Salmon with seasonal vegetables and pea puree

The food is pretty good. My daughter introduced me to this spot. She loves the burgers. I had the salmon with veggies and it was surprisingly good. The service was good. Eclectic atmosphere and we sat downstairs.

Great spot for a quick bite if you're taking in a show at the DPAC. Close by and an easy walk. The Blackened Salmon over brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes was most excellent. The fish and chips came with 2 pieces of fish. One piece was great, the other was greasy. Service is a little slow when they're busy, but the staff is very friendly. I would return.

What I recommend: The single or house burger with extra sauce and the Brussels sprouts Bar Virgil is one of my favorite spots in Durham, especially on a Thursday night. The smash-style burgers are cooked perfectly every time and always hit the spot. The drinks are great, the service is friendly, and the ambiance is unmatched with a speakeasy vibe upstairs and a tiki feel downstairs. It's first come, first served, but worth the wait. I've tried the fried oysters, deviled eggs, and Brussels sprouts, and the Brussels sprouts are the clear winner. Bar Virgil is my go-to burger spot in Durham and one of the best places in town for a chill night out.

Where do I begin! This very cool but small bar was the perfect place for an impromptu date night. We were seated downstairs in the "annex" bar which has a fun tiki bar vibe. We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of witnessing Casey's superb skills. My husband ordered a hurricane which was delightful but my drink was the star of the evening, The Saturn! which I am now referring to as Hawaii in a glass. Several years ago I had a drink at the Ritz in Kapalua that has been seared in my taste bud memory, The Saturn is this drink's party girl sister and I am here for it!!! We ordered a double burger and the fish and chips and both were finger licking good. The burger was a smash burger but also still juicy, the fish and chips were made with fresh cod and was so juicy and flakey. And let's not sleep on the fries, sure some may say fries are fries, right - wrong! These fries were perfectly salted with the right balance of fluffy center and crispy outer mixed with the harissa aioli that came with the fish. CHEF'S KISS!

It's been a while, and I have forgotten how cool this place could be based on the creative cocktails combined with great food options however, this visit was negatively impacted by the Bartender who chose to ignore me at my section of the bar as a solo patron and entertain his regulars at the other end of the bar. As I paid for my appetizer I mentioned to him the importance of working the entire bar to which he replied I know that, but based on this experience, clearly, he does not know that, and failed to provide the same level of service. Fingers crossed for a better experience in the future, and I can actually order more than an appetizer to enjoy the vibe that this cool space provides

Amazing ambiance, it gives me cozy prohibition vibes that I could not get enough of! Service was fast and effective with them allowing us to get drinks while we wait for our table. Food: Charcuterie: 8.6/10 Salmon: 9/10

Food and service were great!! We sat at the bar and were served promptly. The drinks were as delicious as the food. They had a wide variety to choose from on the menu.

I have been passing by this spot for years and finally my husband recommended we dropped in. It was the best decision!! We sat at the downstairs bar. Decor reminds me of Gilligan Island but a very nice vibe! Drinks and Single Burger was on point! Definitely a spot we will go back but thumbs down no pickles for burgers. Excellent service from Artson!

You know a place is special when reviews from 4+ years ago talk about how good the burger is and you go in after all that time and also agree that this is the best burger you've had in North Carolina. This burger is FANTASTIC. Both me and my partner agreed on it being the best and we will be back very often after learning the kitchen closes at 9:45 pm. The mac and cheese was also super good. We got it without bacon and it was delicious. Good mac is hard to come by these days. Both our server and the bartenders were welcoming and friendly, and our food came out quick. The bar itself is really beautiful- decorated really nice, has a really cool ambience, nice seating and lighting, and fun. I can tell it gets busy on the weekends. Great for dates and nights out. We got two fun cocktails we saw chalkboard drawings of and loved it. I'm definitely a big fan of this place now.

Heads up- they actually close at 9 PM, not 10 PM. Our server was great in recommending that between three people, we could share two bigger dishes and 3-4 smaller ones- that was more than enough to fill us up. It was a bit confusing to tell which dishes on the menu were small and which were the big ones, she did explain once and kindly did again when we requested. We were also told that we needed to order everything in one go so they pace the dishes coming out. I came here with two of my girl friends to celebrate a night of accomplishments- from graduate school graduations, to starting a new job, to traveling solo. Our food was good overall. Some highlights: the goat is a MUST have. One of the best goat dishes I've ever had- meat is so tender and juicy, fall off the bone, very succulent, extremely flavorful. One of my friends who isn't often a fan of goat, really loved it and also ranked it as her favorite dish. The cauliflower was incredible, especially with the special peanut/sesame/curry-like sauce. Incredible cocktails- a favorite were the Red Ghost (with tequila), and I believe the Spanish Citrus Spritz (I might have gotten the name wrong). The slightly flatter dishes were both the chicken dishes we had- they both felt like they were lacking in flavor, the Berbere Half Chicken and Piri Piri Chicken Wings. The chicken wings in particular didn't feel quite notable, we wish there was also a different sauce- even though it was coated with spices, it felt like it was a bit flat and the flavor was way too subtle. Similar with the Berbere Half Chicken. Lastly- the hours are really confusing. We saw online, both Google and Yelp that the restaurant closed at 10 PM. We didn't see it in noticeable writing nor were we notified in advance that they actually close at 9 PM. Because there was also another table, and that we checked online for their closing time, we thought we were doing okay on time. A man came up a bit after nine to check if we needed anything else, we were about to start on our cake (we called in advance to make sure it was okay), and then told us they closed at nine with undertones of asking us to leave. It was kind of them to let us know after we were there past nine, however it was also confusing because he checked on the table behind us and didn't tell them. We kindly checked with them since we didn't see anywhere/weren't notified by anyone about the time, and he told us that Google actually didn't let them change the times so it was now nice to know. They also brought a new dish out for them as well after 5 minutes, and it left us confused, especially since they didn't say anything to their table and only told ours. Not wanting to bother them, we packed up quietly and left, weren't greeted out but I suppose it was late. If we had known, we definitely would have respected the time and have left. I was particularly excited to come here especially because my school also has a Zweli's restaurant/cafe too that I have gone almost weekly- they're different, but I've always had a great experience there. I think the interaction here at the restaurant left me a bit off at this location.

