I was here when I was younger and they were in the smaller suite but the same plaza until they moved down the plaza into another suite. Dr. Huey is great but has always been my doctor. The two ladies who have been working there for awhile have been great as well. They have been short staff since Covid but made it work, so please be patient and understanding as businesses as great as this is hard to come by. Parking is a breeze. They are located in a shopping center and there is plenty of parking. This is a good thing as my last optometrist had only street parking, which is tough. Back then I used to walk to my appointments so it wasn't an issue. My optometrist is Leeanne. She is very personable. I've been coming here for the past 7 years or so. She only works on Wednesday and Thursday so it's hard to fit an appointment into our schedule. We took time off today to get our eye exams. I go with my husband and we get back to back appointments. It's nice to have someone to carpool with as we are in Sacramento and the Optometrist is in Elk Grove. Today I got a contact fitting. It's not covered by my insurance and I was charged $25. She gave me a week's worth of contacts to try to make sure they are the correct prescription before I order a 6 month's supply. So far the contacts are feeling good, but it's only been 2 hours since I put them on. They are more comfortable then the ones I had a few years ago. These don't make my eyes tired or feel dry. I looked at glasses while waiting for my husband and found a pair I like and took a picture with them on. I like to shop around to make sure I find the glasses I like with a price I can afford. So, I'll take my time before I settle on a pair. My old frames are working well and I can see fine out of them so there is no rush. The optometrists doctors are great, but the 2 star reviews are for the prescription glasses and contacts shop. It's unfortunate that I will not be getting my glasses and contacts here after 12 years with them because there is something not right with now they "calculate" your copays and deductibles. I always got my glasses and contacts here until recently when I opted for another place the last 2 years. I purchased the highest vision insurance and my insurance hasn't changed in years. Each year here, I keep having to pay more and more and I ended up reviewing my vision plan and what this place charged me. I ended up going to another optometry shop and my insurance covered almost everything that Laguna Family did not! Laguna Family claimed I had to pay some copay and fees etc, and the optometry shop at UC Davis health center said everything was covered. I am glad I went with my gut. When I first came here a couple months ago I was treated well and got my prescription glasses. A couple months go by and my glasses that I have been wearing since I got them there a couple months ago.. they have snapped randomly and through out the course of having them there has been cracks popping up on my glasses. This past weekend on the 9th of December my glasses snapped and I was an hour away and drove by myself and had to get back home because I work the next day. How else am I going to drive back home if I can't see, so I super glued them back because of an emergency. But apparently that voided my warranty so there is nothing they can do. So what was I supposed to do? Drive back home blindly and go to work blind? And to think they would take care of me, they are not understandable and completely selfish for their part. The Doctors work very quickly and effectively. I was taken back 10 minutes before my appointment time even started. Was done within 20 minutes. I continue to see Dr Shinfuku because he makes me feel comfortable and well take care of. As an existing patient I was able to be seen same day for my eye discomfort. Had to update my review because honestly, dealing with the woman at the front desk is exhausting. I'm not sure if she hates her job or just has the wrong personality for customer service, but don't expect her to be helpful or kind. Would be a 5 star review otherwise. read more

I'm going to preface this review that I'm a RN and work at a hospital, with experience in how medical billing works (20 years in medical industry). I was really disappointed in this optometry clinic for multiple reasons. I was there to have my young child for an eye exam. I chose this clinic instead of my own optometrist because I thought it would be 'family friendly' - little did I know it is not the case. First, we were on time for our appointment, but didn't get seen for at least 30 minutes. The clinician was not personable and spoke to me with his back turned away, which didn't leave a good impression on me. I would not say the clinician was particularly behaving differently for my child versus an adult. He addressed most of his questions to me instead of my child. Additionally, while the location had a decent selection of glasses for children, we found a pair that my child liked, and we had it set aside (at the instance of the staff). When we were leaving, we were asked if we wanted to go ahead and select those frames. The frames had a sticker that said $151 on it, then the man told me lenses were $65. I told him I'd think about it and needed an invoice with the proposed cost. He handed me a blue post it note with the words 'UC' (usual and customary) $415, and then another scribble 'you pay $35'. I'm not sure how $151 + $65 = $415 but that is super shady and deceptive practices. I know they're upselling the cost so they can maximize the reimbursement from my insurance company. This practice will just end up resulting in higher co-pays and deductibles for the patients. I was not happy. I left with 'I'll think about it' with the intention of ordering frames online. I