Cute little deli with groceries. We gave this place a try because Johnny G recommended it. You purchase everything by the pound. We ordered the meatballs, pierogi, and potato dumplings. We had to buy the sour cream from the cooler. The food and the temperature of the food was perfect. Everything tasted well seasoned and delicious. So glad we came here. The price was higher than expected but coming here every so often will be on our list! They have two three seater inside tables and two out tables as well. read more

I came here after my emissions test since it was 7 mins away. It was about 40 mins after they opened at 9 am. They have typical dry goods and a deli counter. They have 1 or 2 tables to sit at. This is mostly a grab and go. They have breakfast specials as well as fresh food to take home for lunch or dinner. The place is run by these older Polish women. I ordered a goulash and gravy sandwich which was pretty good. The meat was tender and the gravy was flavorful. I ordered veal meatballs in dill sauce, potato pancakes, and kotlety mielone (Polish meat patty). The potato pancakes were okay. I think I should have waited until they brought it out. They tasted like they still have that fried oil taste. I liked the veal meatballs in dill sauce and the meat patty. Both were tender to cut and seasoned. The dill sauce went well with the meatballs, I actually cooked some rice to go with it. The meat patty was different. I never had that before from a Polish place. It's made from pork, thick, and juicy. It is very hearty. I would come back to grab more items. They also have desserts. Paczkis, and other snacks. Prices were not bad. This place is an amazing wonderland of grocery items and tchotchkes. I only stopped in for some fresh Polish as I had heard it was the best in the area (lived up to the hype). Yikes! That's all I can say... I am Polish and thought since this is close to work, I'll try the $6 lunch. I got the stuffed cabbage, potato pancake and bigos (hunter's stew). Everything was terrible. The bigos was the WORST. It was so over salted that it was inedible. The stuffed cabbage wasn't seasoned well and the meat tasted old. The potato pancakes were dry and tasteless. Needless to say, I won't be coming here anymore for lunch...or dinner....or anything. Plus, the store itself is a gigantic mess! This review is based on one visit, and one meal. It was my birthday and I really wanted stuffed cabbage (I can't spell the Polish word). Barbara's has hot served meals (Yeah). Two decent sized cabbage rolls came with a small bit of tomato sauce and 2 sides. I picked mashed potatoes and a kraut with some kind of meat. The warm kraut was very good. The cabbage rolls were good and acceptable. They had a lot more rice than I like but they were good - not enough tomato sauce. The potatoes were not good - I tossed them because they were real potatoes but made with water. You can always tell water instead of milk in taters. I wasn't thrilled and I appreciated that they are local. The store seemed fine, but I must say I was a little intimidated with the polish menu and signs. I am half Polish by nationality, but I only say a few words in Polish. Service in getting my meal was fine. Checking out, I felt faceless. The clerk never even looked at me. read more

Purchased Paczkis for Fat Tuesday and it was a huge mistake. My family and kids were so disappointed in the taste and the fact that they were mainly dry bread with very little to almost no filling. I messaged the shop via messenger and basically the response was " I apologize, these are hand made". As if being "hand made" trumps the fact that quality was extremely poor. I was confused. I didn't even get offered to return them back and get a new batch which I probably wouldn't have accepted because they were that bad. Perhaps they are stingy overall, I have never been there before. It was disappointing to receive poor customer service when the issue was messaged on top inedible food for a popular holiday. I heard from another family in my neighborhood that they were also disappointed with their donuts, so it wasn't only my batch apparently. If this is standard practice, in my opinion it will catch up to the establishment. We threw our order away and went somewhere else for a new purchase. read more

As you can tell from my picture, I'm am not Polish. But I know Polish people and Polish people frequent this little supermarket/deli! I recommend going for lunch - get a boxed lunch for under $6 and huge portions of homestyle food - think cabbage rolls which are SO GOOD. Usually there are several soups to choose from and your lunch includes a deli salad (ie. potato, cucumber & tomato, etc). I try to come here at LEAST once a month! read more

My fridge stinks of garlic. I mean, my fridge is currently retaining the incredible smell of the wondrous herb known as garlic. Once I actually cook the delicious-looking reasonably-priced kielbasa that I bought at Barbara's, perhaps the smell will abate. I live in Lombard. Why was it so hard for me to find a polish deli in the suburbs? I see "Mowimy Do Polski" on lots of store fronts, but it has been a difficult task to find kielbasa. And I don't mean "polish sausage." Big difference. Why so hard? Is it unofficial polski food? Is it akin to chop suey? Regardless, we love it enough to have had had it at our wedding reception. But that was in Toledo, where most last names end with the "ski" or "itch" phoneme. When you walk into Barbara's, you'll wonder if you're the only person in the deli that doesn't speak Polski. You might worry that no one behind the counter speaks English. But they do. When my wife found the big mound of kielbasa biala and saw how reasonable it was, we bought enough for Christmas dinner with my family and plenty of leftovers. And now my fridge is feeling the effect of all that garlic. I'll know on Christmas Day if the short trip to Addison was worth it. But I don't think I'll buy it in advance anymore. I love this place. I love that I can pick up dinner here because they always have some kind of Polish food ready to go. I can also find pretty much anything from my childhood here. Polish magazines, candy, cookies, soda, teas. It's fantastic. I have also never experienced anything negative here. Staff has always been helpful and kind to me. I love Polish food even though I'm not Polish and due to the high ratings. Rating a 1 star for Customer Service was not able to try out the FOOD! I went over to try it out. I was there around 6pm on Wednesday, June 13th . I was the 3rd person in line to be waitied on no one else was in the store when someone else walked in and when it was my turn the deli associate spoke to the lady in Polish and skipped me. I was so upset that I was waiting about 10min to be waited on. What came to mind was that I was just discriminated??? I just walked out the door. I want to know what happened to the staff that is customer friendly? Do they only work during lunch time? If the owner of the deli reads this and I hope they do please talk to your staff about this. I was told they had the best Paczki's and I went their and purchased a dozen and boy was I disappointed. They were awful. Hardly any filling and super chewy. I will never go back. I had to throw them out. I gave one to my friend who recommended the place and even she said they were terrible. She apologized and is not going back there either. read more

