These guys are serving up street style tacos. Street style tacos are known to be fairly small. LA taco trucks charge $1 for them. DMV taco trucks charge $2.50 for them. Guess how much Bandit charges? $4. Yup, 4 whole bucks for these humble sized tacos. What put me off even more was the fact I ordered several different types of tacos, but they all somehow tasted the same. Oh, I almost forgot about their elote street corn. I expected the standard Mexican crema, cheese, and lime on it, but instead I got ketchup! On my corn! That's a huge L from me fam (Someone sent me a rude compliment on Yelp stating ketchup on corn is El Salvadorean style, but my opinion remains the same. Good food at a reasonable price in a nice atmosphere with pretty quick service during the day and on some weeknights. However, on weekend nights they stop serving the community as a walk-in quick service restaurant and basically just become an assembly line for delivery orders -- it becomes pointless to even try to stop by for food then, as the wait times are absurd, the staff is cranky and overwhelmed, and the waiting area is packed with frustrated drivers. Hopefully they can figure out a system to meet their delivery demands while still functioning as a walk-in community establishment. read more

THE BLACK AND WHITE: I've been here four times now and gotten the same thing: the Wild Mushrooms Burrito. Note: I'm not a vegetarian but I LOVE mushrooms. They flavor the mushrooms really well and I'm a sucker for avocado. The first time I came here, the burrito was on the smaller end...but since I lived so close and every time I had a burrito craving, I would always end up here. Since then, they've stepped up their game and really pack in the stuffings. The tacos are kinda expensive ~$3.50 per taco and I hear they're on the smaller end. This place has been open for 2 weeks, and I am just hearing about it. OMG! Stopped in to see what they had to offer and I got a carnitas taco, and it was so delicious. The perfect blend of spices and the toppings. The customer service is on point. The guy at the counter was very pleasant and friendly. Told him it was my first visit in and he was very helpful. Taco, bowls and burritos are made to order. My taco took about 2 minutes. It was fresh and delicious. I am already plotting on my next trip. Blown away with their cute little delicious tortillas. Makes me happy when I see and taste authentic flavor from Mexico. I am from the north and I am pretty picky with my tacos (even though I eat them all). I've had the shrimp tacos, carnitas, elote, and their agua de horchata and jamaica. Friends and I ordered two chicken burritos, one veggie burrito, and one tofu taco, and when the food arrived, the veggie burrito was mislabeled "tofu" the CHICKEN burrito was mislabeled "veggie" (this was for a vegetarian!), the tacos were unlabeled and disassembled, and the other burrito was missing. Order mix-ups happen, but when we called we were transferred to 4 different people for over 15 minutes, and told that our Door Dash driver must have stolen the food (from a sealed bag) because they couldn't have messed up the order. My husband has been on a tour of taco places in the DMV. We visited this one and found that it's near the low end of the rankings. It had potential: the patio is cute -- in a quiet spot near U street -- and the tacos have a terrific combination of toppings and sauces. The main problem was that nothing was hot, not even the meat. And we were dine-in customers; we ate our food as soon as it was ready. Korean beef at room temperature isn't nearly as appealing as it would be if it were hot. What can I say, I love shrimp tacos and quite frankly, since moving to DC from AZ I have been not impressed with the Tacos in the area. When I first tried these tacos it was reminiscent of the fried tacos I would eat in AZ. Of course everyone has their twist on tacos, but I can happily say I like the way Bandit does their shrimp tacos. Today my husband and I visited Bandit. We are frequent visitors of U Street and usually park close to Bandit Taco when we are in the area. We ordered through Doordash Pick-Up on a Friday night and our food was ready on time. They fulfilled all of our side requests and even gave us extra salsa. Between my husband and I, we tried the baja fish, crispy shrimp, chicken tinga, chicken adobo and steak tacos - all on flour tortilla (personal preference). We also got a side of chips and guac and sweet plantains with came with a side of sour cream. The crispy shrimp was excellent so was the chicken adobo. I didn't try the chicken tinga as I'm not a huge fan of white meat but my husband said it was good. The baja fish was OK - too fishy for my liking but husband enjoyed it. We both agreed that 3 taco's per person is more than enough, the tacos are small but hefty toppings so they can fill you up pretty quickly. I didn't want to drink on an empty stomach so I asked if I can have food delivered and they told me yes. I ordered three shrimp tacos, one mushroom taco, and chips and guacamole. I'm not a fan of soft tacos bcz I like crunch but oh my gosh I've fully change my mind. The pickled cabbage they had in there substituted for the crunch I needed. They have taco Tuesday!!!! ($2 tacos on select tacos) Although I didn't go on a Tuesday, it still was delicious and fresh! First they have horchata!!! Yum and good inside and outside seating. I would recommend the crispy shrimp taco and/or the Korean beef taco (tastes exactly like bulgogi). The tacos aren't too big however don't be deceived by their size because two filled me up quickly. I ate here twice and ordered from uber eats. Every time I had tacos that I enjoyed. It's not straight from Mexico quality but it's really good for the DC area. yum yum yum !!! Literally. I get the steak burrito with everything on it make sure you get a side of the hot salsa (be careful though it is hot). It's a good ratio of meat in the burrito you know sometimes you can't find it . You will not have that problem here. Super fast when i ordered it. I think the best thing about Bandit Tacos is that it's super close to my building. The food is...fine. I would say Top 5 fast tacos in NW DC but not top 4. The quesadillas and most of the burrito bowls are good, the nachos are not worth it. They do have a pretty deep menu, which I appreciate, but during COVID time it doesn't seem like they've figured out an especially efficient way to condcut curbside pick-ups. I usually add at least 5, sometimes 10 min to the "food ready" ETA. Will I continue to go though? I mean, yeah, what am I going to add another 15 min round trip for better tacos? read more

