Before posting this , I read the posts of 5 stars thinking "who would possibly give five stars to these people" . If you are considering this location, I invite you to reconsider and find another option. Local clinics are a bit more expensive, but in the end you will pay more with this location and receive the worse service I have seen in a clinic/hospital, not to mention the worst customer service and client relations experience available in the US at the moment So, after reading the reviews, i can see that those five stars are for the franchise and the plan, NOT FOR THIS specific hospital. The franchise and it's plan are great, but the employees executing the plans should be audited regularly and the customers should receive an independent survey company call to review the experience as the employees do something different than what's sold in the plan Out of three dogs, one of them is older and have more issues. So we scheduled our older dog for a check-up. Three times we were changed the schedule. All of them at the hospital, with no courtesy call. I would love to say that this is a single event , but no. It's a modus operandi of the manager. He/she didn't have the time to talk to me even when a regular check became an emergency. After complaining to corporate, I was told that it's always better to try to fix it with the manager first. So I followed the system, and got no response. Once again , when this became an emergency, I called and the manager, through her assistant told me "we were going to call you". I guess time moves in a different dimension in that hospital. I told them I didn't care anymore and needed a check up as my dog was getting worse every day . My experience at North McAllen Banfield was absolutely phenomenal! I called a Tuesday morning inquiring about an appointment for my Princess! Receptionist Ericka told me she would call me back if any cancellations were made. Cassandra, called me at 10am to let me know they could accommodate my pet that same day! I was so thankful for them for this!! The assistant Daniella, called me for every update that the Doctor had! I received a call from Dr. Rivera when my pet was ready for pick up and let me know all the concerns and recommendations she had for Princess! I ended up enrolling in the wellness plan that they offer and i absolutely LOVE it! I highly recommend this place, customer service is amazing! read more

The front desk employees are rude, will roll their eyes at you and are no help at all. Very disappointed.

This review is about my experiences at Banfield (North 10th) with Dr. Miles Looman-Nelson. Until we found Dr. Looman-Nelson, we felt as though we didn't have a Veterinary doctor we felt completely comfortable with handling our cats. The arrival of Dr. Nelson provided a MUCH NEEDED niche for the Upper Valley (McAllen, Pharr, Edinburg, Mission) area for veterinary cat care. It's very obvious he is very knowledgeable about cats/felines and shares that special connection with them that many cat owners do with their kittys. As well he should, he mentioned having many cats as pets at home. We have 2 cats. 1 large lazy one and 1 huge scardy cat (literally). Dr. Looman-Nelson has seen both. While the vet assistants can be hit-or-miss, Dr. Looman-Nelson is a sure bet! Our fat-cat was the first to be seen by Dr. Nelson. She had been having issues so we took her in. She loves people and would sit in the lap of the devil himself given the chance. We noticed that Dr. Nelson had a very gentle yet confident way of handling her. From his body language to his conversation with us (and the patient), that Dr. Nelson is a "Cat Guy". Not only did he diagnose and treat her underlying issue (kidneys), he took the time to answer ALL questions we had and even chat a bit about his own cats. Unlike many prior visits with other DVM's, we did not feel rushed or that cats were really "not their thing". A few months later, the real test came when our big cat, who is afraid of his own shadow, started exhibiting teeth issues. The cat is EXTREMELY skittish hadn't been to a vet since he had been neutered about 8 years prior. He's the type that scurries off and hides whenever anyone comes over to the house. The vet assistants were very nice and encouraging as far as being able to handle him. After extracting a loose tooth (on the spot!), Dr. Nelson explained, in detail, his issues, how he planned to treat them and most importantly why. For example, Dr. Nelson explained about how he chose a certain anti-biotic to use, how it worked and why he chose to use that one specifically for our case. If you have a cat that needs care, ask for him by name. We schedule our cat's appointments specifically around his work schedule now. read more

