Took me back and this anesthesiologist treats me like a drug seeking. Person. I'm just trying to take a Tylenol. Then he decided I had pancreatitis.and needed a cat scan. But wouldn't order one. And I needed labs too. I have been living with this pain for years. And I had to go without any of my normal meds to have this procedure. So they could figure it out finally. They had been very good in the past and I like my Doctor. I had a 2pm appointment for today 9/25, for the last 3 weeks, and they called yesterday to say I had to change it to 4pm because anesthesia does not work past 2pm. They made the appointment at that time and should know how long anesthesia works. I scrambled to get a ride with the change and show up to a full waiting room with nowhere to sit - no chairs available. People are standing. It's packed. They tell me it's a 2-1/2 to 3 hour wait because they only have one anesthesiologist and another doctor is 3 hours behind. So they make me change my appointment and when I arrive I have to stand in their waiting room for 3 hours to wait past the original time they gave me. I'm supposed to stand along with my friend that drove me from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. They told me anesthesia does not work past 2pm but now I won't get to my appointment until 4:30. I've not eaten or had anything to drink since 6pm the night before and it's 110 here in Phoenix. I'm hungry and thirsty and suffer from really bad back pain. It will be 24 hours until I have eaten or had anything to drink. So my PAIN DOCTOR wants me to stand in his waiting room, thirsty and hungry for 3 hours with an aching back. And my friend driving me has to wait as a captive also. What kind of medical facility and does this? Could they not call me and tell me they are 3 HOURS behind? Nope. read more

Having worked in health care for several years - this place is off to a terrible start! Shoving a non-itemized bill in my face before any other paperwork for my daughter's procedure is wildly unprofessional and shows your stance on patient care. Sadly I am sitting waiting for my daughter's procedure to start and writing this at the same time in stead of focusing on her. When I questioned how I can confirm the amount was correct - being told "someone should have called you to review" is another terrible response and also does NOT answer the question. Then they asked for me to blankety sign that I had read things without expecting me to read it. I was supposed to sing that I understood physicians had ownership stakes. I asked where I would have gotten that notice - to which the registration person Haidee pointed at a sign on the far left side of her desk - well out of line of sight from where I was sitting and being g asked to sign. I then said we needed to finish the paperwork up so this could get going. Haidee sat there and asked if I was going to call the billing office. I said "once she is back there I will call and confirm they have the correct information." She sat there and stared at me like a lost deer in headlights. So I asked "are you not going to do my daughter's procedure if I don't pay you the $73 fee now?" She again did not directly answer rather said "I need to collect the fee. That's what I'm here to do." So then the answer is yes you will refuse the surgery over your failure to provide me an itemized estimate and confirm that the fee of $73 is correct." It's not about the costs - it's about knowing that it's the correct fee. The odds of getting back any money from a giant healthcare provider is quite low so before I hand over money I'd like to know what I'm being charged for and that it is correct. Not a great start. I hope your clinical staff is better - but at this point I won't hold my breathe nor be optimistic. I'm glad to know that it's finances over patient care. read more

I was so impressed with Banner Surgery Center from the get go. That's hard for me to even believe because my last few experiences with Banner in the west valley have been awful. Unfortunately my son broke his wrist during a dirt bike accident over the weekend prior and needed surgery to repair it. I was notified of a date the next week which would've put the surgery near Thanksgiving. We were bummed but it was important. To our pleasant surprise the surgeons office called to bump up the surgery so he didn't have to wait anymore with the pain. The staff here was so amazing from the check in process, paperwork signing, to the preop nurses and post op. They even managed to get a few laughs out of him before surgery to calm his nerves. After he woke up they made sure he was well taken care of pain managed and eased this worried mom's heart. They explained after care and more. Bonus was they had coffee and hot cocoa in the waiting area while we could sit and watch the tv or get some work done if needed. If we had to have any surgeries ever again this would be the place I'd want to be. The place was very clean and well kept. read more

I went for a Lumbar Puncture that led to be being diagnosed with MS. Everyone from Reception to Check Out tried to make me feel comfortable and at ease. It's an interesting procedure the Dr. who did it was great, he realized I was a talker and just kept me talking while they took the fluid, his staff was also excellent with keeping me at ease. I was very impresses as the test was kinda scary for me and knowing that the results could be life changing didn't help with the anxiety. But I felt well taken care of the whole time. read more

