Yes, I took half of everything home. My friend ordered the sweet potato burrito. It was too spicy for her so she ordered the turkey club. She loved it! The ambiance you can see in the menu reminded me of a fusion health place that was unafraid to still offer a burger, fries, and wings. I had grilled asparagus with parmesan & a perfect sunny side up egg over it all to make it decadent, and I also had the deviled eggs. Feeling good, I over-indulged w an order of wings too. I figure all that is under 1000 calories and 10-15 g. carbs so yay me for my only meal of the day (keto sux). Add 200 cal of whiskey and I'm good to go. Prices are reasonable, but you can't put a price on a cool, shaded, outdoor patio that allows dogs, even if mine were the only in attendance...there are water bowls everywhere here! Just sayin, I'd pay more. It's a relaxed atmosphere, so don't be scared of some of the elevated menu choices. This is one of my favorite replete places to go in durham. They always have solid tasty food and one of the best burgers will find in town. They also have great drinks and pretty cool specials a lot of vegetarian option some gluten-free options including adding gluten-free bread to their very cool Reuben or just about anything else. A little bit pricey for a cafe concept but they have great outdoor seating and you'll wind up spending anywhere from 30 to $60 for a couple including entrees and drinks for dinner. But I'll leave feeling really satisfied and super happy. read more

The patio area was nice, even though it was a bit chilly outside it felt super warm in the inside. There were three things to choose from: all you can eat breakfast buffet, salmon, or shrimp and grits I believe. The breakfast buffet was okay, the French toast tasted like the middle school cafeteria french toast sticks and the fruit was barely sweet. Food was alright but overshadowed by the shady bartender adding 20% gratuity for no reason. Once called out his response is" you don't think i deserve to be tipped" he claimed it was a large party but instead it was 4 adults and 2 little kids who's parents ordered for them. Food was delivered incorrectly and he never returned after food was delivered to confirm anything. Wasn't a big deal so we ate the food but once the bill arrived I noticed a 20% added for taking my order and delivering my food. Lol. Nahhh buddy. I would've loved for him to return and correct my order (simple stuff) and check on the drink I ordered which tasted like complete acid. Ended up drinking the acid and my food since he was nowhere to be seen. I obviously have to walk to him to the bar since I am sitting outside in order to pay my tab because why would they walk to where you are sitting. I love to tip people who deserve my money but This type of bartender will run an establishment to the ground. After looking through the reviews it seems this establishment or this person has a history of doing this. Good luck to everyone walking and consider yourself warned. I don't understand why Geer Street has such a low rating on Yelp! I've been coming here for the last few years and my visits have always been solid and pleasant. Currently, they're not allowing indoor dining due to COVID-19 but they have a sizable outdoor patio (in fact quite larger than the inside) and offer takeout. I've done both takeout and patio dining during the pandemic and felt safe both ways. Their ordering and payment is completely contactless via Toast, even when you dine in. For patio dining, they have blocked off alternate tables for social distancing. Available tables have a numbered sign which is placed to separate the seating side from service side to further reduce contact with the wait staff and guests. We went on Saturday around lunchtime, and the patio gradually filled up but didn't feel too crowded. As for the food, The Pile is a must! Think of it as a glorious pile of fries + cheese + fried chicken + bacon + jalapeños. It comes with gravy and cheese sauce, and you get two dips of your choice (recommend the Szechuan sauce)! read more

