We have been a handful of times, the food has been good. The times we have been before we find they tend to be out of items, frequently. Despite that, we called ahead to see if they had what we wanted, chicken wings. I do suggest calling ahead to save frustration and disappointment. The wings were out of this world. They have a nice variety of sauces to dip your wings in. The mac n Cheese was okay. I am a snob I admit, but it was missing something. The potato salad was okay, again missing something. The prices are fair. There is not a ton of seating. Parking is always different in that part of town, plan a was you might walk a little. The staff are nice and helpful. By the way, they do have out of this world cornbread with a blueberry jam. Crazy good. Will go back for sure.

Brisket was amazing, and they asked if I wanted a bun! My cheesy potatoes were a tad too garlicky.

The food was great and it was quick to be served! My husband said it was the best ribs he's had. They have several different BBQ sauces at your disposal to try. We went not realizing it was the Halloween Parade right outside shortly after we arrived, so we also sat by the window and got to watch.

    Best potato salad ever!

Best BBQ hands down! The potato salad may be my absolutely favorite ever plus baked beans smokey & tender. I had the brisket and pulled pork...love love love! Also generous portions for the price!

I love this place. My absolute favorite BBQ in CR. They are just nice people, and the last time we went there I had missed the special the day before that I really wanted to try. I asked about it, and they still made it for me! Can't go wrong with their pulled pork. Mac and Cheese was the best I've had in a restaurant, and their corn bread is like dessert.

    Cheesy potatoes, brisket and cornbread.

Had the brisket, cheesy potatoes and cornbread. Brisket had a good smokiness to it and was tender. Cheesy potatoes were classic hash brown style with a cheese and bread crumbs on top. Cornbread is essentially a loaf. Enough for two to eat. Ended up with leftovers. In my opinion, the top BBQ in Cedar Rapids.

    Delicious sauce selection

Hands down the best BBQ I've had in a long time and I frequently seek out BBQ. We had the 1/2 lb dog, pulled pork, Mac 'n Cheese, cheesy potatoes, corn bread, and ALL the sauces. Everything was superb. We will definitely be back!

My son spotted the pork tenderloin sandwich, and that clinched the deal for us. Since moving away from Iowa, this is something that is sorely missed. It was a pretty quiet weekday lunch hour when we stopped by. There was only one other customer in front of us, and the friendly gentleman behind the counter took our order and told us that it would be about 8 minutes for our order to be ready. In addition to the tenderloin, we ordered the brisket sammich and some onion rings. We were going to eat well that day. Unfortunately, things seemed to get away from him just a little bit. The people before us had also ordered two tenderloins, but for reasons unclear he only prepared their order instead of breading and frying all three of ours at once. Then some guy from DoorDash or GrubHub showed up to pick up an order, and then he had to stop everything and focus on that pickup. When he returned to the people waiting, the couple in front of us was starting to get a little impatient. He finally took care of them, and turned his attention to ours. Our tenderloin was breaded and put into the fryer. He gave it us, but we had to remind him that we had also ordered the brisket and onion rings, the latter of which he had not put into the fryer. Several minutes later our order was ready, but at this point it was over 20 minutes later. Having said all that, the food was quite good. The brisket was served in thick cuts and was tender and juicy. The tenderloin was also very good, with a nice crispy texture that didn't get soggy. It was served in a basket, and I felt that it would have been better on a plate because the tenderloin is so large that it's hard to get your hands around it when it fills up the entire basket. The onion rings were disappointing, though. I was expecting much more hearty, thick rings, but they were small and somewhat uninspired. Overall, this was a fine meal with just some logistical snags that certainly can be improved upon.

The pulled pork was good tasting and was served on a quality bun, however it seemed soggy from sitting in the steam table. Don't get me wrong it was still delicious. The cornbread is amazing.

The sandwich portions are generous and come with a small side portion and sliced pickles. The pulled pork comes without sauce and when we went, they only had spicy and blackberry sauce. As far as flavor, we agreed the pork was kinda dry but okay. I had the blackberry sauce, which I found runny and not so flavorful. My boyfriend had the spicy and said it was good, but the kick lingered in his mouth. My coleslaw was weak too. Overall, the location is perfect for this kind of meal. It's a reasonable price for what you get - sandwich, side, and drink. Probably great for local lunches, but we wouldn't go out of our way.

