Really disappointed with this clinic.I tried calling to make an appointment for my dog and no one answered the phone. I drove over and came to the desk, there were multiple associates at the desk on their phone, eating and talking amongst themselves. One girl was sitting in an empty box behind the desk also on her phone. My dog got a rabies shot and had some side effects an hour later so I called the clinic again hoping to speak with somebody. Nobody answered the phone. I left a detailed message and never received a call back. Don't bring your pet here if you're looking for quality care. read more

Wanted to cancel plan instead girl at desk renewed it. My husband told her that he did not want to renew. She told him "too late" already went thru. I called main office and was zero help. Now paying for another year for both out dogs. We have been with banfield almost 14 years and this is the customer service we get. Worse company ever!!! Initially my experience with Banfield was okay. I moved from White Marsh, to DC, to Annapolis. Everything appeared to be okay at the other branches with other pets. However, at Annapolis it always seemed like I was paying extra time and getting less expertise. Recently I went in with my dog who had a growth on his wide and on his foot. They took a sample of the side and said it was inconclusive, but they were not concerned about it. The growth on the foot they just prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and said they were not concerned with it. Within a week we were in the Emergency Room and scheduled for surgery the next day. My dog had both growths moved as well as two toes. Both growths came back as cancer. Thankfully a second opinion got us ahead of it, hopefully. If we had stuck with Banfield Annapolis, it could have been much worse. Today we made the choice to cancel our wellness plan and move in a different direction. While I know we signed a contract that is year to year, they showed no empathy as to why we were leaving and still charged us over $250 to cancel. We just had to pay almost $8,000 to amputate two toes when they could have removed both growths when they first arrived and were minor. I know it is not fair to discredit an entire business or location due to one experience but to me we felt on an island and alone on this one, at the expense of our pet's own health. This isn't what you look for in a provider. Moreover, the wellness plan is a shame and every visit I was spending additional money. This place just made us feel like cattle. I would not recommend this location to anyone and would suggest researching a private veterinary clinic in your area. read more

This Banfield location is one of the worst veterinary experiences I've ever had. Most of the staff come across as ride and dismissive, and they don't make you feel comfortable leaving your dog in their care. The facility itself is dirty and poorly maintained, which does not inspire confidence in how pets are treated behind the scenes. My dog had to stay there for the day and came home absolutely terrified. The veterinarian never spoke to me directly once, which is unacceptable. It made me feel like my concerns didn't matter and like my dog was just another number. I truly question whether they care about the animals at all or if it's all about getting people in and out as quickly as possible. If you love your pet, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. There are plenty of vets who actually communicate, keep their spaces clean, and treat both animals and owners with respect. This Banfield location is not one of them. read more

Brought my pup for teeth cleaning (8 am -drop/ 4:30 pick up) came in with tartar and build up by the gums as he never had them scaled and cleaned before; several he's later, left with no signs of brown and a white new smile! Price was included in the plan which was a plus. This in and if itself is reason to change me here, as dental cleaning at other vets can be very expensive; The anesthesia alone can cost!! I am happy having made the switch this far from my former vet for my pup, while they were great, this is closer and more cost effective. Hum, where do I start? Let's just say that I typically evaluate myself before thinking it's someone else who has a problem. Well, my experiences with this location were confirmed when I noticed the 2 star rating and people saying the staff is unfriendly and dry. They are very dry and transactional. This is 100% accurate. In fact, someone from Banfield customer care team called me because I expressed concerns via the Banfield survey. I noticed that the people at the desk flash a smile now... they are still very unfriendly. I am not looking for friends, just people who care, so I'll move past that. Well my dog is 7.5 months old and has had a UTI for much of the time that I've had her. My house is very clean, she takes all her meds, and I have her on the RX food. I am doing all I can on my end to keep her healthy. I have expressed to the staff at Banfield that I pass 3 other Banfields on my way to Annapolis (45 minute commute). I keep telling them that I'll get the urine sample. I don't want them to have to put a needle in her bladder... she urinates just fine for me. Despite the 3 bladder infections so far, I have to keep begging and reminding them to supply me with a collection tray. I went again today, the dog does have a UTI. I was told to bring a sample back in 2 weeks. Guess what? I don't have the sample kit!!!! They rushed me out of there so fast. Now let's chat about her spay surgery. She is a 11 lb puppy and she has a 2.5 inch scar down her tummy. To make matters worse, my daughter has her sister (same size, same litter). Her incision looks much better. It's not as long and the vet at the Herndon Banfield used DISSOLVABLE stitches. My neighbor's dogs have all had dissolvable stitches. WHY IN THE HELL DOES MY DOG HAVE TO BE DIFFERENT. The job of sewing her back up was very sloppy. Her incision doesn't look good. The nurses and veterinarians seem a little more caring, but honestly, the service there is AWFUL. I will be moving my baby to a different location. It's too far to drive for unacceptable service. All the talking in the world can not fix the Annapolis location. I AM done. read more