ended up order glasses from a reputable Japanese company that I've ordered for myself and my child was so happy with them. We had tried lenses at their store a few weeks ago, so I had an idea I wanted to order from them. Then I got a phone call today from Laguna Family Optometry telling me 'my glasses are ready for pick up' - I was confused, I did not order the glasses! The lady on the phone apologized and this just further confirmed my suspicion that this practice acts to maximize profits. I did not agree to buy overpriced glasses. They even charged my insurance, which caused my claim for the online Japanese frames to get denied. She did the right thing and called my insurance company to retract their claim, but since my claim for my online pair was denied, the claim will have to be re-submitted and now I have to follow up on this. I need more contacts and was looking for an Optometrist to see close to my home. I choose Laguna Family Optometry not because of the negative reviews but due to the positive reviews. I called and made the appointment, called a couple of times before my appointment to ask some questions regarding my first time there and the receptionists were very polite and professional. The day of my appointment, I was greeted by the receptionist, asked to sign in and fill out some paperwork since it was my first time. After filling out the paperwork, I was taken back to a room to run some tests and then asked to go sit back in the waiting area. I did sit for about 10 minutes but that's okay as I know doctors and eye doctors get busy. I was seen by Dr. Yuke and she was so polite and professional and didn't make me feels nervous during my appointment. Well, until I came here that is! I really liked Dr. Leanne Yuke. She's knowledgeable, understanding, personable, and very kind. The office staff are all very personable and helpful. They offered assistance and also let you wander around searching for that perfect fit! ( Without feeling pressured ) This place has a huge selection of glasses. Big name brands to different price points. I must have wandered around too long. I ended up buying a nice Saks 5th Ave one. I also had my old Oakley's updated with new lenses. I even bought a sports pair for work. ( A nice heavy duty type ). I am trying out the transition lenses. Bro, don't even get me started on this place. First of all, Dr Huey is cool but I honestly cannot recommend this place with the stream of bad experiences as a supportive patient of three years. This place is NOT detailed oriented. They don't take down sufficient notes to know which contact lens they have you try on and do not remember which brands they send you home with. Not only that, I was finalized with the incorrect prescription at one point which costed me. I brought my prescription to Costco, had the glasses made, and they were completely off. So I had to be seen AGAIN and get my prescription corrected and resend the glasses in. Ugh. On another occasion during this month, my experience with Jan was rather disappointing. I was wanting to order colored contacts and Jan promised to call me back to update me on things but she never did. I keep having to call back on my own to do this and she's just all talk. Now that the end of the year is approaching, I feel a bit frustrated because I waited on her when I could've saved time bringing my business elsewhere. I also asked her if she can just e-mail me my prescription and she just said "Can you come pick it up? We're understaff". Like how long does it take for you to scan something and e-mail someone? I've been going to Laguna family Optometry for the past several years and what I've enjoyed about the place is the consistency of my visits. I don't think anyone considers a visit to the optometrist as something to look forward, instead it's just an essential trip to update my prescriptions or refill my contact lens. Setting that as my criteria, this place has met my expectations year over year. The staff is warm and friendly and the optometrist has a no nonsense get in and get out approach which I appreciate. I remember my first time getting contact lens and putting them in, that the staff was extremely patient with my bumbling attempts as I squirmed touching my eye. Thankfully they were extremely patient and I find myself poking my eye with more confidence lately. The selection of frames is quite extensive and the location is pretty spacious. I visited recently during the pandemic and the service was still on par from what I expected. They were not as busy as I normally see them which was nice as it allowed me to easily social distance. I made my appointment over the phone about 3 weeks ago, receptionist was very patient with my while trying to set a date that would work with my work schedule. Got a appointment confirmation call day before. Receptionist at check-in was nice & got my pre-screening done within 10 mins. Had been dreading this day for years now. Dr. Huey was chill, we chit chatted during the exam. I felt comfortable. He didn't BS around. I didn't feel rushed even though I had the last appointment of the day at 630, half hour before closing. I tried to set up an appointment online but never heard back from them so I had to call in...they were able to get me in for an appointment within a week. Got there, the place is clean and they have a decent selection...I just started browsing around and no one offered to help me (it was empty inside and all employees just talked amongst themselves). Appointment went pretty quickly, they did get me to pay for a test that wasn't covered by insurance and they kind of snuck it in there when I was right about to do the test so it wasnt like I had a choice with whether or not I wanted to do it. I have nothing but rave reviews for my