As a Californian, I like to think I know Tacos. Bandit Taco has some of the best tacos on the east coast and is comparable to any of the tacos you can get out west. At this point, I have tried most if not all of the taco options and have thought they were delicious. Bandit is definitely worth the visit! read more

Note: For Tenley location. This is a great little place. Cannot vouch for the sit-down experience there, but carried out some tacos that were all spectacularly fresh and tasty. It is a tiny place, be forewarned. I tried the skirt, al pastor and Korean beef tacos. All were topped with just out of the world fresh condiments. The house sauces (hot and verde) are great and you can really taste the freshness. I want to come back to try the chips and salsa and maybe their burritos (nachos were on the menu too - sign me up). I frequent many taco spots in the area, but just recently got around to trying Bandit Taco. Seems to be a popular spot, but nothing really stood out to me much. I ordered 7 different tacos, chips and guacamole, sweet plantains, and horchata. Tacos were decent, but the meats could've been seasoned better. The horchata was different than any other horchata I've ever had. It wasn't bad, but basically tasted like plain milk with sugar. The sweet plantains were probably my favorite! The honey glaze they're covered in was really yummy! They have outdoor seating but it was a bit too hot to eat outside. Unfortunately, it wasn't much cooler inside. We escaped the rain on Cinco de Mayo and somehow found ourselves at Bandit Taco. It luckily wasn't too busy despite the holiday. I ordered the baja fish taco, carnitas taco, and fried chicken taco (the last two were part of a 2 for $5 special). Out of the three, the baja fish was my fave - I loved the cabbage slaw and the chipotle sauce they put on top. The carnitas and fried chicken tacos were good, but not out of this world or anything. They are pretty heavy-handed with the toppings which is nice. I've just been more impressed with the flavor of street-style tacos at other places-and considering the smaller size/portion of these-I'm not sure that they're exactly worth the ~$4 price tag. I'd rate these tacos a solid 3.5 if anything, but it wasn't a bad experience, so I'll bump it up to a 4. I also ordered chips and guac to share, which I was a fan of! Their guac was simple and fresh, albeit a little chunkier than I prefer. Overall, this is a solid spot for tacos if you happen to be in the area, but Taco Bamba is still #1 in my heart. read more
