I've been a patient at this office for 15+ years, but things have gone downhill for the last couple of years. I originally would see Dr. Chin, but my last couple visits, I saw Dr. Veronica. Both times she was rude and completely dismissive of my concerns. She was gaslighting me when i shared my concerns. I was fed up of her services and I eventually went to a different optometrist who actually listened and fixed the problem right away. The front desk staff are also rude and unprofessional every time I call. They definitely need training on customer services. This office up charges for everything. It honestly feels like a scam. I spent way too much money on prescriptions that i could have gotten cheaper somewhere else. Since switching to a new optometry office, the experience has been night and day. The staff is friendly, the doctors are attentive, and my prescriptions are much more affordable. It's frustrating and disappointing to see how far this place has declined. Switched insurance and decided to try this place but I will not return. The front desk lady was rude and it just seemed like she hated her job and didn't want to help. She was having a conversation with a coworker right in front of me and didn't acknowledge me. And then when I was picking out my glasses the optician was very forceful in making me choose the most expensive frames and telling me how the "cheap" frames did not match me and made me super uncomfortable. I have been going to this office for 10+ years. I have noticed a significant drop off in quality, care, and professionalism over the years and today was the last straw. I had an appt today to renew my contact lens prescription to be able to order new contacts since I have run out. They called me early this morning (day of appt), and let me know the Dr was sick and that I would need to reschedule. Which is fine, things happen... when I called back to reschedule, they wouldn't be able to see me until the following week, which okay - I've worked at an optometry office before and understand. So because I needed contacts for work either way, I asked if I would be able to pick up trial contacts to get me through to the appt next week. The first girl I spoke to, Gina, was very nice and willing to work with my request despite the policy being that my CLs rx was expired, but also understood they are the reason my appt was cancelled in the first place. She put me on hold and Shirley picked up the phone and immediately started yelling at me and was aggressive. She started by saying she's worked there for 31 years and that since they switched to corporate it's different - blah blah blah and essentially unwilling to work with the request, while shaming me for not having seen them sooner... but completely forgetting that I was supposed to come in today but THEIR DOCTOR was sick and cancelled my appt. I guess in 31 years she hasn't learned what customer service is - I was doing her job when I was 23 and have never spoke to a patient like that. I ended up telling her to cancel my appt since she continued to try to talk over me and told her that I will be going elsewhere before hanging up the phone. It is unfortunate that such a popular and quality drs office has taken such a drastic fall since the original drs have left. I don't believe it has anything to do with corporate and more to do with the fact that they have miserable people running the office and it reflects in the business they are doing. You used to have to wait months for an appt and now you can get one the same week bc there has been that much of a fall off of patients. Sad to leave a place I have been going to for years but necessary after how I was spoken to and not met with any understanding for a situation they created. Went to this establishment because VSP referred me and assured me that I would have no out of pocket fees (due to a prior experience the day before with one of their Premier Edge optometrists). My exam was ok. The doctor was nice. She did explain that I have a cataract, which was very odd because I had the same exact exam (retina scan) on the same exact brand of equipment the day before at the other optometrist's office and that doctor said my eyes looked great. Anyway, she asked if I wore my contacts to the appointment and I said I hadn't and then she proceeded to tell me that she had to see me with my contacts in my eyes (wish they would have told me that before I came). Also told me that I would have to come back and pick up my contacts and then wear them for a period of time and then make another appointment to go back and have her look at my eyes again. Ok so I have worn contacts for over 40 years. I don't see why a trial period is necessary. So I was looking at a total of three appointments just to get my contacts. Never had to do that before in 39 years. Then I get to the technician, who proceeds to tell me that I owe $95 for "fitting fees". I told him that I was told by VSP that there would be NO CHARGE and I even had a case number from VSP, but he refused to listen and just (rudely) kept insisting that I needed to pay them $95 if I wanted my prescription. Basically holding my prescription hostage and not willing to listen to me. He kept insisting that VSP would not cover anything except the exam, which they would have covered it in my case because of the experience that I had the day before. If he would have shut his mouth and listened to what I was saying and perhaps did a little research with VSP maybe we could have avoided the problem. But he just kept getting flustered and finally got up and walked away waving his hands around. I went outside and called VSP to verify what they had told me and they confirmed it and told me that they would call the optometry office-which they did-twice to try to intervene for me. But they said that the office told them that they have strict procedures that they wanted to follow (the VSP representative said it was unusual what they were doing and it didn't make sense to her).Then VSP said that the optometry office told her that they didn't want to work with me anymore so we left. The VSP rep. apologized on behalf of this office and the bad experience that I had there and then told me that because of this awful experience with Laguna Creek Op., I could go to any other doctor either in network or out and they would cover it. So, based on this experience, I would not recommend this office. They seem to have an agenda and that is to collect money and they do not appear to care, to listen, or to make any allowances even if the insurance company is asking them to. Been looking for a local optometrist and decided to try this place because it's close but I should've just stayed with my current Dr. there's no transparency here. I paid for a contact lens and frames fitting but then when I asked for my prescription for clear contacts they wanted to charge me an additional $85 on top of what I already paid. I've never had this happen with a contact lens fitting, for years I've only paid one cost for contacts and one for frames . Never have I been charged one fee for colored contacts and then a separate fee for clear contacts and it would've been nice to know his before my exam because I would be aware of the cost and make an informed decision before switching Doctors. Also if you like nice frames, the selection here is not great. read more