This is the 3rd time I think I've had surgery here, and the experience is so well orchestrated. The people in admitting greet you with a very friendly attitude, get your paperwork done very quickly. The nursing staff is amazing. They are so nice and organized, and very efficient. The doctors here are truly top notch. Overall experience is awesome! 2023 Obviously, you don't have a choice, if your Dr works here, you will have to deal with 45 min to 2 hour wait (this was for cataract surgery for an octogenarian, 1st eye was 45 min wait, 2nd eye 2 hour wait), 25 forms for her to fill out the first time, and same 25 forms brought to her to fill out 30 MINUTES PAST HER scheduled surgery time - because they "forgot to scan them in" after her first surgery 1 month ago. Then, only after we ASKED WHY ITS 2 HOURS SINCE SCHEDULED SURGERY TIME and she's still waiting... Did they take her right back. So tip: ASK and ASK and ASK. Keep pestering them to do their freaking jobs until you get taken care of. It's all corporate and careless now days. The Drs may be awesome, but we don't have a choice about the facility. It's ghetto treatment in a modern looking, clean establishment. Par for the course for US medical system these days. Bring a good book, and ASK to make sure you or your loved one is not forgotten. read more

They wouldn't follow up with my doctor about insurance and two days before surgery denied my request. I work in the event industry took time off, reached out to clients about my work availability, etc just for them two tell me TWO DAYS before that they can't do my surgery. And to top it off my aunt received terrible service just a week prior to today. She has a slipped disc and can't walk and was put through bs from this hospital and was there for hours in pain. This is a must avoid hospital. Sure everyone's understaffed but now they've rearranged my entire end of year at work and personal life just because they couldn't get to the insurance fast enough. I have, unfortunately had several surgeries in the past 6 months and this last one at Banner Desert Surgery Center stands out so far from the other facilities that I cannot think of words to separate them. I arrived and was registered and on a bed in approximately 8 minutes. My nurse, Judy was very energetic, happy and so welcoming. It is nearly impossible to start an IV on me, but she took one try, without poking a dozen times and painlessly started the IV. Every single person greeted me with their name, eye contact and I was told by all of the staff that they were there just to provide me with the best care. Each one asked if I had any questions or concerns. I felt as if I were their only patient!! After my surgery, my comfort and concerns were so important to the staff. There was such a lighthearted sense of humor that it was difficult to remember that I was having surgery! All of the surgical facilities I have been to have had competent staff, but I have never been to one that made me forget what I was there for, laugh, and made me want to hang around. I don't want anymore procedures, but you can be sure that if I do, I will have them at this facility. read more

This place is SOOOOO RUDE! They don't go into any information! They will take your money "a co-pay" even if your insurance card says do not take money at time of service! They do less work than a fast-food worker! They won't help you with directions, even it's seriously 2 mins down the road! They only let the patient go in so don't bother bringing anyone! They have said to three patients " well I don't know who told you that" and " well that's what the computer says" and will not go any further!! I would never never come here for anything. I can't stress enough what a horrible and dangerous situation I was put in by this hospital. After having 2 discs removed from my cervical spine I had to spend the night at the hospital. On more than one occasion I had to get out of bed to get a nurse to get pain medication after my attempts to page them fell on deaf ears. My vitals weren't taken once over night. And when I told the charge nurse thee next morning she wasn't really interested in the problem. I voiced my concerns in my patient survey and asked to be contacted.. nothing. Maybe they should spend less money on commercials and more on training. read more

