The staff were very friendly but as we arrived they were transitioning to a single waitress/bartender:/ We ordered the Deep Fried Pickles as an appetizer. The portion was generous, however the pickles were "ribbon" slices almost overtaken by the crispy, but slightly overwhelming batter. We'd love to see a generous pickle spear here instead. We shared the special- Mac & Cheese with Pulled Pork and the Meatloaf Sammie. There was a bit too much barbecue sauce on the pork & meatloaf, so next time we'd order the sauce on the side. Because of this, it was hard to taste the true meat of the meatloaf & the cheese in the Mac. This is a handsome neighborhood bar, with a lot of locals and a fun atmosphere. The service was always attentive without being in our face and super friendly, especially with us being our first time in. The food was an interesting dichotomy, they smoke their meat in house and the smoke chicken I had was incredibly tender and delicious. I had the enchiladas that they have on special occasionally. The enchilada sauce was odd, flavor was mild, tasty enough, but so mild it almost didn't add much, very little cheese as well. The wins were the meat, amazing!! The pico de gallo, so good! The rice was perfect and not broken. Lovely place to visit, especially if you are walking around downtown Troutdale. Price were reasonable too, especially in the area. This is a good neighborhood bar with some expertly smoked food. Small bar with standard on taps and liquors. The thing that stands out here is the food. Much of it is smoked, and expertly so. I had the smoked meatloaf sandwich, and it was really good. The meat is cut and then gently, perfectly smoked so you get the flavor all over the meat. Very basic seasoning highlights the smoke, and some competent crispy fries accompanied. Stayed at Edgefield for a wedding which was also awesome, but for $40 or less both days we walked out stuffed with a great Bloody Mary each to boot. Unfortunately, our server refused to serve my husband (who had only had two drinks) after friends of ours (who came in 30 mins after us and happened to run into us) brought in EMPTY bar glasses, not to be used, he just placed it on the table. First time here at Bandits bar and grill, I have heard good things about this place from friends that live in the area and have stopped here when driving I84. First impression is cute bar/restaurant, the bartender/waitress was so welcoming and attentive. Ordered a beer and she advised the special of the day. I ordered a cup of the tri tip chili and the grilled chicken sandwich. The chili is really good! I'd defiantly order this again! The grilled chicken sandwich was good, the bun was perfect! The bar has a large outdoor area with tables set up to sit outside, perfect for evening time when the sun goes down but during the day and the sun there are umbrellas at each table. Over hearing others in the bar, they were loving the food. I will say the food is coming out fast. The only negative comment is AC seemed to maybe not working to blow cooler air but still was comfy. The hush puppies were burned. All of them. I ate 2 of them because the parts that weren't burned tasted pretty good. The salmon burger was falling apart from the moment I touched it. Decided to cut it in half and try my luck that way. Overall the burger wasn't bad. It wasn't great either though. I was expecting more flavor. I understood what they were trying to do with the food and I appreciated the thought. Unfortunately the execution was lacking. I tipped generously because my server was also working the bar and greeting people but never forgot about me, so I appreciated it. My biggest suggestion is: consider paring down the menu. We were told that Bandits had the best nachos in town so we had to check them out. They are located in historic downtown Troutdale. If you aren't paying attention you'll drive right by them. There is no parking lot, only street parking. The space on the inside is kinda tight and you have to wait to be seated. As of 9/9/21 their Thursday specials are 3 chicken Street tacos for $5, 3 fish tacos for $7, and 3 steak tacos for $9. We ordered the Cajun tots, 3 steak tacos, and chicken nachos. The tots and tacos were pretty good but the nachos is what's going to keep me coming back. The chicken they use on Thursdays is slow smoked in house and marinated in something that I can only describe as magical. This is no ordinary chicken. This chicken will tickle your taste buds and take you on a flavor journey. You can taste all the different spices and juices they use. I can't think of better chicken I've had anywhere else. This place is the real deal! Ordered Jamie's Meat Loaf Sandwich, a Cuban, and a cup of Chili. Jamie took our order, so we knew we were in for a treat. YUM, YUM & YUM. The Chili is made without beans...but isn't lacking anything at all. It was so flavorful & seriously tasty we almost licked the cup clean. Next time we're getting a bowl. The Meat Loaf Sandwich was fresh & substantial with an exceptionally good BBQ sauce. My favorite was the Cuban. I often hesitate to order a Cuban because I'm usually disappointed. Not at Bandits! The roll was fresh, plenty of meats and special attention to the traditional flavors of the sauce. OMG...it's the best. Even though we live about 40 minutes away, it's worth the trip. And the chili was beyond a regular bean heavy variety, the flavor was poppin'. Their popular Cubano is unfortunately not one, meaning it includes bacon, and most significantly, the sandwich is NOT pressed. That said, the meats are much better than you'd expect from this kind of venue. If they would grill or press the bread it would be a much better sandwich.
