They have more ingredients than the others and they also have 4 different tortilla options. I also like the small burrito option for people who can't finish the bigger one (like my wife). Finally able to try this place out after seeing so many commercials about it and hearing positive things about it! It is a little different from other burrito places, main difference is the multiple customization options! Choose your tortilla flavors and after that it is just constant stream of options to put on your burrito. There are many choices that cost extra, they will let you know.I also got chips and queso to finish because the burrito was not very filling. Overall, the burrito was okay, but not on par with Chipotle, Pancheros, or even Qdoba! The flavor was slightly off the desired taste and it was not as filling as the competitions places. The chips and queso were okay, no where near my favorite from Pancheros. The staff was pretty friendly and the place was clean. read more

The burritos are made in the same way Chipotle or Panchero's does, meaning you walk down a line and pick out your tortilla, your type of rice, beans, juicy meats, cheeses, veggies, salsas, sour cream, etc. It is all fresh and delicious. Thank you YELP! I was in town and looking for local places to eat. Des Moines had a ton of chain restaurants to choose from, but I was seeking the local flavor. The YELP reviews brought me here and they were dead on. The food was so good. I like that you can choose your toppings and they had more choices than QDoba or Chipolte. Even the burrito selection was rather big. They had about 4-5 flavors of tortillas to choose from. My younger kids got the kids size quesadilla meal; bonus: they can keep getting quesadillas until they get full. Not a one quesadilla meal. One of my sons took advantage and got two. Drinks were included with all meals. This place was significantly cheaper than Chipotle/Qdoba as well. I would go back here again. read more

My family and I have been here for breakfast many times and we have never been disappointed! Their breakfast burritos are a good size and are delicious! So flavorful! My favorite part is that you can customize your burrito. They have the ingredients laid out (kinda like Subway) where you can pick and choose from ham/chorizo/sausage/etc. to various cheeses to various flavored sour creams or salsas. They have a good array of options! I highly recommend for breakfast! Plus, the staff was friendly, quick, and attentive. We have yet to try their lunch or dinner menu but if their breakfast is that good, I would venture to say their lunches and dinners are also good. Five stars for breakfast! read more

Shucks...it's been a little while since I've been to Bandit Burrito but we shall test my memory... I went here for lunch one day because I'd heard it's got some unique veggie options and it was near my place of work (go J-Town). From what I recall they have a soy-rizo option (which Fighting and Chipotle) also have. The soy-rizo was fine but I enjoyed their unique sauces and fillings - much like Fighting. I still think I like Fighting Burrito more but I would definitely go back to Bandit - especially considering its proximity to work. Give it a try! read more

Super solid option right off I-80/35 to the north. Quality ingredients assembled in an interesting manner and featuring fun twists on salsas using trad Iowa items like canned peaches/corn. Could use a bit more info on ingredients pre-order, staff did a great job narrating the steps in lieu of more info. Perhaps resize the middle menu of sides to feature what core items are available? Was excited for a new "Chipotle" style place and when I found Bandit Burrito on yelp I had to try it. The place was clean, the menu is overwhelming, and the service was OK. I didn't really know what to get as there are so many options but not all of the options are on the menu above your head. I had to ask if they had chicken because I didn't see it on the menu. I ordered a burrito bowl to go, with a bit of brown rice, black beans, chicken, lettuce, garlic and lime sour cream, mild salsa. I am used to Chipotle's generous portions but I did not receive that here. I had maybe one and a half cups of food on my bowl and the flavor wasn't all that impressive either. A lot of yelpers suggest the breakfast burrito which if I decide to go again, I'll have to order. read more

My wife and I have been coming to Bandit Burrito since July 2008. Every Saturday I stop in to get our supper for that night. My wife likes the Chicken Mole and I the Colorado Pork. As some have reviewed already, the ingredients are fresh and made daily. You start off selecting the wrap and like an assembly line you get the rice, beans, veggies and meat. Finally the other toppings are applied it is rolled and ready to eat. I had bariatric surgery in June of '08 and this has always been a nice meal for me. Eat half Saturday, the other half Sunday for lunch. These are fantastic. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We are on first name basis. I heard they have a nickname for me, "Double Dan" because we always get double meat. We highly recommend Bandit Burrito. read more

Not a fan. We placed a pick up order and my husband arrived to get it and got yelled at when he showed up to get my soyrizo burrito for not ordering it ahead of time... Which we did. I usually don't have issues with places but he said they didn't seem apologetic after they realized they made a mistake. This was maybe a year and a half ago. Never returned. My expectations were pretty high based on the reviews. We went in on a Friday night around 8:30p. They seemed to be running out of most items, and were pretty stingy with the portions. The items for the burrito were pretty unique and interesting, but I felt a little confused. I had to ask what everything was, as I didn't see anything explaining the options that were available. The employee was pretty helpful, but I wish he'd explained their offerings better to a group of first time guests. The biggest ding other than the stingy portions was the cleanliness of the place. Other than a couple of to-go orders, we had the place to ourselves. We couldn't find a clean table, and had to clean one ourselves. There were two employees, and one was eating a burrito at a table, and the other chilled behind the counter. It was a little gross being in an dirty empty restaurant. We were in WDM, did a quick Yelp search for an affordable place to eat in the area, and happily were led here. Amongst the best burritos I have ever had! It's much like Subway in that you walk your burrito, from start to finish, along as the server piles on the fillings you choose. I went with a cheese/jalapeño tortilla with beef for my meat choice, while my teenage son had chicken in his wheat tortilla. By the time we got through the line, both of our burritos were massive. They were juicy, and filled to the brim with flavor. This place knows what it is, and it does it job well. Cheap, good-tasting food guarantees I will be back again. read more

