Fruit addict my other favourite
Sohaib L.

This Bambu location has the best drinks, others don't match how good these guys make them. The place is nice and clean, with some seating. The service is good, sometimes it can be a miss depending on who is working. But overall pretty awesome place

There was only one person working, so it took a while to get our drinks. The taro lover (#7) was okay. There was not enough coconut milk, which resulted in the drink being too thick. Usually I complain of drinks being too sweet, but this one wasn't sweet at all.

Mangonada!
Christian C.

One word Mangonada. Seriously it's the best thing here. Each bubble tea shop has a little something special on their menu and for me, and after trying several items over the years, this is my go to. It's a perfect blend of mango puree + the tamarind straws which gives it a sweet/sour/tart flavor. You can still get your normal teas, juices, smoothies, and coffee drinks that you may see at most bubble tea shops with all the toppings and fixings to choose from. In addition they have some tasty mochi Ice cream. The staff have always been kinda "bleh" but the drinks are good so I've never looked too deep into their overall interaction with me. The parking isnt amazing, and turning onto or off of John R is always a hassle, but If you're ever near Madison heights and want a tasty treat, I'd recommend stopping by.

#3. Awesome Trio, less taro and beans and extra pearls. So yummy! I love this place.

I love this place. After we eat at the Vietnamese restaurant next door, we always get a Che at Bambu. I love their Che, so addictive.

Whenever I'm in town Bambu is always a go to! They have the best Vietnamese desserts!! It's something about the jellies, fruits, and coconut milk that make my mouth water whenever I think about it. Personally, my favorite thing to order here is the Bambu Favorite. My second favorite would be the Fruit Explosion. They both have a combination of coconut milk, fruit, and jelly that make for a tasty combo! I always mix it up and let it melt a little bit so it's almost like a thick dessert drink! I can never go to Madison Heights without getting a Che from here!

I was craving a Taro Bubble Tea so I went in to see if they had Taro Smoothies/Slush and they did! The place was super clean and had sneeze guards. The cashier was very polite and my order was correct. The bubbles/boba tasted fresh. It hit the spot!

Lots of options for drinks: tea, smoothies, coffee, and Vietnamese desserts. Like that you can adjust your sweetness level. Plus they have egg pudding as an option. Stopped in August 2019 -- they now have Thai green tea. IMO I think it's a little bitter tasting, but then again I didn't add any extra sugar to my drink. No pandan waffle here when I came to order.

Nice spot for Boba in Michigan outside Ann Arbor! After moving out to Michigan from the Bay Area, it's hard to find decent boba anywhere! Luckily Bambu serves a pretty solid selection of teas and things to put in them! It's just about as good of boba as you can get in Michigan, so if you have a craving for some good boba, check it out!

We started off the wonderful afternoon by heading to Noble Fish for sushi(shoutout to them for having bomb-ass sushi!!). The way there was a bit long, since they're so popular, so we headed off to Somerset Collection to shop for a little bit. After we left and picked up our sushi along the way, we realized that we were thirsty. We decided on heading to Bambu since it's pretty close. Bambu is a vietnamese chain, and this is located on a tiny strip. The parking lot is quite small, so we had to park in the white-ish building right next to Bambu. When we walked in, it was as lively as ever. The ambiance was nice and thet played modern songs, which fit well with the decor. The seating area was packed along with a line with many people. The wait wasn't long and we were greeted by a nice cashier. I ordered 2 things: a Regular Thai Tea with boba and egg pudding and a Regular Black Milk Tea with lychee jelly(for someone else). The Regular Thai Tea tasted so good. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and the add-ins. The egg pudding complemented the thai tea so well. 10 out of 10 recommend it!! However, the tapioca pearls(boba) was slightly too soft, hence the -1 star. Although the tapioca pearls were too soft, it also complemented the thai tea very well. I think that it might just be a hit or miss with some drink selections, but I can't be sure since I don't come here much. There are things that look good that I haven't tried, so I definitely have to change that. It's my second time coming here and this visit was so much better than my last one. Overall, I would come back here again. I need to try the other drinks and different flavoured macarons:)

