Poor communication. Overpriced. Longer wait than quoted. I found Mako at Ink and Dreams who has great reviews and did the same design for $100 less than what Mike quoted me. And the communication was very lacking. I signed in and was supposed to be seen the same evening, never got a call or text until I texted to ask. I gave him a pic of the tattoo I wanted and he said he'd need to make a sketch, and again, I didn't hear from him all week until I contacted him again, and he still hadn't made the sketch. I told him the deal the other shop offered and he said I should go with them. Turned out to be great advice. Addendum: now Mike H is literally trolling me on Yelp just because I gave an honest review. (See attached image) He went to my review of the other tattoo parlor that actually helped me, and he rated it "funny." This shows how seriously he takes customer service. Maybe instead of Yelp stalking me, he could have actually addressed my review to get something positive out of it, but that's just not the route he took. read more

The first one that I got was PRAY on my index fingers. I went literally like 1-2 wks later and got my 2nd and 3rd tattoos - God Only Knows (with a feather) on my left forearm and a cross with Proverbs 4:23 on my right side of my wrist. Got my first tattoo here. Did a walk in, showed my design, waited for the artist to finish drawing the stencil and got my tattoo. He went through the process with me and made sure I was comfortable since it was my first time. After bandaging my finished tattoo, I paid a fair price of $200 and was given instructions on how to care for my tattoo during the healing process and was given an aftercare foam for free. read more

Going to Hawii, I had known that I wanted a tattoo. My boyfriend was on the same boat as I! I searched through yelp months before and found this shop. Once we arrived in hawaii, we drove down and went to the shop. There we met Mike and showed him the designs that we wanted ( my boyfriend wanted an owl and I wanted a tulip). He gave us a quote ( cash only) and we set an appointment to the day before we were going to leave. He told us that throughout the days we are here, to wear sunscreen to protect our skin, especially the area where we are going to get a tattoo. He gave us a pretty nice vibe so we knew he was the one. Day of the appointment, he started off with my boyfriend and decided to sketch out a new drawing for my boyfriend because the one my boyfriend showed him was a little funny looking. This took about an hour and was the best thing he could have done! With what Mike created, it was amazing! 5 hours later, my boyfriends tatoo was done. After was my tattoo, mine was going to be going on my side rib. As a lady, you want a person that is tattooing you in a personal area to be someone that you trust and Mike was just that person. I hadn't thought my day through and had worn a romper but it was able to hold on the bottom and was wearing my unclipped bra in place. Mike was super nice and asking if I was ok and comfortable. I told him I was and so he did the tattoo. Over all, I'm extremely happy with my tattoo and so is my boyfriend. Anytime I'm in Hawaii and needing a tattoo, this will be my go to spot! Found Mike tagged in my friend's instagram posts (he did all three of her tattoos) and they were all beautiful. I saw he did a lot of Japanese tattoos which is kinda what mine was - Chihiro from spirited away. At first I wanted something minimal and just the outline but I took his advice to add in shading. I went in thinking I needed an appointment (because of COVID restrictions) but he was able to take me in that night or the next day. I didn't actually get my tattoo until later since I was busy with work. I felt bad thinking I was last minute because I texted him after work asking if he had time; he drew up my design and I was in the chair that night right after dinner. I barely looked at what he was doing because I'm not a fan of needles but getting to converse with him added to the whole experience. He's friendly, got great jokes, great conversations, and his work speaks for itself. While I was in the chair I saw two other artists finish tattoos and they were sooo sick! Everyone in the shop is so talented and I'm grateful for the work Mike did and I'm looking forward to having more done by Banzai tattoo. read more

My good friend Mike moved here to Banzai from the Dark Side and after a LONG haitus of no tats I decided on my next one. I talk/text/holla at Mike once in a while and always say, "I coming in soon" or "I'll holla at you man". Finally, after 3 years since my last tat I made my decision on the size, placement, and my daughter's 2 middle chinese names "Oy" (love) and "Gin" (determination). I decided on my right side abs about 5x9 inches to include the 2 characters. My wife's cousin did the calligraphy for me (he used to do it in China when he was a youngster) and confirmed it with my in laws (both from China in their younger years). As you can tell all my tats have special meanings and special people were a part of it. Anyways, got to the shop and everyone was helpful and courteous. Mike, of course, talked stories with me about custom knives and skull jewelry and Howie (who I know from a past life) helped me with cropping, enlarging the image, and making the transfer. All in all, very professional and helpful. Everything was sterile and straight up in there. No one can come inside unless you are getting tatted, no drinks lying all over the place, and all the specs in order. Even the light Mike used was wrapped like a dentist office and replaced when I left. Anyways, the tat was painful, like it should be. And I was more than happy with the results. Mike gave me the breaks I needed, let me cry when I needed (ha ha), and just made me feel like one of his cousins hanging out at his house getting a tat. I would reccommend Banzai Tattoo to anyone and as for the artists, I am biased to my boy Mike Higuchi. Straight up, a good man, and like a brother to me. I got my first tattoo when I was 18 for no other reason than wanting a tattoo. A friend & I were in Pearl City late one night & impulsively decided to get inked together. Thanks to Banzai Tattoo's strategically placed sign which is easily viewed from the main street, we found ourselves at the front desk getting price quotes. In the short amount of time I had to contemplate what I wanted memorialized on my body forever--& considering my limited cash on hand--I decided to get the Japanese kanji for "family" on my lower back. We were introduced to Sonny & apparently I didn't look 18, so he politely asked for a photo ID. He did a quick sketch of what my friend envisioned for his piece, then proceeded to work on him first & then myself shortly afterwards. I told Sonny it was my first time getting inked & he frequently checked to make sure I was doing okay. Might I say, I didn't mind the pain. Afterwards, he applied an anti-bacterial ointment on my fresh tattoo, bandaged me up & went over the aftercare procedures. I don't regret getting this tattoo, but I think I'll put more thought into my next piece--which is years in the thinking. read more

There is an atm available in one of the restaurants below for a $2.75 fee. There is parking but depends on what time you're here for your tattoo (there is a time limit I think). They have books for ideas of what kind of tattoo you're thinking of getting or bring in your own drawing. This is a clean, no smoking area. My husband's tattoo is pretty gnarly! I love ithe loves it. The staff was pretty helpful and makes sure that you're okay, they granted my husband a smoke break. They were very professional and know their stuffs. Oh man I am from Alaska on vacation. These guys were amazing. I showed him what I wanted he took time to fix it up and made it look appropriate and also just what I imagine it would look like. I've had some tattoo work done with this shop in the past, roughly 10 years ago. Nothing but good vibes and great customer service. So when I finally (after nearly a year) decided to get my next piercing done this is one of the shops I initially considered. I called and got professionalism right off the bat. All of my questions got answered within seconds. I walked in so as expected there was a little wait. I didn't mind at all, it allowed me to "man up" before my piercing. Overall the piercing process was quick, a little painful of course but nothing crazy. My piercer was professional and personable which all helped me be as comfortable as possible. After 3 days I was concerned about how much my septum piercing still hurt, and I also really needed a smaller ring because the current one was actually too big to fit in my nose flipped up. I didn't feel comfortable going back to Banzai though, so I went to Ink Pit in Honolulu and spoke with Lisa. She was so disgusted by how poorly my piercing was done that she took it out and told me she would re-pierce it for free after my nose had healed. The ring was actually going through the cartilage! She couldn't believe that he charged me full price and let me leave his shop like that. Do not go here for a piercing. read more
