoyed. I did not want to ruin my mother's special day, but I also will not spend money where I do not feel respected or welcomed. Again, the rest of the staff was pleasant and professional, but my experience with management changed the overall experience for me. read more

Very disappointed in our recent visit. We have been coming every year to celebrate our birthdays and also stay overnight. I made the reservation weeks in advance for dinner and added a note that we were celebrating. I realize this may not transfer over from the 3rd party site they use but the waiters are always good about asking us when they first come over. We enjoy getting dressed up for the occasion and enjoying a quiet and intimate dinner. Well, it started off bad from the start when we were seated in the bar area on a Bills game Sunday . The game was over but the people at the bar were still enjoying their drinks and food with most in jerseys , the TVs were blasting and everyone was talking loudly in order to talk over the loud TVs. When we were seated, I asked why we were being sat there and was just that there was a 10 min wait for the dining area so this is where they sat us. They did not ask if we wanted to wait 10 the 10 mins because if they had, we definitely would have said yes! As we sat there with everyone getting louder and more people coming to the bar from the game, I just couldn't believe that they would even have tables in the area and would put people there without a choice. It felt like we were at a local sports bar not Russel's! When the waitress finally came, she didn't ask if we were celebrating and was just in a hurry to grab our drink order because she was swamped with other tables. I had mentioned I was not impressed with the seating area and she did offer to "ask if we could be moved" and without a guarantee and the fact we had already been sitting at the table , and it was already 7:45 so I was hungry I just decided to stick it out. My work had our yearly Christmas party here, it was my first time dining at Russel's. It was decorated beautifully for the occasion, pretty lights and lots of Christmas trees. Their banquet area was perfect for our small staff of about 40-50 people. The wait staff were attentive and polite, truly excellent service. For starters we had Caesar salad, which was delicious you could tell the dressing was homemade, and the cheese was fresh shaved parmesan. I also ordered the filet mignon, served with green beans and mashed potatoes. The filet was smooth like butter, delicious. I would have liked a little more seasoning, that is my only qualm. The mashed potatoes were homemade and perfectly smooth. Gravy was robust and had a lot of flavor. For dessert we had cheesecake with raspberry sauce on top which was very very good. I feel like I am repeating myself, we were here last year and picked the same menu. "Dinner for Two" for $54 a person. You can order it in any number, doesn't have to be 2! It includes a starter (choose from 3 salads or 2 soups, some have a small extra charge). There was a bread basket with excellent sweet cinnamon crisps, baguette and 3 kinds of butter (normal, sweet honey and with olives). For the main course there are 8 choices. As starter I picked the Caesar, which was nice and crispy and with not too much dressing. They offer ansjovis on it, but didn't mention the $2 extra. For the main course I picked the filet Mignon. For $8 you can upgrade from a 6 to an 9 ounce filet. It was cooked to perfection and came with a mix of steamed vegetables. Broccoli, green beans, culliflower and carrots.. 3 choices for the potatoes, I had the Yukon gold mashed potatoes. The dinner comes with a coffee or tea to end this dinner for two. I came in here with a sense of humor having seen the hotel off the Transit Road Thruway exit which looks like something out of Staten Island or Bensonhurst. The steakhouse is owned by the same guy apparently. Fortunately, Russell's is quite charming.... my SO knows the owner who greeted us...very cool to see this old world element to an eatery. Wait staff are very professional....I suspect some of them came out Russell's hospitality school which sits behind the eatery. The PEI oysters were very good..fresh and on ice. Filet mignon was excellent as well...medium is medium (steak joints should know how to do this..a lot of places don't). I had a couple of Manhattan's which were good...probably need to switch to a Luxardo cherry for the price point...that's nitpicking though. SO had the salmon which was unremarkable but well prepared. Finished w a banana cream pie which was really good...mascarpone included. Russell's is expensive, but there is an element here that you don't see in most places anymore. Russell runs a tight ship...even a required coat check (you cant wrap a coat around a seat), but we need more places like this in this day and age. read more