Though several popular Durham spots were closed for MLK Day, it was business as usual at Geer Street Garden, which was warm and bustling when my roommate and I stopped by for lunch. Right away, the restaurant's brick exterior evokes a feeling of comfort and home. This was only enhanced by the outdoor dining setup, a long, Hogwarts-esque dining table where various pairs and groups sit. Our waiter plopped down next to my roommate and chatted with us as he took our order. It was like a conversation with a quirky uncle. I ordered an arugula salad off the specials menu. My roommate got the Korean fried chicken, served atop a bed of rice. They were accommodating of modifications and allergies and checked in often to make sure we were enjoying our meals (we were). I had the Szechuan fried chicken and fried rice, which was tasty, colorful, and savory. I like the addition of pea shoots, and the portion size was large. The Ruben was good but not remarkable. The first time I went there the food was pretty good and the staff seemed nice , second time my experience was completely different. It felt like they where way under staffed and stressed and took it out on there customers. Me and my friend are both 21 year old girls who are chill and not high maintenance at all , it took a while for us to get our food 1 , witch was fine because we where chilling and just yapping,but as soon as we got it it felt like we where being rushed out because they where busy. I like Geer Street. I have been here with large groups and small. I have been here for brunch (all you can eat buffet!) and dinners. The food is really good, and the service is nice, as well. The parking is a pain. The lot is very small, and when we went a few weeks ago we had to circle the neighborhood for 30 minutes before finding a spot. This put us in the position of then having to wait an hour for a table, since they don't take reservations for parties of 2. We went across the street to Cocoa Cinnamon and got tea while we waited, but we were getting hangry. The ambiance also isn't my favorite. A friend recently told me "it's a damp, smelly bar" and I don't disagree. On our most recent visit we were seated outside (with the plastic porch curtain things and heat lamps), which was fine. We were at a communal picnic table, which is what they have a lot of, and is never my favorite seating situation- I don't go to dinner with my husband to sit with strangers. Luckily we were on the end, and not crammed in between groups. But we were still next to a rowdy group of people who kept slamming fists on the table and laughing (not to mention the B.O. from aforementioned heat lamps)- I know this isn't the restaurant's fault, but just something to keep in mind when dining at a communal table. We went specifically because we heard about the special Chinese New Years menu. I was really excited- I thought they would have high quality dishes, or maybe something cool going on at the venue to celebrate this holiday. I was a little let down to see that the only different thing going on was a bunch of cooks standing near deep fryers out front, and a menu of Chinese dishes that I could have gotten from China Palace on Garrett Road for a lot cheaper. It was delicious, but I was just a little bummed that it didn't live up to my expectations. All in all, I won't be headed back soon because of the parking and the bar-like atmosphere. However, based on a recent visit, I think the food has really improved over time. Everything I tried was delicious. Overall, the hush puppies are definitely my favorite! My fried chicken was delicious -- crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The portion was also enormous! I ate till I was uncomfortably full and then still had leftovers. While it's not the crazy stacked high kind it was a good balance of meat sauerkraut and sauces. The bread was nicely toasted and stout enough it didn't get soggy before I inhaled it. Fantastic! This was the perfect place to eat during my first trip to Durham. Great neighborhood with kind of a cool vibe. My friends ordered a burger and a chicken salad, along with some jalapeño cheddar hush puppies. I had the tofu bahn mi sandwich with fries. My food was pretty darn good! I also tried the house sangria and we shared a bottle of wine. I love that there are multiple vegan options on the menu! The staff was friendly and helpful. Our table was a bunch of old friends catching up, and the staff didn't rush us to order or leave when we were done with our meals. Total bill for three people was about $120, which is reasonable with two appetizers, three entrees, a bottle of wine, and three cocktails. Highly recommend! read more

We don't eat here all that often but wanted to give them some takeout business during COVID because they are part of the Durham Free Lunch initiative that gives out free food to people in need. We used the app to order the tofu banh mi, the Szechuan chicken sandwich (although I apparently clicked on the "no bread" box by mistake), and some sweet potato tots. We pulled into the little parking lot and followed the instructions to enter through the side door to pick up our food. So, we usually joke that we have a collection of plasticware at home from all the takeout we do, but upon opening up our bag of takeout at an outdoor public table, we realized they didn't give us any. Oh well. We took our order home to eat instead. I enjoyed the chicken, which was sneaky hot, but my wife said her banh mi was "okay."
