I was diagnosed with a rare eye condition that was in remission and had been receiving treatment at UC Davis. Unfortunately, after my health insurance changed, my new plan no longer covered UC Davis. Soon after, I began experiencing double vision in my left eye and urgently needed to see an ophthalmologist, so I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Barbara Arnold, who was listed as an in-network provider. From the moment she entered the room, it was clear that she was not pleased to see me. I sensed her discomfort might be because she wasn't familiar with my rare condition. She kept insisting that I return to UC Davis, which was frustrating since I had no other options. Instead of focusing on my double vision, she spent most of the appointment criticizing my weight and making comments about my clean shoes. It felt like she was more interested in berating me for my appearance than addressing my vision concerns. Dr. Arnold scheduled a follow-up appointment for six months later and told me I needed to lose weight, suggesting that my double vision would disappear once I did. Feeling anxious about going back to her, I talked to a friend who encouraged me to see a different doctor. I eventually made an appointment with a new primary care physician at Sutter, who referred me to a ophthalmologist. They conducted an MRI, MRV, spinal tap, and blood tests, which confirmed that my rare eye condition had returned. Because Dr. Arnold didn't address my condition early on, I now risk losing vision in my left eye due to her inadequate care. If she wasn't familiar with my situation, she could have told me that and mentioned a few doctors she had in mind, so I could check with my insurance to see if they were in-network. I could have seen a competent doctor who might have prevented this vision loss. I believe Dr. Arnold needs to reconsider her role in medicine, as her approach to patient care is lacking. read more

Barbara Arnold MD needs to retire she's Burned Out. Had a bad experience with her. She's rude and makes you wait in the exam room for 45 mins. Her staff was nice and professional, but not her. This is my 2nd time being there and my experience was the same last year. No way I'm coming back. She's not the only ophthalmologist around. read more

I have been a diabetic over 50 years. My regular doctor was unavailable and I needed an evaluation of a bleed in my right eye. I was directed to call Dr. Arnold's office. I couldn't get into her office until late afternoon due to her full schedule. I was patient and waited without complaint. Her staff are professional and treat everyone with respect. After the usual eye tests and pressure readings , I met with the doctor. I commend Dr. Arnold for her professionalism, expertise and candidness. I needed another laser treatment and received it. She is fantastic, in my opinion! Normally, doctors spend a maximum of 15 minutes with individuals. Dr. Arnold goes well beyond those parameters and performs a comprehensive examination and explains all medical jargon in a simplified manner during the examination as well as during the procedures. At this point in my life, I need a doctor like Dr. Arnold! Kudos for her expertise, supportive staff, honesty and dedication ! read more

STOP!! STOP!! STOP!! Really, really reconsider about going to this lady! I had a 1pm appointment and she finally comes in WITH NO APOLOGY for making me wait FOR OVER 1.5 HOURS!!! How the fuck does she get so far behind??!! Plus, its so obvious that she DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE PATIENTS BUT RATHER THE MONEY INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!! It's like a ride in Disneyland, you wait for hours to get on a 1 minute ride! OH, OH, and then she Charges you $40 for a Prescription!!!!! Its not enough that she makes money from the insurance but she has to squeeze even more from the patients. I think we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel here. She has No personality for this. I have been going to Dr Arnold for a long time. Today I was very unhappy with her. I was left in the room for 45 minutes before she came in. Then while she was taking care of me 5 different people came in to ask her questions and she was writing on other patient's charts. This was my time and I think it is very rude for other people to come in the room when she is examining me and talking to me. She didn't even know that the girl had put the drops in my eyes to dilate them I had to tell her. I ordered glasses $110.00 while I was out they called to say I didn't pay for something. Long story short.. the wait here is ridiculous even when you have an appointment. Cleanliness is a major issue here.. office looks clean but my concern is I have yet to see Barbara (eye physician) and the assistant (big gentleman) wiping down the machine/tools for the patient and ESPECIALLY sanitizing/washing their hands before touching the patient. I don't know where their hands have been and since they are working with the patients eyes I think it's very important that they need better practice for client protection. Updated review- Here for my mom's third follow up. We were not seen until 10 when our appointment was at 9:10. The nurse who checked my moms eye pressure wasn't very pleasant. When she walked us to the exam room another female who was doing the check up on my moms eye to test her eye sight... she was talking to her very loudly as if she was deaf. My mom speaks very little English.. she do understands.. but how are you going to roll your eyes when my mom can't read the letters??? SHE CAN'T SEE!! she would raise her voice at my mom and telling her to try but everything is blurry!! She did not sanitize her hands before putting eye drops in my moms eyes. It was very frustrating. I work in a field where sanitation, client protection and cleanliness is a priority. And again... I see no one washing their hands/sanitize in between patients.. and wiping the tools and machines before and after each patient. Looks can be deceiving but the people working on the patients are filthy. read more

This is a medical doctor not an optometrist according to the medical board, furthermore she will charge you for you're RX. if you don't purchase her eye glasses in the office. 45.00 dollars for your RX really hurts people in a lower socially economic status. Dr. Arnold and her team were very helpful during my visit. I had not been to an eye doctor in years. They were patient and explained the VSP process and procedures. While there, I had to have extra tests done due to being a glaucoma suspect. Dr. Arnold and her team went above and beyond on extra testing to send me home with peace of mind. I was there in November 2018 and had little to no wait while I was there - comparable to other medical offices. To clarify on other reviews - the equipment was cleaned prior to the team using it on me. Highly recommend. The staff were able to accommodate patients in a number of different languages. read more