Russell's Steaks Chops & More is the best restaurant I've found in the Buffalo area. It's a totally new place, ultra-modern and ultra-chic with the best, most outstanding wait staff to be found. When I arrived, I can't say I wasn't surprised but impressed to find Russell himself right behind the host stand. Recognizing me he nodded and tapped on one of the other host greeters who escorted my partner and I to a banquette table and I swear the finest table in the house with an elevated impressive view of the entire dining area. I started off with a good Tanqueray gin Gibson on the up. I rarely order a Gibson as most restaurants have allowed their cocktail onions to spoil and become mushy or, they have none at all. To start I ordered a Ceasar with extra anchovies. I was delighted when it arrived as it not only had the usual romaine, croutons, and parmigiano but also a Reggiano cheese and white, not the canned black anchovies. For my entree, I went for the Filet Au Poivre with a heavy sear but done rare. I was sort of a complicated order but my waiter bever batted an eye and, when it arrived, it was perfect. The flavor-enhancing cipollini onion, cremini mushroom, and brandy peppercorn sauce brought the dish to the highest heights of deliciousness. I was at Russell's for my Birthday with my husband and I ordered a filet medium rare and a lobster tail. I felt my steak was medium and not medium rare. I notified the bartender since we were eating at the bar and she took my steak back to the kitchen to let them know. She then returned with my steak cut in half and Insisted the Chef said that it was Medium Rare!!! It was medium and not medium rare!! I felt insulted and should have asked to speak with Russell or a manager but I didn't want to create a scene and was trying to enjoy my Birthday!! They are also charging $3.00 for half pieces of bread wrapped in a white napkin which I thought was absurd, considering the price of everything in the restaurant. I was expecting so much more from this place. The service was mediocre and we went long stretches of time without our waiter coming by. The food was not worth the price either. The filet Oscar was very very fishy and the flavors of everything were pretty bland. My steak was cooked the way I asked for it and their coffee affogato was very good which saved the meal. Took the best guy out for his milestone birthday! Pulling in was spectacular! We pulled over in the roundabout so I could show him his HAPPY BIRTHDAY announcement and he happily took pictures of it! They got the message I typed out just right! We entered into the beautiful lobby, with the salt water tank I just love. We then gave our coats to coat check and checked in. Russel himself came over, looking dapper as ever with his blue suit that matches his Bentley and his gold jewelry. We were guided to the back of restaurant, dimly lit with warm reds and dark cherry wood. We got to eat in a beautiful booth for 2 (see my photos), overlooking the other tables. We ordered the dinner for 2. All meals come with the complimentary bread and butter. The dinner for 2 comes with soup or salad, side, and entree. Also coffee and tea. There are upcharges for certain sides, bigger sizes of meats, etc. I added goat cheese to mine (upcharge) but didn't care for the flavor pairing so brushed it off (not a quality issue, just personal). Everything was excellent and our filets were cooked as we requested and had a nice flavor. The demi glaze was rich and potatoes were nice. Oh, the house dressing is Italian and was good. My favorite part was the crème de brûlée we both ordered for dessert. Just perfection! Service was great and our waters stay filled, his other drink also kept with refills without asking. Something we never get. But they were amazing. Got my go to, anywhere I go, bone in rib-eye, and my wife got the stuffed veal chop. She loved hers and I loved mine. Great Restaurant! We were staying in the area and wanted to have a good meal before flying out the next morning. I saw this place on Yelp and headed over for dinner. It's a very beautiful establishment and the staff were all very nice. The food was freshly prepared and super delicious. I ordered a lobster tail and my partner ordered a steak. Once again this year, for my birthday, my wife took me to Russell's! And most definitely, I have to say it was a 5-star experience! In my case, I had a superbly cooked rib-eye steak with lobster tails. Before the main meal, the 2 of us had shrimp cocktail, and for restaurant-style shrimp cocktail, the portions were huge. When we arrived, we were expertly welcomed by Russell Salvatore himself and shown to our table by one of his staff. Surprisingly, Mr Salvadtore, at the age of 93, still has a passion for the restaurant, walking amongst the guests and asking folks how their meal was. If you have a chance, not only take time to enjoy your dinner, but by all means, visit his Veterans Memorial in front of the main parking lot. read more

First, we were forced to check our coats on a cold night, when my elderly mom wanted it to keep her warm, because of their "no coats on backs of chairs" policy. My daughter ordered her steak medium and it came out rare, as in very rare, & had to send it back. Food was just okay but at these prices, I expected spectacular. My penne vodka alla Russell (with the filet) were served in a pool of sauce & were so cloyingly sweet that I literally could not eat them---the worst penne in vodka sauce I've ever had! The underwhelming service, lackluster food, and rudeness at the host stand guarantees that we will never be back. There are too many excellent restaurants in Buffalo to waste our time and money here! It is a nice elegant, sophisticated restaurant, were I feel the need to dressed up and I enjoy getting gussied up for a fine night out, sadly not everybody feels that was any more. I started with the seafood bisque, which was creamy and delectable! I got the Neptune filet which came with delicious creamy, buttery mashed potatoes, asparagus and a fillet. I feel the fillet needed more flavor, spices or somethingI I ordered it medium and it came more medium rare, it was a bit cool for my taste but it was good. Many reviews in the last year from customers talking about Russell's going from one of the best restaurants in the area to patrons writing they will never go back. We are also a couple that frequented Russell's a lot, but never again. Russ was rude to us last time we were there when we asked for the same server that had waited on us for 10 plus years here!
