This place is truly the best! The service is amazing, and every staff member is helpful, kind, and welcoming. I've been coming here for years and have seen Dr. Shah every time. Courtney at the front has always been amazing and has never made me feel pressured into anything. (Side note: if you can't say no to the add ons, that's a YOU problem.) They are simply just presenting options and doing their job. There was only 1 time that I said no to any add ons because I had the same thought I'm sure many people have "do I really need this?" and once I received them, I realized how much it makes a difference! They offer a huge selection of frames, from basic styles to high-end designer brands - there's something for everyone. I've tried other places after moving away from Elk Grove, but nothing compares. We like Dr Shah. He's funny and share good information. However, the lady named,Stacy who helped afterwards with frames and payment just ruined the whole experience. I told her I like them to charge the bill to Eyemed via our health insurance. Her attitude was terrible. She said that our copay will.be a lot more which I said that will be fine. She still went ahead and charged it via VSP while the the front desk person was checking for us. Our copay with our health insurance for the eye exam was $5. Then she said she didn't know. Why was she so pushy and made me and insisting that we use VSP. She made me so angry. read more

I often times feel as though things are being ordered and/or up-charged for the sake of billing insurance and wanting to get additional money out of the patient. Many people may not feel comfortable (or question) declining the services or upgrades to glasses, especially when the people are so nice. This can lead to money being spent that isn't absolutely necessary. This is why I continue to return, although I do not know that I would recommend without the above caveat. read more