I have been taking my cats to Banfield locations for over 10 years with OWP's and had no issues. When I moved, I took them to the Annapolis location to get them established. I brought both of my cats for their comprehensive exams on 2/24/23. I was told that my cat Gradi had jaundice and was very ill, I was shocked. He was not the cat that I was concerned about. My cat Binx was diagnosed as diabetic. I was told I would need to bring them both back in around 2 weeks for a recheck. I called the vet a few days after the appointment because Gradi was throwing up the medication he was given whole. I received a voicemail three days later stating to "keep trying" with no other suggestions. On 3/13/23, the office called to confirm my follow-up appointments and I mentioned that Gradi was not any better and had started falling over while walking shortly before they called. They told me they did not have any appointments to see him and offered no recommendations. We took Gradi to the ER vet shortly after that call and he died in my arms. I feel like Banfield neglected my concerns about Gradi, which caused him to die prematurely. I brought Binx in for his follow-up on 3/15/23 and explained that I had to put Gradi down earlier in the week. They did not seem to care and offered no condolences. During the appointment on 2/24/23, I did not receive any instructions on how to prepare for the appointment on 3/15/23, so I was told that they may not be able to run the test since I did not do the prep work. I was told that they would call me if they were not able to do the test. I signed the paperwork at check-in and authorized the less invasive test. I wanted to do the less invasive test due to Binx losing his brother, whom he has lived with his entire 8 years of life. I received a voicemail from them later in the day stating that they decided to do the more invasive test, without my consent. When I signed the paperwork at drop-off, it said that I would be notified if they decided to do a procedure that was over $100. I called them back and said that since I did not authorize the more invasive test, that I was not going to pay for it. I spoke with the nurse on the phone briefly who said that she would speak to me when I picked Binx up. When I arrived, I was handed Binx and the bill. The receptionist gave me a paper bag with his harness in it. I was confused, since the lobby leads outside, and Binx could have easily gotten loose into the parking lot and been killed. I went into an exam room to put his harness on to ensure his safety. The nurse never came out to speak with me. I was told that I would need to schedule another appointment to have the more invasive testing done and was provided preparation instructions. I hesitated to schedule, since I not only had to pay for the less invasive test that day, but I now had to make another appointment to do the more invasive test. At this point, I do not trust that staff is doing what is best and only want more money. I had to spend $600 at the ER vet since Banfield couldn't be bothered to see Gradi on the day he died. I've also spent almost $600 at Banfield in three visits despite having OWP's. Despite being told that I would receive the results from Binx's test within a day or two, I was never called with the results of the test. After posting my review, I was contacted by the Chief of Staff, who essentially called me a liar. I provided paperwork and a timeline of events to support my claims, which seemed to change the conversation slightly. He agreed to see Binx for the additional testing, as I did not want the initial vet or nurse to be involved. Ryah (hope that is spelled correctly) was absolutely fantastic, she was the first genuine person I met at that practice. I wish she had been involved in Gradi's care, I feel like my concerns would have been taken seriously. read more

I took our older terrier in and signed up for the Pet Plus plan since he needed to have his teeth cleaned, but otherwise healthy. When I hadn't heard from them by mid afternoon I called and was told that they had another dog to work on but that he would be next. Finally around 5:00 when I called back, I was able to pick him up. Recently I took him back to get vaccines and didn't want to purchase heartworm meds that day because their mark up was ridiculous. Most recent visit was to look at a growth on his tongue. They want to upgrade his plan for another $40 a month and the additional teeth cleaning and possible growth removal they recommended was still going to be an additional $800. Never spoke with a vet about this at all. They prescribed an antibiotic for him that they wanted to charge $75. Thankfully I got a paper script and at the Giant it was less than $8. What a rip-off. Terrible service and I am stuck for another 6 months with them. read more

