Great dish offerings, large portions and authentic taste. I had the duck curry and if you love duck dishes I highly recommend! The duck was crispy and very well seasoned. Add red curry sauce to it with a good amount of bell peppers and diced pineapples, this dish is perfect. Other restaurants usually serve half of a roast duck on their duck dishes, no, not this place. For $17ish you get the whole duck which is amazing and I got two dinners out of this dish. The spring rolls is great. Service was average for a party of one on off dining hours but the table next to me was struggling to get serviced by their waiter. read more

This is the best Thai food in metro Detroit, this business is also family owned and I think makes a difference when is comes to their amazing costumer service. Everything is delicious on the menu my favorite is the Bangkok 96 rice which has chicken and shrimp. I also recommend checking out their sister restaurant in the Detroit Shipping Company, which has a smaller menu that features other items then their restaurant. 10/10 give this place a try! read more

Really great Thai fusion place on my neck of the woods. Had the Pud Thai and loved it.....the first time. It was very flavorful, took it to go and my wife and I were able to split it and have plenty left over for another full meal. My second experience wasn't as great, partly my expectations were so high. The food was still plentiful but less flavorful. The hostess was very chipper and charismatic. We got take out from here for Dinner and Lunch and both times, we were recommended, Pad Thai. It's not an actual Thai food that's why I took one star out but for the price and the amount of food you get, I wouldn't mind coming back here. They do serve lunch deals on Saturdays as well and the place gets pretty quickly occupied. I am torn on this place. Getting to the place is not so bad as it is off Telegraph Road. Leaving the parking lot, though, can be dangerous. The parking lot runs up on the sidewalk without a barrier, which is not good for pedestrians but good, I guess for drivers, because if there were one there you couldn't get out of the parking lot. It is dangerous even during light traffic to exit, so, be careful. The food is good. It smells nice in the place. The greeting situation is a little strange. You kind of get picked up by a waiter or waitress and dropped off at a table. You then wait for service which might come right away or it might not. Eventually the service begins. On both occasions our server was somewhat in a good mood but I wouldn't use the word 'happy'. The first time I was there I ordered the 'Fire Duck' or some such thing. It looked great on paper. When I got it the duck was burnt and dry. That wouldn't have been so bad because I enjoy roasted meat but it was altogether dry and the 'Fire' was apparently referring to a noxious concoction of spices that rendered the meal inedible. I enjoyed the sides and some Satay chicken. On our second visit we ordered the Satay chicken, the pronunciation of which was quickly corrected by the server, but speed in relation to the Satay stopped there because it took some time for it to show up. The seating is packed together with the unpleasant experience of having to nearly share your table with other diners nearby. This can be okay unless you seated next to rude, loud and overbearing folks in which case that's the meal right there. We can return to the Satay for a moment - it is served with a small black stove in which a piece of Sterno is merrily burning along. The idea is to place the Satay on the little stove and cook it a little more. That's great in theory, however, having a burning hot black stove in the middle of a crowded, tiny table presents a rather challenging safety situation. As it was I burned the inside of my right arm. Perhaps that was punishment for not pronouncing 'Satay' to the satisfaction of our server. After some reflection it could also have been a mark of honor not unlike the dragons burned into the forearms of Kwai Chang Caine in the tv teleseries 'Kung Fu'. I didn't get any identifiable shape, however, just a red mark. - and yes, the teleseries was set in China not Thailand so my cross reference may not work here. The meal was fine but tasted better as leftovers the next day. It was supposed to be tangy, you see, but it was overly sweet as we ate it. Apparently mellowing in the cold, darkness of the refrigerator brought out the proper flavor. One of my more interesting dining experiences. I'll be going back even if it's just to keep me on my dining toes. read more

BF took me here for lunch after our visit to DeBuck's Corn Maze. We strolled in around 2pm on a Saturday and were seated right away. If you're eating in, they give you a bowl of hot and sour soup the moment you sit down. I had my standard pad see ew, which is a little different here. They use thinner broad noodles, which I liked just as much as the thicker noodles that I'm used to. The portions here are HUGE. I ended up with at least another meal (which the BF is going to end up eating). We also each got a Thai Iced Tea, which came with a giant dollop of whipped cream. Yummy! Service was pretty attentive, until the very end when we were trying to pay. Our waitress just never came by to take our credit cards! So my regular Thai place was closed for the holidays, I had a major crave so went to this place tonight. Yup, as other reviewers said it, this is NOT Thai food. It is more like Chinese food in some curry sauce. I got the V3 with chicken in medium spice. It was so bland, I had to add some red chili powder at home. It also lacked salt. Glad I tried it as it looks like the locals love it (place was packed with a lot of take out). So if you are new to Thai food and can't handle spice, try this place out. This place is amazing!!!! We came upon a recommendation that this was the best Thai food in Michigan and I agreeeeee! Genevieve (the owner) is a phenomenal person, very sweet and passionate about food and her restaurant. She is very personable and will adapt to whatever your needs are. I'm vegan and she was able to make amazing vegan Thai vegetable tofu curry and pad Thai for me, as well as fresh spring rolls and more for my non-vegan companions. It's difficult to come across a chef and owner whose so dedicated to customer satisfaction and health. Her meals were not overly seasoned and were beautifully presented. The pad Thai was not oily like most places, and the fried rice with chicken and shrimp was great according to my dad. Bangkok 96 also sells their own packages curry sauce powders, miso soup powder, and sriracha that is tailored to viets, Koreans, and Chinese tastes. Stopped in after not being here for years. They have expanded and the extra seating was much needed. The service was fast and excellent. Menu prices where what you would except to find in a Thai restaurant. Our food was very good. Not the best I've had but good and fresh. They give you an insane amount of food so you will leave with doggie bags. My only complaint was the fly's. We sat next to a window and it had tons of flys I'm not talking one or two but about 10. The first restaurant I ever ate at in Dearborn was Bangkok 96. Two years later, I still have days where I decide "I'm gonna go eat at Bangkok today". Consistency is very underrated, except when it's constantly good. I've never had a bad meal at Bangkok 96. The place is always packed around lunch (you have to understand the optimal time to arrive if you don't want to wait). It isn't very large and is set up to be a little tight in terms of space but the service is good, consistently. You eat your meal, pay at the counter and head on out. And now, the food: delicious. I won't say it's the best Thai food I've ever eaten but I'm always happy with my first and last bite (so you know it isn't just the hunger talking). Probably the best Thai place in the area. It's fresh and most importantly, flavorful. I went to a couple other Thai places nearby and it was surprisingly bland. The curry sauces were watered down and when I asked for my food to be spicy it barely tingled my tongue. At Bangkok the spice level was legit. The service is always friendly and courteous. This is my go to place. I wish they offered Halal meat so I could bring my family and friends that are a little more strict on the whole Halal thing. read more