This would be zero stars if I could give it. Do yourself a HUGE favor and stay FAR away from this place! My family has been loyal customers for over 20 YEARS, seeing Dr. Chin, but ever since they sold to VSP, everything has gone completely downhill. The customer service is absolutely horrendous, and they've piled on all kinds of ridiculous extra fees. This has been nothing but a nightmare! Here's what happened: they LOST the Oakley glasses my husband picked out. The glasses were $300, and after insurance, he only owed $81 out of pocket. They called him saying the glasses were ready, but when he went to pick them up, they told him their system showed they had already been picked up. Instead of trying to fix their mistake, the staff just argued with him, claiming he had already gotten them. They said they'd investigate and call him back, but of course, they never did! He called to follow up, and they told him he had to either pick out new glasses or get a refund. They couldn't reorder the same glasses, and he was stuck with whatever they had in stock. Fine, so he made an appointment to pick out a replacement. Then, the day before his appointment, someone calls to tell him that he couldn't get ANY glasses until JANUARY. Are you kidding me? When he explained the situation, she said she had to talk to the manager. The next day, at his appointment, one of the staff tells him he can pick ANY Oakley glasses, no problem, and there's no fee per Laurie, the manager. A few days later, the SAME staff calls back and says my husband now owes another $150 ON TOP of the $81 he already paid, because the replacement glasses are $350. Oh, and of course, there are additional charges because they can't send the Oakley glasses to VSP's lab. We are beyond furious. It's impossible to get any kind of help from Laurie, the manager. We asked to speak with her, and she NEVER called back--only had the staff reach out to us. No apology for the mess they caused, no acknowledgement of the inconvenience, and to top it all off, they BLAMED my husband for taking "too long" to come in. UNBELIEVABLE! This used to be Dr. Chin's family-run business with an excellent reputation, but it's been completely ruined since VSP took over. My family of five, along with over 20 other family members, will NEVER return. I'll make sure to warn EVERYONE I know not to waste their time or money here. This is absolutely disgraceful. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been going here for like 15 years literally when I started wearing glasses. My yearly appointment is always great. Dr. Yuji Shinfuku is always amazing. Very patient, genuine, cares about his patients and very thorough in his care. He's always providing me with extra contacts until my orders come in if I order with them. I usually buy my glasses here and will order contacts elsewhere (online) that's cheaper. Now that I have kids, my 7 year old who now needs glasses is going to him. He is so patient with my son. Also, it's not easy having a child focus for the entire visit to find his prescription! Lol However, Dr. Yuji is just so good at what he does and nurturing that it's super comfortable. My son tells me he really likes Dr. Yuji. I trust him 100%. The staff here are always so nice as well. I can see why they're always booked out. Just make sure to book way in advance! read more

Been coming here for over 10 years and I highly recommend it. There are 3 optometrists; Dr. Shinfuku & the Chin brothers. I see Dr. Shinfuku. He's super nice and great at answering any questions I have. The office is clean and they clean stuff multiple times (after you leave and also right in front of you before they have your face touch something). For covid, they have you leave the glasses you try on in a tray or on the counter so they can clean them before someone else tries them on. They have occasionally had some not great front office staff, but I haven't had any issues with any staff in a long time. They are all friendly and helpful. I will be disappointed when they retire. read more

My son has been coming to this office for almost two years now. Dr. Bruce Chin is his doctor and he absolutely loves being seen by him! He looks forward to every check up, more so than his pediatrics doctor and dentist. Dr. Chin has always been very warm and kind with my son, sparking up a conversation that really helps him open up. If you have a child who is acting nervous about an eye check up, Dr. Chin will be sure to turn that frown upside! :) While also explaining things in a simple manner to a parent, he also does a fantastic job having the child understand the "why" too. I recently had my eye check up with Dr. Chin, you know two birds with one stone? He was extremely helpful and thorough with my eye exam/check up. Turns out I have astigmatism, yikes! However, this did not come off as bad news from Dr. Chin and he shared that there were some different contacts for me to try out. These specific contacts would help sharpen my vision better rather than just sticking with the regular contacts I had. Instead of pressuring me into a quick decision of whether I should go with the regular or special contacts, he gave me the option of wearing the special contacts he had in the office (don't worry, brand new) and trying them out for a couple weeks to then come back with my final decision. This experience with him put me at ease feeling extra confident and comfortable with what he sees as a benefit to my eyes. I am truly pleased with having him as not only my son's eye doctor, but mine too now! read more

