Love this place! I've been twice just popping in while walking by with friends visiting the city and they've loved it too. I will fondly remember my afternoon at Bangers and Lace, as my friend and I were desperately walking around Wicker Park on a Thursday afternoon in search of ANY bar that was open. Why is Whiskey Business a Cheesie's now with inaccurate hours listed on its website, I'll never know. But back to B&L - Thursday Happy Hour time was the perfect vibe for myself and my friend to celebrate her birthday while playing hooky. We bopped around and did some shopping earlier before stopping here, and what good graces that we did! The bartender, Steve, was very fun to chat with but also largely left us to enjoy the gorgeous ambiance. The bar is large, there's a pool table, they had Price is Right playin on a screen with some chill music happening. It was just perfection! I know the picture isn't great, but I took it because I was just overcome with the positive vibe - something hard to photograph. I got the Middlebrow Public Beer (Nitro), and wow I loved the foamy head as it was so creamy and aromatic. And the beer itself was super enjoyable for a chilly night. Very drinkable, as described! In my mind, though, the real hidden gym is the delicious Smashburger that is the ultimate item during happy hour. The seats in the back feel a bit more intimate and there's a pool table there too. They have a whole cooler of Miller high life if that's your thing as well as a selection of hot dogs/sausages. The cheese curds with giardiniera ranch were really good. I enjoyed the Wild Mohave cocktail on draft, made with mezcal and mango. The draft beer selection is vast, and some of them are real strong too with upwards of 10% abv. I tried the Early Leaf which was an IPA with 8.4% abv. That never came (though its replacement, Kite String, is great). On our first visit to Division Street thereafter, we saw another location! It was juicy and had so much flavor. Just a well-balanced burger. It was a little bit bigger than a slider but for $10, I'm not complaining. And I know this gets thrown a lot, but after speaking to the door person, they said we would have the next table - but decided to give it to a group of other individuals that walked in. I was in the Wicker Park area and looking for a nice stout to enjoy with the chilly fall weather. I absolutely love the aesthetic of this place. Definitely somewhere that has a great mix of date night or group hangouts. They have some rare beers on tap, like the Pipeworks The Final Act (2017), among other solid local favorites like Maplewood's Son of Juice. Sometimes, it was a bit difficult to flag down a bartender for service as they were chatting in the corner. But my first time here, I didn't have any issues at all, so it's hit or miss. read more
