My wife and I visited Miss Shirley's on a co-worker's recommendation. Despite there being no line when we arrived, the wait for a table was a little over an hour. Thankfully, Magazine Street offers plenty to do to pass the time! When we were finally seated, our table was toward the back near the kitchen. The interior is a cozy but tightly packed space, which means it gets pretty loud with all the chatter bouncing around. However, any issues with the crowded feel vanish once the food arrives. The food and service easily make up for it. Our waiter brought out complimentary fried beef dumplings with a house-made chili sauce that tasted incredible. We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice (shrimp, pork, chicken, egg, pineapple, and onions) and it was absolute perfection. We also got the lightly battered Orange Ginger Chicken with broccoli, which had amazing flavor. Well worth the visit!
We decided to only order what we never have had at Miss Shirley's before. The egg drop soup was fantastic. So Lucious and dense. Fried shrimp wonton were crispy fried with lovely fresh shrimp inside. Crabmeat udon had large pieces of lump crabmeat among the well seasoned noodles. Just another great meal at Miss Shirley's
Short weekend trip for a wedding and had Friday morning/ afternoon to roam and we knew not to waste time. Immediately we're 2nd in line for the 11:30 opening. So excited for some dim sum. The free sample of the chicken stuffed dumplings with the delicious chili oil had us humming. Husband and I won the clean plate award and decided not to share the pineapple rice as we had seen our neighboring diners order this and the portion was generous for a 4 top. We were very satisfied with just the dim sum and told Ms Shirley she is the best as we caught her running through the dinning room making sure her guests were happy and enjoying. Then walked some off shopping on Magazine. Also shout out to Gabby our server for such quick and friendly service!
We came here on a Sunday, so there was a wait. I think we waited maybe 45 minutes. We ate an empanada at a nearby restaurant to satiate our hunger lol and we also went thrifting at a nearby store to kill time. We had eaten a lot of meat on this trip, so we were desperately craving some vegetables. Visiting this restaurant was such a good choice. When we finally got our table, the service was quick and efficient. They brought out the complimentary fried dumplings and cucumber salad, which were good. We also ordered pork soup dumplings, fried rice, green beans, asparagus, spinach (?), and chicken wings. The star of the show was surprisingly the GREEN BEANS. Simply SPECTACULAR. We all agreed that was our favorite dish. My least favorite dish was the asparagus; it tastes plain. It's a pretty cute restaurant. There are some circular tables for family-style eating and regular tables for smaller groups. Miss Shirley introduced herself to us and checked on our table a couple times. We had seen a viral video of this restaurant, which showed the charming Miss Shirley, so it was really lovely to see how charming she truly is. They also gave free beignets at the end of the meal, which were delicious. Thank you so much for the delicious meal!!
After eating so much hearty and rich NoLa food, my friends and I were dying for some veggies or Asian food. As we were gallivanting around Magazine street, Dom found a Chinese spot from some IG reel. Since it was Mother's Day, there was a line of hungry families but we went thrifting while we waited. They use brown rice instead of white for their fried rice and it still managed to be flavorful and had a nice texture. Pork soup dumplings were decent. I didn't have any salt and pepper wings but they looked nice 'n crispy. Aaaand.. we ordered not one, not two, but three dishes of veggies! Asparagus, pea shoots, and garlicky green beans (a fan fav!) were devoured so fast. A leafy or green veggie hates to see us come through. Ms. Shirley herself said hi to our table and checked in on our dining experience. Every table gets complimentary mini beignets and fortune cookies at the end of the meal.. sweet mix of Southern hospitality and Asian "eat more"!!" mentality.
Unexpectedly came in for a quick bite to eat in between meals. The restaurant was quite busy when we visited. The food wasn't the best Chinese food I've ever had but it was pretty good. When you first sit down, they bring out complimentary dumplings with a trio of sauces. We got the salt and pepper squid which were nice thick pieces of squid. The shrimp toast was pretty tasty. Nice crisp and stuffing. The steamed sticky rice in a lotus leaf was HUGE. That in itself could be a meal and the meats inside were a good hearty size not all chopped up. The shrimp toast and the squid come on top of greens which I didn't really like as they wilt with the heat of the items. The service was great! Our server was friendly, welcoming, and quick. The bathroom was quite pretty with the detailing on the doors and the dragon water sprout.