This review is for a specific event. My dog has a collapsed trachea and he experienced a seizure. Banfeld said I could bring him up first thing in the morning and they would work him in. However I got there a few minutes before 9am and the lobby was already very full. They recommended I take my dog to the emergency hospital. So I did. I left the emergency hospital with an RX After 1 week I called Banfeld (as instructed by the hospital) for a refill. Banfeld, despite having all the blood work and records from the hospital visit one week before and having given him a similar RX for this chronic issue 6 months earlier said they would only refill the RX if I brought my dog in and BTW they were booking 3-4 weeks out. So no alt suggestion, just take it or leave it. I really don't think they care about my pets health, which is the only reason I would take my dog there, so I am looking for a new vet :-( read more

I had a very pleasant experience at this Banfield location; so great that I'm willing to drive an additional 15 minutes for the quality service and flexible scheduling. I was happily greeted by the staff at this location. It took about 20 minutes for my pups ear swab results (only reason I didn't give 5 stars) but the service was great! Vet and staff were so warm and friendly to my Lou that he didn't get overly frustrated and agitated. Praise God! read more

Banfield Pet Hospital - Exam room - Veterinarians Near Me - Annapolis, Maryland

I walked out of this place today feeling like I was robbed. I had been twice before to bring my cats in for a routine check-up and inquired about a medication one of them was on (and was prescribed by two previous vets). He was out and I asked if they would be able to prescribe him more. This is when they told me they would need to do blood work on him before making a decision (which is strange because the previous two vets never did blood work on my cat and were able to prescribe the medication without any issue since it was a skin issue basically). But I obliged since my cat needed it or he would have to wear a cone for a while. I'm not sure why they couldn't just get his medical records from the previous vets as he visited them both within the last 4 months so I couldn't imagine much as changed since then. So I drop him off and get a call to pick him up a few hours later. The front desk and nurse were very polite and friendly. I get there and they tell me that they can only give me one refill of the prescription and if I wanted any more of the medication I would have to bring him in AGAIN for another visit. At this point, I'm already $350 deep in bills just to get a $20 prescription. They want to squeeze another $150 out of me just to get the medication I need. I was told that if this steroid doesn't fix the issue (which they knew it wouldn't since it's the 3rd time he has been prescribed it), then I would have to bring him back in and he would get prescribed a different medicine. I asked why couldn't they just prescribe him the new stuff now since the old steroid clearly doesn't fix his issue completely and I was told because they haven't seen him enough yet (RIGHT AFTER THEY JUST TOOK HIS BLOOD AND CHARGED ME $300 for it). So I basically paid $350 to get access to one refill of a $20 medication and to get access to his new medication, which I will inevitably need to get access to and they know it, I will have to schedule another visit, pay the $150 fee for that visit and then whatever else they can conjure up to charge me. If I would've known this bloodwork wasn't going to solve my problem, I would've never brought my cat in, especially since he never had to do bloodwork for the same exact issue from two different vets. The cherry on top of all of this is the invoice has a blurb about how much you would've saved on your visit if you had paid for the office's overpriced wellness plan. This is by far the worst vet experience I've had and I recommend this vet to absolutely no one I know. read more

