Savoury churros if you like bread

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Bar Banane is one of the best cocktail bars in Toronto imo if you feeling fancy. It feels elevated, closer to a fine dining lounge than a typical cocktail bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The cocktails have great presentation and flavor combo. I think Asian cocktail bars do it better but this one is good for a French one (just my preference with my taste buds!) There is creativity in the menu, but everything still feels balanced and intentional. It is the kind of place where you can confidently order something unfamiliar and trust it will be well executed. We also ordered steak tartare, nova scotia lobster croustade, and savoury churros, all delicious. It had that refined, almost Michelin style plating where the portion looks delicate but leaves you satisfied. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place itself feels intimate rather than loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The crowd tends to be dressed up, mostly couples on dates and an older demographic, which adds to the polished atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The booths are comfortable to sit, and there's a full length mirror on the way to the bathroom for your fit selfies.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathrooms are communal fyi if you need to touch up your make up and it's dark in there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is still my favorite cocktail bar in the city for a date night or before heading out in ossington.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Bar Banane is a solid spot on Ossington if you're looking for creative cocktails and a cozy atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] drinks are well-crafted, balanced, and thoughtfully presented. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was friendly and attentive, though the space is small, so it can feel a bit packed, especially on weekends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe is intimate, making it a great place for a date or catching up with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only reason I'm giving it 4/5 instead of 5 is that while the drinks are great, the pricing feels a bit steep for the portion sizes, and the seating can be a bit tight.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and looking for a cocktail bar with a fun, laid-back feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Cute bar in ossington. The drinks are great and soufflé is to die for. We also got some mini toasts.

The actual bar at Bar Banane, but you can sit in the lounge at a dining table

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. Bring cash though, unless you're looking to make some big orders, because credit card is a minimum fifty-dollar spend.

Beertown occupies a commanding footprint in Toronto's Financial District -- a sprawling,…read moreenergetically lit gastropub that announces itself with a theatre of gleaming taps and an open, convivial floor plan designed unapologetically for the after-work crowd. It is, in many respects, exactly what it intends to be: a loud, generous, unpretentious haven for those emerging from Bay Street offices or rallying before a Scotiabank Arena event. The beer programme is the undisputed centerpiece. The selection is vast and thoughtfully curated, spanning local GTA craft offerings alongside storied European imports such as Erdinger and La Trappe. Flights arrive on paddles with coasters identifying each pour -- a charming detail that rewards the curious drinker. One could spend an entire evening simply navigating the rotating taps, and many regulars do precisely that. The kitchen delivers pub fare that, while familiar in concept. Service is warm and attentive on its best evenings, with staff who clearly understand the rhythm of a busy house. However, during peak hours the pace can stretch thin, and a lapse in table attention can surface. The noise level is considerable -- an unavoidable consequence of the venue's scale and popularity. Those seeking quiet conversation will find it a challenge; those seeking energy and the communal hum of a city unwinding will feel entirely at home. For the corporate denizen of the Financial District, or the sports fan looking for a spirited pre-game gathering point, Beertown is a reliable and genuinely enjoyable destination. The beer alone is worth the visit.

Visited with my team on a weekday evening a couple of weeks ago. We walked into an almost empty…read morerestaurant and were told they needed to make sure they had room for us (we were a party of 8). Thankfully somehow they did and we sat down to order. I'm not sure if it was our server's break but a couple of other servers came to check on us but couldn't (wouldn't?) take our order until our actual server arrived a while later, which was maybe 20 minutes or so. Not deterred, as we were hungry and thirsty - we ordered the giant beer paddles for our table to share and also a few apps. The beer arrived warm quite a while later and also only had the breweries names on the coasters, not the actual name of the beer so we guessed on a few. The apps were not memorable and were only warmish - so was not blown away. Too bad as the location nearer to me in Oakville was much better in terms of food and service. Even though my office is steps away, I wouldn't rush back.

Gord and I had Pep & Cheese pizzas (10" New York style pizza, pizza sauce, Ezzo pepperoni, mozzarella, oregano and Grana Padano cheese) and we both took half of our pizzas home for lunch tomorrow. Rosemary had Mac and Cheese (creamy mac and cheese made with our beer and cheddar sauce, topped with melted cheese, shaved scallions) and Chicken Tenders - Kids Combo (3 kid-sized buttermilk marinated, panko-breaded chicken tenders; served with thick cut french fries, plum sauce and ketchup) ... the mac and cheese looked delish and she took half home but the chicken tenders were overcooked. Kevin had a Chicken Clubhouse Sandwich and fries (classic clubhouse sandwich served on 3 pieces of toasted white bread, stacked with grilled chicken breast, shredded lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, bacon, guacamole and chipotle aioli spread). Alfred had a Margherita pizza (10" New York style pizza, pizza sauce, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and Grana Padano cheese). Christine had a Chicken Caesar Wrap (grilled chicken breast, romaine, parmesan, caesar dressing, wrapped in a 12" flour tortilla) and took half home. Ocean was our server. She was friendly and took good care of us. For some reason, the 3 pizzas came out about 15 minutes after the other meals so they were almost finished by the time we started.

I remember sitting at the bar and being taken care of and the bartender, being very thorough and polite with explaining each spirit and what hors d'oeuvres it would pair well with. I love the old factory/warehouse vibe of the distillery. The building looked very old from the outside with a more modern interior. Now for the bad, the giant fish piece is only given a tiny portion of tartar sauce to go with it, when we requested more they wanted to up charge $2.00. That is the same as charging for ketchup for fries! If you're offering tartar sauce for the fish, before you charge you should at least give enough for the food you are serving! Pictured is the amount that you receive with the plate. Which is also the amount they want to charge the extra money for. That is poor customer service! For this reason alone, we wouldn't return to this restaurant!

Service was good, however, we were somewhat forgotten at times since we were tucked away in a dark corner. We ended up ordering the Truffle Fries, the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka pasta, the Korean Chicken, and the Vodka Pie. The truffle fries were crisp and plentiful. We added sausage to the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka pasta, and it was delicious paired with the pizza. The Korean Chicken were bite sized and flavourful as well. We started with the Brussels sprouts which is always a great choice from here. Crispy on the outside and not an overwhelming Brussels sprout taste. This is likely because there is a generous sprinkling of grated parm and a great amount of dip. We tried the crispy tuna sushi. The tuna was beautifully marinated, so flavourful. And the sushi was nice and crispy. The vodka pie was a seasonal item and when we saw it listed, we knew we needed to try it. The sauce- amazing, the press was nice and flaky and light and really tasty. And the soccer Sada added nice saltines and flavour without being too overwhelming.
