I don't usually leave reviews, but I had to share our disappointing experience at Petco Banfield Vet Services in Millbury, MA. A family member brought in our dog for a routine appointment and was treated with a surprising lack of professionalism and respect. Instead of offering supportive, clear communication, the veterinarian--who had red glasses, a red beard, and short strawberry blonde hair--spoke in an overly clinical, condescending tone that made her feel talked down to for being honest about the dog's care. To make matters worse, the follow-up communication from staff was abrupt and unprofessional, adding unnecessary stress to an already frustrating visit. Pet owners should never feel shamed or belittled for trying to do what's right. We expected compassion and guidance--not judgment and ego. We won't be returning. read more

This was my first time here, but it was a great experience. My usual vet could not get my cat in for over a month and she was having symptoms of a UTI, so I couldn't wait. They were able to get her in the next day! She did have a bad UTI and she is 15 years old so I was quite worried. We also found out she had Hyperthyroidism!!! She is now on meds for both (thyroid meds for the rest of her life). I was also able to go in with her. It was my first time there so they waived the office visit fee!! It was still quite expensive, but most vets are. They listened to me and my cat is on the mend now. I like this place. read more

Unprofessional and useless. I made an appointment online for my cat on Wednesday; they called and confirmed it on Thursday; but Friday morning, the day of the appointment, they unceremoniously cancelled, blaming their online system. If true, that makes their entire business model of booking clients useless. This meant a more expensive emergency visit. I don't know what the real reason was, but they can't be trusted with your pet, if they can't be trusted with their word and their own systems are unreliable. Don't go there. If I could give zero stars I would my dog had been a patient at banfield in the past. I had nothing but issues, any time I would call because she needed to be seen, they would tell me they can't see my dog and would make me wait 2WEEKS for an appt. She also went there for a physical (I had to drop her off and pick her up later mind you) and she got fleas while she was there!!!! They took no responsibility for this, and blamed ME for bringing fleas into their facility! The last straw was when I asked for them to give her the bordatella vaccine as she was being boarded. I saw the technician give it to her, however it was NEVER documented in her chart!!!! I had to have family pick her up at the boarding facility to go and get ANOTHER vaccine that she didn't need due to their negligence. My parents still use Banfield (I will never step foot in there again) and brought their dog in for a dental today. They were told he needed an extraction and wanted $900 to pull ONE tooth! When they said they couldn't afford that, they were rudely told to "start saving your money, he needs it out, and he needs two other extractions so add that on too". Mind you, they said this in front of a bunch of other people Do yourself a favor and check out Abbott's, they are very accommodating, I always get a same day or next day appt and most importantly, my dogs don't shake with fear going there!!!! Went there for my cats physical and I really like how polite and friendly the staffs are. Their procedure during this pandemic is well handles. The vet tech took my Pixie in for the exam and the vet would call us after their examination to make her report. I'm just happy my cat is healthy and well read more

It's never easy to make a decision like euthanization. My 11 year Dixiekitty was suffering from kidney failure & the kind folks of Banfield helped ease her pain for the last time today. They let me pay first ( I knew I wouldn't be easy to deal with after ), be with Dixie for last loves & kisses, and hold her while she was anesthetized. There were kind words & quick actions -- and although I am sad, I am very grateful to the staff. read more

There's nothing to complain about! They're great! Always super friendly and reassuring. The front staff has a great way with my dogs. And a huge benefit is that my dogs don't freak out when I bring them in, because Banfield is inside PetSmart and we pass toys and treats to get there. They don't get worked up in anticipation of going to the vet. read more

My pets have always been family to me so needless to say, I'm super picky and protective. I took my cat and kitten in for a standard check-up yesterday. Unfortunately, my kitten needs dental surgery and is underweight. My ragdoll is 2 pounds overweight. As they share food (nothing I do prevents them from switching off on their bowls), it's a real issue to ensure the kitten gains weight after the surgery and my ragdoll looses the pounds he needs to in order to be at a healthy weight. An hour and half later, left with a ton of questions answered. It was so nice the amount of time, suggestions and compassion offered. read more

This place is amazing! Finally a vet that truly cares about your pet and you! They just extracted all of my 14 y/o dogs teeth and a full cleaning on my coonhound pup. Both pets were so well taken care of. The employees are all happy and accommodating. Place is very clean also! read more

