The staff was exceptionally rude to my 71 Year Old Mother. We are an arrangements for my mother to consign clothing and they reprimanded her for not bringing her clothes in on hangers, even though we had in the past and were not asked to do so, when we made the appointment. They told me, to have her arrive right before ten because they take donations two days a week, open at ten, accept limited items and fill up fast. We arrived before ten and placed several boxes by the front door. The employee arrived at 9:58, demanded to know why we had placed the boxes there, barked "We do not accept clothes not on hangers" and "The store isn't open yet." She walked passed us unlocked the door, entered the store and left us standing in the parking lot. Locked out. We were never greeted, nor given time to speak. We will not donate, nor shop in your store again. read more

I visited here recently and bought a couple pieces that looked (and smelled) like new. I got a trendy top in current style from old navy, and a lovely sweater from a high-end department store brand. Everything was well-organized and the staff was friendly. Look forward to going back. read more

I read the 'not recommended' review on this site and others as well as ALL reviews and chose to ignore them. Bad move. Never again. Discourteous, rude, sullen and unprofessional people is totally right. I'd say read the fine print but there isn't any and it wouldn't help if there was! As I said before, never again. read more

I go here all the time and always seem to walk away with 1-5 items. The quality is great, I get compliments on my purchases frequently and I proudly say they are consignment purchases from Barbara's. My friend turned me on to this store and she also has the same luck with purchases. We are in our 30's and find casual clothing to work outfits. I would definitely recommend stopping in. read more

Giving this owner even one star is more than she and her daughter that run this store deserve. There is no option for "0" stars but something had to be given for me to proceed with my very honest review. I have shopped in the store on occasion for about two years. Sometimes I find something to purchase, never more than an item or two. I have taken some very nice clothing in to consign on about a half a dozen occasions. Nothing much if anything ever sells. Or --- so I've been told. My things have already been donated when I go back in -- or so I'm told. There is never much traffic at all in the store. I do not know how they keep inventory in their store from consigners. Their new bee consigners must all be similar to myself. Trying with no success & then deciding enough is enough and stop wasting valuable time in consigning with this store. Why I say I do not know how they remain in business is: BECAUSE: they are absolutely two of the least professional women I've ever encountered in a service business, they are always without fail dressed and look like overweight slobs themselves, they are both totally rude to the degree of almost mean, both mother and daughter are so unfriendly and lack any personable pleasant personality at all in dealing with customers both myself and observing their interaction with any other customer that just happens to be in the store, they neither one have any fashion sense of any kind for themselves & the clothes and shoes the turn away being higher fashion than either of them can recognize. Both mother and daughter need to have a business where they are behind closed doors without any inter action or association with the public. I admit I'm a slow learn and an idiot myself to continue to subject myself to these two very rude women. Enough is enough for this thoroughly disgusted customer. read more

The employees at this location each time I've visited simply do not show any respect and display an incredibly low amount of professionalism. You can sometimes find some good items in the store, but keep in mind that you're giving business to people who do not seem to care about running a professional, happy-going business. Sad. read more

Really poor service. I usually am not one to complain, especially if rudeness might be explanatory, but over my several visits to this store, ownership has really proven to be sub-par. In one instance when I was last there about a year ago, an employee--I presume to be a younger relative of the owner--was extremely rude to me while I was consigning a few items right in front of the owner. The owner didn't even do anything! I love supporting local businesses--that is, the ones that also support you, the customer. read more

I have brought nice items into this business numerous times within the last eight years. I have also purchased many items at Barbara's. I don't know why I kept going there, perhaps because it is so close to my home and just got lazy. Very few of my clothing items ever sold there and if you are a single day late to pick them up- if you wish to have them back, they tell you that you are too late , that they have already been donated. I found about a dozen of my items the last time I did business with them still hanging in their store! This is LYING and just plain bad business! Oh, it is also your responsibility to go through every rack piece by piece to locate them. Furthermore, the mother/daughter team that own the store will never budge to so much as open the door for you, even when they see you struggling. They have been very rude and unappreciative of my business. I know two other women who also stopped going there for all these reasons. I now take my items to two other shops in Des Moines and they sell quite well at both places. They also either gather my unsold items for me or at least help me locate them quickly' understanding that I wish to donate to the charity of my own choice. I will NEVER return and wish I had found the other shops a long time ago. I guess it's also my fault for being lazy. I do own that much. Thanks ladies for listening. read more