They have tasty lunch meats and sausages to choose from and delicious homemade lunches/dinners. I buy soups for my family here very often as I do not have much time to cook at home. Great service and wonderful selection but the quality and flavor is barely above average. I like to go there and have made it my "go-to" Polish deli because of the friendliness and smiles they offer, not to mention their patience in getting me the sausage & pierogies I want. They could spend a bit more on the quality of ingredients. By no means is their food bad, but it is obvious they go light on spending for the perfect kielbasa. This is the second, next to Helen's deli in Wood Dale, closest to Addison polish deli. The place is way overcharged. They also have some Aldi cans and they charge double. The kinder surprise egg 1.34 at Walmart, here 2.99. Went in about 5 times and every time I did, I got something that was not fresh. The ham was slimy and I called back and they try to tell You it is impossible. Also got some old Paczki, old rolls and old meat. Another time, I got a reheated dinner, and I do not mean from the hot plate that keeps the food warm, and parts of the meat were raw. Unless it was sitting there for 2 days, because it was mushy and just disgusting. I called in and there is that one rude lady (black hair) who doesn't know customer service at all and she knew better. The other ladies are really nice, I cannot really complain. They always sad good morning and they welcomed you at the store, hence I gave this place two stars. As mentioned in Helen's deli post, you'd better off driving to deli 4 you in Schaumburg, or White Eagle on north Ave in Glendale Hts if you want to stay local. I am surprised how this place is still opened and it's sad that that's how the Polish food is presented to others. read more

My mother always went here anytime for parties and holidays especially easter. I've sinced moved about 45 minutes away and still make my annual visit to Barbara's Polish Deli for polish sausage. I STILL haven't found one better. Yes there's garlic, but that makes the sausage. Easter morning is not Easter morning without GOOD sausage. I've tries other closer to my home, but still nothing boasts the flavor (and prices) of Barbara's. Their pierogis are home made, not frozen or Jewel bought. And every time I leave I need to get potatoe pancakes to eat on the way home (lots of napkins please). I am polish but since my great-grandma passed this is the closest to homemade polish food. I've been shopping there for over a year but I won't be going back after yet another round of spoiled food. This time it was their homemade chicken soup that apparently was made a week ago yet they were still serving it. The deli counter for sandwich meat is the only reason to shop there. Purchased a Groupon worth $50 for this deli and after having lunch meats, food items my wife went to check out. She was told that they do not accept Groupon vouchers,that they are new owners and made a "deal" with previous owner. The only reason my wife went to this deli was because of Groupon, was an opportunity to try it out. Long story short, they didn't tell Groupon, wouldn't honor. My wife felt obligated to purchase after having deli meat sliced, ordered, so she paid and left. Everything in Polish, no English. No signage saying new owners or Groupon not accepted. Just bought the Groupon last month and was valid until May 16,2016. Very rude to my wife and needless to say we will not be going back . I would've left the food there and walked out. Now I'm contacting Groupon to get my money back. GROUPON is NOT HONORED there! Possibly could have had some new customers for $10 ($40 paid for $50 Groupon). Very disappointed! I purchased a Groupon and couldn't wait to try the deli. I was told that the old owner did the Groupon and they were not excepting it. Big mistake! I work nearby so I intinially checked out this place during lunch hours. I found that they have home made lunches for under $6.00, I would recommend the breaded chicken cutlet with rice or mashed potatoes plus a salad of your choice, they also have several soups and especially tasty home made chicken noodle soup for 0.99 cents. I have made friends with the friendly staff and have learned that the have Home Made Smoked Sausages and other Home Made lunch meats made fresh without any preservatives every Thursday morning.... it's very very good. Good selection of other lunch meats and cheeses at much lower prices than dominicks or jewel.... Overall a great place!!! read more

i will never recomend this plase to any person i know. I am a mother with a todler that works realy hard and other they i was charge by mistake 22.29 extra i did not check my bill until early morning next day becouse my kid was sick and i forgot all about but i know that it seemed high for what i bought. Owner was not nice to me at all all she said that is to late . I was explaining whay that i soped to store late and by kid was sick but no she was just rud and hung up on me .