One star should mean terrible with this place. Do not go there if you love or even like your pet. Vet never came out to talk to me. Said my dog has allergies, but is gagging, hacking and sounds like a goose on steroids. Only gave him cough medicine. He's 12 and has a heart murmur. Called back a week later and said he's not doing better can you give him something else. No, he has to have x-rays because the vet thinks it's only allergies and you'll have to wait 18 days for that. I don't think they even have a vet there. read more

We took our 1 year old dog here for her check up appointment three days ago. Long story short, she needed three shots and gave my four pound dog ALL THREE at once. This resulted in a severely bad reaction, causing her body to go into a very scary seizure. She had to spend the night in the ICU. We almost lost her. When they called back to check up on her shots that she received the day before, we informed her what had happened. All they had to say was sorry & not to mention, they were being EXTREMELY sketchy telling me they "couldn't pull up" my dog's records. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. I want to avoid any other animals getting hurt. Extremely unprofessional and clearly lack knowledge towards the medicine of animals. Time to find a new vet! read more

Everyone here is wonderful. My little girl Tula as chronic kidney disease so her says are numbered. I switched to banfield to get her on a wellness plan. Everyone from the front desk to the vets are amazing - they are knowledgeable, kind and patient. I never feel rushed and get my (many) questions answered thoroughly. Excellent staff, doctors are incredible. My dog is aggressive and they worked with me to get him seen without a problem. I did not have to wait, they checked us in and saw us right away. Accurate diagnosis, treated us very well and made what is normally a tough experience quite pleasant. I have used Banfield for years and they are the best of the best in my book. Taking your pet to the vet is stressful and worrisome, they are caring, empathetic, and make sure everyone is comfortable. read more

I brought my dog here for a free check up appt. almost 300.00 later - now I'm trying to get a refill of the medicine they prescribed to help my partially paralyzed dog walk far enough to go to the bathroom. Three days, three phone calls and now I'm sitting here waiting for the prescription to be refilled only to be told I can only get one refill. Do they think my dog is not going to be paralyzed after 11 years? Oh- I get it- I need another appt. We and ours pets are nothing but a dollar sign to their bottom line. read more

I would absolutely give one star if I could. Do NOT bring your pet here if you care about their health. They gave my four pound chihuahua multiple shots at a time for the first time, and they didn't even tell me. She had an allergic reaction and went into shock. She had a seizure and had to be rushed to Tufts. She had to stay overnight in the ICU. Almost killed my dog and cost me $1000. Never coming here again. read more

I wanted to write an update to Millbury Banfield and in particular, Dr. Van Buskirk. I lost my senior boxer in December and we saw the vet right before he passed. In the end, he passed of heart issues (common in boxers) and what I appreciated the most is Dr. Van Buskirk called the day she received the fax from Tufts that he had passed. She gave her condolences and reassured me we did the best we could for him. I only had my senior boxer for 2 years and was a crabby pants when it came to the vets. Dr. Van Buskirk always took the extra time and patience to deal with my old man. As did most of her vet techs :) They always said he was great (which I knew a was a slight lie, but that's ok, he was my old crabby pants!) Never once did the vet get irritated with him and always took the extra time with his visits. Even when I thanked her for taking that time, she said it was her pleasure and all vets would have done the same. That is where she is wrong; how I came to choose her over the other vets was because the others didn't take that extra time. That spoke volumes to me and want everyone to know this is and will always be appreciated! I also received a sympathy card from the Banfield Milbury team and appreciate the kind gesture. We still see Dr. Van Buskirk for our other boxer and will continue to see her and her team. read more

This happen back in 2012. my cat was about 4-6 months old. (I still have her) Dr. Jonathan Augusto, was the vet there who examend My cat, told me he needs to take her in the back room for some shots. I agreed, trusting him with well.. my life. my little girl is my life. as i waiting in one of the rooms, i heard very loud meowing, almost like screaming... and then i proceeded to go threw that back door, i knew it was my cat. i was stopped and shoved back into my room by a tech that said "YOU CANNOT COME BACK HERE" me in a panic "Why is my cat screaming whats going on!?!?!?" (So out of character. she loved everyone, everything. supper friendly) and one of the techs replied, "shes not cooperating with her shots" and she pretty much ordered me to have a seat and closed the door. i sat down, scared. i started to cry. the Dr came back in with my cat. He was bleeding all up and down his arms from scratches. and bite marks. (NEVER BIT ANYONE NOR SCRATCHED ANYONE!) and she had some loose hair coming out of her back. as if you were to brush an animal and leave the hair on top of there coat. she was not brushed. she was obviously fighting this DR, for what reason ill never know. i asked what happened. he left the room as soon as he handed me my cat. no one came back into the room for about 10 mins. a tech came in with my paper work and said pretty much nothing expect have a good day. Still in sock i leave the room and go up to pay my bill. then shopped around the store bought my cat a cat tree and drove home. she did not leave this cat tree for 4 days straight. she was terrified to even move. she USE to be a sweet caring cat.. cuddles.. kisses.. purring. She now bites.. scratches.. hisses.. and doesnt let anyone touch her including myself. i rescued her from an unstable home. and we had such a close bond. before i went to this vet.. i will always love my little girl.. but this is NOT who she was when she went into see this doctor. and i kick myself in the butt everyday for letting what happen, happen. i was young. and had trust in these people to care for her.. she is now going to be 5.. still miss ol grumpy mean pants. please, do not bring your pet here. i am now going to RT 20 animal clinic. read more