family's recent visit here. Both my mom (80) and husband (50) had appts with Dr. Leanne Yuke and had the best experience imaginable. My mom hasn't seen an eye doctor in a few years and was nervous about being told she needed to do a bunch of stuff she didn't want to do. Dr. Yuke was incredibly patient, kind, and answered all my mom's questions in a caring manner. My mom talked about how she felt listened to, appreciated the thorough explanations offered, and what a lovely personality Dr. Yuke had to make her feel so heard and seen as an 80 yr old women. She has since called at least 3 friends to talk about how great her new eye doctor is and recommending they go see her new dr. My husband as well had a great experience and was impressed at how engaging the conversations were and how much information was shared. Vs. just being the patient following the dr.'s directions. They both commented on how great the office environment was and how much it had a family-feel to it, versus just a regular eye dr. office visit. I'm sure the other doctors are great too, but from my family's perspective, Dr. Yuke provided top tier care and I'm grateful for their positive experience. read more

We started coming here since their previous location. We are always happy with the selection and service. But wanted to point out that Marcus is a major reason why we come back. He has been with this office for years and just knows what he's doing. When we walk in and let him know that our pair of glasses are bent, crooked or off. Recently I went in and ordered a pair of Oakley prescription glasses, the man told me 5-7 days, I said cool no worries. Now, ordered on 6/4 and called on the 18th after not hearing from them. The receptionist said "no, we told you 7-10 days" I said, sure, but either way you're still late. She said they would call me back. The guy who sold me the glasses calls me and says "the lab is behind because there was a crack" I said well it's already late will I get them tomorrow? "No, Monday we'll call you when they arrive" I asked well, it's already been more than 14 days can I cancel? No. Alright. It's now 630pm Monday, still no phone call-email-text, still no glasses. It's definitely been a bad experience this time, switching providers once this is done. The actual optometrist is really good! The eye doctor I see is only here a few days a week, but it is so worth it to work around her schedule..She seems to be the only one that can get my prescription correct!! Her name is Dr Yuk. I booked an eye exam here for my mom because two receptionists on the phone said that Dr. Huey speaks Cantonese. At the exam, I was surprised to learn that Dr. Huey only spoke a little bit of Cantonese and was not fluent. That would have been fine, if he were actually polite and caring. Instead, he was rude, surly, and made condescending remarks in a blatantly discourteous tone, including "Has she never had an eye exam?!" and "Does she not read often because she doesn't know how to read?" I translated his instructions to my mom during the exam, but instead of being patient and understanding due to my mom's language barrier, Dr. Huey was plainly annoyed and barked his instructions at her in English (and in words that didn't sound like Cantonese). He put his hands on her head/face without her permission and tilted her head for her over and over again, because he was too impatient to instruct her on where to look. He got very ill-tempered when we asked questions, and he answered abruptly. I also found it disconcerting that he didn't inquire about my mom's medical history or ask at all about any symptoms of eye problems - aren't all optometrists supposed to ask these basic questions during an eye exam? It was very clear to me that he does not care about his patients. I have always been taught to show respect for authority figures, so I bit my tongue and didn't call him out on his rudeness. However, it was stressful for me to watch someone treating my mom like that, and I was *thisclose* to unleashing my full-force b***h on him. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat in the exam room with them, ready to let all hell loose if he crossed the line. That's how bad it was. The moment we stepped out of the exam room and were in the presence of another employee, Dr. Huey became much nicer - go figure. I hope to save other people from the trouble of wasting their hard-earned money on an optometrist who doesn't give a damn about them. So, if you are looking for an optometrist who treats patients with DIGNITY, RESPECT, and PROFESSIONALISM (is that too much to ask?), go elsewhere. read more

I found this place on Angie's list with good reviews and thought I should give them a try. I called to make an appt for an annual exam and on the day of my exam, the service took FOREVER! When I first got there, it was the typical filling out insurance paperwork, etc...of course, it'll take 10 mins or so to complete. It also didn't take too long to see the doctor, which was a plus, BUT dealing with the guy who was filing the claims to my insurance was awful. While I was waiting for him to make up his mind on what was covered under my benefits, he ended up helping another customer....like seriously. Can't you finish with your current customer before you go to the next one??!?!? I wasted 30 mins waiting for him to finish helping that lady who cut in front of me... When I needed a pair of contacts but my current prescription expired, they were able to supply me a pair to hold over until my next scheduled appointment. During my appointment, the doctor and the staff were very friendly. The doctor offered me the option of switching to daily contacts versus monthly ones since I don't wear contacts often. He gave me two different brands to try and told me to call them when I've decided which ones I wanted. When I was done trying out the contacts, I gave them a call and had the pleasure of speaking with Jen. Jen helped explain my insurance coverages and the costs of the different contacts. She was super helpful and informative! When my contacts were ready, Jen left a voicemail notifying me that they were ready. I came in a week later and picked them up. I've been going to Laguna Family Optometry for over a year now and I have had nothing but positive experiences with them :). read more

