Peach Green Tea with Black Sugar Bubble

I was in a mood for a Banh mi sandwich and a bubble tea. When I Yelped a Vietnamese restaurant in Bay Ridge, Banh Mi Stop came up. The menu actually pleasantly surprised to see the varieties of Banh mi: Marinated five slices tofu, Crispy fried chicken, Crispy Tempura Shrimp and Tuna. For the Summer rolls: chicken, pork, mushroom and beef. There are also delicious rice bowl options. I decided on the Banh mi and bubble tea combo: grilled marinated chicken and peach green tea with black sugar bubble. The Banh mi was flavorful, bread crispy and generous chicken portion. The peach green tea was delicious and refreshing. All in all a delicious and quick post work meal. The meal was delivered and packed with care. I plan to visit Banh Mi Stop for an in house meal. Always a good sign when a place keeps the menu simple. This one mainly does Vietnamese banh mis, summer rolls, and salad bowls. While there are a decent number of items, most of them are just variations of bowls or sandwiches. They also have some classic cafe sides like fries, onion rings, and a few other things. It feels more like a casual cafe than a full sit down Vietnamese restaurant. You just order at the counter, find a seat, and eat. No need for table service or tipping. The salad bowls come with fresh lettuce and tomatoes that seem like they were just chopped to order. Nothing feels wilted or soggy and they add a good amount of pickled carrots to their bowls not only as a garnish but as a good portion of the salad. The protein options are solid with some unexpected ones like five spice mushrooms, deep fried shrimp, fried flounder, Italian sausage and pastrami. They also have the usual chicken, pork, and beef you'd expect at a Vietnamese spot. They've also got a decent dessert selection, including almond brittles.

A new Vietnamese sandwich shop opened in the neighborhood and I've been curious to check it out - so I finally did. Mi gente, if you're expecting to get a TRADITIONAL banh mi sandwich.... yeah no, this ain't the place for you. Then again, the sign clearly says "MODERN..." I got the grilled pork banh mi w/cilantro + a lil bit of jalapeño (never realized you had a CHOICE in getting the sandwich w/o cilantro so that was cool) and Lychee Bubble Tea. Granted, the banh mi was good but the taste and texture caught me a lil off guard: Seasoned pieces of grilled pork, iceberg lettuce, pickled carrots (idk but I wanted it to taste a lot more pickled), light mayo, cilantro & jalapeño The Lychee Bubble Tea didn't REALLY taste like Lychee but then again, I NEVER know how to order Bubble Tea so I admit, it could've been ME! Somebody teach me how to order this - please and thank you I ate my food inside the resturant. The lighting is bright and the colors go together - ocean blue + white. The food came out pretty quickly. All in all, the sandwich and tea were really good. If I want a razzle-dazzle banh mi, I'll definitely come here but for traditional, I'll continue to go to the spot on 86/87 and 4th (and remember to bring w/me). I'll definitely be back to make my way through the menu. I was left very intrigued

Hahn Mi Stop is cute, clean, and the staff is super friendly. I ordered the grilled chicken vermicelli salad and it was just okay. The chicken came in small crumb-like pieces instead of full slices, which felt a little skimpy. The salad was fresh and neatly packed but surprisingly did not include bean sprouts, which are usually a staple in Vietnamese vermicelli dishes. It was clean and light, just not the most flavorful or memorable. Still, it works if you need something quick and easy to grab on the go.

That was such a perfect idea. First thing we were there, and it was a warm and sultry morning at 6:30AM with the sun up to greet us along with a New York bridge adorning the scene to the south, with us eating outside on the sidewalk I could not imagine a better send off from this great world city. Bagels were a perfect breakfast and we sucked those back in a jiffy. Just as we were finishing, members of the US military, maybe national guardsmen, showed up in black SUVs right in front of us and parked. They got out, a gaggle of them and headed in for their bagels. Well that's something to remember and not an every day sight for us being from Canada, and added to the local flavour of this epic road trip.

I pulled up and I see "Mr" Bagels cafe. For Brooklyn, it sounds like pure class. I'm sure the owner must have a pinky ring. Walking inside, the bagel counter are front and center. To the left, is a coffee bar with multiple coffee choices. Nice looking spot. I ask for a Sesame Bagel with Cream Cheese. Would you like that toasted sir? Wait a second Years ago, I asked for my bagel toasted at Murrays Bagels in Chelsea. The guy behind the counter? He lost his mind! The next day, they put up a hand written sign: No Toasted Bagels So I'm always lerry when asking for extras. Except the bagel guy asked me so I feel relaxed. I pour myself a cup of delicious French Roast Coffee and my bagel is ready. The bagel is perfect. It has a nice chew, just a little too big but thats my personal taste. The cream cheese, even though it's plain, is very silky. Mr Bagels, thank you. Until we meet again.

I walk into a small shop, the large menu is front and center. I read on line what I wanted, the #6 - The How You Doin You're not finding this sandwich name in LA! This spot is pure Brooklyn, with some great sounding sandwiches. Trust me, I looked over the menu and wanted to try everything on the menu. The #6 was a fantastic choice, Fresh Brooklyn Italian bread with a perfectly Fried Chicken Cutlet and topped with Roasted Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella and completed with an Oil Balsamic drizzle. Cash only spot, that's ok. Take my money! I'm coming back for the Thursday Special, the Homemade Roast Beef and Melted Fresh Mozzarella sandwich. (How awesome does that sound?!)

I went with the #4 (Menny Special) and #7 (Che Si Dici). Both are very different, both are great. If you want something savory and warm- go with the #4. If you want something that's more 'Italian' and cold cut oriented with a hint of sweetness, go with the #7. Charlie's doesn't really overcomplicate their recipes. The menu is a bit long (given the different combinations), but that's because their experiments are tried and true. The bread is excellent, not sure if made in-house but they're light, toasted, holds the sandwich 'innards' well (though some tectonic sliding iykwim) but still makes for a perfect big bite. Now these are not MASSIVE heroes like Lioni's (this is a good thing), but do consider these sandwiches more of an indulgence/treat. Well worth the trip/price.