The food and concept were great, but unfortunately the experience was a little lackluster. I made reservations a few weeks ahead of time online because this does sell out. I did the prix fixe igloo dinner experience that's $65 per person. There are four courses included and you can add drinks for an additional fee. When you book the reservation for this, they also take a $50 deposit that gets applied to the final bill. I also learned later there is a 20% service charge added to your bill too. My husband and I got there a few minutes ahead of our reservation and were able to be taken to our igloo immediately. Sadly, that was when the superb service ended. Our igloo was right next to the hostess stand and the few times she was actually sitting at the stand, she was on her phone FaceTiming someone. The Igloo Prix Fixe is advertised as a 90 minute "leisurely" dining experience, but this was way too slow of service. It took almost 20 minutes for our server to greet us and take our order. When you order, you order all four courses at once. I ordered the bay gem salad, butternut squash ravioli, truffle steak (a $5 up-charge), and butterscotch pudding. They didn't have the ravioli, so they substituted it to for macaroni & cheese. My husband also ordered a soda. Course 1 came in about 5ish minutes; however, it took 30 minutes for my husband to get his soda. It then took 40 minutes after Course 1 for Course 2. Course 3 came 10 minutes later. Course 4 came 20 minutes after that. I will say all the food was great! I would only recommend they work on food timing. It felt that there should have been a longer wait between Course 2 and 3 rather than 1 and 2. The whole experience also took a little bit longer than 90 minutes, so people should be aware in case they had plans elsewhere afterwards. The inside of the igloo dining area was nice! There were 2 couches and chairs near a space heater so you didn't have to worry about the cold outside. Overall, this was a unique experience, but I probably would not do it again though based on the service.

The igloo is decorated very modern and seemed cleaned. Would like to see them maybe Lysol it after guests especially with flu season but we used lots of hand sanitizer. We ordered our drinks and all 4 courses at the same time. Our salads came out before the drinks which is fine. We got the spicy ceaser salad and it was absolutely phenomenal. Obviously portions are small but I would appreciated a bit bigger salad. Next up after we finished our salads was the Mac and cheese (didn't have the squash ravioli) which is fine as we would have preferred the Mac and cheese vs ravioli. The Mac and cheese was SO good. Pipping hot in the middle. After that came our steaks. A but on the smaller side. Smaller then my palm but again, it's a 4 course so knew we'd be full. The steak was good. Almost like a post roast. The sauce they use was really good. Could have used another steak as it was small. They grabbed our plates and it took around 45 minutes to bring our TINY chocolate mousse out. We almost walked out waiting for it but thought it would be worth our wild. It was TWO bites. It was pretty comical. Server never checked on us after grabbing our steak plates to say sorry for the wait. Lucky for her, the 20% gratuity was built in. Overall we left happy (sorta annoyed) as you are paying for the vibe and the ambiance. Would recommend this for a special evening if you have patience and no plans afterwards. Luckily we just had to go up a flight of stairs to our room lol Our total came to $320 with 2 alcoholic drinks, one N/A and 3 steak up charges. Pretty steep. Would love to see it not a set menu and you order off one big menu what you want. I think it'd bring in more people. Next time we wouldn't do any drinks as they were $$$ and we didn't taste much liquor. A fun anniversary dinner with great views!

The best dishes were the potatoes bravas and the steak. Th rest was pretty mediocre. We had a broke of white Rioja--it went well with the food and was a good deal at $56.

Seriously easy to miss if you're strolling through Franklin. Cozy space with counter seating and…read morebooths in the back. Tried some more traditional tapas but with a twist, such as the outstanding Alubia Blanca, Gambas and Jamon. the Zanahorias were excellent, even had the Cubano, not Spanish traditional but still well done. Fortunately there was room for the chocolate cremeux, decadently rich. Loved the counter seating to view the busy prep action. Reservations are best, otherwise you're taking a chance without one. Super casual, savory dishes, and maybe my new favorite restaurant in CH.