I moved to Worcester in the fall and hadn't selected a vet yet when my dog was attacked by a cat I was fostering. (She escaped her enclosure; he's 8 lbs.) He was scratched a lot all over, including his cornea and eyelid, so he was crying blood. Needless to say, I was very concerned. I quickly called several vet offices in Worcester that were recommended on various websites, but nobody had any openings except the VNA in Westborough, which I'd heard was quite pricey from a neighbor who takes her dog there. When I called Banfield, I was glad to hear that if I came as a walk-in, I'd be able to have my dog seen relatively soon. I headed over there, and I think we waited maybe a half hour or an hour before we were seen. Whatever it was, it didn't seem extremely long. The people at the front desk, the vet tech, and the Dr. were all friendly and good with my dog. The vet used a fluorescent dye and black light to see the severity of the scratch to my dog's cornea. While it was more than superficial, he thought it would probably heal on its own. He prescribed antibiotics and an antibiotic eye ointment to prevent infection. I was quite pleased that all in all, this little emergency only cost me about $120, especially given that he had not had an initial exam there before! First of all, they are very professional and friendly. Great service, the doctor was great with my cats, as well as the assistant. Just be careful what service they give, the bill can go up quickly. I was there for vaccine shots, and I ended up paying for physical exams as well. Almost 100$ more than expected. They had physicals only 4 months ago, you would think that they would see that in the cats file. read more

I have a regular vet but I took my dog here for a dental consult due to the cost, it was half the price that my vet quoted me. We met with Dr. Jonathan Augusto who did a full exam on my dachshund. He has a history of allergic reactions to medications which was a concern of mine with him being put under anesthesia. He also said my pet was overweight which he is not, and never has been a day in his life. Once we were walking out of the exam room, I asked the vet if he would be the one performing the procedure, and he answered "sure." I was stunned for getting such a sarcastic comment in response. I didn't get ANY instructions from the tech about his procedure. (ie: no food or water after midnight, ect..) She simply scheduled the appointment with attitude and kinda rolled her eyes at me like I was a bother. Umm I wouldn't want someone like that working on my dog! I asked my own vet if he should be pre medicated for this, and we got into a long discussion. He told me for one, Banfield has their techs do the dental cleanings, not the vet, which is part of the reason for the cost difference. If your dog has periodontal disease, the vet should be doing it! Then they just so happen to call you while the dog is under anesthesia and tell you they need extractions and time is limited so they put the pressure on you to make a decision right then and there which can cost additional HUNDREDS of dollars. (I know because I've already had one of my dogs teeth done here) My own vet told me he would rather me go to the vet down the street from him that to refer anyone to Banfield. Needless to say, I am going to pay the extra cost and go to my own vet. You get what you pay for! Would not recommend this place. read more

Their doctors are okay, but the ladies at the front desk are always moody, rude, short with people, and they never smile. I've put up with it for some time, but after my last experience with inquiring about my dog's ear infection, where they were rude and unhelpful and couldn't even fit him in for a quick check up until the following week, I am officially all done using them and found a great, friendly local vet to use instead who expressed concern and suggested he be seen first thing in the AM. My dog is my family and I will not bring him where he is not s priority. read more

I am very very disappointed and angry with how Banfield treated me after diagnosing my fur baby with kidney failure. The main goal for them seemed to be about money and not about my baby. After every test they did she made sure to say the price, and though it's nice to know what I'm looking at for a bill it would have also been nice if the woman could have some compassion and sympathy. Knowing that no matter what we did from there I would lose my baby. Instead of being sympathetic she rushed me to make a decision on euthanasia for another $500. Needless to say I paid my bill, and I took my little love home. I brought her to a place with compassion, and she is now in heaven. My heart is heavy, I think the people at Banfield are absolutely inconsiderate of the owners feelings and instead of the health and happiness of an animal they care more about their over priced services. I am not sure I'll ever have another pet, but I know this if I do I surely will NOT be bring it here. read more