I cannot begin to tell you how great our experience was here. Every year we come to New Orleans and have wanted to try Miss Shirley's. We finally made it this trip and our experience was incredible. Our server was wonderful and helped us narrow down our orders because everything sounded so good. We didn't have a bit of a wait because we came on a Friday night. We ordered a bunch of things to share and everything was delicious! We are missing good Dim Sum where I am from, so I will be thinking about this for a long time to come. Miss Shirley was everything we had heard about her! She came to check on our table many times and was even kind enough to take a picture with us! Can't wait to return!
Ms.Shirley's restaurant . I'm not too big on Asian food but I was so pretty amazed! Me and a few friends decided to order family style and it was the best decision . We ended up getting: - Crab Rangoon - Beef short ribs - Fried shrimp rice - Pork lo mein noodles - Sesame chicken - Bottle of Sake Upon arrival since there was a bit of a wait they brought over some Pork dumplings ! Oh my so good. They also brought out some beignets and some icecream beignets. I absolutely loved that Ms.Shirley was there herself!! She was the sweetest lady. Our server was also pretty amazing (I feel terrible I forgot his name ) Top notch experience ! If you haven't been it's a must try! Do not sleep on this spot
Totally worthy of all the hype!! Hands down the best hot and sour soup ever. We had the shrimp in garlic sauce, sesame chicken, szechuan chicken and dragon rolls. Everything was delicious. Miss Shirley was there working like crazy while visiting every table with her beautiful smile. The staff were super friendly and very attentive.
Went on a Monday night at 6pm and the wait was ~45 mins, so we put our name down and walked down Magazine to The Bulldog to grab a drink. the place was super busy, pretty loud and full to the max. Server was friendly and offered a rundown of the menu since we were all first timers. It's more of Chinese restaurant fused with Nola local flavors. Best things on the menu: - dragon dumplings = Xiao long bao / soup dumplings with red wine vinegar. Came in a super cute presentation - pork dumplings - special chicken potstickers they started the night off with. Would say the best things on the menu are the dumplings. Would go back to try more dim sum items Portions are a really decent size and we over ordered for just three of us. The crispy duck wings - in truly Nola fashion are deep fried (didn't realize that.) Snow peas - has a bit more of a sweeter taste Hot and sour soup - good Combo lo mein - good, very big portion Sichuan chicken - good, but also seemed like it was fried I think if you're looking to get a bit of your Chinese food fixing on - it definitely satiates, but not true authentic, but would return.
First time at Miss Shirley's and she did not disappoint. The dragon and beef dumplings were impeccable! The pineapple fried rice was filled with flavor alongside their beef short ribs! The snow pea leaves were also great. If there's an opportunity to visit Miss Shirley's; you should take it!
Miss Shirley's is absolutely my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city. Though there's always a wait outside, it's always worth it. I'm happy that I can always get great dimsum at a reasonable price. This time I ordered wonton soup. It was perfect starter and helped warm me up from a cold day. We also ordered the sesame chicken, combo fried rice, beef short ribs, tropical glazed shrimp, crab meat shumai. It was a lot of food but everything tasted great! It was insanely busy as always but the service was kind, attentive and quick. I'm a repeat customer and can't wait to come back.
Miss Shirley's is the best Chinese food that you will find in New Orleans! The food is so so so good. Not touristy at all. Very cute vibes inside. Many dishes are served family style. We ordered a bunch of dumplings/apps and passed them around to each other so we could try as many things as possible. Everything is amazing but here were my favorites: tropical shrimp! Dragon dumplings (soup dumplings)! Pineapple fried rice! Service is excellent. Miss Shirley herself makes sure everyone in her restaurant feels well taken care of and leaves as family. She goes above and beyond for her customers. It's amazing people like her that make restaurants like this so important in New Orleans.

