Yesterday was my first time there at around lunch time. I was greeted by the amazingly kind Fami (sorry if I am spelling it wrong). I love gyros and have enjoyed Mediterranean food all my adult life. Anyway, I ordered the scrumptious beef/lamb gyro combo that came with perfectly cooked fries and a side beverage (great value fyi). While my order was being made (totally fresh), Fami gave me a cup of their housemade lentil soup: OMG, SO GOOD! This place must be visited over and over again, I was that pleased. They offer service during covid 19 quarantine. The food was so good and they indicated what food was vegetarian. Very fast friendly service, have a bathroom for washing hands, and they have limited inside seating. The Falafel tasted almost like meat the Falafel Plate had a good variety of food. The tzatziki sauce and fries is AMAZING. It was hard to stop eating it... almost rated it 5 stars, but I didn't like some stuff on the plate. read more

Bananas Grill is one of my favorite local spots in South Seattle. Steps away from the Columbia City light rail stop and the 106 bus stop, Bananas is fairly easy to get to by transit. There is some street parking available in the front along MLK, but I think there might be parking available behind the location in a shared lot. Bananas is a family owned business and they go the extra mile to remember their regulars and always greet you when you come in. Sometimes they are even offering samples of some of their homemade soups while you wait for your order (try it!). My go to order is either a gyro with meat (add falafel), or the falafel and hummus plate. Gyros are large, with just the right proportions of veggies, meat, and sauce. The falafel is always crispy and not too dry and perfect for dipping into the hummus. P.S. they also make this homemade spiced Somalian tea that is absolutely delicious. Total rip-off. $16 the gyro entree and all I got was a few little tiny pieces of meat and HALF a pita. 3 little pieces of ice berg lettuce and barely enough hummus to fill a little cup. Definitely skip past this place. read more

I love this place. I would have never found it if they didn't deliver to my house but once I'd tasted their unique flavor combinations I kept going back. Honestly, during the lock down I probably went once a week just to keep my sanity, and now they know me and when they see me are very friendly. The restaurant is run by a Somali family and they use unique spices in their Mediterranean food so it tastes different than other restaurants that have the same thing. I am such a big fan of their lentil soup that I oftentimes buy extra so I can have it at home. My dad loves their lamb-beef gyro. I'm all about their chicken shawarma. Banana's Grill is a nice family owned Halal restaurant. The owner and his sons were all very friendly. The place was very crowded because of a holiday and there were a lot of People dressed up. We were the only non-Somalis but everyone was very welcoming! We ordered at the counter. The owner was helpful with explaining some of the differences between the menu items. We decided to try the chicken shawarma and the falafel wraps. I also decided to try the tea. We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant by one of the sons of the owner. He showed us to the table and even wiped it down again before we sat down. They quickly brought my tea and it was already sweetened and had milk in it. The tea had a nice taste of Cardamon to it. It was a lot like a type of Chai. The falafel sandwich was good. It was warm and there were three falafels in the sandwich. The sauce was also good. The chicken shawarma was juicy and fresh. As I have said in previous reviews the good thing about Shawarmas are that there is always a different way to season them. I have never had a Somali seasoned Shawarma before... It was good! They usually serve free lentil soup with your meal but they ran out because of the holiday and how busy they were. We came in and we got the last table during the lunch rush and as we left the place was emptying out. We did not have to wait long for our food but one of the sons made sure we were okay with the wait, which wasn't long at all! Great place, clean, great service and very friendly staff. We were looking for a place to go for Sunday dinner. We found Bananas Grill on the restaurants.com gift certificate site. We ordered a gift certificate and headed down to South Rainier to eat. Parking is street parking and hard to find. I don't know where you would go if you couldn't find a spot. There were a few people about in the restaurant, getting to-go orders. While we ordered at the counter, another customer chatted with my husband about Bananas and other nearby restaurants we might want to check out. The cashier was conscientious while taking our order and double checking everything. The service was really friendly. Because of the minimum order on the gift certificate, we went all out. We ordered a side of falafel with pita and hummus, a cheeseburger & fries (plain), a gyro burger & fries, a falafel plate (vegetarian), and a gyro plate. We also had a chai tea and a smoothie. Our meal apparently came with lentil soup. The lentil soup is amazingly delicious. I'm now sold on lentil soup and now need to learn how to make it. The chai tea is fabulous. The burgers were both very good. The falafel was okay as was the hummus. We make better falafel and hummus at home. I noticed the cashier told the kitchen multiple times about the plain cheeseburger. It still came to the table with mayo. When he came back with the rest of the meals, we informed him of the mistake. He took it right back, had a new one made up and brought that right out. And to make up for the mistake, he gave us two baklava. How lovely! We were very pleased with our visit. We tried more things than we might have on a regular visit. But you can certainly get a tasty filling meal (none of us managed to finish our items because we were so full) for a really great price, even without the gift certificate. I love this place. I have been coming here for years and am so glad they have been able to remain open during these uncertain times. Everything on the menu is good but I almost always order the platter because you get the best bang for your buck. It comes with chicken shawarma, gyro meat, chicken skewers, rice, salad, falafel, hummus, pita, dolmas...just everything you would want to try including different sauces. The meat is halal. And it is so much food, I end up splitting it into four meals easily. The people who work here are very nice. The location is decent, right near the Light Rail and some parking up front. This is definitely a place I will keep coming to and am happy to support. read more

