There was a ton of different flavors in the curry part of the dish. I also had a Thai Ice Tea which was refreshing. They don't take reservations on Friday or Saturday nights, but we ended up waiting about 30 minutes for a group of 5 which wasn't too bad. The restaurant felt like a neighborhood gem. How could anyone not love this place. Some of the best thai food in Nola and definitely on the westbank! The ribeye ramen is always chef kiss. Also tried the fried ribs and the lamb curry which was delicious. Probably would have gotten the lamb with rice instead of noodles. This was maybe my third or fourth time visiting Banana Blossom, and I've honestly had a great experience every time. BUT I always came specifically for the whole fish... and they were always sold out. So when I finally got it today? Baby it was worth the wait! First of all, the fish is HUGE. It literally barely fits in my togo box. Crispy on the outside, tender and flaky inside, sitting in a kind of garlic sauce and topped with diced mango and onions that gave it the perfect sweet + savory balance. I also got the roti (which is a MUST every single time you come here). Golden, flaky, buttery layers served with dipping sauce...I don't think I've ever looked around and not seen roti on every table. I took myself on a little solo date and sat at the bar, which I actually loved. The staff, as always, was sweet, attentive, and super helpful. Now let's talk about the White Lotus cocktail! So pretty with the orchid garnish and tropical vibes, but even better tasting. Fruity, smooth, slightly creamy...you can taste the mango and Saint-Germain, and it had that perfect refreshing finish. Definitely one of those "order again" drinks. Overall: great food, beautiful presentation, strong drinks, and consistent service. If you've been debating the whole fish, just get it. Stopped in for lunch and was thoroughly pleased. Restaurant sits on the corner with street parking only. And the streets are tight and busy. The inside has a nice ambience, small but enough space to be comfortable. The service was great from the host to the server. The food was even better! The flavor profiles for every dish we had was on point. For starters we had the crab claws, BBQ oysters w/ Roti bread, Kimchi rice & smoked wings, and caramel ribs. The fave was the kimchi rice and wings. The smoke flavor paired well with the sauce and the rice was subtle, not overpowering. The oysters were nicely fried and the sauce was a great dipper for the bread. Crab claws were a nice size and plentiful. Ribs weren't tender, but flavor was great. We then ordered one entree to share, the Lamb Chiangmai. The lamb was so tender and very well seasoned. I'm not big on curry, but this curry was delicious. It didn't take over the dish and was even with every bite. To wash everything down, we tried some mocktails. We dined here over the summer as this Thai restaurant has been on my radar for a long time. We made reservation, which I highly recommend. I would consider this place a more upscale Thai establishment compared to others in New Orleans. The first thing I noticed was how clean everything was. The restaurant is not very big, it seats maybe 40 customers. There is a long table top in the center of the restaurant with sort of high chairs, and that can seat your large party. The other tables are tables for 2 or 4 people. There is nice clean decor throughout as well as this beautiful giant plant in the center of the main table. The parking is off street as well and if you are going during a high peak time, you may need to walk a distance. We ordered lots of apps. The fried dumplings, the eggrolls, the steamed dumplings, and the pork belly. I think pork belly as probably my favorite and I enjoy the dumplings and their sauces, but the pork belly was my star. I ordered the chicken ramen as my entree, it was good, I was expecting a bigger portion, but I was definitely full when I left. I didn't find the flavors singing to me like some of Thai restaurants I have tried like Good Catch or Cafe Equator or TukTuk. I did enjoy my meal and like that the photos on the menu match the dishes, complements on the perfect execution of plating. The manager came out and spoke to us; he was very friendly and welcoming. I have been on a journey to try as many of the Thai restaurants in the city as I can. And this is probably the best one on the West Bank (at least so far). It was a busy Friday night and I'm glad we got there when we did because it only got busier and a party of 5 can sometimes be hard to accommodate on a busy evening. Such a hidden gem! No name on the outside--just a ramen bowl decal--and I'm obsessed with the mystery. I suggested the owner add a tiny banana to the bowl for a cute touch while keeping the vibe. I had heard such great things about this place that maybe I had hyped it up too much in my head, but I found my experience here to be rather disappointing. To be fair, my standards for Asian foods may be a little high. People really love this place though, so go there and judge for yourself! Honestly, my main