I just moved to town this June. This place is walking distance from my home. I want it to be good, I need it to be good. I do not want to have to drive to another town to get, what my wife calls "strip mall Chinese". This initial review is for my lunch time visit on 2 JUL 2025. I got carry out Hunan Pork, and Hot & Sour soup, as a combo,so it came with fried rice and an egg roll. I notice that the most recent reviews (glowing) were from 2023. Things can change, they can change overnight with a change of cook/staff or ownership. Someone local with more insight will eventually be able to fill me in. It is a nice enough place, overall. A bit run down, and a little bit cliche in terms of the decorating. With some light maintenance and a bit of editing on the decor, it could be a charming little spot, in a small Midwestern town. I am trying to be kind, becuase I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world, and have gone to many different levels of restuarants. I like "simple" americanized Chinese food sometimes, it is something I actually look for when I got o different towns. The good; hot & sour soup was very nice, just tangy enough from the vinegar and just spicy enough from pepper (didn't detect any hot sauce flavors) to be good. There were mushrooms, bamboo, and a bit of tofu. I missed the drizzled egg that I have had in others versions. The could have been better; the Hunan pork was very one note, salt, was tender and good portion in the dish, but that just salt flavoring made it a bit hard to enjoy. The sauce was okay, and the vegetables were well prepared and balanced. The egg roll was an egg roll, if not mass produced, it just wasn't made with real attention, it was a bit hollow. The bad: fried rice, the texture was just plain wrong from anything I have had over many years and came to believe was correctly made. There were no "chunks" of anything, just vaguely browned rice (soy sauce perhaps). I will come back, I will try other things. I will order from the high end of the menu and see if perhaps they simply , for complex reasons I'm sure, decided to mail it in on the weekday lunch combos (places do that). I want Bamboo Garden to be better. I want it to be a reliable place for me to get good "strip mall Chinese." read more

Food was amazing. Waitress did a great job. Very nice atmosphere. Will definitely eat here again. Best in town.

Primarily had the sushi and sashimi, and was blown away at how good it all was. I would wholeheartedly recommend the hike out here for the sushi/sashimi. Also they had pretty good bubble tea as well. Definitely an unexpected gem out here. read more

I really like this Chinese restaurant. I used to live about 15 minutes away and used to get it at least once a week for a little while but I moved away so I couldn't order or eat in as frequently as I used to. Now that I live even farther away, I still love coming here whenever I get the chance to visit the area because they do have delicious food and the owner still remembers me which is great! I have had their barbecued beef sticks which are one of my favorites there, their egg drop soup is pretty good though it has changed over the years. My favorite to order for the longest time is their chicken chop suey. I have also tried their beef and broccoli dish, their beef fried rice is great on its own, their hunan beef and moo goo gai pans are always delicious. The last time I went which was about a month ago, I tried their shrimp with lobster sauce and that was also delicious. I have plans to go there tonight and I can't wait to try out some new dish or pick one of my old favorites! Overall, the food is delicious, the servers and owners are personable and wonderful. There is really nothing to complain about, especially for a Chinese restaurant in a cozy, little town. read more

During my travels to Staunton I decided to find some local cuisine and got a recommendation to try the Bamboo Garden. I've had lunch there twice and was pleasantly surprised by the lunch special (for $5.35). You get to choose either 'hot & sour' or 'egg-drop' soup, then eggroll or crab rangoon, then white or fried rice, and then you choose between 7 entrees. I had hot & sour soup, crab rangoon, fried rice, and hot chicken, and I thought it was very good. I was starving about 2 hours later but that seems to be pretty standard for all Chinese food. Outside looked like a house not really appealing to visit. But when went inside we saw it was a look like a restaurant and pretty cozy too. I like their chicken fried rice, the rice texture not mushy and have a nice burn smells. Other than that they are just chinese food that have been americanized. And nothing really special about it but if you are in the area and you hungry for chinese food. This is the only chinese resto in Staunton. read more

The food overall is good. The crab rangoons are really good and the egg rolls are just okay. The portions are large though.

If you're looking for something outside of the standard road food, it's worth the short drive off the highway for a visit. The crab wontons were tasty and overall the "Complete Meals" we're a really great value. read more

Actually if it wasn't for the waitress I prolly wouldn't have been able to eat with my family because my baby also got hungry for her bottle and being as they weren't busy n we came in at a weird time she helped out. Disgusting! First, our server didn't know the menu. I asked for the Garlic Chicken without broccoli stalks. He said it didn't come with it. I opened my menu and it said broccoli stalks. I also asked for white meat only. He said it's only white meat. When the food came, it had dark meat in it. The server asked if I had a problem with dark meat. I said yes, I don't like it. The rice was also horrendous. They brought me another Garlic Chicken with white meat. It tasted horrible and the carrots weren't cooked. The owner came by to ask if I wanted a to-go container. I said no. She asked if everything was okay and I told her it was not good at all. She then had the gall to ask if I've ever eaten Garlic Chicken before. I guess they make it a habit to make their customers feel dumb. We will never, ever be back. read more

I have been ordering food from this restaurant for the last seven years at least. The food is delicious (I recommend the beef and broccoli or for spice lovers the hot briased chicken) and the owners are friendly and remember their repeat customers. Fast service, reasonable price, outstanding portion size, with a variety of possible combinations to choose from. I live in Tampa now and still make it a point to eat there when I visit. read more

Horrible! Since under new ownership, reports of food poisoning and the restaurant is flithy now. Food isn't nearly as good as when the previous owners had it and full of MSG. YUCK! Don't go there. Check into other Chinese place in town Very clean and no MSG. Asian Bistro is the place to go! read more
