We got there around 6 and it was empty but filled up quite quickly. The restaurant was moody inside, with stick candles lit at each table. An Asian fusion snack bar with tapas style plates for sharing. Came here with some friends and started off with a round of shots. Their shots come in cute Chinese tea cups with chase of cilantro mint juice. Not my favourite type of chase but it was an interesting one. The place is small and best for small groups rather than larger groups. The snacks were great to munch on before dinner. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 5/5 - Loved this. It was crispy and juicy on the inside. Served with a wedge of lemon and an aioli dipping sauce. Would get this dish again. Korean fried chicken 5/5 - This was delicious with the gochujang sauce tossed on the fried chicken. Great for sharing without getting your fingers dirty. Steak tartare 3/5 - I thought this was okay and not the best I've had. Probably can skip on this dish. Foie gras torchon 4/5 - This was a great sharable bite. The foie gras comes with a crusted sweet top and blueberry compote on the side. Spicy tuna hand roll 3.5/5 - This took quite a while to come out for some reason and we had to ask for it a couple of times. It was okay as an order, can probably skip on this. The Reuben sandwich was probably the best tasting thing I had. The Korean fried chicken and general TSO-fu was ok. The Bao and eggplant sandwich were ok too according to my friends. There wasn't really anything to justify the price... The kitchen was not connected to the dining/bar area so the server had to carry them from outside which was a bit strange to me. My new go-to spot when I'm not HUNGRY but still down to grab a bite and a drink with it. Vibes here are really chill and food is even better. We sat at the bar and grabbed the tofu, chicken, and beef tartare. Tofu and chicken portions are great for sharing between multiple people. All so delicious and the perfect way to end the night. A great spot for conversation, yummy food and delicious cocktails. The staff is relaxed in nature but response and helpful. It got busier on a Wednesday night after midnight which was a fun treat. The hype is real about this snack bar! I've seen this place blow up a few years ago and I've passed by it many times. It's on the corner of Bathurst and Queen, looks like nothing special on the outside but once you open the door, this place is buzzing with full tables, loud music & the vibe is on point. It's a fairly tiny place with a few tables around and seats at the bar. I came here on a Friday night around 7pm and was lucky to get a table at the bar. The reviewers were right where the majority of the tables ordered drinks. The snack menu was one page with about 15 items ranging from $4-$18 in price. The portions are tapas style with Asian fusion dishes. The bar selection ranged from traditional cocktails which weren't on the menu to beers on tap and bottles of wine & liquor. We ordered the Korean fried chicken, bo la lot (my favorite Viet dish that normally isn't on pho restaurant menus - this is seasoned beef wrapped in a betel leaf) and Octos Brava. A special nondescript spot with great small bites and a wide selection of drinks. As the name implies there's only small plates here but they are very reasonably priced ($5-$8), and if you combine several of them you'll end up with a pretty filling meal. There's no utensils so be warned that certain dishes can get a bit messy. The food is fun because it spans many different cuisines - i had general tso tofu, eggplant parmesan sandwich, trinidadian doubles and an indian style aloo (potato) chaat. Excellent vegetarian selections. There's one dessert item currently and that's a custom chocolate bar they make called the snackers. There's tons of drink options - I stuck to the cocktails, for which they have no menu. Instead you can ask the staff for what type of drink you're craving and they'll make something that matches your description. The manager gave us a couple of great drinks - a jungle bird and a modified daiquiri - both were delicious! A big part that added to the experience was how friendly the staff, especially the manager (who is waiting tables and taking orders too) is. His drink recommendations were great and he took time to explain all ingredients in the cocktails and even the proportions. A final note on how great the vibe and ambiance is. To be frank, wasn't particularly impressed by this place at all. It's a small joint with a cute vibe; the servers are all dressed in mustard yellow clothing with a distinctly hipster vibe. The snack bar specializes in exactly what its name states - small bites and alcohol. I ordered the beef tartare to snack on, as I wasn't feeling too hungry. My friends ordered the special of the day (chicken dumpling), KFC (Korean fried chicken), falafel burger, and general Tso'fu. The menu said that the beef tartare could come on toast or lettuce hearts; however, the waiter serving me said that they couldn't accommodate half lettuce / half toast. I therefore got it on lettuce, and was very disappointed as a result. The tartare was small to begin with, but when served on the lettuce leaf, it was unbelievably tiny. A couple bites for $8 was just insane! The tartare was good, but nothing extraordinary. A