complaints are that: *I think they are catering to aesthetics here too much and need to focus more on the food itself. The presentation of the food and the restaurant itself is Instagram ready, but the quality/taste of food is meh and unenthusiastic. Why do they not believe in seasoning their protein before cooking? *Their portions are fair overall, but they skimp on the protein and go too heavy on the cheap carbs. They are way too overpriced for what they serve. *Their noodles suck. Period. Don't order any noodles. Seriously. Maybe their other dishes are much better! We couldn't order too may things to try since we were only a party of two. We tried their: *Crawfish basil fried rice small plate ($15) - This was actually very good! The Thai basil was prominent throughout the dish and gave it great flavor. They did NOT skimp on the crawfish for this and there were plenty! *Smoked pork belly ramen small plate ($15) - They used instant noodles... Not the decent kind of instant noodles that are frozen fresh noodles. No, they used the dehydrated kind that's found in $0.30 ramen packs... Really??? The dish is at a restaurant and you're using $0.30 ramen packs? That's really sad. It comes with half an egg and pork belly on top of it. The half a boiled egg was overcooked. Eggs should not be boiled for more than 7 minutes to keep the yolk from completely solidifying, especially in a dish claiming to be ramen-adjacent; eggs for ramen should be "hanjuku" (translates to "half-cooked"). Also, HALF a boiled egg? You couldn't even give us a whole egg? The pork belly didn't impress either. It was just not cooked properly, it needed to be cooked on lower heat for longer to render the fat properly. It was far too chewy. Furikake is traditionally used on plain white rice because the flavors are kind of mild and a well-seasoned dish would overpower it. Therefore, the furikake sprinkled on top felt fancy, but it's just a topping for aesthetics here, it did nothing to add to the flavors of the dish. The noodles were cooked in a flavorful sweet sauce, but the dish itself felt one-dimensional since the pork belly seemed unseasoned with a layer of the same sauce to compensate. It wasn't terrible, but I would not order this again. *Korean ramen crispy chicken ($23) - Instant $0.30 noodles, again. Cue my eye roll. Zero seasoning on the panko nor chicken, which would have been okay if they had used a really great sauce to top it, but alas, no. In Korea, they may not season the protein or the panko, but they'll make it up with a great sauce. Here, there was no marinade for the chicken and no seasoning for the panko, and they had complete reliance on a basic sweet chili sauce that was akin to duck sauce. There was nothing Korean about it... If they were calling it "Korean", they could have at least incorporated gochujang, doenjang, or ssamjang into their sauce. To make matters worse, they used the thinnest possible chicken piece they could. I swear, the chicken was half the thickness of my phone... way to skimp on a $23 dish The pro tip I learned about after we had already ordered and eaten a good amount is to ask for a noodle replacement - you can replace the crappy $0.30 noodles for several different types of noodles or rice Overall, I don't recommend this place personally, but I also haven't tried too many of their menu items. I would tell you to try it once to see for yourself! read more

As we were on the highway driving away from downtown i used yelp and put Thai food, saw banana blossom and its decent star level. Still having low expectation i pulled up actually impressed with the building and i parked outside the from window, feet from front door, which is an extra star alone for me!Then on the door the place said been in business since "however many years, i forget" so things were looking up. Let me tell you, when i opened the door and saw the immaculately clean and beautiful restaurant, my expectations i had previously were out the door. We were greeted and seated in seconds. We were greeted by our waitress, who let me tell you, she was a very stunning lady with a gorgeous smile . She gave us the menus and waters very quickly. When we opened the menu, both my friend and i were over the moon excited about it. There were pictures of every item on the menu. How many people can't read or can't see well enough to read from other places menus 2. The menu was not your everyday Thai restaurant items. I then knew i was not leaving there without spending a fortune on multiple plates. Yet my buddy ordered even more than i did. He ordered 3 plates and i ordered 2. My favorite Thai dish is the pad see ew, so that's what i got. i had a list of my top 3 pad see ew in texas/Louisiana, this one is now the #1 on my list. Previously held by a place called Thai thumbz in Richardson Texas. It had a flavor unlike any other pad see ew I've ever had. Similar to others just something in it was different and eye popping out good. Every bite made me want to dance in my chair. I know for sure i was moaning and my eyes were rolling in back of my head. I of