Had the absolute worst experience with my total hysterectomy here yesterday with the preop staff. I'm a certified vascular access RN and ER RN with over 24 years of experience in my field. I came into this with this surgery being my 6th surgery in 13 months. I've been a professional patient and certified pin cushion lately. I'm aware that I am a hard stick and notified staff of this. I also told them I was severely traumatized by my last operative experience and even as they initially brought me back I was begging for them to let my husband, my one source of comfort come back. It was denied. I was terrified and only wanted him and was bawling my eyes out the entire time just begging for him to be allowed back. It continued to be denied. As it came time to place my IV I directed the nurse to my best venous access sites and the nurse was unsuccessful. After the 4th attempt I asked for an ultrasound guided IV to help prevent me more pain. My nurse Erin got frustrated when she was looking at a particular spot and I told her 'I'm going to need an ultrasound I'm telling you' and she dropped the gurney, threw her hands up and let out a frustrated sigh and said 'ok'. Way to make me feel heard there. They refused to do that. Anesthesia was able to get a 22g in my hand that eventually blew like I told them it would. I told them areas specifically to avoid due to knowing these sites wouldn't work. Intraop 6 more attempts were made specifically in places I requested to not be attempted for cannulation. I woke up seeing all these bruises and feeling completely violated as I did not consent for what they did to me. I know my own body. I came in terrified and traumatized and left even more so. I expected more of Baptist than this. A patient advocate contacted me and you could tell by her tone that she did not give a half a crap about this. Do not recommend this hospital they do not respect patients and their bodily autonomy and will do whatever they please to you at your most vulnerable state. Outpatient surgery on my ankle. I have had multiple outpatient surgeries in 20+years and outpatient for me has always been a week stay in the hospital. So my expectations are low when the dr says outpatient! But, yesterday I cannot brag enough on the nurses, staff and dr that I had, they treated us like family or a friend, rather than a patient. read more

I must straighten all the wrong information. Baptist Hospital is a great Hospital and if they can help, they will do the best they can. My problem was not with the Hospital itself it was the disrespect I received from an ER doctor twice, the same doctor. I still do not understand why? I do not know him, and I was dumfounded the way he treated me, as if I did something wrong. The first time my stomach hurt and blew up so bad, and I was dismissed as if I wasn't important of even a human being. The second time I did not want to see this ER Doctor because he scared me and all I wanted was help. This time I was tangled in my dog's big dog bed and fell on my knees and all my weight fell to my knees and it hurt really bad. If I was younger, it properly would have been nothing but with age our bodies cannot handle things as it used to. When I arrived at the ER by ambulance I asked, " please don't let that ER doctor next to me and it was a shift change and he show up and walked into the room I was in and didn't say one word to me just looked at the monitor and walk out. Was I being judged as someone told me it is called, Gaslighting. Again, all I wanted was anyone to help me, not be so mean to me. When someone is in pain after any incident all they need and want is to be treated as if their important and receive the help they need. The worst was when he had a co-worker come in for approximately a few minutes and then write terrible things on my chart as I was told by one person there that knows how mean this ER doctor is. I would like to sit with this ER doctor and try to understand why he treated me like a non-human entity. Baptist Hospital gets the upmost respect from me, and I would like to be treated with respect and so should everyone. I could be mean to him by saying his name, but this is not who I am. What I can say I worked in a hospital before and a nursing home up North and I loved to make people happy and make sure they feel as if they are the most important person in the world. I remember every Christmas I purchased A gift box from Swiss Colony for every single resident there. Some did not have any family and some people there was just sad. I had lots of money then because I worked hard and I love to make everyone smile. This is how it should be now. I believe no one has the right to judge anyone. I learn just because you are a great doctor doesn't mean you are a good person. So, if Baptist Hospital is getting spoken badly about it needs to stop. Yes, I understand everyone had their own experiences and it is their right to vent, but I will not say negative anything about a great Hospital due to one ER doctors bad bed side manner. I do expect to be reach out to and not dismissed, this ER doctor needs to tell me in person why did he treat me as a non-human entity and basically had his staff throw me out the hospital and I couldn't hardly walk. Thank God for my son and the nice nurses that did their best as order. Yes, my knees still hut every day and my stomach pain that day was a Hernia. Took my wife into the E/R around 2pm for chest pain. They took her in right away, and did an EKG.Nurses were very helpful. At 6pm they said that they were going to admit her to do a stress test and echocardiogram in the morning. She wouldn't be able to eat after 9pm so I left to get some food. Came back by 6:30 and she was still waiting for a room. The registration nurse came in and took her info and said the room should be ready soon...the nurses in the E/R were very caring and patient came into check on her and give her pain meds. At 10 pm I left her in the E/R to go home, after 7 1/2 hrs they said it shouldn't be long. MY WIFE TEXTED ME AT 2:30AM!!!! STILL NO ROOM!! I called the E/R to see why, and was told that there are NO rooms currently available. And that she should not have been told that they were waiting for one!!! DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE?!! My wife did not get moved to a room until 7AM!! SEVENTEEN HOURS! After coming to the E/R! It really seems as though NO ONE had a clue of what was going on!! BUT WAIT, it keeps going. Both the stress test and echocardiogram were done before lunch. So the nurse was going to "check" with the doctor about getting her something to eat while awaiting the results. Well it's now 4:30pm no lunch has come yet & NO TEST RESULTS!! And now they are saying that they want to move her upstairs to a "regular" room- to possibly stay ANOTHER DAY!! WHY??!!! This is the FIRST time ever coming here; and it will be THE LAST!!! It seems like a nice clean newer place but it is SO POORLY OPERATED!! The accommodations for family and visitors SUCK! (The coffee shop was closed, the gift shop was closed) and the cafeteria closed for the day after lunch....no dinner available!! I'll go to O.P. Medical Center anytime after this fiasco!!! If I could give it 1/2 a star I would!! read more

