Tons of meat that is served on a mini grill. Comes with 5 different types of protein to try plus chimichurri and lemons. For sides, we got the papas fritas and the spinach mashed potatoes (highly recommend). The spinach mash doesn't even taste like spinach but it's a beautiful green color. To end the meal, we got a traditional Argentinean cookie called alfajores. It was pretty good. It was served cold, as if they had just took it out of the fridge. Basically sirloin steak and mashed potatoes for 36 bucks. At least there was some pink in it. I got Bife Ancho- a 16 oz ribeye ordered medium to medium rare with mashed potatoes for 55 bucks. Look at the picture. That was not 16oz and absolutely nothing but well done and shoe leather. I sent it back. Tonight was my first and last visit to Folklore. My husband had been a few times previously but thus was my first time. We started with 2 beef empanadas which were good. Chimichurri was very good. Bread was good. We then had the Provoleta which was not bad. It was a little pricey at $16.00 but it was not bad. My husband ordered the gnocchi at $27.00 which was pretty pricey as well. And I ordered the milanesa which turned out to be chicken milanesa and not the traditional beef milanesa. This also was a tad expensive at $30.00. A can of Coke was $5.00. The gnocchi were quite rubbery in texture. But the most abysmal part of our meal was the milanesa de pollo - chicken milanesa. It was bland, dry and nasty tasting. I have never had a worse milanesa served to me in all my life. I sent the milanesa back to the kitchen and asked it to be taken off the bill as I only ate 3 bites and thought I would throw up if I ate any more of it. I then ordered another beef empanada as that was the best item we got tonight. They sent out a burnt empanada which was twice as cooked as the first 2 we had gotten earlier in the meal. It was disgusting so I sent it back. Finally a manager came out to the table and asked if everything was OK. At which point I told him everything that was wrong. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, we had to ask for them to light our candle on our table, but every other table had theirs lit, and the lights above our table were never turned on, so we ate in the dark while the rest of the restaurant had their lights on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I don't know if they were having them off night, but I will never be back. And finally they took the Entraña aka Skirt Steak off the menu and when asked no one could tell us exactly why. Entraña is what my husband always had ordered here and why he had kept coming back 3 other times. Frankly this place isn't worth it to either one of us any more and we know good Argentine food as my husband is from Buenos Aires and we cook this type of food and visit Argentinian restaurants. read more

First time here was in 2017/2018, loved everything about it! The drinks, the food, the vibes! But man did things take a turn after 2020. We use to visit a few times a year but once Covid hit we didn't return until in 2021 and everything was different. Our return visit we were disappointed. Went back 2023, disappointed. Now in 2025 disappointed. What made me mad back in 2021 was the removal of the el solitario dish, it was steak (I forgot what cut) topped with Gorgonzola cheese and served with broccolini. It was so good!! An item we did see that stayed and is still on the menu is El filet. It's ok. Seems to be getting blander. Now drinks. The sangria here was the best sangria everrrrrr. It had wine, vanilla, cognac, and it warmed your soul. It paired so beautifully with the steak (don't come for me lol). Welp they must of gotten tired of making it that day or something cause look at the new sangria. WHY IS THERE A CHERRY AT THE BOTTOM. Why is the wine floating. Geeze. What happened????? Also it took almost 35mins to get two drinks and we arrived an hour after opening on a Thursday, not many people. A neighbor gem! We have tried Tango Sur, El Cheand this place in Chicago, and Folklore clearly stands out as the best. It is the most specious one providing my own personal space and very relaxed vibe. The server was very attentive. We got parrillada for two and berenjena en escabeche (eggplant with various herbs). Berenjena was a big surprise for us, and it was so good on its own but was better with different meat types. Meat platter was awesome; and my wife loved the blood sausage while my favorite was sweetbread. We were on in the mood for some grilled meats for date night but didn't want to leave a restaurant smelling like smoked meats. A friend had mentioned that they had eaten at Folklore in Wicker Park a while back and we weren't sure if it was going to be too busy but knew there were also other restaurants in the area we could go to. Folklore takes reservations over the phone but we were seated immediately for a party of 2 on a Thursday evening. We started with a beer and soda along with an order of the chicken and beef empanadas that were served with a chimichurri sauce. For our entree, we ordered the Parillada ($52) which came with short ribs, sirloin, sausages, sweetbread and blood sausages and their house made potatoes. There was so much food that we ended up with plenty of leftovers. Also you cannot pass on the fresh and hot baked french bread that they brought to the table. Pretty sure I ate three baguettes with the bread. Our server was very attentive and even came and switched out the candle on our table so I could get better lighting for my photos. Walked into Folklore Argentine Grill because we wanted to try something new. The atmosphere is nice with unique lighting and flamenco music. There are two dining rooms. The first is smaller and has a more casual vibe. The second, main room is livelier but has a more romantic feel. Sat at the bar for a few minutes while they found us a table. Tried the pauloma (that's how they spell it) and it was excellent. Strong and tasty. Tried the caipirinha as well and that was just as good. We were seated in the main room and our waiter was very friendly and patient as we took some time to order. He brought out complimentary French bread which was delicious and is definitely made in house. We started with the tortilla de espinaca which was fresh and lighter, and serves 3-4. Next we had the chicken and spinach & cheese empanadas. Both were very good and I'm sure the crust is made in-house as well. Neither of them were greasy. My brother wanted to try this place, so a few of us went a couple of weeks ago to check it out. We made a reservation and arrived on time. The hostess seated us immediately, and the bus boy brought us water. I ordered the pechuga, which is grilled chicken topped with some sort of seasoning. So much so that I didn't each much of it and declined to take the leftovers. I wiped off the seasoning on top at one point in an attempt to make it edible, but that didn't help. My sister had the filet with mashed potatoes. She'd asked for her steak to be prepared done, but they cooked it medium rare. She still ate it, though, and said it was pretty good. My friend ordered the rib eye, which she also enjoyed. It came garnished with some sort of tomatoes. Lastly, my brother had the Parrillada, which is a combo platter consisting of short rib, sirloin flap, sausage, sweetbreads, and blood sausage. He liked everything except for the blood sausage. Everyone liked their food except for me, but the general consenus amongst the group was that we wouldn't necessarily return. The food was decent but unmemorable. We all had cocktails as well, which were enjoyable. The space has a low-key, chill, and somewhat romantic vibe. We sat not far from the entrance adjacent to the bar, so it was quiet. Incredible dinner! After having this on my list to check out for months, I finally got a chance to visit - very impressed! We started with three different empanadas, along with the bread and butter. I would highly recommend the ham ones - but the steak one was excellent as well. Short rib was definitely my favorite, but the chorizo and flank steak were good, too. It came on a hot iron tray so it kept the food warm throughout the meal. My boss wanted a side salad, which wasn't on the menu, and the staff was quick to come up with a solution. Great beer selection: Rogue brewery, Delirium Tremens, Chimay...I never see these beers on draft! Robust wine options and everything a very fair price.