(besides one male vet tech and one of the ladies up front) 90% of the employees have nasty condescending attitudes and the all around experience is always stressful and unpleasant at this location. My baby boys are my life. Banfield seems to get that. My boys are medium to large breed dogs, sometimes giving them shots is not the easiest thing to do. No matter how difficult of a mood my boys might be in that day they are always treated the same. A couple pats on the head. A few belly rubs, maybe a hug or two while there getting their shots. And afterwards they are always rewarded with a treat. The great attitude doesn't stop with the pets so far we have never had a problem with the doc, she's always kind, always listening, never rude! Doc you get five stars!!! On the other hand the front desk......... Ehhhh they could use some work. I know we have always had a problem with one of the young ladies that works there. She cuts you off in the middle of a sentence. Loves to roll her eyes. Not knowledgeable at all when it comes to her job. She's just flat out rude. I understand you may be a young high school kid who's rather play on your phone than actually work but come on hun at least pretend that you like you job. So far that has been the only problem we have had with them. After a few painful moments of sitting in the waiting room with self righteous high school kid, we are sent back to see the very awesome doc. Its all smooth sailing from there! I've visited this office on multiple occasions for both my cat's and chinchillas' medical needs. Unfortunately I won't be going back for a variety of reasons. - I never saw the same doctor twice, I felt a huge disconnect because of this. I am sure they have good notes in their computer system but things can get lost in translation and when dealing with my pet's health I am not willing to take the chance. -They are EXPENSIVE. A simple check of my cat's ears, some antibiotics for an ear infection and some ear cleaner ran me nearly $200! -When I mentioned the mounting costs and inquired about lower cost alternatives (such as generic forms of meds) I was accused of putting a price on my cat's health and was made to feel like a poor pet owner. - They make the hard sell on their pet health plans saying I would save so much money on my bill if I "joined", it was something I was not comfortable with. What they do have going for them is they will treat all types of animals from dogs and cats to rodents. And they are conveniently located at Petsmart. read more

We signed up for the puppy plan and only chose this vet because all others were not taking new patients during covid. We left as soon as possible. Front desk staff here is extremely rude. No one ever answers the phone, so we would have to drive to the location just to get answers following visits. The last straw for us was when we saw Dr. Anderson for the first time. They did the exam in the back room (which we always felt uncomfortable with, our new vet does normal check ups with us present) and then she came in to tell us everything was fine. As any normal pet owner, I had generic questions for the vet. When I said "I just have a few questions," Dr. Anderson says with a snarky attitude "Well I have other pets to see so I don't really have time" So as I went through my list of reasonable questions, she was basically inching more towards the door with every answer just trying to get out. We have a golden who can have hip problems, so I asked about supplements we could give him. Again with a snarky attitude, she says "Well if he was purchased from a responsible breeder with OFA testing you'll be fine" and left it at that. Luckily we never had to take him here for anything serious before we got out. I would not recommend this vet to anyone who cares about the health and well being of their pet. read more

Worst Vet around. 4 month old puppy being seen almost weekly and they cannot figure out what's wrong with him. Was there again this week with vomiting and diarrhea and they gave fluids... calls us next day to check on him and we still have diarrhea but because he's not vomiting they're not as concerned. Right ok... call back again today saying he's now lethargic and refusing food and have yet to get a call back because they're seeing patients. Absolutely horrible vet! Will NOT be going back and got an appointment with another vet that will provide proper care. My dog can be a bit much going to the vet, excessive barking, but most vets and techs are good at calming her down. Once you pet her she will stop barking. Regardless of me stating this to the vet and tech they continued to ignore, and therefore she continued to bark. The vet was afraid to touch her and therefore did an extremely poor exam. I had to hold her in order for the vet to even to the simplest exam. I even held her to get the vaccine. I am not confident in DR. ANDERSONS ability to handle large dogs and will not come back. read more

When we brought my dog in two weeks ago, it was noted that he had a significant weight gain. The veterinarian offered little concern, other than saying we should make him lose weight, and offered no follow-up questions about behavior, energy level, etc. In addition, we wanted to get the dog a flu shot, but because we didn't have prior records handy we were told we would have to come back and pay for another full check-up. Disgusted, we made an appointment with another vet for the shot. When we brought him in, this vet was VERY concerned about the weight gain and spent a lot of time asking questions and walking through his routine. She ordered blood-work and we came to find out he had textbook hypothyroidism, for which he is now being treated. Banfield treats pet care like fast food service. They just want you in and out, get your money, send you home. I am appalled by the fact that they had 4 years of medical data on my dog and the only response to a 15 lb weight gain was that we should stick him on a diet. I would never recommend using Banfield to anyone who cares about their pet. read more