Dr Shah has been my family optometrist for 12 years now, he's taken care of our eyes very well! I still remember Dr Shah consoling my young self that glasses can be some of the implications of growing older, in a way that a 12 year old can understand. He is always seen enthusiastic, passionate/knowledgeable in his field, and has a humble character. From in the door, and out, the process is quick and efficient. You're not kept waiting long. As a patient, I remained well informed about what was going on, and felt involved in deciding treatment plan(s). This gives great insight on how good of a provider he is! He doesn't pencil-whip together a Rx and call it a day (ahem, big box stores), but dives deeper into what the patient needs for their use as an individual. My family have been going to Axis Eye for all our optometry needs for almost a decade! They are open 6 days a week with varying times which makes it convenient with my schedule and driving the kids around. They have a large selection of frames and lens choices. We appreciate that they find the best pricing for the insurance plan. They even give us information about rebates! Their staff are super friendly and makes the effort to get to know their clients. Axis Eye have improved their staffing and workflow to speed up waiting and exams. We typically have our appointments on-time and do not wait more than 10 minutes for drop-ins and pick ups. This is a small office in the front area, but very nice. A modern decor with clean lines. The ladies at the counter are very helpful and nice. I first walked in to check the place out and asked questions before I actually made the appointment. I made the appointment with Dr. Shah. First...they had you fill out the paperwork. ( Normal questions @ any appointments ) The eye test that my insurance covered was the basics. If I wanted a few extra checks I had to pay a little extra. I opted for an upgrade. During the eye exam, the doctor asked several questions to make sure I was happy. He had great manners. Very personable and polite. So when I was picking out my frames...the doctor picked out a few for me to check out. My old frames seem to be too tight by my ears. I checked out several other frames to make sure what looked the best and comfortable. The poor lady who was taking care of all the paperwork and my frames was super patient with me. Big BONUS for not making me feel rushed. Oooooh...if you check in on Yelp, you get a free "Eyewear Care Kit". Pretty awesome!! It consist of a bottle of eyeglass spray cleaner and a cleaning cloth with a bonus eye glass screw driver. Yippee!!! Overall...I loved my experience. Great staff. Very professional. Both Dr. Shahs are friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. When you get an examination, each of them spend some time with you, thoroughly asking and answering questions. You do not feel like you're moving down the assembly line, like you may at other offices. Some of the other reviewers have noted that Dr. Viraj likes to talk. That's true. He's a social guy. If that's not how you roll, though, Dr. Ami is also very competent and caring--she just doesn't talk as much. Between the two of them, you'll be able to find someone who is excellent and your level of communication comfort. As for buying glasses there...If your prescription doesn't change too much, the drs. may say that you can make do with your old glasses for another year. They have lots of choices that work with your insurance, and they do try to steer you into frames that fit your budget and work best with your insurance. After a terrible experience at Stanton Optical, I decided to try Axis and I'm soooo glad I did. The doctors are amazing! The doctor helped me pick the best glasses for my skin color, face shape, and eye color! Talk about a guest experience, this place has it it all. I will never change my eye doctor again! After going to Kaiser optometry, I decided to get a second opinion. I've always had really bad vision in one eye and it has never improved. It actually got worse. Dr. Viraj Shah is the only doctor who made me feel like he genuinely wanted to help me. He recommended to wear contacts in one eye and I've been wearing it for two years now. Yesterday, I came in to get new sunglasses. The staff checked me in and advised I look around while waiting for the doctor. I noticed that all staff were wearing masks and hand sanitizer was available for the patients. They also advised me after trying sunglasses to place them on the table so they can wipe it down (glad to know they are taking precautions seriously). I chose some sunglasses that were okay but I did not really love them. It was my turn for my eye exam and after, I met with another staff member to go over sunglasses. To my surprise, she already had several selections of sunglasses that she thought I may like. This saved me so much time because I am very indecisive. From the many optometry places I've been to, I have not been to a place where they take care of their patients like this. Then, it was my turn to see Dr. Vinaj. With the many patients he sees, he is pretty good at maintaining a relationship with his patients. The most amazing news is that my eye has improved! From my first visit to my last visit, the staff has always been exceptional! The doctor has such a positive and encouraging outlook that it is shown within his staff. They are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. They are always willing to make it work for you both with your health and finances. It is a very family oriented environment. I am very appreciative with the staff and Dr. Viraj that they have gained my trust as their patient. During my visit, I got new polarized sunglasses, a year supply of contacts, and a mail-in-rebate! My first original experience a year+ ago was good. This past year, NO SO MUCH!! How in the world are you going to notify me THREE different times in over a span of 6-8months and each time my wife and myself came in to pick up my new Carrera frames YOU GUYS HAD IT WRONG. First time wrong frame, 2nd time wrong model, 3rd time, RIGHT NOW as I'm writing this in the parking lot. You tell me to come up, and no frames once again, just let he case! You would think after inconveniencing me THREE times, you'd offer credit to pick a new pair same price range maybe different brand. NOPE!! Just. Sorry.. that's not a good customer experience at all! This was my 2nd annual eye exam with Dr. Viraj Shah, and his interaction with you as a patient shows how much he enjoys what he does. He's cheerful, very observant and explains what is going on with your eyes. In my case I have dry eyes, and he recommended 2 eye drops, one to deal with the dryness and the other for allergy relief. To show me how it would feel he placed a drop in each eye for dryness, and it immediately helped with the dryness and my vision was clearer. He treats you as more than just a patient, he also treats you as an individual. He is personable, friendly, and funny. The rest of his staff is very nice and professional, from the receptionist who checks you in to the lady who does the eye tests and Optomap and then to Julie who patiently helped me pick out frames. They are all there to help you take care of your eyes. I'm truly impressed at how well run Axis Eye Optometry is and how each person working there respect you as an individual. I was dreading this year's eye exam because I am now *shudder* 40 years old, and had begun the classic sign of aging: holding anything with small print at arm's length to read it. I couldn't imagine using little reading glasses ALREADY! I was reassured once I had my exam with Dr. Viraj Shah, who discovered that my previous optometrist in St. Louis had overcorrected my contact lenses. He found a more comfortable pair of lenses, replacing my uncomfortable and thick Coopervision lenses with soft, permeable Bausch & Lomb ULTRA contacts and reduced the power in both eyes. Voila! My eyes felt more comfortable and most importantly, could see close up without the aid of reading glasses. Although most eye exams are dry and boring, I appreciated Dr. Shah's friendly and witty manner, which felt like I was chatting with an energetic friend. He was able to converse on an array of subjects which astounded me. His mind flitted and fluttered from subject to subject seamlessly, all the while explaining how and why my eyes see as they do. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and satisfied with my experience at his office. I brought my partner with me during my second visit and he was also kind to her, incorporating her into his ever flowing conversation. She liked him so much that she will be his next new patient. The friendliness does not stop at Dr. Shah, however. His staff is all very warm and helpful, from the front desk associates to the opticians. I was especially impressed with the optician who broke down the cost of my visit, including the frames I was eyeing, and ensured that I did not spend 1 penny more than I intended. Yes, initially she did try to upsell me when she could, such as suggesting add-ons to a pair of glasses that would never see the outside of my home or hotel room, but once I insisted on keeping them cheap, she helped me save money the best she could. I found the prices at Axis fairly comparable to other optometric offices. I have VSP and chose frames that would be fully covered. Yes, I had to forgo the super-swanky frames but got a decent pair of Armani Exchange frames with lenses that cost about $80. My contacts had a rebate which reduced the cost of a 1 year supply to around $60! My contact lens exam was not covered at $60, but my medical dilated exam was, which is the case with most if not all optometrists' offices. For me, the cost is fully worth the quality of eye care I receive at Axis. read more

I've been here twice now and both times I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Viraj Shah. He kind of reminds of a Dr. House (from the TV show), except with a specialty on the eyes. The first time I saw him he was laying the smack down on all the stuff that was making my eyes drier than they really should be..cracked me up but for good reason. The doc clearly cares about his patient's health and he definitely thinks about your eyes for both short & long-term care. He helped me test out some different contact lens to maximize comfort and minimize irritation. I like the fact that I wasn't rushed to come to any decisions.. I definitely appreciated that cause I really dislike feeling rushed by any healthcare professional. I switched to Axis Eye last year after being dissatisfied with my optometry office of twenty years. Parking is easy as they're located in an large Raley's shopping center. Appointments are easily made over the phone. Text reminders are available if you choose to opt in. I find them helpful. They contact you via text when your glasses are ready as well. Dr. Shah is second to none. He's engaging, friendly, helpful, intelligent, and thoughtful. I pay less here than my old office for an better quality exam. If you hate getting your eyes dilated as much as I do, I highly suggest their other option. While it does come at a small cost, it's worth it in many ways. For one you don't have to deal with your eyes being dilated. Secondly, it allows them to keep better track of your eye health. The office is clean and well organized. The staff are friendly and helpful. I didn't feel rushed at all when I was looking for new glasses. I'm a little picky and they were patient with me. They're the perfect example of an business that doesn't take their customers for granted and treat people the way they'd like to be treated.