After we got off work today. Charla took me down Magazine St to Miss Shirley's. I knew Miss Shirley from the Royal China days in Metairie. Back then it was my first Dim Sum experience and then when I worked in Heritage Plaza during Katrina recovery days we ate lunch there at least once a week. But this is all new! I'm so happy for Miss Shirley and the amazing place that has her name on it on Magazine St. The food was exceptional. Everything from the short ribs to the Soup Dumplings, to the Moo Shu with those paper thin pancakes. Everything was fresh and fantastic. What a great time and it was so good to see Miss Shirley again after all these years. read more

We waited for 45 minutes because I think everyone in New Orleans thought the same thing we did "tonight is stormy, that feels like dim sum weather". The wait was worth is because we had a great time at Miss Shirley's. Once we were seated we were brought dumplings, I couldn't have any because I'm vegetarian but I appreciated the quick and complimentary plate! I would say there was about as many vegetarian options as I thought there would be, which is a moderate amount. I didn't really like the vegetable dumplings (pictured with the skewers through them) mainly because I just didn't know how to eat them. I think if we had received chop sticks I would have enjoyed eating them more but having to use the fork was awkward. The sauteed tofu was the best thing I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant, I've been thinking about it frequently over the last 24 hours. Even if you aren't vegetarian and if you've never had tofu before but been curious - you have to start there. Or actually don't because no tofu will ever compare haha! From my non-vegetarian dining partners: the xiaolongbao that came on the mini swings was yummy, the crab meat shu mai could be skipped, the chicken was delicious, the fried shrimp balls are a must have, and the gyoza was good. Went here for a birthday dinner and we arrived as soon as they opened because there aren't any reservations. We were greeted and seated immediately and we ordered some drinks. I had the Kinda Famous and Yuzu Collins cocktails. Both were delicious and effective! We ordered all dim sum items. They were all really good but my favorites were the crabmeat dumplings and the beef short ribs! Everything was so good and we were pretty full! We even met Ms Shirley!! I'm definitely planning to return to get the crispy duck wraps! I need it! read more
Wow! So glad I finally made it here. The energy was so vibrant the second you walk in. There was a lot of people waiting, but with the quick service and super efficient and friendly staff, everything moved quickly. Our group sat at a large round table that was perfect for sharing plates. We tried so much delicious dim sum. My favorite was an eggplant dish. It was perfectly cooked packed with fresh, delicious flavor. Miss Shirley herself stopped by to see how our food was. I think that is such a lovely touch to have an owner who is still so involved, even with all of the restaurant's success. After we were done, they dropped off beignets for a post-dinner treat. The perfect way to end such a lovely and hospitable evening. read more
This was a fun spot to check out in New Orleans while I was there for a work trip! They have amazing dim sum. I went with a group so we tried soooo many items from the menu I can't even recall them all. But I did try them all lol and I really did like each dish. I love how I got to have a more authentic dim sum experience than normal. It was nice to be able to taste and try several different dishes. I also enjoyed a yummy hot tea too. The service was great and lively! We also met Miss Shirley herself and she was so nice too!! Great food and service. It really feels like you're family while you're here. So I was lucky enough to score a table at lunch. What a treat. The food was some of the best Chinese food I've had. And we tried it all! Dumplings, Rice, Shu Mai, lettuce wraps. Oh so wonderfully delicious. Service was excellent. read more
By far the BEST Chinese Food I have ever had! Miss Shirley and her staff are so warm and friendly. It felt like you were having dinner with family. The place is small, but just the right size when you go at the right time or make reservation. If you get there and it's a wait, wait. It's worth it! The food, drinks, atmosphere, service, everything is a 10 out of 10! It's a must try while in Nola. read more