The staff behind the desk is great at ignoring you. One person says "someone will be with you shortly" and I stand there for 5 minutes and watch various staff members come up to the desk, do something, and then leave, never saying a thing to me as I'm holding two bags of stool samples. Nobody wants to help. Their customer service is the worst I've experienced at any vet office. I wish they had staff dedicated to quality customer service at the Annapolis Banfield. Seems like they are only there to get some hours in and leave, having the least amount of contact with their wellness plan customers. What a shame. I'm not sure I can trust their exam reports after this. I fear they are doing the bare minimum at ALL times and will overlook details. Grrrr read more

This is a tough one for me....as most know who have read my reviews, I am not normally at a loss for words and am not short on opinions. I was with a Banfield clinic in Kansas and loved them, but my experience in Annapolis hasn't been stellar. But I am very conflicted about Banfield. So in order to keep things objective, I'll break it down into pros and cons. PROS * They are very conveniently located. Not only are they inside the PetSmart store, where you can do your shopping while you wait, but they're also pretty close to the highway, near the mall, and many other stops that you may need to make. * They do have some extended hours, which works out well for those of us who have to work full time. * Their wellness plans make it easier to pay for your pet's preventive healthcare ($40 a month as opposed to hundreds out of pocket at once) * The staff have (for the most part) been friendly, and although we've seen different doctors each time, they've all been friendly CONS * Although the doctors are friendly, they don't go out of their way to explain things. Example: Today, the assistant called to tell me my dog was ready for pickup, then casually mentioned that he's developing degenerative muscular atrophy in his back legs. No advice on what to do for him, what to expect....nothing. It would have been nice if the doctor would have made that call in case I had questions. * Their prices are VERY high for anything that's not included in the wellness plan. I've never understood why veterinary drugs are so much more expensive than human drugs, when in many cases they're the exact same thing. Case in point: My dog was prescribed cephalexin for a skin infection, and Banfield wanted over $60 for a 7 day supply. The exact same drug for PEOPLE is on the $4 list at most pharmacies. When I questioned the price diffference, I was given a phone number to their corporate HQ and told I would have to address it with them. When I called them, I was given a song and dance about needing the specifics of my dog's case, etc. NO...you don't need the specifics of a case to explain why you have such a huge markup on your medications. Considering that I actually had enough cephalexin at home already, I didn't buy it from them, which I'm sure caused them to write a note in my dog's file about my noncompliance. Oh well! * They will nickel and dime you to death with ridiculous charges. One charge in particular is a sore spot for me, and every time I drop my dog off, I will mark it off their list and tell them up front that I absolutely REFUSE to pay it. What is this charge that it would spark such an intense response from me? $20 for an "additional restraint". Huh? I had never heard of anything like this until I came to Annapolis, and was then told by the girl behind the counter that this is a charge that they apply "if it takes more than 2 nurses to hold him down for treatment". Sorry, I've got to call BS on this one. There are SO many things wrong here....first of all, NOBODY in this place is a nurse, they're veterinary techs or assistants. Maybe they don't know it, but it's actually illegal to call yourself a nurse if you're not. Petty to some, maybe. But as a nurse myself, I take offense. Second, they're not paying someone extra to come in to perform this task of holding him still, this is someone who is already at work, being paid a regular hourly wage. There is no additional cost to them if someone has to help hold my dog. And third, how do I know this restraint was actually needed or used? It's not like a drug or supply that has a serial number that can be tracked, or an inventory to be checked. Its basically your word against my dog's, and unless you speak golden retriever, his word doesn't carry much weight. They've never actually charged me for this, as I've made it VERY clear every time I bring him in that I absolutely refuse to pay this. But I'm sure that one of these days it will happen, and then things may get ugly. I have to admit....this ONE particular charge angers me so much that I'm seriously considering cancelling my wellness plan for my dog once it expires, and taking him to the vet that's literally across the street from my house. I have a feeling that in the long run, it'll actually save me money anyway. read more