My spouse recently had a few nights stay at this new hospital in Fleming Island. When I first walked in on the first floor I felt a library vibe. There was not one visible soul in the whole bottom floor of the hospital and as I walked i could see there was a small eatery that was closed. Apparently, they close at 3 o'clock. The hospital floor does look like the same design concept as Baptist South, long and lenier. The rooms are huge. They come with a huge TV and a refrigerator. The Windows are very big and the patients can direct the shades with their handheld controllers to go up-and-down. Their chair and the couch are standard. The only problem I had was contact with doctors, there was none unless you were there in the8 morning. The nurses were fabulous and tried to keep us informed but it felt more like a cover up. The hospital is new and only had a few patients so I'm sure they are still trying to schedule accordingly. I would come back here again.Its the best option in Clay right now for care. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! Nurses and doctors are very unprofessional!!! I came in there for a cough they checked my oxygen levels and they where around 88 but eventually came up to about 92 Wich is great for someone with my medical history and I explained that multiple times it's even clearly stated in my charts they did not listen to me they ran tests for the cough and I waited hours for them to come back in the meantime they where persistent on giving me pain medication that in my charts says I cannot have!! Finally my X-rays came back and I had pneumonia they wanted to admit me for my oxygen levels once again I refused they still tried to not let me leave until they came up to 95 Wich they will NEVER be I explained once again and they did not care they gave me one antibiotic and didn't have intentions on giving me a prescription until I asked ?? So I had to discharge myself please do not go here they have no clue what they are doing read more

BEWARE do NOT take your loved one to this place! The incompetence is off the charts. My 84 yr old mother was misdiagnosed treated horribly and got worse! There are no physicians available to talk to only NP and PA's. If you dare question why they are giving a particular medication they treat you like complete dirt. They guess on your loved one what to do and they have no clue other that poking an sticking to get some sort of baseline to go from. If they would listen to the family my mother would not have had to endure gasping o breath, no personal care such as help for toilet only to goes days without help, to end up so clogged she had to have family help "dig out" her feces before she had to be surgically helped. The staff of the Imaging Center- Health Place talented staff was so welcoming and made me feel comfortable for my various testings. Respectfully a disappointing disaster. We agree with all the negative reviews herein and our story is much to lengthy to discuss within this forum. We have left several messages for the patient advocacy person. However, they failed to return calls. Therefore, It continues to be indicative of the overall poor treatment or lack thereof. They have proven that they are not truly concerned about a patient's satisfaction. Further, the hospital's senior administration hides within. UPDATE: We provided our information as directed through their response to our post and followed it up with another phone call to the admin staff asst. However, once again they do not know who handle what. Truly amazing organization. read more