Walking in the place looks fairly nice and clean but does nothing to distinguish itself. The decor is almost exactly like a Fighting Burrito or similar place; so are the prices. At first bite their burritos seemed pretty good but my friend and I soon discovered that that wasn't entirely true. The rice was incredibly hard. Maybe it wasn't cooked properly. Maybe it was incredibly dry. What I do know is that it was borderline inedible and my friend stopped eating because of it. There is no excuse for that lack of quality. I'm sure that had we visited some other day then maybe we would've been spared a bad experience, however, first impressions are lasting impressions. read more

On a road trip from Colorado back to Michigan, we were looking for an easy-to-access place with vegetarian options. Thanks to smart phones we were able to stumble across Bandit Burrito, and planned to stop in as we neared Des Moines. Walking in, it is pretty similar to most of the "other" burrito places, but I loved the fact that it was a little more streamlined, and that all the burrito options (aside from sour cream, queso and guacamole) were the same price. I ordered a vegetarian chorizo burrito in a spinach tortilla with white rice, black beans, diced jalapenos, a little cheese and a couple different salsas. It was DELICIOUS. I can't really speak to the taste of the various elements because I was apparently hungrier than I realized and destroyed that bad boy in like 3 minutes. However, the taste it left in my mouth through the duration of those three minutes was fantastic! My wife also ordered a side of chips and guacamole. The guacamole was great, with nice chunks of avocado throughout, but the chips were a tad on the overcooked side. The only negative that I have, and the only deterrent from a 5-star rating, was one of the employees was a smidge rude. My wife asked for a burrito with tofu, and the lady taking our order seemed annoyed, that she ordered one of the vegetarian options (and ended up giving her chorizo instead). Granted, there is a sign that says "Please Order Ahead" if you are choosing a vegetarian option, but we didn't have the foresight, since we were just passing through. However, she enjoyed her burrito as well, even though it was big enough she had to take a third of it back on the road with us. In the off chance I'm ever in the area again, I will certainly stop by. However, you should probably call ahead if you plan on ordering the tofu or veggie chorizo, especially if you are going to stop in at a busy time. read more

Followed the reviews of my fellow Yelpers!! This place looks unremarkable from the outside if you're driving by, but the food and service are awesome!! It takes on the chipotle model of assembly line and choosing what you want in your order. There are SO many options for tortillas, meat, and toppings. The food tasted great and the staff was willing to let me try any salsas or meats before ordering. If you order 4 entrees, you receive 4 free sodas/beverage cups. This was my first ever experience at Bandit Burrito. When I entered the staff behind the counter was very friendly greeting us. I had explained I'd never been there the two gentlemen went through all the options I had I had the tomato basil tortilla which is delicious. Wild rice, black beans, pepper and onion mix, beef (very moist and fantastic), the smoked sour cream (this is a must try!!), guacamole, cheddar cheese, and pico de gallo for a burrito. The food was great and for $24 we got 2 burritos (both beef with sour cream and guacamole = extra charge but nothing bad) and two drinks. I would definitely recommend this place!!! I'm always disappointed when I eat here. The burrito bowl I got tonight was so bad that I'll never go back. I got the chicken and it was so salty it's inedible. Speaking of meat, no steak option. Only "shredded beef" and what I can now assume is boiled chicken. Salsa options are weak as well. Guacamole has no flavor. The hot sauce options suck too. Five tortilla options, different flavors of sour cream, crushed tortilla chips to put in your burrito, and delicious guacamole that's free if you don't get meat. I like being given the option of a "slim" burrito. Get a smaller sized burrito for five bucks. Trust me, it's still enough food. I stopped by Burrito Bandit on a quest for a breakfast burrito one morning. Super disappointed. The meat looked like it came out of a food processing plant, not from a cow, and tasted like salt rubber, not salty rubber, just rubber coated in a layer of salt. The rest of the burrito tasted sort of okay because it was just cheese and tortilla, which is pretty hard to screw up. I recommend taking your breakfast burrito quests elsewhere. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in the Johnston area. It may not look like much from the outside (or inside for that matter) in it's strip mall type setting, but the food is outstanding. Give it a try! It's also great to stop by and order dinner for the family to take home. My only food related complaint is the beverages. You make real food and then instant ice tea? I'm no snob---give me some brewed Lipton----but this stuff is awful. The pop dispensers are not much better. While they do have a nice selection of bottle water and other "to go" beverages, they are overpriced compared to the cost of meals. I would actually eat here more often if the beverages were improved. Occasionally there is a problem with dirty tables and/or seats. The staff just doesn't keep up with cleaning them off. read more

This is my favorite burrito shop in the Des Moines metro area, and I've tried them all at least once. I'll drive out to Johnston any time just for Bandit. Their peach salsa is my absolute favorite, and no other burrito place can compare. I also love their spinach tortillas. Their quesadillas are pretty amazing too, though I generally can't resist ordering a burrito. The only issue is the staff turnover, which is common in fast food. Sometimes the newer employees don't know how to fill a burrito properly. There was a time a couple years ago where there was too much tortilla and not enough filling. Usually, when eating at a burrito joint, "vegetarian" means "without meat." Here, there's actually a selection of vegetarian options for burritos. The vegan chorizo was a great surprise. It was flavorful, had a little grease and just enough seasoning that made it nearly identical to it's pork cousin. The service was quick and helpful. The chips, however were disappointing.