I am excited to say that Laguna Creek Optometry will customize any glasses or goggles for you. I brought a new pair of Oakley frames (Hall Pass) with plans to have them customized by having prescription lenses installed. I asked my eye doctor if he could measure my pupil distance and add it to my Rx. I explained that I was going to have my new Oakley frames customized as they did not carry this brand at his office. My doctor then told me that if I bring in the frames they could customize them in house and have them ready in 1 week. I was delighted to hear this, as initially my planet having this done at Oakley headquarters would have taken approximately 3 weeks with shipping. Needless to say, when Dr. Wong told me that he could do the same thing in 1 week I had the frames overnighted to me and viola...had my new custom Oaks in 1 week!! read more

Having worn eyeglasses for most of my life, I have been seen by many optometrists during those years. Ever since moving to Elk Grove in 1991 Laguna Creek optometry has been there for me. Laguna Creek optometry is located at 5050 Laguna Blvd in the Bel-Air shopping center. The office is very clean and pristine with a large selection of eyeware. Comfortable seating in the waiting area with magazines to catch-up and rewind. The staff is very professional and friendly making your visit a very pleasant experience. With their up to date equipment they are able to give their patients the best possible care. Dr. Chin first noticed the rise in my eye optic pressure. Having me tested on many instruments(Ocular Digital imaging field testing), it was determined I had glaucoma and if not treated I could eventually lose my eyesight. He highly recommended me to see the best glaucoma specialist in Sacramento. We take seeing for granted until it is taken away from us. Surgery was performed shortly after with the best possible results. Now Dr. Chin and my specialist work hand in hand in making sure that my glaucoma is under control. Glaucoma is a disease that damages the eye's optic nerve and can result in vision loss to even blindness. There is no miracle cure for this disease. Once it's determined that you do have this disease the only thing they can do is to keep it from getting any worse. Making sure there is no further damage to the optic nerve. Glaucoma has no symptoms so have your eyes checked regularly. I trust Dr. Chin and his staff completely! I highly recommend his services. He is not only my doctor but my friend!!! read more

I am very disappointed as I took time off work to do this, and they changed it without my consent or talking to me. They tried to say they spoke with me about the change, and they never did. Second, I went to the business to look at their selection of frames and they had the worst selection I've ever seen. They hardly had any to select from and what they had were ugly. I needed to find a local optometrist. My previous one was so awesome and I wanted to find another that was the same caliber. After reading all the Yelp reviews, I decided on Laguna Creek Optometry. I was browsing their frame options and Nancy offered to help me. She looked up my insurance and helped me choose the frames which fit my wide face. She chose two frames that I LOVED right off the bat. She scheduled an eye exam for me the following week and set aside the frames I liked. My appointment was with Dr. Bruce Chin. His assistant did the preliminary prep before my exam with Dr. Chin started. He was extremely personable and explained the exam and results in an easy to understand manner. He answered my questions completely and I never felt rushed. He also fitted me for contacts and explained that with my astigmatism, contacts for daily use might not be the best option for me. However, he still gave me some options to try out and scheduled a follow up in a couple of weeks. Then his team helped me pick out my new eye glasses. The whole process was very easy. They explained all my options and didn't pressure me into anything I didn't want. They told me it would be anywhere between 7 - 10 days until my glasses were ready. Exactly a week later, I got a call and a text and I picked up my glasses the next day. They took their time to adjust it exactly to my liking. Now I see why appointments at LCO are booked out farther than other offices in EG. I went in for an eye exam. After experiencing some fuzziness to my vision this last year. Doctor Chin and his assistant did a very through exam. Doctor Bradley Chin was great. He explained everything he was going to do. I also felt like the dilation process was better than other times that I've had it done. (I didn't have the extreme sensitivity to sunlight as long and was manageable with my own sunglasses. Have a driver just in case. Everyone's tolerance is different) I did opt for glasses, for my minor nearsightedness that I will only wear as needed (driving/sporting events, etc) but Dr. explained and showed me why contacts would not be beneficial for me, despite my preference to NOT wear glasses. I have had previous doctors prescribe contacts and waste my $$. I appreciate his honesty and not trying to just make a profit. LCO offers a great selection of frames... I quickly found a pair I really liked and are comfortable to wear. They offer a variety of styles and various price points, and no one tried to up-sale me. Let me start by saying my mum and I have been clients of this optometry practice since maybe 2007? And for good reason. All of the doctors and staff are so kind and professional. You can't pick a wrong one amongst the three doctors, truly. They aim to be efficient and never rushed, always making sure that my questions are answered and I'm informed of my options. Most recently, I had a fabulous experience with Rita in their office. I went in initially to drop off frames to get my prescription put in, but being that I have poorer eyesight than most my lenses are THICK. We discussed the fact that those frames might not be the best fit for how thick my lenses would be so Rita, everrr so patiently, helped me explore other options. I left my frames there for Dr. Chin to check out and for me to sleep on my decision. Also, I've been happy with all of the frames and contacts I've gotten here in the past too! I do wish they would expand because I think they're the best but at the same time I value how cozy and no-fuss the place is. If you're looking for an optometrist, try Laguna Creek Optometry. My work provides me with VSP benefit and it is valid for this optometry. This location is easy to miss. They don't have a large sign or banner, so I actually drove right pass it the first time I came here. It is located in a plaza with other shopping centers, this one is next to a Raley's store. I came here for an eye exam to get contacts, they are appointment only (3 weeks wait usually). On my first appointment, I got the time confused and was running 30 minutes late, but due to my mistake the location was getting ready to close and gave me a call to check on my whereabouts. I mentioned I was on my way but since I failed to appear at the set time I had to set another appointment and wait another 3 weeks again.. I thought about just going elsewhere, but ultimately decided on waiting the extra 3 weeks for my exam. When I got tested, Dr. Bruce Chin was so friendly and made me feel like a kid testing his vision for the first time. Even the staffs here are always greeting me with a smile. :) With my VSP plan, I got my contacts and exam nearly paid in full, it was just a couple bucks out of my own pocket! When the contacts were available to pick up, I did not realize my voicemail was full so they sent me a letter through the mailing address I provided. I gave them a call back after reading the letter and was able to pick it up the same day! Thank you Dr. Chin for an amazing examination procedure and thank you Laguna Creek for the amazing prices on everything. read more