course finished every last drop of it. And btw, the food was to our table really fast, not that i was in a rush because the ambience there was relaxing and comfortable. Oh to my second dish of love, errr plate of food i mean. Surprisingly to myself i had never eaten Thai style bread, aka roti... it's pretty freaking AMAZING, and not just because of the bread was i moaning again, it came with a sauce that was similar to my favorite India restaurant sauce. I think it was a curry sauce if I'm not mistaken. I could have drank a 40oz of that for breakfast and all other meal, everyday of my life. It's been 6 hours 33 minutes since i had eaten it and wrote this review and ive thought about that sauce the whole time. It's ingrained in my head until i return. Which hopefully wont be till long but i live in Texas and headed home in the morning. Now on to my friends 3 plates that he ordered but of course i was eating it let's start with his spring rolls. Im usually not a fan of fried foods so i was hesitant but tasting my food i knew it was probably going to knock my socks off. Well, it did. It was definitely an elevated fried spring roll. Whatever flavors they added different than other places were well placed, I'm now a lover of "some" fried foods. The sauce it came with was a sweet and sour type sauce but it was clear instead of the usual red colored sweet and sour sauces. I also dont eat much sugar but i did eat some of that and it was fantastic. Though when i ate more of his rolls i dipped them in my curry sauce from my roti plate. They should offer both sauces for those spring rolls. I will say 1 thing i was saddened by but they won't let any stars or respect from me but they need to add steamed spring rolls to the menu. Not everyone is a fan of fried foods and had they had them, i would have ordered 2 orders of them. So, my friend also go the pad see ew but he didn't get protein as he is vegan but he was also moaning, in a good way, like i did, with every bite. His first words when he took his first bite and looked at me was "holy shit, this is the best tasting food i every had" he as well is very versed in Asian cuisine restaurants across the country and said same as me, this was the best. I ordered their Roti ($7.00) as an appetizer, their Smoked Pork Belly Ramen ($15.00) as a small entree, and the Nutella Roti ($9.00) & Thai Tea Ice Cream ($8.00) as the desserts. I also got their regular Thai Tea ($5.00) as my drink. Their Smoked Pork Belly Ramen was so juicy, tender, & flavorful. The tangy bbq sauce added so much to the dish in a good way. Roti was good as always. The Thai Tea Ice Cream was so rich and had enough variety for the price. This restaurant can be pricy, but since it's considered a fancy restaurant I'd say the quality is worth the price. I'd come back on a good occasion! I've been to BB a few times, and each time is a treat! I decided to go here this time for my birthday dinner. There aren't any reservations so we arrived as soon as they opened for dinner at 5:00. For my first cocktail, I chose the happy hour Lemoncello Spritz. My second was the Namaste. Both were really good, but the Namaste was exceptional! We ordered the Crispy Dumplings and the Kimchi Rice and Smoked Wings for starters. The dumplings were perfect and hot. The kimchi rice was a different flavor than what I'm used to, but it was really good. The wings were tasty as well. Another easy 5-star review! All Yelpers should get excited about visiting Banana Blossom. The entire staff is extremely friendly and will proactively recommend entrees for you to try if it's your first visit. Get there as soon as they open (5pm) to ensure there is no wait and try the early bird discounted appetizers. The steamed dumplings, fried ribs, and the Thai shrimp pasta are some of my favorites. The bartenders make a very good old fashioned. There is also a huge dessert selection. While waiting for your food your food to arrive, pay attention to the details inside the dining room such as the fresh flowers and art on display. I went for dinner on a weekday with a group to see what the hype was about, but parking was challenging and extremely limited. Inside, it's small, busy, and loud. The ambiance is nice and elevated, but it was hard to hear and have a convo over the noise. I ordered the crispy dumplings (happy hour menu item) and the Kao Pao Ribeye Ramen. The dumplings were fine but, not memorable. The ramen was salty, not filling, and lacked a wow factor. At $25, I get that ribeye is pricier, but for the taste, it wasn't worth it--and despite requesting no egg, it was served with a fried egg with a runny yolk on top. Service wasn't terrible, but our server clearly had too many tables, which slowed things down and made her forgetful a few times. It took a long time to receive the check and close out. Heads up: No separate checks, 3% card fee, and I've read there's a 10% takeout fee, so I'd probably skip to-go orders. I'd prefer the option to tip for a to-go order. Some other menu items seem interesting, but overall, this visit wasn't my cup of tea. read more
