I love coming to this place the portions are huge they can leave you full for the whole day. The service is always quick and they're really friendly. I usually come to order soups but everything from the empanadas to the fish are great. My personal favorite to get is the ajiaco it's this huge soup that's a must but they only make it for the weekends. The go to soup the most people order and is really good is the sancocho. The soups come with rice and a side salad or you can get sweet plantains. If you like lemonade the Colombian style is awesome it freshly squeezed and comes in a slushy form. I can always expect some good Colombian food here. Being Colombian myself, I find the food to be really authentic. The service is good too and the food comes out quickly and hot! (2 important factors, especially when you're hungry). For instance, we asked for tostones and they accidentally brought plantano maduro. When we brought up the issue, the waitress didn't think twice and quickly brought out the tostones for us. No hassle and no embarrassing. I appreciated her ease to fix the problem. Bamboo has some great dishes, but my top 2 favorite are the Bandeja Paisa and Lengua. Both are classic Colombian dishes, and at Bamboo they get it just right! The portions are also pretty good. I often split a dish with my friend, or take some leftovers home. The only downfall is how small the place is, and how close the tables are to one another. I recommend going before or after the rush to avoid the crowded quarters. I'm sure you don't want to be hearing the entire conversation of your neighbor. My boyfriend and I went on a date here last night and loved it. Although, the place is rather small and a bit tight to eat. Does not mean their food was not great. I had a Mojarra fried fish with plantains and salad. He had a baby churrasco with steamed veggies and boiled potato. He couldn't stop bragging about how delicious his food was. Nonetheless, as for my dish, it was delish. We even had the colombian empanadas which he wanted to eat. Mine was chicken and his was meat. I liked the meat better. My boyfriend is a great fan of Colombian food and Bamboo has been his favorite spot for a while. He always enjoys having the traditional Bandeja paisa (white rice, red beans, steak, pork belly, fried plantains, a small arepa, topped with a fried egg. This is enough food for two, or for one very hungry guy like my boyfriend . For dessert, we always enjoy having the postre de Nata; also a very traditional Colombian dessert. Normally this place is always great. Tonight was a different story. I called in and asked for 7 empanadas and the lady said they will be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived 25 min later and stood around for 5 min until I had to ask for my order. She then told me that they were not ready yet. I asked her what was taking so long since I was told 10 minutes and she admitted to selling them to another customer. I was upset and asker her why she didn't have another 7 ready to go since I gave them plenty of time and her reply was "what do you want me to tell you?" Seriously, how about I'm sorry, how about it was my mistake I sold them, how about give me a few min and let me get another batch going forward you". At no point was she apologetic or accepting blame and did not try to make it right. Unfortunately, I left without buying them and am disappointed that the service was poor tonight. The empanadas are always freshly fried for you and come with a really good chilé sauce-- watch out, it is pretty spicy! We decided to wait and after 25 mins of waiting outside in the heat with a year old and a 6month old, she comes out asking us how many we were and when we told her again she said: "oh no but we don't have enough space, if you want to stay you would have to wait at least 25 more mins." He makes them pay for their own lunch, and if there are customers he rips their food out of their hands and throws it away. He also takes part of their tips. I'm sorry but I can't condone that treatment of the nicest waitresses I've ever experienced. My family and I have been loyal customers of this place basically since it opened its first restaurant on 56th. As I drove to the shopping plaza where Bamboo is located while on my lunch break I had no idea what I wanted to eat. As one of the other reviewers mentioned I decided to look for that taco place. Low & behold the place shut down and I just settled with food from my native country. I was just in time for their lunch special which was under $7. I had plantain soup, stew-type pork, white rice, patacon & a side salad. That was a heck of a deal. Since I only had less than an hr to eat I took it to go. It didn't take long to prepare & when I was enjoying my meal at work, my fellow co-workers kept asking, "Whoa, where'd you get that from?" . I would definitely go there again.
