I would definitely get this again! The tacos we ordered were: charred octopus, asada, and more dip. Really tasty! The deserts were amazing! Bar Tabú was cute for what we came for, which was their Sunday Funday brunch called Love Hangover, but I don't want anyone reading this to assume they have DJs and bottomless mimosas every single Sunday. We checked in with our event tickets and the staff were friendly and kind of helpful. The biggest issue was how long it took for a server to actually come over. We were sitting there for a while and I ended up having to follow up just to confirm that the section we were seated in was even assigned a server. Once she finally came, we ordered a few things. The pork belly tacos were genuinely delicious and easily the best part of the meal. We also ordered a side of bacon, but it was very generic pre cooked bacon that seemed like it was quickly heated up and it was pretty greasy. We tried the margarita flight too, and it was way too sweet for me. It tasted like there was a lot of syrup in each one, so I wouldn't order that again. Overall, the place was just ok. I'm not sure I would go out of my way to return if I'm back in Chicago, and I don't really know if I'd recommend it either. read more

Late Review I came last year for my friend's birthday and my experience was lovely. Where do I begin... the space is beautiful. I thoroughly enjoy a pretty bar/restaurant. The music? Chefs kiss. For my appetizer, I had the Lobster Flautas. Very good, but I will say there was an aftertaste. Not a bad one, just unexpected. I was going to get tacos but honesty hour.. I'm a street taco kind of girl and I didn't want to be disappointed so I went with the Rattlesnake Burger. Very pleased with my decision. My fries were swimming in the habañero aioli. The birthday girl ordered a side of brussel sprouts and they were so good I put in an order after (not pictured because I tore them down). I don't believe there was a price difference just slightly confusing. The Dj played a range of music and there was room for people to dance. I came in with a group of friends during happy hour. I was surprised to see so many empty tables on a Friday early evening. As we walked in, I noticed the amount of decorative details/Insta friendly spots within the restaurant. We ordered multiple flights, tacos and elote fritters from the HH menu. Overall we were most impressed with the mushroom tacos - so much so that we ordered another round of them. Not only did they taste good but they were a unique combination that is worthy of recommending. The rest of the HH menu items we had were good - just didnt compare to the mushroom tacos. We also ordered a couple of drinks from the regular menu (smoked pina colada was perfection) and the tlayuda nachos. I had posted a video on my personal IG and received numerous inquiries from friends wanting to know more. Unfortunately the presentation was better than the taste. Stopped in on a Thursday with a friend for happy hour. We got in around 5;15. Happy hour is 5-6pm. There were 4 other patrons in the whole restaurant. Service was pretty good to start. We started with marg flights, queso fundido and a chips and salsa trio. The queso was good, but the poblanos had 0 flavor. No spice, no taste. It was seriously lacking. The marg flight wasn't great. Extremely sour and we didn't really like the flavors except the mango. The ube watermelon tasted like cough syrup. The salsa trio was also subpar. They didn't taste fresh and the flavors were not great. No spice at all. The chips were great though, but could've used salt. Tacos were the stars. I had the Seoul pork belly and the sticky mushroom. I have been wanting to go to Tabú for a while now and finally got to go for dinner. I was in awe with the beauty of the restaurant. The decor, art and bar were absolutely stunning. The thought that went into this restaurant is amazing. There are a ton of tables and some semi private booths. We had great service and they had a lot of staff working which was nice to see. The food was 10/10, I was very impressed. I tried the margarita flight, the flavors were good but very sweet and I wish the small glasses had salted rims. Love the happy hour here for their drinks! You can do HH at the bar where if you come on the earlier side, there will be seats available. The bartenders are always super nice. The interior of Tabu is insanely cute with their wallpaper and fake flowers hanging from the wall.  Drinks: The Oro Mexicana and Purple Pina Eater are my favorites here.  Food: The grilled octopus and ceviche are great on the HH menu. Came here with a group for restaurant week - brunch menu. We were able to try a bunch of the items and everything we had was so good! The elote fritters were a highlight, perfectly fried without feeling greasy and came with a nice creamy spread. The pomegranate guac was also delicious, and while I was unsure about the salsa we got at first due to the cinnamon in it, it really grew on me. For entrees we tried the churro chicken and waffles, pork belly tacos, and mushroom tacos. DO NOT sleep on the churro chicken and waffles! Really juicy chicken on a perfect little churro round. The pork belly taco was amazing and I was impressed that the tortilla did not fall apart with eating it. I did not try the mushroom but my friend who got it loved it. Ended with churros and a selection of three sauces - chocolate, guava, and caramel. The caramel was a little watery / thin, but the flavor was really good. The chocolate was rich and the guava provided a nice fruity balance. We also did the bottomless mimosa package, and our waitress did an excellent job making sure we were never empty. The prickly pear juice is the way to go for the mimosas. All in all, it was a great meal and definitely worth it for the restaurant week price. read more