I notice a lot of reviews blasting Laguna Family Optometry for poor customer service. Some of that is on you. You cant expect to call at 6:45 in the evening when they close at 7. How sharp are you at the end of your workday? The other theme I saw was it took too long to be seen. In any medical type office emergencies can occur I have rescheduled appointments when I found I was waiting to long and do so in a heartbeat, If you choose to wait that's on you. They have some of the best customer service I have seen in a long time. When ever I break my glasses or loose a screw there is a lady there that fixes them no problems and no charge. Dr Huey is very cool, and on several occasions has saved me money. Most recently my prescription sunglasses. They cost me a grand total of $80. There is an gentleman that works there that found deals from their suppliers that dropped the cost of the lenses (and with my eyes that's saying something) We found a good sub $100 frame that was marked down. Even cooler They made a mistake with one of the discounts. They initially quoted me something like $45. Their actual cost ended up being $123. Because it was their mistake they gave me the option of cancelling out or we could split the difference. What's really good is they showed me all the discount paperwork and where one expired and what their cost really was. I guarantee no other place is doing all that for you and you can forget about splitting the difference. Most places would have pulled some BS to make you think your obligated to pay the whole price for their mistake! For the rest of the time I live in Sacramento or until they get stupid (which I highly doubt) I am going to Laguna Family Optometry for all my optical needs! read more

Doctors/staff: Both doctors are thorough and professional. And the staff are gorgeous, pretty, and very thorough and professional. They know their stuff! :) I am completely satisfied with my eye exam visit with Dr. Larry Huey. Dr. Huey is absolutely thorough. Roundabout time of Orders: My Frame and lense arrived 3 days after my eye exam. They're never late, if not earlier. They never over promise and undeliver. I got my frames lenses in 3 days, after my eye exam. They are so wonderful. Exam and Insurances: I found them through my company's VSP insurance plan, although they accept all kinds of insurances. You might want to call them and ask what they currently accept. I requested that my order get billed through my insurance the same night, and the staff had no problem doing it. And, it was billed the same night. No worries, everything was smooth. Frame selection and prices: Their prices of the frames are not expensive at all and they have the most trendest frames in their store. I was able to pick out a pair of frames with no problems. These guys are great! Quick and efficient. I was in and out of my eye exam and fitting within 20 minutes. They are extremely helpful in making sure you get what would be most cost effective for you. They even let me swap out two boxes of old contacts that I could no longer use after my prescription changed for two new boxes! AND they sent me home with another trial pair after my follow up exam since it's going to be a few days before my new order gets in. They have a wide selection of frames ranging from your higher end Versace, Gucci, Dior etc. to your lower end budget friendly frames & everything in between! I just went in for an eye exam for the first time at Laguna Family Optometry, and I received nothing less than great service. All my other previous optometry offices are pale in comparison. I was examined by Dr. Huey who did a very detailed and thorough examination. He made sure I was updated with the progression of my vision. I went through several tests which made me feel really reassured that was I getting an accurate examination. Afterwards I received helpful assistance from the receptionist, Kathy, with choosing the perfect frames. She helped me make sure I chose glasses the fit comfortably and looked right. She made me feel very comfortable with her humor as well. My previous optometrist office would only examine me for ten minutes and offered me very little assistance when it came to choosing frames. The staff at Laguna family is very nice and friendly. They're definitely social and strike up some pretty good conversations. I didn't make an appointment but they probably prefer that. I just walked in on a pretty busy day and they were able to see me. Dr. Huey is a pretty chill guy and doesn't get all quiet during the eye exams. You know most doctors will just tell you to keep your mouth shut and listen to what they ask you to do. However we were mashing it up about sports and colleges. It was a relaxing atmosphere. They have a wide variety of glasses and brands even though the space is small. Most places I've been to don't have an area dedicated to sports or frames for an outdoor sportsman. They did and I'll probably pick something up for the summer time. And yes they take VSP. The staff in the front is nice too. In fact they told me if I did a review, they would buy me a bowl of PHO. There's a Pho restaurant adjacent to their store. Hahaha! You owe me Laguna Family Optometry! JK! Anyways I recommend this place.