The meat has a great smokey flavor and is very tender. The baked beans have quickly become a favorite and the coleslaw is a close second. They offer huge sandwiches which include 6 oz. meat, one side and a drink for $7.50 or larger platters for around $11. They never keep me waiting long and they have many BBQ sauces to choose from including some interesting ones such as cherry habanero and blackberry. They are usually located around the corner of 7th Ave. and 44th St. in Marion behind Arnold's motor supply. So if you find yourself in the area around lunchtime it's definitely worth the stop!

Anyway, once I made it there and saw the big smokers out front with the wood stacked alongside I was encouraged... once I made it inside the smells had me convinced me I had made a good decision. Large menu board above where your order is taken is self explanatory and very clear. Service was friendly and outstanding as one progresses through the ordering and payment stages and they "assembled" my Pulled Pork Burger before my eyes. A good sized burger in it's right then topped with some succulent Pulled Pork, pickles, and two sauces (the Harmony and Havana Moon I believe). I wasn't sure about the sauce combo until the first bite...amazing! The combination of sweet and zesty is deeeeelicious. I also ordered up the Brisket Eggrolls which were amazing in their own right...I sampled all four of the CR Midnight BBQ sauces by dipping the eggroll into each one alternately. Along with the Harmony (which is, dare I say) a more traditional style sweet sauce and the Havana Moon (a Cuban inspired Mustard sauce (my favorite paired up with the Pulled Pork) are a duo of sauces that surprised me at how much I liked them.....a Blueberry and a Peach version..outstanding sauces!! I left ordering a 3 Meat Combo to go so I can enjoy a meal tonight with the Mrs as she was unable to make the trip with me today as I was in town on business. I'll add to my review later...I'm sure more positive words and pictures will be upcoming! The "at home" pics aren't quite as good...the food however was just as delicious! The 3 Meat combo (plus 3 ribs) consisted of Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, and Brisket as well as the aforementioned ribs. The meats were all top notch smokey and flavorful...the Brisket is some of the best I've had in quite awhile. The sides I've tried were the Mac & Cheese and the Baked Beans. Mac&Cheese was very well executed and the Baked Beans side was good but just a bit on the spicy side for us. I highly recommend making a trip to CR Midnight Smoker BBQ, negotiate the road construction and enjoy some amazing food, friendly folks and a casual atmosphere!

Well, I guess my 500th Yelp review is as good a time as any. I don't eat potato salad, but I have to start with the potato salad because my wife loves Willie Ray's potato salad so much that I actually order it as my side just to give to her. So, I guess it's pretty good. I'm pretty sure I've had every entree at Willie Ray's. I think their best entree might actually be their barbecue chicken, but I also love their ribs. A lot of places make ribs that I think are too fatty. My guess is the ribs are the same before they go in the smoker, and the ones I consider too fatty just haven't fully rendered. Regardless, the ribs at Willie Ray's never seem too fatty, or too greasy. They're always cooked just right, and have a great flavor. The entree I get the most is probably the pulled pork. It's also very good. It's not as good as the ribs, but I usually go to Willie Ray's for lunch, and something about ribs just makes me sleepy. Their brisket is awesome, too. They seem to run out of that pretty quickly, though. If you ever go there and they have a side called chicken ro-mac, definitely try it. They don't seem to have it often. So, you don't want to pass up an opportunity to try it. Based on the name, and the flavor, I'm assuming it has Rotel tomatoes in it. Other than that, it's mac and cheese with pulled chicken. I highly recommend it. Anyway, I've never had a bad meal there, and I've had a lot of meals there.

First impressions were a bit confusing--the entrance makes you feel like you're walking into an office building. There's a door to the right with signage for what seems to be a sister bar that's only open on limited nights, but the actual restaurant is straight back. Once inside, the space is large and open, with plenty of room between tables and a sizable bar area. I sat at the bar and learned about their Whiskey Wednesday specials, which included several types of Old Fashioneds and whiskey flights. While it sounded intriguing, I opted not to partake. They also offer daily drink special themes. The menu is eclectic, with a mix of Cajun, Italian, and American fare. I went with the Cacio e Pepe with Elephant Ear (Orcchiette) pasta, and added shrimp along with a half wedge salad as a premium side. The pasta itself was delicious--perfectly cooked with a rich, peppery flavor. However, I wish the server had mentioned that the shrimp was Cajun-seasoned. While great on its own, it slightly overpowered the pasta. The wedge salad was a bit of a letdown--the lettuce was watery, which diluted the overall flavor. The dish also came with garlic bread, which was yummy. Service was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and efficient. Unfortunately, it was hard to get a real read on the restaurant's vibe because it was pretty empty on a Wednesday night.
