A truly excellent Thai restaurant with authentic Thai fare like pud/pad thai and larb; also excellent beverages like Thai iced tea (that they make there fresh on the spot). Excellent and prompt service, you order at a counter but they bring out the food to you. Also very expansive/spacious dining area with many seats/chairs and tables. They also have a street food mini restaurant on Peterboro in Detroit's Chinatown. Highly recommended!

Very first visit ever, absolutely marvelous so much great food. We started with a few appetizers Crispy Rolls 5 pcs Ground chicken mixed with bean thread noodles and onions wrapped in rice paper and deep fried. Served with cucumber garlic sauce. Outstanding Wowed a must try . Spicy Crab Wontons 5 pcs Chili paste cream cheese with crab meat wrapped in wonton skins. Served with sweet & sour sauce. Perfect heat for those who love spicy . Chicken Satay 5 pcs Chicken skewer mixed with a coconut milk curry batter deep fried. Served with peanut sauce and a cucumber sauce. These hit different then any other place OMG so addictive with the Peanut Butter Sauce for dipping . Finally a Big Tom Kha just look at the mega amount of delicious Chicken, only $8 for a quart mega Deal perfect for sharing. Thanks Ms Nora for taking great care of us. Now gotta go back to try dishes other than appetizers. #bangkok96 @bangkok96 #thaifood #chickensatay #crispyrolls #tomkhasoup #spicywontons #thairestaurant #downriverfriendseat

Bangkok 96 has changed their business mode a bit since the pandemic. They were takeout only for a while, but now it's operating more as a counter service restaurant to accommodate those who want to dine in as well as their many takeout customers. I was pleased to find that they still offer a fabulous birthday discount. If you show your ID on your birthday, you can get one entree free with purchase of another entree. We tried the pud Thai and the fried rice. Both were delicious and plentiful. I also ordered a side of peanut sauce and received a generous portion. While this is not the best Thai in the area flavorwise in my opinion, it is very reliable.

I cooked some homemade pad thai and wanted to compare against one of the local Thai restaurants. Chicken Gang Garee - I ordered the medium and it was spicier than I anticipated. Still great though, a good balance of sweet, savory and spicy. Would get again for sure. Chicken Pud Thai - It's overly sweet, bordering on too sweet. The sourness doesn't seem to come from Tamarind - there was no fruity complexity so they probably use a vinegar base. I ordered the mild but there was no kick at all, definitely need to get a medium for an appropriate spice level. I couldn't taste much if any fish sauce. Most likely it's there, just muted against how sweet the dish was. This isn't the best pad thai around. Bangkok 96 isn't the best Thai food I've had, but it's still quite good. The portions they give are also huge - the two dishes lasted me and my wife almost three meals each.

So, my wife and I are stuck in Detroit due to the recent IT crisis with the airlines. I have no words. Anyways, we were fortunate to get a hotel room and searched for Asian restaurants in the area to eat for dinner and came across Bangkok 96. The name makes me giggle because of the way restaurants all over Asia name themselves. We walked to the restaurant (10 minute walk) and saw a very simple restaurant. Nothing opulent or fancy. We also noticed that there was no delivery service available. Just carry out or take your carry out orders to their tables inside. You order at the counter and they give you a number and they bring your food in take out containers but you can eat there as well. The environment is organized, not cluttered and clean. It wasn't crowded when we got there around 5:30pm. However as the minutes ticked on by, it was jamming! And we got our food quickly. We ordered the Pad Thai with chicken dish. So good! The right amount of fish sauce and sugar and chicken and noodles. My wife would have liked more bean sprouts. LOL. This is the best Pad Thai I have ever had. Hands down! And judging by the looks and smiles of the people around us, everything there was delicious. I talked with the owner ( sorry, I forget his name) and he was very nice and friendly and thankful for the kind words. Check out this place. You will not be disappointed. Yummy!!!