Had a horrible experience at this location. Vet drilled into me to get my dog spayed before she went into heat to help prevent certain types of cancers. This is not the kind of appointment that can be scheduled on the app. You must call on the phone. Tried to call for weeks. Nobody ever answers or calls you back. I finally got somebody may 3 to set me the next avail appt... May 28. So now my dog is in heat. There is now an extra 180 bucks. This is triple what other vets charge. Call around and ask. Then ask them about changing my plan since we aren't going to pay that much extra for what should be an included service. The girl does it and cannot back it out. Also apparently she has no supervisor either. I'm not surprised. So while I love the vets at this location the desk people really need an attitude adjustment. Something that should be covered under the plan is now almost 200 extra with a plan discount is really unacceptable. I'm apparently now stuck in this plan for another year. 1 800 customer service couldn't fix her mistake. Because of my poor experience now they can expect me to be nit picky about every little included service and you have her snotty attitude to thank for it. read more

Is there a no stars button? This hospital had one thing going for them, that was Dr. Looman who is no longer working there. I can't remember the amount of times my appointment had to be put on hold because of an emergency. Literally almost every single time I was there, all of which I had appointments for. The last time I had to go, my dog had an emergency and we were turned away, told that it was appointment only, and given a number to another hospital. I was furious, as mentioned before almost everyother time I was there I had to wait. 3-4 hours so my dog could be vaccinated is ridiculous. The veterinarian that is there now has only seen my dog once, after that experience I refused to let him see her. They offer absolutely no advice other than to buy their outrageously expensive products and scold you if you refuse. They refuse to have any urgency about any matters, and when I filed a complaint I was told someone would be in contact with me in three to five days. It's now 2 1/2 weeks later and I still have not heard back from them. I will never be taking my pets back there and hope no one else will either. If you love your pets, please take them somewhere else. read more

Dont waste your time going here. I needed to bring my rabbit in to get her nails trimmed and I was told they only work by appointment only, and that the next opening isnt until the last week of May. They should allow walk-ins. Very bad business and very unprofessional. I also called the South McAllen store, and they said they don't do rabbits at all. How can the North store do rabbits, but not the South store? Unbelievable. Banfield needs to provide for customer needs more and practice their customer service skills. Also, the lady at the South store refused to allow me to speak to a manager or supervisor. She was very condescending and rude and disrespectful. Do NOT waste your time or money at Banfield. I'm taking my business to Pet Doctor 911 from now on, who actually were very warm and welcoming, and very respectful and all inclusive, not discriminating and disrespectful and unprofessional like Banfield. read more

Very pleased with the staff and service. Our cat had a claw that was starting to grow into her paw pad. We were given a same day appointment and they even called and moved us up on the schedule. Dr. Conklin, Amy, and Dani were all terrific and took great care of our pet. read more

First I want to say I don't live in this area, I live in Houston which the service and experience is completely opposite of what I just endured. When I arrived which was at 12:30 all the lights were off and the phone was ringing non stop. I heard people in the back talking but no one came out. After ten minutes I was about to knock on the door but 3 women came out and turned the lights on. Anyway, long story short she said that no one would be on the office until 2. I told her it was an emergency and she just said I could drop him off but they wouldn't see him until 2 or after. I have the wellness plan and I know for a fact it's discounted for services she told me nothing would be covered and referred me to go to PetDoctor 911 on tenth and Trenton. Honestly do no bother going to this Banfield. Waste of time since no one answers the phone and waste of money since no one wants to work )taking a 2 hr break)! I actually called 5 times (an hr before we showed up) thinking everyone was busy helping animals. Worst place ever! read more

Don't even bother. The staff was clueless and unhelpful, and the vet wanted to overmedicate my poor dog. I didn't feel like the vet cared about the welfare or comfort of my dog. Went elsewhere, paid less, and received much better care. read more

Like a previous customer stated I wish there is a NO STAR option. I actually had several dog owners tell me NOT to go to Banfield but it was close to my house so I gave it shot big mistake. First I made an appointment online and the website gave me a number of choices for times on Saturday so I chose the one that best fit my needs; on the day of the appointment they called and told me that the time slot chosen was not available and they were having trouble with the website. They did apologize and asked if I could reschedule so they gave me a number of options but most of them were during my work day but I chose one at 5:30 well like I mentioned I work so I was 10 minutes late to the appointment and then I stood in line for 10 more minutes and by the time I made it to the front they told me I was too late and they wouldn't see me. I explained that traffic was bad and I had been standing in line for a while plus they had an error on their end on Saturday and I accommodated but the receptionist didn't seem to care so needless to say I should have listened to the advice I received in the first place. read more
