While I am up and down on the food at Texan, I enjoy the space as a post-work happies location for me and my co-workers. We've been in twice in the last 4-5 months, and I like the indoor-outdoor space on nicer days. The value proposition on this menu is terrible unless you come in for happy hour (4-6 PM), and even then, the appetizers are so tiny that they end up being food for one, not many. The margs aren't bad and the "pizzadillas" are the go-to for the group because that ends up being a decent deal when looking to entertain the group. I don't have any service issues, and Texan's location is perfect for "let's start here then go down the street." And, at 4:30 or 5 PM, we haven't had an issue getting space for 10-12 very last minute, although I'm sure that will change over the summer. Average stuff, elevated by a big space. I would skip this place for date night, but with a crowd, worth a look! read more

I visited recently on a rainy day and noticed water leaking inside the building and by leaking I mean it was literally raining inside. Unfortunately, I remember seeing the same issue last summer, which is a bit concerning from a safety and upkeep standpoint there's literally wires and heaters the water is pouring out next to. The music was also extremely loud, making it difficult to have a conversation, and the sound quality from the speakers was not very clear felt like listening to nails on a chalkboard. On a positive note, the service was excellent. The drink selection is somewhat mediocre, but the draft margaritas are very good. The space works really well for group gatherings, energetic atmosphere, plenty of room to mingle, and it didn't feel cramped even with a larger crew. The happy hour menu was definitely the highlight. You can get a solid amount of food for a really reasonable price, which makes it perfect for team events where you want to keep things fun but not over the top expensive. I was really disappointed with my experience. From the moment we walked in, no one greeted us or acknowledged that we were there. We ended up seating ourselves, and after waiting for quite some time, no server ever came to our table. No one took our drink order, offered menus, or even checked in to let us know someone would be with us. To make matters worse, several tables, including ours, were dirty and had not been cleaned. The restaurant appeared disorganized, and the lack of basic customer service made us feel completely ignored. After waiting without any service or communication, we decided to leave. A simple greeting or update would have gone a long way. I was really excited to try this place because the inside was so cute! The enclosed patio area was super cool and I loved the secret door when you first walk in. The staff were fine, didn't go above and beyond or anything but were good. We ordered the queso and the elote to start off and the queso was DELISH. My favorite part of the whole experience. I got a pomelo spritz and it was very very tart. I ordered the birria taco and it was alright, i've had better birria and it was pretty greasy. For what they're charging, the food should be memorable, not confusing. Also, the music is so loud you can't hold a normal conversation. Came here after a failed reservation somewhere else due to them being closed. 2nd time here but was excited because I had never had their food. Upon walking in you get a cool speakeasy experience where you enter a hidden door which is always a fun way to start out. As mentioned, no reservation, but we went on a Saturday right around 12pm so it was pretty empty. Our waitress was very friendly and she mentioned wanting a mojito so I went for one haha. It was so refreshing so I'm happy I did, but will say it wasn't boozy at all. The quezadizza was pretty tasty and great to share if you're not looking to spend too much and not starving. I do wish it had more meat and cheese on it though. The tortilla was the powerhouse of it all. The consome was not good to me and I'd recommend giving more lime slices. If country music is your vibe, this should be your next nighttime spot! You can expect a diverse crowd, loud music, and flowing drinks. Although typically crowded, especially on the weekend nights, you can usually get lucky and find a table. Good security and both and upstairs and downstairs, makes it fast and easy to head inside. Came here for happy hour and got seated right away. It was crowded but still great. The music and volume in the bar can get a little loud but the ambiance was so fun. The food was amazing. We had a couple taco and appetizers and drinks. The drinks are strong but so good. The bar has two floors, and we got seated on the first floor. Since it was late, there weren't any servers actively attending tables--people were just hanging around. I ordered drinks at the bar, and the bartender was quick and accommodating. I requested a custom mezcal drink, and she delivered a great one. One downside was that even though the servers still served drinks close to closing time, we were asked to leave promptly at 2 AM. It would make more sense if they stopped serving a bit before closing time. I've visited before with a large group, and the experience was much better. We ordered the guacamole de casa and honey chile chicken taco plate, where you can choose a minimum of three tacos per order. Super fun spot! Some friends and I stopped in here for a drink and I'm so glad we did. The weather was a rare 50+ degree February day, and with all the windows open it really felt like a summer day in Chicago. The food here is amazing but if you are looking for a quiet date night place to go to, this is not the spot lol. I sat upstairs and it gives more of a sports bar club vibe. That's not a bad thing I just didn't expect it to be that loud. They have plenty of tvs displaying sports and a Dj that spins after a certain time which was pretty cool. Our waitress was great but I didn't like that the busser kept coming to the table to take away anything we were finished with without even asking if I was finished. Most people would like that because technically it's great service but it became a little annoying to me. I appreciate great service but the hawk eye was a little excessive. Catching up on Yelp reviews. I have been to Texan Taco Bar three times with one time being during March Madness and another time being last Thursday night. A cool spot with a big bar upstairs with lots of tables. The bar is very loud and has a good amount of TVs to watch sports. They play country music, which is great as I am a country man. Texan Taco Bar is the same management as Parlor Pizza and it reminds me of Utopian Tailgate in Old Town, but bigger, louder, and it plays country music. My previous two times, I have ordered food both times. During March Madness, I had the 3 taco dinner (Shrimp, Al Pastor, and Brisket) with rice and beans. The tacos were all solid and Al Pastor had a kick to it. Decent size at a relatively good price. The tacos were solid, nothing spectacular, but definitely worth eating. Last Thursday, I ended up getting the Steak Quesadizza and my co-worker got the Birria Beef Quesadizza. We didn't realize that these were Quesadilla Pizzas and thought they were just Quesadillas so we were shocked when they arrived. But they were actually very good and I like the Birria Beef was FIRE. The beef was very flavorful and the salsa hit. The steak was solid, but the beef was way better. Super cool idea and I would recommend! Price was decent, probably about $5/taco and the Quesadizza was $20/pie. Tacos were average size, but the Quesadizza's were big for one person. Definitely recommend splitting those.