My guess is that people come later so they can enjoy the this place when it converts into a lounge. The service for the most part was good. It started out great, but as more people started coming in, the service got slower. Took about 20 minutes to get our bill so we could pay and get out. We started off with their Queso Fundido and forgot to bring tortillas. Everything else went pretty smooth though. My wife ordered their Bandeja Paisa tacos and I ordered their Steak & Frites. The tacos were really flavorful. They came with chorizo, skirt steak, plantain, Chicharron, quail egg, aji, and avocado. A lot of stuff going on there but they all went so perfectly inside the tortilla. Wouldn't mind ordering these again. The skirt steak as tender, and you get a little heat with the chorizo. My steak was cooked perfectly. It came with chipotle chimichurri, habanero aioli and a lot of fried that we couldn't finish. We also ordered a few drinks and they were all tasty. Okayyyy... to start, I've been to a lot of places in Chicago (& Suburbs) and this place was to be on the top of the list (if not #1) in terms of Customer Service. I will legit give them a 10/10 for hospitality - before we got there was a great experience and while we were there, it felt like family taking care of us. We came here for my Fiancés birthday and we were communicating with (NAME) and she made it an easy & smooth time booking a birthday event here / table. She even said Hi when we arrived at Tabu! Went out of her way just to wish my fiancé a happy birthday. Now, when we got there we immediately were welcomed by Cush, phenomenal service, advice, and went above & beyond for us (at least it felt like that in comparison to other restaurants). Thank you Cush! Juliani was our server and she was great too, knew her stuff on the menu & took care of 12+ people with no problem. There are train tracks right outside of it. The inside of tabu is very beautiful and festive. The decor gives off Latin energy and vibes. The lighting is kept very dim. Service on a Wednesday night was prompt. We were in and out within an hour. Julio was our server and he was very kind, attentive and overall great. He gave us a few minutes to settle in then took our drink order. I got the unicorn cocktail and my fiancé got the paraiso. Drinks are very cute to look at. My Siblings and I took my Mom out to Tabu for Mothers Day yesterday, & honestly i am highly disappointed. Service was not good , the server had an attitude and energy was completely off. We couldnt order off of the Normal menu , because they had a mothers day brunch menu served family style with all 3 courses. its almost like they took all the most UNPOPULAR items and put them all in this menu , my siblings and i were not satisfied at all! i did not eat anything really , i was still hungry when i got home & spent over $220, i let my mom take all the leftovers home. i just hope she atleast had a good time , but thats the only reason why we didnt say anything , we did not want to ruin her holiday. We ate what the restaurant wanted us to eat against our will. So its not like we couldve just went anywhere else because obviously every where else was booked for the holiday. During our visit in Chicago, my friend and I decided for Tabu to celebrate a birthday. This restaurant does not have parking of its own, you need to park on the street and it's not easy to find. We had to park 4 blocks away. When we arrived, we did not feel welcomed. We were greeted with a bit of hostility by the hostess. The restaurant is beautiful, the decoration makes you feel like you're in a fun, tropical place. Very insta-worthy. I ordered the steak with fries and chimichurri. I liked my meal, the steak was cooked at the right point that I asked for and fries were well seasoned. Chimichurri was okay. Friends ordered chicken rom and another raved about her delicious bandeja paisa tacos. She mentioned they were definitely a 5 star. To wrap up our evening we got the churrolette. We got the chips and salsa where you get to pick 3 different salsas - the spicy tamarillo, pumpkin seed and sofrito salsas. I got the korean sticky tacos which are vegetarian and were so delicious. Ambiance - Came on a Saturday (6/17/23) at 7 pm with a party of 4. It was relatively easy to make reservations a few weeks in advance. The host and hostess were extremely friendly and we got seated immediately. The restaurant and bar were not busy when arrived. Also, the interior is very well decorated and vibe is super fun! Food - The food was very good. I would definitely visit again (pending service issues described below) to try new menu items and cocktails. The tequila and mezcal list is pretty decent and extensive. The habanero guac (not pictured) was a table favorite. Chips were very fresh. The lobster flautas (pictured below) were okay, bug I would nothing special. Service - I am honestly not sure what was going on with the service. In addition to the service being extremely slow, 25% of our group didn't order the main dish because the waiter just walked away mid order (this of course caused dishes to come out of the kitchen at different times), wrong food items/drinks came to our table which caused further delays, we had to request silverware three times, and the bill was slow, and of course, incorrect. I felt like I was at work, trying to manage the service while keeping track of the bill. No one even bothered to apologize or comment on the delays/errors. It's always a hit or a miss when it comes to any fusion place, but I will have to say Tabú nailed it. The quality and flavor of food actually lived up to its hype. It's a 5/5 for me! At a first glance, their menu offers robust combinations of options with unique twists to their ingredients. We ordered the guac with Burnt Habanero Honey & Pomegranate and truly was chefs kiss. The Mole Dip tacos were also amazing -- I initially thought 2 tacos might be on the smaller side of portions, but don't be fooled because the tacos are served with a heaping amount of meat! The waitstaff was attentive and appreciated our waitress for offering her honest opinions on the food too. The ambience of the establishment is beautiful, and is hella roomy so it'd be a great spot for larger groups too. Everything about Tabu is beautiful from the decor to the plating of the food. I was introduced to Tabu via social media as a place to visit. No matter where you sit in Tabu it will be a vibe. Tabu looks very basic outside for now much work they have invested in the inside decor. During my visit I ordered the Mexican pizza which was large and a great bang for your buck. I will admit that the concept of a Mexican pizza, basically ingredients you would find in a taco, sounds great it is really messy. The tortilla on the top layer are crispy but once I picked up the slice it started to fall apart. I ended up just eating my Mexican pizza with a fork and a knife. I was easily able to get three meals from my dish. I don't think I would order Mexican pizza again because it was mostly refried beans and not as tasty as the other dishes I tasted but it was a good one time item. The drinks at Tabu are delicious! I ordered the G&J and I could easily see myself ordering multiple of those. As I mentioned, aesthetics is very important for Tabu so everything was plated beautifully and the drinks were present nicely. My group of course has to order the churroulette! I luckily did not get the habañero laced churro but was able to try it. The churro themselves was cooked well and they were fresh. I enjoyed the different sauces that came with the churros. They were a little runny so be forewarned so you don't dip it all over yourself. I definitely want to try out Tabu's brunch. read more