Offically done using them as a vet. I called about my birds breathing as he was having trouble they told me they couldnt do an emergency visit and I would have to wait three weeks. I'm all done using you guys even though you are the cheapest. Your rude staff over the phone is most unwelcome in an already stressful situation. I will pay whatever I need to to ensure my birds are taken care of from now on. Cheaper doesn't mean better. read more

I used Banfield at other locations last summer when my cat had a broken leg went to Northborough and Woburn they were amazing unfortunately Millbury Sucks I have never been able to get a urgent appointment I am giving this a bad rating is because of the attitude I got when trying to make an appointment. which I never got. I had a rescue cat for a few months then showed all the signs of wet FIP I know there is not a lot anyone can do I was looking for a confirmation and help her on her way ( I have been involved with cat rescue for over 30 years). The attitude was disgusting, I said what I thought was wrong with my cat the girl I spoke to (Sarah) had no idea what I was talking about said they had no appointments asked if I could go on the cancellation list she said ok but I should take the cat to tufts I said I could not afford tufts and if the cat did have FIP the out come would be the same she took my name and hung up on me. I called back in the afternoon got Sarah again same attitude no cancellations asked if there were any appointment at all she said no told me to go to Tufts asked if there was any appointments for the next day again NO asked about Wednesday she said NO! no conversation no pleasantries just annoyance and one word answer NO I asked when the next available appointment she said April!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I explained my cat would not live that long. I did call other locations and the staff were wonderful so sincere and apologetic that they couldn't help me I did get an appointment eventually for the cat to be euthanized but it was too late. The vets at Millbury are wonderful but the attitude of this person was disgusting. read more

I love the vet she was awesome and expains everything and really cares about animals. My 1 yr old pup was goin to southbridge vet and when i went here for a second opnion. NOT ONLY did my dog not have to go through surgery but also I saved 500 dollars when they just gave me a 31 dollar cream! also there is a coupon for first time exam FREE online search :D DEF recommend this vet! they have insurance as well! read more

If you have a Wellness Plan and don't mind driving to Milbury, MA like we were doing (driving from So. CT), we highly recommend Dr. Augusto. We had been going to this Banfield for many years. Dr. Augusto is AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL, genuinely nice, and extremely knowledgeable. We don't trust anyone else with our Great Danes. We have had 4 Dane's; 2 are still alive, and 2 that passed away of old age; both at 13 years old. We attribute our Danes long and healthy lives directly to the care and experience Dr. Augusto. The staff here is always very friendly, efficient, patient, and helpful. I can't say enough nice things about all of hospital staff. The Petsmart staff is great too. We recently moved to Southern CT, however on some occasions we have driven 4 hours (roundtrip) to this location JUST to have Dr. Augusto see our Dane for more serious healty issues and because he ALWAYS answers ALL our questions. When we have an appointment we are seen at that time and not kept waiting for 30-60 minutes without an explaination and apology. There are 4 Banfields within 45 minutes of our house, the North Haven location misdiagnosed one of our dogs, TWICE, and mostly ignored the primary ailment and symptom our Dane was having and ended up costing us $600 for unnecessary tests and x-rays, not to mention a day off from work for an appointment to see a "specialist". read more

6 years ago I had to change vets due to location. This was not an easy thing to do considering my dog was 11 at the time, with lots of issues and knew his vet since he was a puppy. But she was moving and location at Banfield was much easier. I was referred to Dr. Augusto from a friend of mine and it was the BEST decision I have ever made. Since the day I met Dr. Augusto I fell in love with the Dr he was. He treated my Tobey like he had known him his whole life. It is now 6 years later and Tobey sadly had to be put down. He lived and AMAZING 17 years plus and Dr Augusto was with him every step of the way. He said Tobey lived such a great long life because of how much I loved him, but I know his wonderful care and knowledge helped him as well. Someday when I find the strength and my heart is ready to love another dog (it's only been 6 days) I will absolutely go back to Dr. Augusto. I look forward to the day I see him again and have another new little dog for him to take care of and love like he did my Tobey. If you are looking for a compassionate, loving, caring, knowledgeable, open, wonderful Vet, Banfield in Millbury is the way to go....and of course ask for Dr Augusto. :) read more
