My wife and I returned to Bar Pompette for our second visit last Saturday night (out of towners) while on vacation. As with our first visit, we were loving the "disappearing" ice cubes they love to use in their cocktails as well as the interesting items they like to come up with (e.g. turning one of their bakery's cinnamon bun's into a drink infusion). The bar is a little on the tight side and not a ton of seating or space and in both instances the staff seemed a little more reserved than conversational or even personable. It was also fairly loud despite the relatively low number of people too. Overall, the drinks were pretty good but I didn't really think they were great. I feel like they were almost trying too hard to come up with something new and edgy instead of trying to hit some more of those flavor bombs. This time around, I got the Oh La Vache #3 and the Bakery Punch. Last time, I got the Nitro Colada. All 3 all kind of fell into this category of "pretty good but not really blowing me away." Especially for the elevated price point compared to other cocktail bars. When I read that Bar Pompette was considered one of Toronto's best bars, I knew we'd be heading there sooner rather than later. We showed up around 6:00 on a recent Friday and the place was about half full, so we easily snagged a nice table in the middle of the restaurant. I was intrigued by all of their cocktails, but obviously I had to get the Cornichon ("cornichon pickle distillate, gin, dry vermouth, dill oil"). It arrived a short time later and really looked promising. And my first sip proved that it tasted as good as it looked. It definitely had a pickle flavor, but not in an overpowering way. I really loved this drink. We also tried a few food items, but since their menu isn't online, I can't describe them as accurately as I'd like. We started with some sourdough bread that was definitely way above average. We also got this pickled mussel dish that really impressed me, while the croque monsieur was about as good as it gets in terms of that venerable French sandwich. The service was friendly and helpful, too. Yeah, I don't think it's a stretch to call Bar Pompette one of the city's best watering holes. read more

Presentation can be impressive. That's the way it was for my cocktail, Nitro Colado which had pineapple, coconut, curry leaf falernum, white rum and nitrogen. It had an elongated ice cube ( they make their own ice that is clear ) that did take up a good portion on the glass. I thought the drink was elegant and classy upon being delivered to the table. I like the contents of the liquid not so much how the ice dominated a fair portion of the glass. I also had the Croquet-Monsieur which I thought could have used a little more ham. The Nitro Colada is light, creamy, and silky. It's like drinking a cloud - I don't know how else to explain it. If they sold that by the bottle, I would buy it. The Pursuit of Hoppyness was pretty solid and can be made alcoholic, as well. It didn't really stand out to me too much in terms of taste but I'm a fan of passionfruit so I knew I couldn't go wrong. Bar Pompette is a must - go! I'm from Vegas & have been to many cocktail bars. We were at Bar Raval and it wasn't our vibe so we found this area that had a lot of great reviews about their drinks. This is the best cocktail bar we've been to!! Not only are the cocktails delicious but they're different & unique. There's something for everyone which is nice. It's strictly a cocktail bar so no food or anything else to be expected. Nick is the bartender and he is super knowledgeable and friendly. I went to the restroom and saw my cocktail was gone. He put my cocktail in the fridge so it wouldn't get warm - service is just top notch! Would highly recommend this place any night you're free! This is a fantastic cocktail bar right in Little Italy! Amazing drinks selection, all curated with unique flavours and ingredients. They have snacks you can order as well - I had the ricotta which came with bread and was super tasty. Wish I took photos of the drinks! I tried the Hive Mind, the Paloma Quemada, and the Peat and Pit. They were all super tasty but the Paloma was definitely memorable and had a really nice blend of flavours. There must be an inside joke somewhere about the name being replaced by pompous :) We liked the location and the patio so we tried it. Couldn't get out fast enough. The cocktails come in sample size glasses. The flatbread that says it has smoked eggplant, is actually a pita bread with a brown sauce on it and THAT is all the "Aubergine" that you're getting.