During the height of the pandemic, I mainly picked up meals from local restaurants, to support local businesses. As the pandemic stretched beyond a year, I've continued to eat locally but also ventured beyond the nearby suburbs a few times a month. I've always wanted to dine here, when I worked locally, but never found the time during my busy lunch breaks. The restaurant is located on Telegraph, just south of Michigan Ave. The restaurant was not opened for dine in, instead it converted this location to temporarily offer take-out. To maintain safety, orders can be picked up from one of two windows. On a week-end afternoon, the parking lot was filled with vehicles, its owners waiting for their orders to be prepared. The menu is extensive. There is a variety of starters including rolls, soups and salads. As well, noodles, seafood, duck and barbecue courses are available as entrées. I was craving Pad Thai, thin rice noodles with beef, egg, green onions, crushed peanuts, in a fragrant lemon-scented sauce. I loved the overall flavors of the dish but thought the beef was a bit overcooked. I also ordered the curry (half) duck, roast duck with pineapples, tomatoes, and green peppers in a sweet and spicy curry sauce. So delicious but the duck was neither meaty nor plentiful. I was hoping for papaya salad or Thai coconut rice but neither were available (most Thai restaurants in the area do not offer them either). There were a number of cashiers at the time of my visit but I was ignored as I waited patiently at the window.

My daughter was passing through Dearborn and stopped at Bangkok 96 to get us takeout. It was tasty. We got the tom yum soup, Bangkok 96 fried rice, and the Three's Company. It was flavorful and filled with veggies and also meat, chicken and shrimp. I'd go back if in the area again.

Wouldn't go here again. Food was overly expensive, wasn't very good, portions sucked, and they got my order wrong.

    Is it halal?

No, there are vegetarian options though

Is the Chicken Pud Thai gluten free?

Yes. Most Thai restaurants use rice noodle for their pad Thai dishes. I haven't found a Thai restaurant that uses gluten noodles for pad Thai yet. I am gf as well and that's always a concern anywhere I eat.

A disappointing experience…read more Ambiance - Empty restaurant on a Wednesday at dinner time. Uncluttered, but not necessarily super clean or inviting. They were playing these sad and drawn out country music ballands that felt a little bizarre, but no big deal. You can dine in, but it's not table service, other than them bringing your food out initially. Food - Metro Detroit has pretty standard Thai food restaurants across the board so price/flavor/quality/etc is similar at the best of the best all throughout Wayne County. I would consider Bangkok 96, SHINthai, Thai Vylai to be comparables. Unfortunately, La Thai Cuisine was nowhere near them for various reasons. For one, there was less protein (chicken) in the dinner, about half the amount other restaurants would give. The Tom Yum soup was nothing like a Tom Yum I've had anywhere else in and out of state. The color was much darker than I've ever seen and it tasted like they dumped a lot of chili powder in it. Did not finish. The tiny shrimp in it was off too. The worse part though was that the eggplant in the Gang Ped dinner had gone bad. The flesh was dark brown and had a strange texture and bad taste. It had to be noticeable and shouldn't have gone out to a customer. Service - It was clear that the woman working the counter was either new or maybe a relative just filling in for the night. Some basic questions had her disappearing to the back for answers. "Are the chicken wings breaded?", "Do you have wifi?" both got "let me check". (They do not have wifi, btw.) Anyways...I had tried to eat some of that eggplant thinking maybe the color was an exotic eggplant I hadn't tried before.. lol...it wasn't. Before leaving, I took my picked-over plates to the counter to clear my table and let the woman at the counter know that the eggplant had gone bad. She says, "I'll let them know." and disappears to the back. When she came back, she said nothing to me...no apology or offer to make things right, not even "have a nice night!" It was just weird. I was there for just under a hour and maybe two other people came in during that time to pick up orders.

So I decided to give them another shot, this time through DoorDash since my last issue was mostly service-related. That was a mistake. I ordered the "ramen creamy tom yum seafood." What I received was not even close. The containers leaked all over the bag, and once I separated everything out, it was obvious this dish was completely wrong. No ramen. No mussels. No crab. No egg. No cilantro. Just mushrooms and a few shrimp. That's it. At this price point, over $30, there is no excuse. This isn't a minor miss. This is an entirely different dish. What's worse is this doesn't feel like a one-off mistake. This feels like something they get away with because not everyone checks or leaves a review. If you're going to charge premium prices, you need to deliver what's actually on the menu. Right now, this place isn't doing that.

