You get what pay for at Bamboo Creek. My husband and I had some time to kill while in Ojai so we decided to get massages. We called ahead and they were able to fit us in for 30 min oil massages, which was nice. We arrived, checked in, but didn't start our massage until about 15 min past our time. There is a monitor that shows when the massage therapists are available, so we could clearly see that we were not going to start on time. The overall experience is not very relaxing, and the massage, a mixed bag. They ask you oil or no oil (we chose oil), whole body / top body / foot (we chose top body given the time), and then bring you to an area. Your personal area is separated by hanging cloths so you can hear all the conversations and happenings in the front. My particular therapist left my massage about 5 times during my 30 minutes to go out front to discuss something before returning, and at one point, I looked up from the table and he had left the curtain open (while I was laying there unrobed!). As for the massage itself, my therapist spent way more time on my left side than my right, and just did the same thing over and over - it didn't feel at all personalized. My husband had a better experience than I, hence 3 stars. I know the price point is good but our experience of Bamboo Creek overall was unprofessional and not a valuable use of time or money. Came for a couple's massage and we even called ahead to make an appointment to save a spot. Turns out not really needed as we arrived pretty early in the morning and there were plenty of available walk-ins. The location has on-site private parking in the back so it's pretty convenient and it's located right outside of the main downtown area so it's less of a hustle and bustle area. Walking in, you arrive at the front desk area where you'll be asked what service you like. Very limited English speaking crew so less chitchat unless you can speak Mandarin. They even asked if I could speak Mandarin. The place is dimly lit in certain areas, but it's nicely decorated for a certain relaxing ambiance as well as appearing clean. The sheets felt clean and the massaging bed was relaxing to lay on. Anyways, we chose the sweet couple's massage, which involved a full body 60 mins and 30 mins foot massage. We were directed to the room and given time to undress and get ready. Once ready, they started promptly. I had Cathy, whom was pretty good I thought. She was able to maintain a consistent amount of pressure throughout the massage. I had asked for a 6/7 strength as I was very tense, and she was able to deliver. The massage is a hot oil type, and they use quite a bit of oil. They do try to cover you up adequately, but if you aren't okay with your waist/upper buttocks region touched a little, this might not be the best place for you. For instance, they place a towel around that area and around your neck when massaging you back to avoid spilling oil everywhere. They tuck the towel underneath your underwear so it won't slip. To be fair, I wouldn't want the oil to spill everywhere so I didn't mind the towel being tucked. Throughout the process, I was only asked if I wanted the same strength or soft/harder. The massage technique really works the area between the shoulder blades and it can kind of hurt if you are unprepared as they use their elbows in that area. While it hurts a little, the tension relieved was adequate for the amount of pain. Aside from their elbows, they use their forearms to rub and massage other parts of your upper body as well. I did notice that if you don't get the sweet combo, you don't get the foot massage and I will agree that is true. Even though I went for the straight combo, I don't see how they manage the time to do a "full body" if they didn't have the extra 30 minutes for the feet. All in all, the massage was decent and okay for the price point. They have a $2 charge fee for using credit to pay. They ultimately enjoy cash payments more. The biggest con for my wife was that her massage was purely in silence. Cathy spoke a little here and there to ask how I was doing, but apparently hers' never spoke a word to her. A drawback of language barrier. Their bathroom does have a standing shower, which I'm not sure if it's usable for clients, because they didn't mention anything about it. Worth a try to formulate our own ideas and I wouldn't mind giving them another try in the future. read more

My friend and I came here for their 90 minute hot oil full body massage. It was very good. I chose level 3/7 intensity and my friend chose level 4. They definitely worked out some knots in my shoulders and neck. The hot oil included hot stones which were very nice. The only reason I didn't give them 5/5 stars is because the full body massage doesn't include feet. They do have a massage that includes 60 minutes of full body plus 30 minutes of feet. I would do that next time because I really do like my feet to be included in full-body since my feet get the most wear and tear of my whole body. I would suggest to them that their "full body" massage signage specified that it doesn't include feet for people like me who assume that it does include feet. I don't wrote reviews to often but I went there last night and the whole time I was there I felt like I was bothering them for even being there. My masseuse kept burping over and over which is no big deal but she wasn't even trying to be polite about it. Twice she would be rubbing me and with the other hand be checking her phone. Sounded like instagram reels. She cut my.hour short by like 5-10 minutes and when I was going to the front to pay they tried pressuring me into tipping me. For the prices I was expecting a hole in the wall with room separators; instead it is a large, full on spa with quiet, individual rooms and everything. I was pleasantly surprised. The massage I got was amazing and definitely needed. The pressure was great, but much harder than expected since I marked "medium." I just can't give them 5 stars because the guy who did my massage smelled like cigarettes, other staff members entered my room a couple times to get stuff or to talk to him and at one point what sounded like a circus music track played. I rarely write a bad review. I thought I should though as I would have liked to have read this kind of review before going to the Bamboo Creek Spa. We had two treatments there. They were more like a rub down than reflexology or massage. The foot reflexology was just a lot of hard rubbing on lower legs and feet. When I said, "Please do this softer" she went harder. I finally got my request across. The ladies speak no English. I think they pick up on certain words but time and again they misunderstood even when I pointed to the services we wanted. During my massage (hard rub down) she ended with a head "massage". I normally love this as it stimulates the points on the head and feels great. She rubbed so hard that my head hurt when she was finished, hurt for days, and every time when washed my hair. I washed my hair this morning and it still is sensitive and that is 11 days later!! I think I understand the reviews now. This place is clean, has a nice setting and can be great. The first time I came I had a great massage. Today I came back for the 2nd time and my massage wasn't the best. It was actually quite painful. The lady didn't seem like she knew how to give a massage and was pinching my skin and rubbing hard to the point it felt like an Indian burn.. which I read on one of the other reviews. I think it is a hit or miss here. My mom had an amazing massage. She said it seemed like they knew exactly where to focus on and just felt great. I think if you're going to come here, stick with one specific person. Because I can imagine coming here for the first time and getting someone who doesn't really know how to give a good massage will make you never come back. My mom had her massage done by a lady named Jenny. Who she will now go to regularly.. I on the other hand need to find one who is just as good, since we go together.
