Not sure how much I liked the pulled chicken sandwich... The fried green beans and the service are what get the stars!

We came in for the first time as my cousin was back from Florida & sick of all of the unhealthy eating out & bar food & really craving some great bbq! Well Bandanas did not disappoint one bit!! We also had a very picky child with us! The menu was very extensive & had a wide variety to offer- & many sides to choose from that come with the meals, one got the fries, kiddo got apple sauce & & I got garlic bread & a perfect backed potato with sour cream, & one got the baked beans- all were great! Our lil boy got the 1/3 slab ribs and they were done perfectly & the meat just came right off the bone, my cousin got the turkey & loved it, husband got the ribs & I got the pulled pork & beef sandwich & it all comes dry rubbed & they have 7 sauces on the table for you to select from to put on your food! The atmosphere was awesome but not over the top, very clean & our waitress was from Memphis & new her BBQ & SWEET AS THE TEA!!! WE will for sure be going back!! read more

My wife and I went there last week, as it was their first week open. It was packed so had a little wait. The staff was SO great. Best servers around, top notch. Our server knew the menu top to bottom and was very busy but didn't show it. Super friendly. Food was excellent. Had the ribs and they were the best I have had in a long time. Had to try it. Had the ribs and turkey meal with beans and corn. All good. Ribs were fresh and nicely done. You get 3-4 ribs with the double meal. Assume more with the triple. Wife had pulled pork. All good and fresh. A bit of a chain feel. Very good service. A tad bit spendy, but decent. 15.99 for the double platter. Would return, but I like Q Dogs better. Nothing compares in this area to Q Dogs. read more

I've been here twice and both times the service was excellent as well as the food. The ribs have a sweet dry-rub that goes well with their mustard-base original sauce. Favorite side so far has been the sweet potato fries. read more

Coming from Texas, I must say that I was pretty impressed by this place. My husband and I ordered the Bar-B-Q variety platter for two, which came with a generous portion of ribs, chicken, beef, pork, choice of 2 sides and garlic toast. This meal was HUGE! Everything was tasty, especially the ribs. The only thing that disappointed us was the beef. We thought it lacked flavor. I guess we were expecting the moist smoky brisket that you get in Texas. I liked the variety of BBQ sauces on the table as well. The service was excellent! We will definitely be back. read more

BBQ in Iowa is usually a disappointment and while Bandana's wasn't exactly a disappointment, I've certainly had better. I ordered the smoked chicken platter with beans and cole slaw as sides. The chicken itself was actually quite good. And while the Cole Slaw was good, the BBQ beans were not. They were very bland and looked like what comes out of a can. Not saying they weren't cooked from scratch, just saying they were dull. The other disappointment was the default bread was garlic bread, not traditional cornbread. Garlic bread? I expect that in an Italian restaurant, not BBQ. Finally, and this was the biggest disappointment, was the sauce. I ordered carry out and were promised a variety of their St. Louis, Chicago and KC style sauces. What I got was a few small packets - like you might in a fast food restaurant. The sauce listed corn syrup as an ingredient, which no self-respecting BBQ sauce should contain. As you would expect, none of the sauces, no matter which style I tried, had the zest or distinctiveness any decent BBQ shack down south would serve. I suppose I should go easy on northern BBQ because no one uses an open-pit, but being raised in Kansas City, I'm used to the best and I judge accordingly. read more

Bandana in the Ozarks is out of this world , BUT ...Bandanas in Cedar Rapids ,Iowa ... is awful , what was suppose to be warm was cold and what was to be cold , was warm ,,, I gave the place 3 chances and that's more than the normal and each time it was the same or worse , I don't recommend Bandana's locally , but they're doing something right in the Ozark's!! Decided to try the barbecue place that recently opened on first ave and was pleasantly suprised. I was there for early dinner about 4pm and there seemed to be plenty of staff so I had no wait for a table and had a beverage in hand within 3 mins. Got the three meat platter (5oz portions. The two meat features 6 oz portions) with pork, Turkey, and sausage with beans and fries. The best part of the platter was the pork. The pork had a nice rind and was more flavorful than The other meats. The Turkey and sausage were kind of meh. Both were very tender, but not very smoky flavored. There are several sauces at each table and they do enhance the flavor of the meat nicely. After trying them all I found the spicy version was best. The beans were very good. They have a thick texture almost like refried beans with lots of meat bits incoporated in the sauce. I did not need any barbecue sauce for the beans. The platter was 18, so pretty reasonable and a good value for what you get in my opinion. I was pleasantly full when I left. I will stop by again, but will probably stick with the ribs and pulled pork next time. read more

This is a great place, I am glad they moved from Coralville to Cedar Rapids. Great ribs and sides especially the fried okra.

I've gone here a few times, because it's far from where I live. It was fantastic. My family and I go there when they visit, and it's always been excellent. The waiters that we've had have been energetic and fun. I highly recommend visiting. read more

I was not impressed. The meat was cold. The Brisket was cut up like dog food and had no flavor. I will say the sides are what got the stars here they are way better then the meat. The coleslaw was amazing and the beans were great. Staff spends more time talking to each other then the customers. What pushed me over the edge was a cook picking his nose then preparing food. The atmosphere and staff were nice and friendly. I was a little disappointed to not find brisket on the menu. Instead they offer "beef". Just being called "beef" with no further description is a little sketchy to me. I decided to order out of curiosity and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Strange. I don't know, but it doesn't seem like anything made in house. Seems like it comes out of a bag-or maybe a boil-in-bag product of sort??? The fries were good but again I was disappointed with the garlic bread, which again wasn't bad, but not good either. I was looking forward to some cornbread (it just belongs with bbq). The coleslaw was really good. I tried some ribs as well which didn't impress me either. I will probably go back again sometime. It won't be a top priority. I'm curious about the meats I haven't tried yet. Something may be delicious here that I have yet to stumble across. read more

For starters, the service was prompt and friendly, although our waiter was a little goofy. The meat, applesauce and french fries were all pretty average and unflavorful. The real problem was with the sauce, none of them were very good, and half were unedible at best. There are much better barbeque places out there, even in Cedar Rapids. read more