Parking space is very limited and small. The store is small as well.. if you didn't know about the place you'd probably drive right past it without seeing it. I like that they have options on their menus and different kinds of add ons as well. The place is clean and runs on good customer service. Drinks & dessert were good. I got the Vietnamese traditional iced coffee for myself and that drink, is potent. Like strong A F. There's that aftertaste of coffee beans. Which is what we all need to pull through the day lol. I'd come again but if I could recommend any change, it's two things for them, that would be their chairs and how they call out on orders. I had my hair down and my hair got stuck to the chair. It's that chair that will catch your hair and make you lose some strands *crying emoji*. Second, please have numbers added to tickets or receipts so it's easier to call on the person/order. Would be much easier than to say excuse me to each different person for each different order each time.

2019-11-09 Bambū. Madison Heights, MI. French Macarons!
G I N.

2019-11-09 Bambu. Madison Heights, MI. Let me start by saying that there are not many Bubble Tea joints in SE MI, so I guess it hasn't really caught on down here. We've tried Bubbleology, Bubble Cream, Blossom Café & Bakery, The Detroit Bubble Tea Co., we've tried them at restaurants, and even supermarkets (168 Asian Mart), and none of them made the cut. Our neighbor told us about Bambu, so we made the effort the next time we were in the Mad Heights area. Bambu is located on the east side of John R, south of 13 Mi Rd. A small strip plaza with more than enough parking. Inside, the place is bright with light streaming in from the big bay windows. Tiled floors, plastic and aluminum tables and chairs provide a casual atmosphere. The place is small with a seating capacity of about 12 or so. The walls are painted sea green and wall art consists of their menu items. OK, so the place isn't fine dining, but I did say it was a casual atmosphere didn't I? A single flat panel TV sits atop the north wall, but it wasn't on so I'm not sure if it's just for show, or functionality. Menu boards are digital and by the ordering counter. Bambu serves more than bubble teas. They also serve coffees, teas, Chè (Vietnamese sweet dessert), lattes, real fruit smoothies, and juices. In addition, they also serve Ice Cream filled Mochi and French Macarons! The Milk Teas come with two add-ins for the regular size and three add-ins if you order the large. Drinks are custom ordered. You select your tea, your flavor, and your add-ins. There is no limit to the number of add-in's, there's just a nominal charge ($0,50 each) after your included amount. I was impressed with their menu selection, and hopeful that they know what they're doing. Today we had ordered a Jasmine Lychee Milk Tea with 2x Lychee Jellies, a Black Milk Tea with 2x Lychee Jellies, and a Awesome Trio Chè. NB: They accept credit card, but must be a minimum of $10 (2+ drinks). Jasmine Milk Tea with Lychee Jellies. The tea was light as expected with Green Teas. And I think my daughter went overboard when she had it flavored with Lychee and then added 2x the jellies to boot! The drink was overly sweet in my opinion, but my daughter liked it. I recommend 1/2 the liquid sweetener next time. I'd rate this drink a 1, just because it's Lychee overload. But that's not the fault of Bambu. The ingredients are typical (liquid sugar, lychee juice, lychee jelly), all of which is not made in house. So the only real thing that would be fair to grade them on is the Green Tea. Just about every Bubble Tea place (even those in Toronto) use a powder base, and Bambu is no different. There are different levels in terms of quality to the powder base that alter the flavor or scent of the drink but it was not discernible here (low quality powders are very aromatic, but not tasty). 4 stars for the tea. Black Milk Tea with Lychee Jellies. Black tea is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Green Tea. Rather than being lightly processed, Black tea is more oxidized making it stronger, bolder and richer than green tea. Black tea typically has more astringency and bitterness than green tea, thus, can stand up to sweetener and cream or lots of ice. if brewed correctly though, it can be smooth and flavorful. The black tea base with the Lychee was definitely a better balance than the greed tea. Still quite sweet, but the tea taste which much more prominent which made the drink much closer to what it should be. 4 stars. Trio Chè. Red Bean, White Bean, Mung (yellow) Bean, Coconut milk, liquid sugar, and Pandan Jelly mixed with shaved ice. A Vietnamese classic. The beans were good, but the pandan jelly seemed off (the texture wasn't right). 3 stars. Overall, the drinks weren't exactly amazing and blew my socks off, but of all the places I've tried in SE MI (and been disappointed), Bambu is leagues ahead of them. And for that, I'm giving them an honorary 5 stars for being "AS GOOD AS IT GETS". If you're reading this Bambu, add Mango Pudding to your list of add-in toppings! I still have yet to try Kung Fu Tea, Kuma Boba, and Kawaii Bubble Tea, but they're on my radar. We'll see if Bambu can successfully defend their title. If you would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

