As much as I try to steer away from buffets, I only went in here because this was the only restaurant open during the afternoon. See, they must not think that people eat from 2 to 5pm, be it local or non-local. I'm talking about those mom-and-pop places. But I went in here, and the staff was super friendly and the price was reasonable. They do take cards. Food was what I expected; a lot of it was dry, cold, or somewhat hot. That's what I got, and sometimes you get what you paid for. I certainly did! The workers did ask if I wanted anything fresh on the buffet, but I said no. I'm sure it's a favorite for Carlinville locals who want to stuff their face with Chinese food.

Excellent restaurant. Great food and wonderful friendly service. Always a delightful experience. Shi shi (Thank you). The proper response is Bucotchi which means you're welcome. I'm spelling that phonetically. Angela (not her actual Chinese name, but easier for us Occidentals [Westerners] to pronounce). I heartily recommend this place. If you like it, you're welcome to return. If it's not your cup of tea, that's alright. At least you tried. PS: I walked over there after I wrote this. I usually just get it to go. Angela was working in the kitchen. She's usually the greeter and staff mostly takes care of the kitchen. To coin a phrase, the poor girl was working her butt off. She did come out when it was time to pay and leave. The woman truly does earn her money the old fashioned way. The WORKS for it and hard. I just met the waitress for the first time. I am highly impressed. She's very intelligent and her powers of observation rival those of the legendary Sherlock Holmes. Very good personal philosophy as well. My experiences there have always been good. I can honestly say this last one was the best. I will definitely be back. Besides, I've got to meet Stephanie again. We had a conversation that started when I came in and ended when I left. It was interdispersed with her waiting on customers. She jumped from task A (our conversation) to task B (waiting on the customers) and back to A seamlessly and never missed a beat. Yep. I'll be back. Hope you get a chance to check it out yourself. Thank you for reading this and your patience. If I had more patience, I'd be a Doctor. (Random picture not related to the review. FYI do not ever eat at the Chinese place Panda in Carlinville the chicken was chewy and the crab Rangoon was fishy. DISGUSTING.

My favorite Chinese food in the county. They're very generous with portion sizes if you order takeout.

The food is pretty good, classic Chinese food, but you cannot beat the prices. 6 dollar buffet is the way to go!

I go to this buffet a few times a year and I definitely think it's worth a stop if you're in the…read morearea. Lunch and dinner prices are under $20 and vary by day of the week and age. They also have a carry out and made to order menu but I've only ever been for the buffet. Stand-out items for me are their freshly made sushi, potstickers, honey chicken, black pepper chicken, and lo mein. I love that so many of their dishes have big pieces of broccoli, onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc. In addition to the sushi bar they also have a stir-fry bar where you can go through and select your own raw items (including eggs, meats, fish, veggies, & noodles) and they cook it up for you in the sauce of your choice. I feel like I haven't found the sauce I really love yet and stir-fry can be so filling that sometimes I skip this part to make sure I have enough room for sushi and my other favs!

I think Ginger has descent food - it's all buffet and a wide variety. Traditional Chinese food,…read moreseafood, and a few American staples. I appreciate how clean the buffet is, well stocked and wiped down. I would eat here again, even if to ignore the not too friendly or welcoming staff. No one cracks a smile and it's a little uncomfortable. But the food is descent. Three of us ate for $53. If the service was more friendly, I'd feel better about leaving a tip & I do tip generously... I just don't think the staff is inviting or welcoming. If you can get past that, for Ginger a try if you're looking for a quick, sit down Chinese meal.

There are bad Chinese buffets and then there are BAD Chinese buffets. New China Buffet is BAD!!! I…read morecouldn't find one edible thing available besides the snow crab legs. Usually these mediocre Chinese buffets have decent soup at least. The hot and sour soup was nasty, almost made me choke from the chili pepper seeds and sour aftertaste. The selection is so limited. What is meatloaf doing on the trays? The hibachi had some of the toughest beef I've ever eaten and there was some eggshell left in the mix, not good. I wasn't brave enough to eat the piece of tuna sushi which looked more like a slice of roast beef than anything that should be served raw. Avoid this place at all costs!!!

I haven't been at this restaurant in a long time. The first time was about 8-10 years ago. I didn't…read morelike the food then. Fast forward to Oct. 23, 2023, I had a craving for fried rice. I got my styrofoam container and went to the buffet. Everything LOOKED good..... I got bbq ribs, fried rice, pepper steak, honey chicken, crab rangoon, egg roll, and lo mein. Got the meal home and ready to eat. The ribs were pretty good surprisingly. I don't usually eat pork of any kind from a Chinese restaurant but I figured I'd give it a go and I wasn't disappointed. Sauce was good and sticky so it made you lick your fingers. The pork tasted fresh, not old like other Chinese restaurants I've experienced. The meat was very tender. Pulled away from the bone nicely. The fried rice was not done. Crunch-crunch-crunch! I hate it when rice isn't cooked all the way through. Threw that away. The pepper steak was good. Some of the green peppers and onions had a good semi crunch to them. Tasty! The steak and gravy was good. I was able to cut the steak with a knife easily. Flavorful. Honey chicken.....Oh honey! Tender chicken. Not overly sweet. Great with white rice. Which I had to make because the fried rice wasn't done and it was crunchy. Tasty!! Egg roll... wasn't my cup of tea. It had a nice crunch when you bit into it but when I looked inside of it I couldn't make out what was inside of it except cabbage. The rest of the ingredients didn't look delectable. I threw it out. The crab rangoon was pretty good. It had a good crunch and the cream cheese mixture was good. But the crab rangoon didn't have a lot of the cream cheese mixture. So I felt a little jilted. ___ Last but not least the lo mein. Not much flavor in my opinion. Texture of the noodles was good. Needs more flavor for sure. A few more veggies would have been good. Just having el dente noodles ain't enough. Tasted bland. Didn't knock my socks off. Conclusion: I won't be going back to this Chinese restaurant. Yum No!! Good food? Bad food? That's the question! ‍ ~OSkoolG

The staff were very nice and courteous from everyone I encountered while there. I arrived early and my room was available, which I was thankful for; however, the early check in fee was a little steep but at least they were able to charge less due to the agreement with the conference organizer. The last day of the conference I asked to have a late checkout as I wanted to be able to go back to my room after 12 pm and change clothes. I was told that for a late checkout it'd be a charge of half the room rate. That was way too much. I wasn't going to stay long, I just wanted to keep my clothes in the room until I could come back and change before heading out the door to the airport. I'd recommend this resort to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in the St. Louis area and look forward to my next trip...I'll just make sure not to check in early, or ask for a late checkout.