I have taken my dog there for a year and a half because they stuck my on their "Wellnes Plan" ( I do not recommend this at all). Every visit I waited over 45 minutes for the Vet, and on numerous occasions I had to bring my dog very soon after because they didnt solve the problem at all. My dog is a Boxer/Bull and is very healthy, so I am not a complainer type of person....but when my dog really is sick (puffed up eyes and bumps all over her), they didnt seem to care too much about fixing things quickly. They also quoted me on a wart removal in her ear. And then they told me a week later a price that was 350.00 higher than the one they quoted me on! I then found out that warts like hers should just be left alone and the body will get rid if it (and it did in a few weeks). This place just wants your money. If you care about your pet, then take him or her to a place that may charge a little more, but genuinely cares for your pet. I agree with Legs 100%. This place is like a K Mart of animal care. We've taken our dog here for the past two years and just recently adopted a new pup who we took in today. Friendly staff, always efficient and the vets are fantastic. I have been going to Banfield Pet Hospital since my Bassett hounds were puppies. I have even traveled to California and back and relied on the wellness care plan that Banfield provides to keep my hounds healthy. Since returning to Annapolis I have been disappointed with the apparent communications that the staff seems to have with their patients owners. Today was not the first time I have encountered this but it will be the last time I do. My husband was kind enough to take our hound in for a suture removal of a surgery that was performed two weeks ago with out incident. Today my husband took our hound for a suture removal when he was told that our hound needed several vaccines and the tech stated that it was noted that the hound was allergic to the Lyme's immunization. My husband said "okay, I didn't know that". After discussing the fact that our dog has allergies and has been scratching the doctor offers to give Chloe a shot of Benadryl. My husband said that was not needed because we had Benadryl at home. My husband released the dog to go in the back with the vet and was given her vaccines. Later at home, I noticed my hound was not acting right, she then begins to vomit. I wondered why she was vomiting. He said I'm not sure, but they gave her some immunizations today after removing her stitches. When asked which immunizations he stated that "they did not give him documentation of what was given as they have in the past". What do you mean she is allergic to one and she is acting as she did with the Lyme's immunization. I immediately call Banfield and sure enough the Lyme's immunization was given. I asked to speak to the vet. Dr. Spar who administered it. Dr. Spar was questioned as to why she would vaccinate a dog that has a documented allergy on her chart? Her response was truly the most unprofessional response I could have ever heard. She stated that, "your husband has a communication problem. He was told that she had an allergy and he stated it was okay to give. We offered to pre-medicate and he refused". I asked her if she even looked at the chart and reiterated how could she give a medication knowing how severe the reaction was when it was originally given. Her response was I will note it on the chart that your husband is not to bring in your pet since he obviously doesn't know the pet well enough and that we contact you directly for her care in the future. My response was "how do I even know that you will even read your own notes when you don't pay attention to the fact my dog is allergic to the Lyme's Immunization". Communication error or not we pay you big money to be our dogs vet and you gave my dog something she is allergic to. With that being said, I don't recommend anyone go to a vet that CANNOT OWN UP to her mistakes, instead blames my husband who can not communicate our dogs needs". Lame response. Won't be trusting you to care for my dogs anymore. I just wonder how many other dogs you have done this to? read more

Our experience with Banfield Pet Hospital in Annapolis, Maryland has been exceptional. Dr. Camilliere provides outstanding care for all three of our pets. He is excellent at diagnosing the problem and thoroughly explaining the treatment. At the same time, he is gentle and reassuring to our pet. The staff is always friendly and courteous. There are no long waits in the waiting room. We have never felt overcharged for services. The fees are right in line with the other Pet Hospitals in the area, perhaps a little less. We strongly feel our pets are getting the best care under the supervision of Dr. Camilliere. Unless he leaves, we will continue our support for Banfield Pet Hospital! read more