Dr Arnold has been my doctor since the 80's and would never go to anyone else. I was one of her first patients and she has been there for many eye problems including cataract surgery. Avoid at all cost unless you want to spend your whole day waiting on them. We've come many times and have waited many hours past our appointment time to be seen. We have to clear our whole schedule just because we know we're going to be here all day. When I asked the girl at the front desk why it takes so long she said they were down a person, so why book so many appointments? She just shrugged her shoulders and said sorry. Starting from the time I called to schedule this appointment I thought the ladies there were rude. Whoever I spoke to to schedule my appointment treated me like an idiot because I asked if I still needed to bring my sunglasses even if they weren't prescription. Then when I arrived the ladies at the front desk we not very welcoming or friendly. I got taken back and a lady who didn't introduce herself started asking me questions and doing an eye exam. Although she was nice I wasn't quite sure who she was at first. She did my exam and then I sat in the room for about 30 minutes before the dr finally came in and when she did come in she was so rude and didn't even really have an answer or any reason for why I was having problems with me eye. I will never go back to her. She was useless and the whole appointment was a waste of my time and money read more

In 2010 I saw Dr. Arnold for an eye exam, I was charged a $35 copay I should have been charged $25, I was issued a refund of $10. I saw Dr. Arnold again this year, I was charged $25 for my copay. After several months I receive a bill for $10; I go to the office to question the bill, I was told they didn't charge me enough for my copay, I tell them what I was charged in the past. I was told the insurance company accepts a $25 copay for exams only and that I had a medical problem (which was a complete lie) and my copay was $35. It's pretty pathetic when a Dr's office has to lie to an insurance company for $10!! read more

I should have listen to all the reviews about the wait time. The first appointment was at 2:30pm. We came 15mins early but didn't get done till almost 5pm. The appt today was for 9am. It is not 11.45am and we are still waiting. The staff and doctor here do not value your time. Their excuse is always the same...system down and short staff. On top of that, the staff are not all that friendly. If you have time to wait then by all means go ahead and go to this place. But if you value your time then find another office! read more

Very professional ~ All of my preliminary testing was done by a very knowledgeable staff....Dr. Arnold herself was on time and performed a thorough exam. She spent a good amount of time with me...explaining all along the way what she was checking for. After my exam I visited their optician where I was assisted in choosing the perfect pair of frames! I arrived at Dr. Arnold's office at 12:45. My appointment was for 1:00 P.M. I was called in at 1:30 and an assistant who didn't introduce himself did a quick eye exam. After that I waited and waited for the doctor and didn't leave the office until 3:20 P.M. which is way too long even for a first visit. When the doctor came into the room, she didn't introduce herself either. Where I come from, that's what we do when we meet anyone for the first time. I'll be seeing 'another' eye doctor next year. They charged me $30.00 for the prescription as thought their prices for glasses were way too high and told them I'd be purchasing glasses elsewhere. Let me begin by saying I dont usually write reviews unless it is a very very bad experience. This is my second bad review ever. I was a new patient. I would never ever recommend this doctor to anybody!! My appointment was scheduled for 9am and at 11:30 I was still waiting to see the doctor. I waited for an hr and a half in the waiting room, then waited for another hr and half in the exam room for the doctor. I have never ever waited that long for a doctor. Im not the only person who waited that long. Patients in front of me waited for 2 1/2 hrs just to see the doctor! They were also complaining. When the doctor finally came at 12pm (3hrs after my scheduled appt!), she was obviously in a hurry and spent 10 min with me. I looked at the time just to make sure. She rushed out of the exam room so I was extremely upset for that unprofessional care. I called her back to inform her that its not right to make any patients wait almost 3 hrs to be rushed out! I was being extremely patient until the end when she rushed out to see the next patient and didnt even explain why the long wait nor answer all my questions. She was very unprofessional. It is ridiculous to make any patient wait this long without one explanation and not answer all their questions. I will never come back here! Please be warned. Lady at the main desk isn't very nice or welcoming. But the one in the back smiled and greeted me as any human would. Like most of the reviews have stated, these people including the Doc don't care about the time they waste. After she had put the dilation drops into my eyes, she told me she would return. I have had my eyes dilated many times and know how much time is required for the drops to kick in. So I waited. And waited. And waited. During the examinations, they don't close the doors, so I could hear the doc chatting and laughing with some other oldies in the room next door about sketchers, painting, and vacations. I was in that room alone for about 30-45 mins!!! But did I blow up and give attitude to the doc for keeping me so long? No, I didn't. Instead I smiled and tried to make small talk but she wasn't having it. But that's not it! Worst part was when she was checking my eyes with that fancy machine docs put on their heads. She was forcing my head back and shining a bright light into my eyes. She didn't pause to let me dry my tears. All she said was this light is filtered so don't worry, while I was let rivers come out of my eyes. She didn't apologize or anything but that's fine. It only gets me mad cuz when she was next door with the oldies, I could hear her saying sorry for whatever the hell it was. Rude doc, wouldn't recommend read more