funny story - My vegetarian friend clarified whether the two plates she ordered contained meat, and was told no. One plate was served in front of her, and by its fried appearance, she automatically assumed it was the general tso'fu. Halfway through it, we were very surprised by the resemblance of its texture to that of meat. Friend: "Tania, taste it! Doesn't it taste like meat? Impressive." Me: "Yeah, holy! Doesn't seem like tofu at all! Almost like the fake seitan meat - " Server: "And here's the general tso'fu!" -places dish on table- Anyway, the general tso'fu and KFC were both quite good bites. Our late arrival in Toronto meant we had a late night dinner although that's not so bad when your body thinks it's 3 hours earlier haha. We tried 416 Snack Bar, and I would highly recommend it! Enjoyed everything we ate. Food is meant to be eaten with your hands. I loved the eggplant sangwich doubledown so much. They coat the eggplant in quinoa (which gave it a great crunch) and use it in place of bread. It's basically an eggplant Parmesan sandwich, so creative. Also really loved the jerk whole fish where we could make lettuce wraps with the ingredients. The jerk had a strong flavor without being overpowering and the fish was perfectly prepared. Steak tartare and general tso fu (crunchy tofu in General Tso's sauce) were also tasty. There was a good selection of beers on draft. We tried 2 sours and a fruity gose. I've always walked passed this place and wondered why they were so busy even on weeknights. Now I know! This very unassuming snack bar just off the corner of Queen and Bathurst is one of the most happening places on a Monday night. It was very intimate with lit candles dotting each table and bar. Perfect for a date night, and there were many dates that night. One of the main philosophies of this bar is that they do not serve anything with utensils. Every dish you order is meant to be eaten with your hands or essentially a toothpick. My personal favorite was the cobb salad, the alu gobi and the korean fried chicken. I wish I had taken a picture of the alu gobi, because that is a traditional dish from my part of the cultural sphere, and I was amazed at how they transformed a curry dish into a bite sized small appetizer. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for light meals and quick drinks. They have an extensive wine and cocktail list that can be paired with anything on their menu. read more

Servers were kind and friendly. The atmosphere was rustic and unique. I would not order any food here, the Korean Fried Chicken was using a Chinese flavoured sauce, and it was ground or minced chicken than breast or thigh. Texture was off and taste was the wrong region completely. The beef tartare was overpriced, instead of having the tartare on the side with bread, they just smear it on the bread itself. Very little beef, and the flavour was not there. Much better tartare elsewhere. Finished off with the ube crinkle creme brulee cake, awful. Dry, spongey, no ube flavour. Holy Hipsters!!! I found the new Mecca for foodie Canadian hipsters & it's called 416 Snack Bar At 10:30pm on a frigid Friday night a bouncer was already guarding the front door like a hawk! And trust me, nobody was getting through this guy! Luckily we got in before the obnoxiously long line started forming at 11:00pm. Upon walking inside the very dimly lit and crammed space, I spied folks casually canoodling at the bar and others noshed on tapas style eats at bar tables scattered throughout the frenetic space. Honestly, this place looked more like an indie hipster lounge than a restaurant but it felt warm and welcoming for some odd reason or another. Anyways, with the one candle lighting my communal table, I quickly made my orders. It didn't take long for our first few dishes to arrive, as well... Bao - momofuku eat your heart out! This steamed bun was splendiferous! Stuffed with a fatty piece of pork belly, greens and hoisin sauce, each bite was glorious! The Bao was fluffy and soft and all I could think of was "why did I order just one?!?" Korean fried chicken - these sweet and savory bite sized morsels on skewers had a surprisingly nice kick and the meat was well seasoned, tender and juicy! Trini doubles was magnificent! Im not sure what this enticing deep fried sammie was filled with but it was superb! Great texture and incredible flavor! Steak Tartare - served on a crisp toastette, the tartare was very flavorful and buttery soft! Loved it so much I ordered two! I just don't feel the love at 416 Snack Bar. With Zero Services as there were not enough staffs to work the crowd. The place was packed on a Tuesday night! Music was really loud and you have to yell at each other to be heard. Food was underwhelming and overpriced. I have the smallest mini mac ($4) I ever have. I can probably pop the whole thing in my mouth... and it just tasted really bland... McDonald's up the street might have been a better choice. Scallop Cerviche didn't taste much better..... Drinks was reasonable priced...but the selections are really limited. Not a good place if you come as a big group as 416 is relatively small... This place is always packed to the brim because their food is great, the beer selection is on point and the prices are fair. You can fill your belly with beer and a plethora