You might find this all across the Midwest, but I wouldn't Bank on it. Get it. This is a popular bank that seems a lot more ethical than a lot of the big box banks. I appreciate them, and some of the things they've done have been above and beyond what you expect. If I ever did end up living in the midwest - specifically my beloved Kansas City - I would be mainly banking here from now on. I own a small business and have used several banks over the past 19 years for business and personal banking. I avoid Bank of America since they have nice technology but are too large to care and once lost a $10,000 business deposit due to a computer error that took the corporate office a month to resolve. I had Peoples Bank for business and personal accounts but they were a mess. We finally moved to Bank Midwest in 2009 and have been extremely satisfied with the service, policies, support and staff. Bank Midwest is a good sized bank with the feel and service of the small town local bank. It's like I grew up with their staff, they smile and treat you with respect, they help whenever you need it and have always been great whenever we had a question or issue. The business checking and services are excellent, the people are great and they offer everything the large corporate banks have but actually care about customers and the companies they service. read more

Having numerous problems with their updates on their system-for me and many others it is a minor irritation(these are like flies and the worst!). I have had to call them several times because although i am a customer i keep getting charged for using the ATM. Everytime i call customer service they are always making the excuse "it is just our people doing the updates" and to be quite honest after all this time it's getting a little old. I was promised last time that the problem was fixed and this morning was given the same story so we'll see. Sounds like maybe they need to start giving someone else their IT business,heh? 10-14-15 - This bank has changed a whole lot since i went to them about 15 years ago. Now, they have changed their on line site and it is a mess! I had just one simple questions and i sent it via email and just got a standard response form with no mention of the problem i described. I had to go back to the branch location AGAIN! Fortunately i was helped by the manager and she went out of her way to try and take care of me-although i needed my cell phone to complete the process. She worked with me and now have my banking on line back. I feel that someone in upper management was rushing people to get this new site up and operating and just didn't think things out too well. Oh well, maybe they will learn that you can't make thing too difficult for your customers or they will go somewhere else! 10-30-15- The bank has an apology on their on line site and admits the errors of their ways. Personally i don't believe they believe their apology-just more bank propaganda. If i didn't have to go to so much trouble because of all my direct deposits i would find another bank(although the banks are so powerful now and they all operate about the same). You are basically dealing with the government when you complain to a bank and you get a bunch of "i understand's and i would feel the same way" part of their script they are taught to try and calm a angry customer down. read more

Absolutely the WORST bank I've ever been involved with! I have been a customer for almost 30 years, through the name changes... and have stayed with them for convenience - Not particularly fond of INTEREST FREE checking! My mom, who does the finances, was hospitalized and was not able to attend to the bills. She has accounts at different banks, but for convenience sake, uses Bank Midwest to pay bills. She always has a few thousand in her account, but it got depleted rapidly, and she went into overdraft. She was not able to attend to the finances for 1 month, and ended up with over $500 in overdraft fees! We called to see if they would pardon the fees, but they refused. They charge $35 for each item that causes an overdraft, and then on top of that $5/day. The best word to describe their customer service is INCOMPETENT! They unfortunately have opted to alienate all but their wealthy customers by affixing a monthly "service" fee for those of us who can't maintain an $800/week balance. After ten years of being a customer, I closed my account. We work hard to provide for our family, and even a few dollars are precious. I'm not sure what happened after the bank was bought out, but it has certainly negatively affected the "common sense" and customer service. Disappointing. read more

I had overdraft protection, suddenly I did not. I went $5 over, and now I am losing $5 daily plus a $35 fee. I am a single mother of two attending KU. This is the furthest thing from helping me obtain my goals. I called to find out what happened to my overdraft protection. They said they would look into it and call me back. That was six days ago. Not sure what is going on with this bank, as I have had accounts there for about 10 yrs, but now I am looking for a new bank. Now they are charging for a checking account unless you have automatic transfers to a savings account. So when I need to transfer money back to my checking account, then I am told that I have too much activity on my savings account due to federal regulations. Also, I have alerts set up to text and email when my balance gets below a certain amount. Conveniently for them, these alerts come at 4:00 a.m. - yes, A.M!.!! By that time, it is too late to transfer money over and you will be charged NSF fees. read more

I used to love this bank. I loved the online system and the customer service. I even kept my automatic deposit when I moved out of state! Recently they changed the online system to something completely different. It will tell you a check has been processed but doesn't actually come out of your until days later. When I called the North Oak branch I received the worst customer service... She gave me the wrong number to the online banking department and when I called her back to tell her she was rude to me. When I said I would take my business elsewhere she told me to go ahead. I was completely shocked and appalled. I will be closing my account as soon as I return to Kansas City in a month. read more

I have banked here for 13years and just found out today that my account had been over drafted because of a new monthly fee they started charging in Nov and they are now charging $5/day overdraft fee. I have not received any notification of this new monthly fee change although they say they had mailed letters out. The first I heard of this new fee is when a snotty rep named Ashley called me saying my account was overdrawn due to this new fee. I used this bank regularly up until I got married last year and was just using this account since then for child support. I have had horrible customer service at the st. Joseph location with the rep Ashley she was very snotty and would not even try to help, just wanted me to pay these fees that I do not feel I should owe due to not knowing about this new fee. Then when I went into the physical bank I spoke to a Rosie and she was nicer but gave me a false number to corporate. I have no problem paying the monthly fee but I do have a problem with this bank charging an overdraft fees when I was not made aware of the change.