After having both of my dogs on the wellness plan for 6 years now I will say after today's experience I will NEVER bring my pets to this vet again!!!! I had my first ever emergency visit for my dog as she got into the trash last night and started to profusely vomit and did so for sometime. I called at 11:40 to see if they could see my dog, they asked if I could make it there by 12:30. I said yes as long as traffic is bad since i drive over 25 miles from the eastern shore of Maryland to Annapolis and yes my dog vomited in my car during the drive. i walk in the door at 12:43 due to a back up on the bridge as I explained to them. The receptionist asked my name then asked me to hold on a moment and went into the back room, my dog at this time was dry heaving in the waiting room. :-/. We she came back out she informed me they could not see my dog because they were going to lunch and I could wait if I would like but after they got back from lunch I would have to wait a couple of hours due to other appointments. She instructed me I could take my dog to the emergency vet center down the road if I would like. They are lucky I had my three children with me when she informed me of this. I calmly collected myself and walked out that door and will NEVER step foot in there again. As I was waiting at the er vet I called to cancel my optimum wellness plan and the gentleman I explained the situation to was at a loss for words at what they said to me. He was very kind and I will be calling back Monday to file a formal complaint. I am happy to say the very kind vet at the emergency room got fluids in my dog who was dehydrating and gave her anti nausea medicine so she would stop vomiting. She is now resting comfortably and has had no more vomiting. I am writing this review to warn others how they may be treated in the event Of an emergency with your pet. The sign on the wall that states sick and injured pets will be seen first is a bunch of bull. They just won't see you at all and send you down the street. read more

I'm sorry to say that this is not the place to bring your pet. I dealt with them over the phone; my mother actually took in our family dog, a beagle named Buddy. Neither of us had a good experience. The primary problem is cost. I've owned many dogs over the years, and had a variety of radiology procedures. This one was billed at $220 dollars (for a foot x-ray!). Anyone who's had a dog x-rayed knows that it should cost somewhere in the region of $80-$150 on the high end, $60-90 more usually. I'm guessing that because this is a national chain, with the budget for lots of advertising, they sucker in a lot of people who don't know that vet pricing is variable. Then there was the staff. My mother's experience at the facility was middle-of-the-road, but when I called to ask why the x-ray was so much, the staff was EXTREMELY hostile and impolite. I said politely that I wasn't comfortable paying so much for a simple x-ray and the person on the phone (her name was Katie) said almost immediately "We'll be handing over your bill to a collection agency." I asked to speak to a manager and she said I could speak to someone at their corporate headquarters in Portland, where the pricing is set. Great local business guys, thanks! There are so many good local vets around - I wouldn't support this huge national chain. In my opinion they don't care about your animal, they're rude, and they're out to make money rather than run a business that is profitable but customer-oriented. It's a little bit like taking your pet to a hedge fund or something. It's all about the money. read more

I hate to even give this practice one star. To keep it short and simple - they don't care about the well being of your pet. They only care about your money! My dog was vomiting blood followed by bloody diarrhea. He would not eat, drink, and was lethargic. I called to schedule an appointment & was told that I had to wait until the next day (I was never given the option to make an appointment at a different location). When I asked what tests would be ran and a ball park estimate on how much I would be paying they refused to tell me. "Well let you know when you pick him up". I even asked if I should just go straight to an emergency clinic. They told me that he would "probably" be fine until tomorrow. My dog was diagnosed with HGE, which if left untreated could have been fatal. I am appalled by the negligence and disgusted that they didn't take my pets health seriously. Do yourself a favor and invest in pet health insurance, not the "wellness" plan! read more

I honestly don't know how this place is even in business still. The gentleman veterinarian is wonderful, but the manager is HORRIBLE! Not only were we not informed that our dog had to be in first thing in the morning to be spayed (they said anytime before NOON we could bring her in), but they refused to do the blood work that was required because 'it takes too long'. Funny, because when we talked to another employee (the gentleman), he did her blood work right away and it was ready immediately. This was Wednesday. Today (Friday) my husband took the dog back (at 7:30) and was informed that he would have to pay a bunch of different fees that should have been covered by the pet insurance we've been paying for the last year! They said there could possibly be a charge if she needed to be held down during the surgery. What?? After they finally spayed her, when my husband went to pick her up, they charged him an extra $80 because she was supposedly in heat. Rather than calling us to see if we still wanted to proceed, they did it anyway. When he asked them why they didn't call us and if they would give him some kind of discount for all of the nonsense, the manager (Heather) ripped into him! If she had just said politely that there were no discounts possible, we wouldn't be so mad! This level of 'service' is absolutely unacceptable! If this review was for the gentleman (I'm sorry that I didn't catch your name!) I would have given 5 stars. If I could give zero stars for Heather, I would! Shameful! ETA: we also had to go next door to purchase a cone for the dog because they didn't have any! There goes another $30! read more