This is our 3rd stay with BMC Clay unfortunately going to BMC Oakleaf ER tend to only want to admit primarily at Clay. I can tell you this will be the absolutely last time. Each and every time there has been significant issues. I have an elderly mother and they have no idea what they are doing. The first time they lost my mom for about 45 minutes never reported a thing. Also had a diagnosis that was applied that had nothing to do with the reason she was admitted. The charge nurse is never available or accountable. Each stay they try to put your loved one in a diaper to avoid assisting to the restroom ! The toilet clogged for the entire three day stay, my mom was so thirsty I stopped by in between seeing my patients to find my mom drinking mouthwash because noone bothered to help get her a drink or order her food or assist with feeding although they know she is diabetic and still administered too much insulin causing her blood glucose level to bottom out and then wonder why?. The hospitalist change their regular medications at home while never discussing any of the changes with their respective specialists in the same hospital system!! They could care less about the patient but are definitely on top of charging maximum for less than mediocre care. The nurses on the floor have no idea about how to care for dementia patients or educate. All it is is a check box on the computer to file with insurance knowingly that they did not do any patient education period. This place is nothing but a illusion with poor care, no accountability and not safe for your loved ones especially the vulnerable. Finally advocating able to acquire a so called sitter well bad to worse the sitter in the room feet propped up and sleeping! While the patient is not. They either sleep or on their phones which I really wouldn't mind if their job was actually being done. Hard to believe these people go home and are ok with giving such deplorable care and come back to do it again and get paid for it. The nursing staff there is untrustworthy and unknowledgeable to care for the vulnerable. The hospitalist started a new medication and never sent the prescription to the pharmacy for the bladder and refused to contact the hospitalist to inquire for the reasoning or if maybe was a situation where it was just overlooked. It is obvious that she just in fact could care less. I wish them the same nurse x3 in their time of need that they were for their patient that is elderly , vulnerable and unable to advocate for herself in her time of illness. Baptist is not patient centered anymore just another racket to acquire their buildings and bonuses. Leaving your loved one here is as concerning as leaving them home alone with a serious illness both are dangerous and nerve racking. They do not hire great intelligent care takers they hire box checkers and "yes people to management and do not advocate for patients. They are completely lacking in disease process education and how to care for patients appropriately and it shows. So unfortunately please be mindful of advocating for your loved ones and know that there is no peace of mind in this place when someone you love is in their care. Deplorable. read more

Took our daughter to be seen due to falling off our bed. Dr came out to waiting room to meet her moved her arm around up and down etc didn't think is was broken (mind you she's completely normal and absolutely no pain and using her arm clapping reaching and picking things) we go back for X-rays then Dr pulls us to this computer. Told us there's three breaks in her arm and that our story doesn't match the breaks. Told us that dcf was being called and we were stuck in a room until 1:40 am tried to take blood from her and completely traumatizing her. Got transported to Jacksonville found out dcf was never called until we got to the other hospital and the new dr inspected the new and old X-rays that were taken Said our story matched her break locations that he sees this all the time .And there were not three bad breaks but only two minor commen breaks that's not all the way through. This hospital is the reason we are in this mess in the first place. We were treated like criminals for 2 days. I do not recommend this place, if your child has a broken bone don't take them here they will call dcf all hell will break lose from there. Go to a different hospital (a children's hospital)! ER review only: After living in Fleming Island for 3 years my family has used this ER 6 times, and 2 of the 6 times were good and the rest were terrible. Both good times were chest pain related, so if this is your emergency medical issue give them a try, Otherwise, go to Orange Park Medical. At Baptist Clay, The nurses and the doctors are the issues. The PA's and other staff have all been cordial and helpful. The doctors all have typical god complexes, and are narcissists that are always too busy and rude. The nurses are almost always rude or painfully nice, where you can tell it's forced. My spouse had to use their ER not long ago because of an infection in a tooth that our dentist was not helpful in easing pain that had been persistent for a solid week. Ultimately, the nurse told my wife that they would give her a few pain killers, but as few as possible. OF NOTE: I understand we have an opiate crisis in the US right now, but my immediate family includes NO DRUG ADDICTS, and we really don't appreciate being treated like we are addicts of some sort. The nurse then came in the room and literally threw the paperwork at my spouse and walked out without saying anything. Thank goodness the Registration attendant was in the room so my spouse was able to figure out that the papers were for discharge. I really want to give this ER 1 star, but they were helpful when one of my family members had chest pains (2 incidences). Another negative incident included my daughter having a broken arm. This ER sent her to a hospital in downtown Jacksonville (fun drive...) and they ended up doing nothing. 3 weeks later my daughter had to go to Nemours who ended up having to set her arm and put it in a cast. Baptist Clay Medical's ER and hospital in downtown Jacksonville could have lead my daughter to having a permanent disability in her left arm. Again, if you are in the Fleming Island / Orange Park area and have a medical emergency, I recommend going to Orange Park Medical. Believe me, the nurses at Baptist Clay won't care; as they spend their time joking with one another and being rude to patients. Actually, I'm pretty sure the nurses at Baptist Clay would recommend you go to OP Medical as well, so they don't have to be bothered by patients. read more