I really don't know why so many fans of this place feel the need to bash other Thai places all over Yelp. I think it's a bit ridiculous myself to be frank. It also really builds up expectations for this restaurant, so much so that this place would have to be stellar in every aspect to even come close to meeting them. I don't think the devoted clientele is doing this place any favors in that regard. All I know is I have eaten here, compared it for myself and I am more at a loss than ever. It's not uber cheap, the portions are not necessarily bigger than other places and the flavors are not any better. The wait is ridiculous. The place also seems a bit crazed, overly crowded and a bit run down. Also WTF is up with charging for soda refills? Stick with water. I tried the chicken satay which was really good, I will give them that. Ditto on the hot and sour. It's great. The pad se'ew had meh flavor and the noodles were unimpressive texture wise. The ratios of noodle/meat/veg also seemed off or maybe they just did not feel the need to give as much meat here as I am used to seeing elsewhere. It was a big portion of ummm noodles, which sucked because it was clearly the weakest element in this dish. I also think Wally is right about the too salty thing because I drank a lot of liquids all day after I ate this dish and my rings were tight on my fingers, generally that only happens when I eat too much salt. The green curry is much better than the noodles but maybe as a newbie they did not give me as much portion wise as a regular, this was just the usual amount to my eye. Based on the glowing assertions I came in expecting massive piles of deliciousness at rock bottom prices. This was plenty for sure but not significantly more than I get elsewhere. The flavors were right on in the curry, nice but not the stellar -wow- I was hoping for with all the build up. I would order this again if I came back but I would be wary about any of the noodle dishes. The service was charming with the traditional attire and whatnot but I did not find the great value and appeal here that others seem to be devoted to. It was good enough Thai but like I have mentioned I just don't get the obsessive loyalty that this restaurant apparently inspires. Let's knock this one out. I think the host dude needs to learn how to iron and tuck in his shirt. Older looking restaurant but nice enough. Might have been a KFC at one time. Prices are not cheap. I think they're a little high for the look of the place. Service was fast and friendly at 5p on a Wednesday. Parking was easy. Got the Shrimp Phad Thai and Tom Yum soup. The soup was excellent. Great aromatic flavors to please your senses. It was light and very satisfying. I could have eaten another bowl. I might just stop here again and get some of this soup and a couple spring rolls for a light meal next time. The Phad Thai was mild even though I ordered medium plus. The flavor was very good though. Could have used more peanut butter, fish sauce and maybe some hot oil to kick it up. The portion was enormous though. It was enough for three people. If you get this, I'd recommend getting some soup, do some sharing and save yourselves some money. You'll be able to eat out more often. read more

Why does it always have to be me. All my friends out there seem to think that this is the greatest Thai restaurant around. It's lined up out the door at lunch time. My experience was not that good. I measure Thai restaurants by their Pad Thai and their Pad Se' Ewe. This is what I love and I think that subtlety in the execution of either of these dishes is a good indication of how good a Thai Restaurant is. When you finally get a seat at Bangkok 96 you're quickly serves some Hot and Sour soup. I'll admit as most other reviewers do .. this is a very good soup. It's thick and has a very robust flavor unlike some of the more watery Hot and Sour soups that I've had before. My group of four all had different items off the menu, one curry, 2 other standard meat and vegetable dishes and me... I tried the Pad Se' Ewe. I ordered it with chicken because that's how I like it. The presentation was good looking on a large white plate. I took my first bite and yech!. Whereas I generally expect to have a mild, multidimensional, sweet sauce, here I received a mouthful of SALT. I've seriously never had a dish that had this salty of a taste in my entire life. I think most of the bad taste had to do with the fact that so much of the sauce was absorbed up by the the small rice noodles. When I took a bite of the chicken, where the sauce really didn't absorb into the meat, it tasted reasonably good. The broccoli was cooked just right and was accented well by the sauce, but the noodles.... just terrible. I think the level of salt made me hold water the rest of the day. All the other members of my party enjoyed their meals, but I just couldn't. I'll give this place another shot since people whose opinions I respect seem to love it, but I was seriously disappointed with my first excursion here. read more

We pulled up and the entire parking lot was packed but surprisingly got inside and were seated immediately. The restaurant was a bit dark, but otherwise comfortable. For being a packed house service was extremely fast. The staff was knowledgeable when I was asking questions about their gluten free options. I ordered chicken pad thai and was so blow away by how full of flavor it was. There are days that I taste it and want to drive the almost two hours it takes to get there.