Their sign is easy to see as you drive by, but my friend did give me a heads up that their door was not obvious. You need to walk through a fence and then open a non deacript door. The artwork outside is awesome! When we walked in we received a friendly greeting and were quickly shown to our seats. We had made a reservation ahead of time and there was no delay to seat us upon our arrival. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders right away. I appreciated that they had multiple non alcoholic drinks and at a fair price. I started with the Thai Iced tea which was delicious, but I would have loved a glass 2x the size! We ordered multiple dishes to share amongst us. I did ask the server how many dishes they recommended that we order as I wasn't sure of the size. The items are brought out as they are made, so we had food being dropped off to is at random intervals. The only slight issue we experienced was when someone else tried to bring a plate of squid to our table. We let them know that we had not ordered it. They then went and talked to our server, who brought the squid back to our table. We also let them know that we had not ordered that dish. Our server did bring back our order slip and looked it over, and I believe at that point they realized that we really had not ordered that dish and just weren't rejecting it. I am not sure if it had been written wrong, communicated to the kitchen wrong, or what but we did have to state multiple times that we had not ordered it. The rest of our dishes arrived correctly. The crispy chive cakes were great, and the sticky spare ribs were AMAZING. The caramel glaze on the outside of the ribs was so good, and they were tender as well. The outside was super crispy. I would absolutely ordered these again. I would say that both of those dishes were only for 2 people. The sticky rice and jasmine rice were as to be expected, and I personally felt that the papaya salad was not as good as others I have had. The chilli noodles had an amazing broth and I would also recommend. Overall, I did enjoy our dinner but I am not sure that I would go out of my way to return. I am rounding up to 4 stars based on the sticly ribs alone, otherwise a 3.5 would be more fair. I have been hearing about Takoi for years, so maybe my epxections were too high but I was expecting a bit more.

Thai-Osha -- Where Laughter, Love, and Crab Rangoons Fill Your Soul…read more There are some places that feed more than just your appetite -- they feed your spirit. And Thai-Osha is one of those rare gems. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I wasn't just walking into another Thai restaurant. I was walking into someone's heart and soul. Someone's home. The space is cozy, welcoming, decorated in beautiful Thai decor, and intimate -- like a little sanctuary where you immediately feel at ease and ready for home cooking. But the real magic? That comes from the owner. Let me tell you about him. He greeted me like an old friend -- with the kind of warmth and joy that you can't fake. So Funny, charming, down-to-earth, and so full of light... he has this way of making you feel like you've known him forever. It's like you're not just a customer -- you're family. The kind of energy he brings is rare. You can feel it in the way he laughs, the way he connects, the way he sees people. His spirit is so vibrant and kind, it honestly feels contagious. I left with a full stomach and full heart and a smile I couldn't wipe off my face. That's the kind of business you want to support -- one that feels built on love. The service? Fast. Friendly. The whole staff radiates the same positive energy as the owner -- everyone just seems genuinely happy to be there, and that joy spills over to the customers. You don't feel like you're just being served -- you feel like you're being welcomed. And don't even get me started on the food. Every dish was an experience. The flavors? Out of this world. Fresh, authentic, deeply comforting -- the kind of food that takes you places and lingers in your memory. The crab rangoons? I'm still dreaming about them. I could have ate them all day. Home Made, Creamy, perfectly made -- I nearly cried. Everything we ordered was beyond amazing, and I have no doubt that anything you choose from that menu will blow you away. But honestly? Even if you didn't come for the food (though you absolutely should), come to meet and talk to him. Come meet the kind, hilarious, big-hearted owner who reminds you that people like him still exist in the world -- people who lead with love, who make strangers feel like friends, and who carry a light that lifts others just by being near them. In a world that feels fast, disconnected, and overstimulated -- Thai-Osha is a breath of fresh air. It's cozy. It's sincere. It's the kind of place you want to keep coming back to. You're truly missing out on something special -- the kind of special that fills both your stomach and your soul. Let's keep celebrating places like this -- the ones that remind us what kindness tastes like.

The chef came out, seated me and asked for my order. I went with my 2nd choice, F2 - Kow Pad Kra Praow with chicken ($13 @ lunch). This is a FRIED RICE dish. The dining area ambiance is rather spartan, and the (C)RAP MUSIC being played did not contribute to the Thai dining experience at all. My order came back QUICK and HOT. My initial reaction was that it just looked like a BIG PLATE of fried rice. Oh well, I tucked in, and the flavor was OK. A FEW pieces of white meat chicken, peppers and carrot slices were the only identifiable items in this BIG PLATE of fried rice. It was EDIBLE and FILLING, but that was all. NOTHING SPECIAL and certainly not the WOW factor I had expected from the glowing reviews. Total was $13.73 after tax.