Ordered a pair of glasses and after getting them adjusted 3 times within two weeks and was told they can no longer be adjusted, I was told the frame was too big. So they said they would order me the smaller frame and its on back order possibly 25 days. Ok as long as I can use what I have for now because I can't see. The Doctor said that would be fine. Well fast forward two months because of the closure..I get a call yesterday saying to come in and try on the smaller frame. So I go in at the right time, let them know I'm here for my appointment, took my temperature and then they asked for my info. So Shirley says Im there to try on new frames, I said no I'm here to try on the frames that were on back order that came in. She goes and gets them and has me sit down. I explain to her that I had--had these ones I have on adjusted 3 times and that they were too big is the reason why I am getting the smaller frame. I explained to her that I had been waiting for a while because of back order and also the shut down. That seem to have made her mad. She says there was nothing we could do, very irritated. I then said over the last two months I have actually been here twice to pick up my kids glasses that were done, one even on back order too. Still just making conversation. While doing this I have a big mask on my face, so I'm sure its muffled. Shirley then starts talking about ok I'll need to take your glasses, you cant have those. I explained to her I can not see at all, I was told by the Doctor I can use them for now, until the news ones came in and that I'd have no reason to keep them at all. She then looked up my insurance, then started tossing paper in the little box and along with tossing my supposed to be new frame in..not gentle at all and then raising her voice saying fine fine fine you can keep those and I will send these out. I said I'm not going to keep them Shirley, I literally can't see. I am disabled and have chronic health issues that have made issues with my eye sight. She then yells "Jesus Christ" as I was walking away. I asked for her manager. She said there was none there today. I asked her why a person in your position would act that way, why would you yell that? She says there are so many people in here complaining over the closure and you just kept going on and on about your kids coming in here. I said wow you didn't even listen to me. And I thought we were just talking. I picked up glasses, that is what I said for my kids, not with them. I was only making conversation and told Shirley it is absolutely unprofessional to act in that manner. She said I don't ask anyone who works with me. I said really because I said I needed these frames for now and you started throwing my new frames and papers and yelling. She said no I did not. I said you got a camera in here..watch yourself. She apologized said she didn't mean to act that way because other customers and her co workers are now starring. I told her she was the one who sold me the glasses in the first place. She said well then I should have know they were not the right size. I explained I am a consumer and by glasses for medical reasons and you are trained to know what a proper fitting is..and then said yeah your right. That behavior from Shirley is absolutely unacceptable. Just because she is obviously having issues with customer service and people being upset is in no way okay to take her frustrations out on me. After a nice call to VSP, I will be calling the manager tomorrow. read more