I'm not even a fan of Chinese food but I am absolutely in LOVE with Miss Shirley's. You should definitely be prepared for a wait depending on what time you go but it's all worth it. The food is outstanding, fresh, and made to order. The service is amazing. We visited during Mardi Gras and our waiter was still super quick. My favorite was the Schezwan Chicken and the fried chicken gyoza. The pice level was just right. Also all the food is family style so visiting with a larger party just makes sense. read more
We came here on Christmas Day and it was very very crowded!! We had to wait a while, but that was okay--we were expecting to as that day was very busy. The restaurant is very big and they have many options, but as a vegetarian, I basically didn't have much to choose from. The two things I did get though, I didn't enjoy at all. I came with a friend who loves Chinese food and got other things as well, but didn't enjoy the food either. It's not very authentic Chinese food at all and just felt too pricy. read more

Miss Shirley changed my life. The food was well worth the 1 hour wait. When we were seated, we were greeted with welcome dumplings and cucumber salad. We placed our order and food came out as it was ready. I believe the first order hit the table within 10 minutes. Miss Shirley herself, came and checked on us multiple times. The queen runs a tight ship and everything we tasted was phenomenal. I WILL be returning. My friends and I had: Crabmeat Shumai Seasonal shrimp dumplings Beef dumplings Salt and pepper chicken wings Beef short ribs Braised pork belly (Sammie got this) Shrimp fried rice Shrimp with bok choy Tong chow chicken Everything was amazing but the beef short ribs are something I will dream about for the rest of my life. We also received complimentary beignets on the way out and even got a picture with our queen, Miss Shirley. We WILL be returning. read more
we went for a friendsgiving get together with 6 or 7 of us. the food and service were on point. I loved the pineapple fried rice, crab noodles and all of the dumplings were 10/10! the ambiance is also very cute. what you would expect for a dim sum spot on magazine st. it is kind of small and gets crowded quick though so plan ahead! read more

A very popular Chinese Food restaurant in the Garden District, we found it to be all that was described. We did have a short wait for a table, but the service is prompt and facilitates rapid turnaround, without giving a rushed feeling. We ordered from both the entree and Dim Sum selections. Everything was excellent! They do a robust business, both in store and take out. Miss Shirley is a vibrant presence and highly regarded by her guests. She makes sure to visit each table during your meal. This is an excellent choice for Chinese cuisine when in NOLA. read more

Great place to get dim sum around New Orleans. Well, it did have a hint of a modern fusion take on it. I did enjoy the presentation and the taste. I lined up 10 minutes before 5 PM on a Friday and there was a couple big parties ahead of me. After being seated and ordering the place filled up. The service was great and the food came out fast. My favorite was the short rib, the shumai. The shrimp dumpling, and the soup dumpling didn't make my expectations as they were a little bit soggy on the outside in other words, the dumpling wrapper itself was soggy. Overall good portion sizes and delicious taste. I love how there is complementary potstickers and beignets. I highly recommend and I would come back. read more
Came here with a friend for a late lunch and we tried the beef chow fun, sesame chicken, hot and sour soup, and soup dumplings. The hostess was friendly and our server was attentive and kind! The best items were the sesame chicken and hot and sour soup. I wouldn't recommend the chow fun and the Xiao long bao had a thicker skin than I'm used to. If this were in NY or CA it might be closer to 2 stars, but Ik authentic asian food isn't very common in LA so this could help satisfy a craving! read more

Finally made it out to try Miss Shirley's for dinner, and I was pleased! We ordered several dim sum dishes and a main noodle dish. The food was so fresh, and you could tell that quality ingredients are used! My only critique is that I was looking for bolder flavors. Other than that, the restaurant is super cute, it wasn't a long wait time for two on a Friday night at 8pm (30 mins), and Miss Shirley herself was present and interacting with her guests. That was super cool to experience, and I'd love to check it out again! read more
Parked on a neighborhood street that wasn't too far. Was seated right away. Friendly staff and very modern menu. Loved the beautiful fish tank upon entering. We came for the dim sum and loved how they offered non-traditional menu items. Especially since I like to try new things. I really enjoyed the bbq ribs the most. Place was cozy but just enough space to handle walk-in's like ourselves. Overall the food was good, just a tad pricey. read more

I went on a Thursday soon as they opened for dinner and there was no wait. I'm not sure if this is different on a weekend.
How is parking?
It's street parking but it's an easy area to park in. You may have to park a block away and walk.