We tried this place last night for the first time as part of the 2-week Plates of Nations promotion. What a find! Order at the counter so it's fast (and convenient with a toddler in tow) and the food is fabulous! Fresh and well seasoned. We tried samboosa appetizers, lentil soup and a combo platter and loved it all, though the lemon pepper fish and lamb gyro meat were particular stand-outs. The mango smoothie was a tad sweet for my taste (but drinkable) and the soda glasses are enormous. The food, speed and nearby playground also made it a huge hit for my 2 year old son. This place is amazing! If you like Mediterranean/Gyro cuisine, then this is a must do! The rice is fragrant and flavorful, tender but not mushy. The gyro meat is perfectly cooked, not burnt. Great tzatziki and hummus. Incredibly fresh tomatoes and cucumbers with a lightly sweet Italian style dressing. And the lentil soup, so flavorful. The dining area is pretty plain, but you won't care while you're eating great food from a super friendly staff. I will be back many times more. read more

What a gem! The hubs and I ordered the combination plate ($15.99) to share and it was a great sample of their food and more than enough for both of us. The rice has great flavor different than the meat. The gyro and both chickens (kebab and shawarma) all were distinct, fresh, not dry and the dolma (served warm - way better!) were the best I have had. I usually find them gelatinous and bland but not tonight. We ate in and it's very casual and we can't wait to try delivery! Finished this review off while enjoying the house made baklava. I came in late at night and I was the only one there-- I felt a little bad because I was hoping it wasn't TOO late for me to be there, but I was reassured I had an hour before closing. I think since it was a cold night out and I was by myself, the lady working there had offered me a cup of lentil soup while I waited for my order! 8u8 I havnt been to a place here in Seattle yet that has been so kind, generous with their food and so affordable! Love the food, hate the service. The food is so delicious, flavorful, fresh, seasoned well. But the service is quite horrible. They will take your "to-go" order, tell you 10-15 minutes, and not start it until you get there. I had to wait an hour. It's just not a one time flaw or mistake; that has been my experience every single time with them over the last two years. I just had to decide to stop giving them my business. I don't feel valued as a customer. It makes me feel sad to say this, because I really do feel the staff are genuinely kind-hearted. The kiddo also likes the strawberry banana smoothies, and I love that the SUPER FRIENDLY staff brings you scrumptious lentil soup when you eat in. They deliver via Eat 24 and Grubhub, and have 6 things on the kids menu all under $5. This spot is so fire! I started ordering from Uber Eats a lot since Covid started and I'm so glad I came across this place. Chicken shawarma platter is enough for dinner and lunch the next day, and it's all delicious. Hummus is insanely good. Falafel are tasty and fresh. Pita is always heated up, which matters. Loved the veg combo they had for Plate of Nations - warm pita, delicious dolmas, really flavorful hummus, great falafels, and the sambusas were crisp and tasty - with great spice, and a nice little salad too - and amazing rice. Their Gyro burger is really tasty. I love how the put the gyro over the patty. Complimentary lentil soup with the burger and fries. It makes the wait more manageable. Their service is amazing though. It think most of their employees are family, who all seem to enjoy making that place welcoming. I wouldn't mind watching the Seahawks games there from now on. read more