of small snack sized plates of food for easily less than $25. They have a great selection of food from Reuben sandwiches to Korean fried chicken. Everything on the menu is bite sized and it gives you the perfect opportunity to share with all your homies. The one drawback to this place though, is that it is tiny. Tiny being it's the size of a typical Starbucks, but with 10x the people inside. You'll likely be seated with random people you've never met in your life and rub shoulders, but it's all good because the solid food and alcohol will make you forget all about that. I've tried coming here a few times before and it's always been PACKED. It's a pretty small place that when I've come has had a lineup. I don't do lineups (too old!) so I've always gone elsewhere. Well finally I had the opportunity to check this place out (I came rather early - around 4pm-ish) and it was pretty empty (yeah)!. Sat by the bar and ordered drinks and the spicy handroll tuna. Now this is the only place where when it says spicy tuna it is SPICY and I loved that! Small bites to keep you on your feet while drinking. The food menu isn't extensive and it's all tapas portion sizes from what I saw so if you are more hungry get a few items. The space itself is laid back cool - the bar and a few tables with a big screen tv (was watching the Jays game). Music, good food and drinks and just the lively atmosphere makes this a great place to stop by and chill - especially after work! The servers are pretty friendly and are willing to take the time to answer questions you have about the drinks/menu. Tonight I ordered the 3 piece baos, and their small fries. Right of the bat, the baos were very unappealing. The dough did not seem properly cooked, it did appeared that it did not rise properly in the cooking process, and thus was dense and had a yellow/brown tint. If you didn't cook it properly, then you shouldn't be serving it. If you don't know how to cook it properly, then don't put it on your menu. The pork belly was cooked decently, but there was an overwhelming amount of hoisin sauce and not particularly tasty. The fish - salmon skin, was a big pass for us. After one bite, both my boyfriend and I decided to toss it out. Theres a point of crispy where its not just crispy, but its just inedible. Met up with an old friend here for a light dinner and drinks. The ambience was a little loud/hectic and dark but overall quite fun - perfect for catching up in a casual setting. The food included your standard set of bar snacks and dishes but each had a slightly elevated or fusion quality to them. For example, their chicken sandwich was generously stuffed with fried chicken that had been seasoned with asian-style spices and a spicy gochujang-like sauce. We shared our dishes and got the fried chicken sandiwch, the baos, and tartare. Overall while the food was not bad - the portions were quite small compared to how they were priced. Refreshing meat with a spicy kick on a crunchy crostini. The bomb! Korean Fried Chicken ~$6 - Definitely made fresh with a spicy honey-lemongrass sauce and sesame seeds/green onions on top. Very doughy breading similar to KFC. Foie Gras Torchon w/ Toast ~$7 - Since I looked forward to this the most, it was the most disappointing as well. The toast was thin and crispy, but a tad too salty and too many huge holes. It came with an apple sauce to balance it out but it had way too much sugar in it. The foie gras was broiled at the top alike a creme brulee, but it had the texture of pig fat because it melted straight into my mouth, making me question its contents (and yes I've had foie gras before) Food preparation was quick and efficient. Been by here a few times and can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet! 416 Snack Bar is the coziest little respite from the very hectic intersection of Bathurst & Queen, and one of the better spots on that end of Queen West. It's tucked in on the east side of Bathurst, so it's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it (perhaps part of the allure!). I don't think I've ever actually had the snacks at this snack bar, but I come for the cozy AF atmosphere, great service, and great drinks. I'm sorry, but anywhere with free burning taper candles gets an A+ from me, even if it means risking setting my sweater on fire every time I reach for my drink. That time, it was really crowded, the music was way too loud (couldn't even have a conversation with my friends), and the lobster roll I ordered was $7 and didn't taste good. Recently, I decided to give this place another chance. This time around, it wasn't crowded, the music wasn't too loud, and I ordered a bigger sampling of food off their menu. Tried the steak tartare, pork steamed bun, korean fried chicken, eggplant sangwich doubledown, infladita mexicana, and the portuguese rissois de camaro. Out of all these, my favourite was the korean fried chicken. We even ordered a second plate of it. However, while the seasoning of the chicken was well done, I found that the quality of the chicken meat was not great. It had a funny taste to it (but I didn't get sick after). The rest of the dishes were pretty decent - but nothing that stood out to me too much. Steak tartare came on toast that was burnt. In terms of drinks - the creemore amber was really good!