If you are looking for a veterinarian in Annapolis I would highly recommend Banfield Animal Hospital. We have a 10 month old harlequin Great Dane who loves to see Dr. Anderson and all the lovely nurses (especially Samantha and Katie.) Wether it was treating the giardia or helping heal his cuts and bruises from breaking out of a crate and jumping out of the bed of my pick up at 70 mph they were there to help with professional expertise and care. I highly recommend joining the wellness plan as it has saved us hundreds if not thousands of dollars through all of his "adventures" . I have been to many different vets on both sides of the Bridge and couldn't be happier with the service I have received at Banfield. read more

When I first started taking my dog here I never had an issue, it was relatively easy to get appointments when we needed to and the nurses were and still are great with her. Since her spay procedure last Friday I've been really dissatisfied with our experience. They gave me very minimal information on what was needed for her recovery (no instructions on how big the cone needed to be, had to return the one I'd already bought when I went to pick her up) and they never called me to tell her she was ready to be picked up, I had to call them to find out if she was ready to come home (they told me they would call between 2 and 5, I called at 4:30 and it sounded like she had been ready to be picked up for hours and they just forgot to call me). Took her in for a follow up today because her stitches are irritated and slightly infected, and after they checked me out and gave me her meds I had to wait outside for 20 minutes for them to bring her out even though I know she was done with her appointment and ready to go home. Every time I've dropped her off recently there have been enough dogs outside that it's kind of chaotic. Not planning on continuing with this vet once her puppy plan is up, wish we had started with a different vet when I first got her. read more

My mother and I have two dogs, both now in their senior years. We've had Wellness Plans for both of them since they were puppies first adopted. Recently, we'd been contemplating finding a new vet for several reasons: 1. The mounting expense. Wellness Plans aren't cheap and are ever going up, and even the more expensive tiers do not cover everything. 2. Rotating doctors and staff. We rarely saw the same doctor twice, and some vet techs and front desk staff were familiar, but not so much that they could have put my dogs and me together without prompting. 3. I'm not even sure if they have a blanket policy on how they schedule and carry out their appointments. There is nothing I want to do less than drop my dogs off at 0800 in the morning and go to pick them up at 1630, only to find that they haven't even been seen yet. (This has actually happened on multiple occasions.) In the end, an emergency situation made our decision for us. One of my dogs hurt his back one night and his hindquarters went lame. I called Banfield and was told it sounded serious, that I should come in as soon as possible and a doctor would be waiting to see me. I arrived within 30 minutes, and, surprise, no vet was waiting. It took almost 30 minutes to be set up in an exam room, and another 40 to be seen. The vet said it sounded to her like he had ruptured a disc. After making this initial diagnosis, she proceeded to press down on his spine in the area she thought had the rupture so hard he cried out loud enough for one of the ladies in the waiting area to hear him. I asked the vet not to do that again, and said that I'd pay for an x-ray if she needed more proof. This is where the fearmongering began. The vet ignored my request for an x-ray and assured me that it was all but certain a ruptured disc. She said that it would require surgery to fix. Unfortunately, the surgery was prohibitively expensive, and there was no guarantee it would fix the problem or that my little old man would recover well enough to justify it. I shared my concerns and asked if there was any other treatment we could try, and she basically told me to make an appointment with the neurosurgeon or an appointment with them to put him down. She wouldn't even start him on steroids, because she said something about them interfering with whatever detection tests the neurosurgeon would have to perform. I left after paying almost $200 for muscle relaxers and pain meds just to make him more comfortable. My mother and I knew we couldn't afford the surgery, and did seriously discuss the option of euthanasia. But, I refused to do that without exhausting my options, and decided to get a second opinion. Long story short, our new vet confirmed that my dog had slipped his disc, not ruptured it. A month's worth of steroids and kennel rest, and he's as good as new. New vet said Banfield should have started him on steroids immediately, and if they were not comfortable making a proper diagnosis, they should have, at the very least, taken an x-ray. In retrospect, it seemed very much like they wanted to pawn me off on a very, very expensive (and ultimately unnecessary) specialist, or kill my dog, rather than work with me on an alternate treatment plan. Wellness Plans canceled, and both my boys are loving their new vet. Oh, and...the salt in the wound? Banfield never even called to check up on him. read more