Even as a last resort- do not go to this hospital. I visited the ER here on 1/1/19 due to kidney pain assuming it would be a kidney infection that I could get antibiotics for and go. I expected long waits because of the holiday, but they have let me down in every way. When I arrived at 4AM, I waited over an hour to be brought back which I figured would be the case. I then was brought back to a room and no one came in to help us for almost two hours despite me being in horrible pain. They took a urine sample, which then sat on the counter for another hour. Still no IV or medicine was given, the doctors reasoning was that "it was probably just a simple UTI." They then finally took me back for a CT scan to check for kidney stones, and while back the doctor used his "lovely" bedside manner to tell my wife that my tests came back "filthy and disgusting in every way" (nice way to talk about a patient, lol) and that I had a SEVERE kidney infection. He told me upon returning from my CT Scan that they didn't think there were any stones; and that if there weren't they would give me antibiotics and send me on my way. Unfortunately I did have one and thus have been hospitalized. I feel like a list would make it easier to spell out the ridiculous way this hospital is run: 1. It took over two hours for me to be taken to my room- not a huge deal. However- the whole time two doctors sat outside my room and loudly argued over what should be done to get rid of the kidney stone. 2. I was given conflicting information up until 10 minutes prior to my surgery about whether or not I would even need surgery because of whether or not the stone needed to be removed 3. I was told I would have a stent inserted to ensure proper kidney drainage, and that it would have a string so I could remove it myself in a few days. Come to find out- there was a huge miscommunication and I will now have to come back in a week to have it surgically removed. Lovely. 4. I was OVERDOSED on anesthesia, resulting in me not breathing after having my breathing tube removed after my surgery and had to be given Narcan to wake me up. 5. My antibiotics the first night were forgotten to be given to me (lovely considering I had a rampant kidney infection). 6. I would often wait for an hour or more to be given pain medicine 7. The nurses in general took 30 mins to an hour to help me with literally anything. Covering up my IV so I could shower, replacing my IV bag, hooking back up my IV after showering, giving me pain relief medication, turning off the alarm on my IV machine that went off constantly for no reason, giving me water, etc, etc, etc. You name it- they took an absurd amount of time to respond. 8. The shower had absolutely no hot water. 9. I had to frequently dump my urine cup when I should have been recovering because the nurses only did once, and my surgery causes me to need to go often. 10. I asked for a note for work and school 3 times and never received one. 11. I received non-stop conflicting information about literally everything. The medicine I was supposed to be on, the stent that would be inserted, when I would be discharged, everything. 12. I was informed I had spots on my lungs that I was told by one doctor were nothing, and another told me it was imperative that I see a lung specialist immediately because it could be a severe fungal infection such as valley fever. 13. The employees complained non stop about scheduling issues in front of patients and made it very clear they didn't want to be there. The only pros were my transporter (I don't recall her name) and one nurse named Kathleen who was attentive and caring. Other than that- the entire experience has been a complete and total shit show. I will never come back except to have my stent removed, and will be sure to advise everyone I can not to come here. I'm appalled at the way I was treated here, ESPECIALLY being overdosed on anesthesia during a minor surgery that shouldn't have led to complications. I'm terrified to have the stent removed. read more

If you are looking into a place for outpatient surgery, look elsewhere!!! First, due to Covid, they are ONLY allowing the patient in. So, for those of us who travel over an hour to get here, we have NOWHERE to go. So, we have to sit in our cars, in heat that is well over 105 today! For over two hours! Then, they DONT UPDATE you on your loved one. Is he dead? Did he even get inside? They EXPECT you to wait in hot AF weather without any information. So, once I came to from the damn heat stroke, I called the dr and they didn't have any information. So, can I leave to get a water because it like the Sahara outside? This has happened TWICE!!! In TWO WEEKS! They didn't let me go in with my husband to his dr appt so he has NO CLUE what to ask. Apparently asking for a timeline is too cumbersome for my husband. And a doctor or nurse letting him know a timeline isn't their priority either. I guess when someone dies of heat exhaustion in their parking lot, perhaps they will find a means to fix the problem. Next time I do this, I will shell for a hotel room because it's too damn hot to wait in the car!!!! Oh, and all in room dining All over town is closed! I recently had out patient surgery here. They were able to do 2 separate surgeries at the same time. This ment only being put under Anastasia 1 time. My surgeons Dr Bloola and Dr. Mauser were excellent. Both are very kind and have a good sense of humor. One of the surgeries was done robotically and turned out great. Beyond the surgeons, the nursing staff was excellent and took very good care of me. They got my pain under control quickly, and were genuinely kind and caring. The Doctor that was my anistegeaolost was the best. I gave a past history of always throwing up after surgery. She gave me three things to insure I would not get sick. I did not get sick at all. I wish I could remember her name. All the Doctors and staff listened to me and explained everything. This is the only hospital I will go to in AZ. I had a 45min drive each way and it was well worth it. Thank you all for such excellent kind care. read more

I recently had surgery at Banner Desert Surgery Center in October 2019. From check in to check out, the level of care I received from this center was 5 star. The rep who checked me in was super friendly and always made me feel old by calling me SIR. Lol. Professionalism top notch. The nursing staff from pre-op, OR, and post-op so professional and made me feel so comfortable throughout my visit. They were amazing and showed lots of love and care. The day after surgery, I received a call from a recovery nurse asking how I'm feeling when I informed her about my recovery following surgery, she was so caring and even offered to follow up with my surgeon on my behalf regarding a symptom and called me right back with the decision/outcome.