I will never utilize a Baptist facility again. I, while at work, (and this had been an. ongoing issue) had severe LLQ abdominal pain that intensified. The attending I work with ordered an outpatient pelvic US so that I could get it taken care of on my lunch break and not miss work. I'm a baptist employee but have benefits through my husband. The US went well. The billing has been a nightmare. Twice, not once but TWICE they did not have the insurance member ID despite having copies of the front and back of my insurance card. Is this really that difficult??? They billed the insurance $5,000 (literally and not an exaggeration) for the ultrasound alone (this did NOT cover the fee for the radiologist to read the scan). Meritain paid them over $1,000 and I have a bill for $687. As that is my portion. Meanwhile my husband, who has regular CT scans for cancer followup, had his CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis with oral and IV contrast - insurance was billed $785. They were paid by Meritain just over $200. We owe like $90 when it is all said and done. A CT scan is vastly more expensive than an Ultrasound. Especially with oral and IV contrast. Will NEVER utilize a Baptist facility. They ring the insurance up like it is nothing to offset the costs of those without/off set lower reimbursement from other payers. It's disgusting that they get away with this. And then WE are on the hook for the bill - $687 for a pelvic ultrasound and $277 for the radiologist to read it. Again, when I went to the OBGYN for followup and a repeat US was done in her office - the bill for the office visit AND the US cost was $90 and change. Unbelievable and disgusting. Next time, I will call in as sick, I will NOT utilize a Baptist facility, Baptist won't get more money generated by me from seeing patients, and I will followup with my regular OBGYN. The system is disgusting. I tried to do the right thing by not missing work and am now on the hook for $1,000. How do they get away with billing so high?? I called them to negotiate the bill down. They will NOT reduce it to the Medicare rate and will only knock a mere 20% off if I pay in full upfront. Good thing medical bills cannot prevent you from buying a home. It's a scam. read more

We were 15 minutes early for our appointment, yet we had to wait 40 minutes for the ultrasound, which is normally not a problem, but my daughter had to drink a lot of water in preparation so she was very uncomfortable, and we were 30 minutes late for the Dr a pointment next door. The technician was great and she made sure the radiologist knew we needed the results right the way. read more

My husband was in & out in 2.5 hours. There was a shift change but the nurses & doctor had no problems picking up where the earlier employees left off. I was a bit anxious because it took 30min from the time we walked in to the time my husband was given the first line of meds, but hey, emergencies make people stressed anyway. He used the nurse call button twice & a nurse was in the room in less than a minute each time. Pros *Clean facility *Respectful staff *Quick check-in and discharge process *The room was spacious and had 2 chairs for family to sit in the room with the patient *The Doctor was receptive to my husband's needs, and willing to patiently answer my questions Cons *My husband had to wait exactly 30 minutes to receive any medication for his pain. read more

Daughter was diagnosed with possible appendicitis and referred for ultrasound ASAP. She went to imaging department and waited on tech for 3hours. The tech didn't get the correct images as referred. Her doctor finally got report and couldn't decide what she needed next, x-rays, cat scan or another ultrasound! Evidently just told her to go to ER Very unprofessional with no accountability! I've normally had absolutely outstanding care at Baptist Clay, but this past weekend I had to go back. As usual, I was taken back very quickly. But, after receiving an EKG and IV, I was told it would then be a three hour wait to see the doctor as he wasn't even in the building, he was in Orange Park. I've NEVER even heard of something like this. I wound up at St. Vincent's instead where a doctor thought I was lying because he, also, had never heard of any doctor leaving a facility without a different do for covering them. As I said, this was an anomaly but recommend being assured a doctor is in the premises before they bother with painful IV lines. read more

This place is completely useless. My family of 5 does not use the ER. However, in the past year we have had some health scares with our middle son and both my husband and myself. Husband has a history of kidney stones. They are very painful. He had to return to the ER at baptist clay 3 times before he revived treatment as they missed seeing the stones on the original scan. I had an ovarian cyst rupture and it was very painful. I had gone there at the onset and was told it was gas. Our son has had a myriad of sudden symptoms to include headaches for over a month and severe vitamin deficiency. His symptoms intensified on New Year's Day. We went there and they didn't even take blood. They told him it was seasonal depression and they don't treat things like that. We didn't even see a doctor at that visit. In the future, if have something urgent, we'll make the drive downtown. This place is a joke. read more