Best bubble tea in this area. It's the closest to the original as possible in MI. I always get the black milk tea with bubbles. Always.

Any vegan options?

I agree with everyone's responses above. Most Asian places use Agar (seaweed base) for their jellies. The staff are super nice - just call and ask :)

What a fun spot for the meal and dessert!…read more Love the make-your-own pot - it's a savory, custom, spicy pot of goodness. Perfect over white rice. So hearty! Good options from meats, veggies, noodles, fish/meat balls, etc. Very easy to rack up to nearly 2lbs of food... but makes for great leftovers. Had to top it off with a refreshing, icy dessert. We saw a few reviews and thought we had to try it - we ordered three entrées, as well as a bubble tea. The bubble tea was amazing - we ordered an oolong lychee tea with Boba. The boba was soft and chewy and exactly the right texture, and the tea was perfectly sweet and fresh. Out of the three entrees that we ordered, we loved the wide rice noodles with beef the most. It was so delicious with great beefy flavor, and just the right amount of char on the beef. The noodles were also done to exactly the right consistency. We also loved the pork belly rice bowl, which felt like a dish that my mom would make at home. The mapo tofu was also incredible, with just the right amount of that numbing Sichuan peppercorn flavor. Overall, the portions were huge! We didn't expect to get as much food as we did, and we definitely have leftovers for the rest of the week. Love this place, and we will be back again!

I got some sticky rice, a beef rice roll, fried sticks, and tofu skin rolls. From Tabe sushi we got a tempura chicken roll. From Yuan Yang, we got chicken skewers, a chicken sandwich, and two drinks, a mango pomelo sage and watermelon coconut water drink. It was all pretty good, some a bit more expensive than others, but we will definitely be back to try more. We cannot wait to try Mala Town and the yet to open Thai food stall. I was also happy to see the main store food court area is still available. We ordered a to-go plate for my other child. She wanted crawfish. It was such an amazing deal, we got 2.5 pounds of spicy crawfish for $20! You can see the photo below. It was so large, they put it in a metal tray and I needed a box to get it home. Although three of us were eating it, it was quite literally party sized. I love all of the updates they are doing here, including creating a new grab-and-go area where they were placing sushi from the food court, and their updated toy section in the front. It seems like they are making a lot of positive changes here. I do miss the old area near the bakery where you could get Halo Halo. Perhaps they will bring back that dish to the food court?

You can also place an order for items pictured on the wall by number. We placed an order for the duck soup $10.99 - duck was good but soup broth wasn't flavorful and noodles weren't fresh and were overcooked. It came in a carry out bowl, comparable to an XL size instant ramen bowl. Service in this area was ok, the cashier taking the order was impatient because we could not understand what she was saying and thus took longer to place the order. BBQ - we ordered the roast duck rice meal which came with a lot of rice, chopped duck pieces, steamed green veg and a small container of sauce. Duck meat was very tasty but very cold, and deceivingly a small amount of meat in the meal because it was full of bones. Regardless it was still a decent value for $8.98. Service was quick, but a bit unfriendly as well. I would come back to buy the roasted meats but would buy whole or large cuts (I.e. whole duck, whole chicken), cut it up myself to minimize bones in each bite and warm it up at home.
