A few friends and I stopped in for a drink around 10:30PM after the Giants Game. Located across from Oracle Park, Bar VIA is a cute modern bar with lots of table seating and a large bar area. They offer a nice range of specialty cocktails and small plates. We were completely full from eating at the game so we only ordered a cocktail to share. My friends and I sat at a table near the window. We asked for a menu from the bar table. I forgot the name of the cocktail that we ordered but I believe it had gin and rose infused syrup. I noticed that their cocktails were unique and contained flavored liqueurs such as elderberry, lavender, and rose. The bar was completely full, packed with giants fans who stopped in after the game, same as us. The bartender had a busy night so our drink took maybe around 7-9 minutes to complete. The music was nice. The noise level was a little high but that was to be expected given that there were so many people. One day I'll have to come back during the off season to see what the atmosphere is like. read more

Really great vibes at this rooftop bar attached to Hotel Via, beautiful views & great service! The drinks were delicious - the Amaretto Sour was the highlight. Some of the best tasting cocktails in SF in my opinion! The small plates (onion chips and dip) were good, but the apple pie dessert was pretty average. read more

Found Bar Via right around corner from Via Hotel & Oracle. It is only open during baseball and special events at the ballpark (according to bartender). There is food, beers on tap & hard liquor. Not sure if I saw wine. I saw four seats at the bar, but nice couches along the window wall & plenty of high tops for couples or groups. read more

The atmosphere was fantastic--cozy, lively, and perfect for a night out with friends. The decor was pretty good, and the music set a great vibe. However, the drinks were incredibly strong. The downstairs looks like your average bar, but the rooftop at night! Wow! You get super warm fire pits to sit around and hang out. We brought along our own donuts to enjoy, and didn't get any trouble for it. We loved the gorgeous bay bridge views up here! read more

Okay so I want to start this off by saying I NEVER leave bad reviews... but this is a new level of unsatisfied. The ambiance is cool but extremely cold and the heaters didn't work. Now to the food... we got the chips and salsa ($17 for this was insane), foccacia pepperoni pizza, steak and potatoes, and the pulled pork sliders. The guac and salsa Fresca were yummy but the beans were actually disgusting. It was like watery undercooked beans with some cotija cheese... pizza looked like it was a 5 dollar frozen pizza and tasted even worse. The steak and potatoes is NOTHING like you would imagine. It's over cooked steak (when I asked for medium rare) on top of burnt baked potatoes with cheap cheese on top. It tasted really dirty if that makes sense. The only saving grace was the pulled pork sliders but even then, they weren't worth that price. Can't complain about the drinks, they were great! We got the lavender Tito's mule (no lavender taste at all) and the Spiced Summer Delight (no alcohol). Definitely lacking in alcohol though... They tasted as though the bartender never poured any alcohol in them, just the mix. DO NOT TRY THIS PLACE, SAVE YOUR MONEY! read more

I wouldn't waste my time here. From what we heard, the food was good, but not rave-worthy. However, the servings we saw as we watched others dine were extremely small and grossly overpriced, especially considering the wide variety of nearby restaurants that offer tremendous food at much more reasonable prices. The main thing VIA has going for it is it's proximity to Oracle Park, which is immediately across the street. If you moved this establishment to almost any other location in SF, it would be out of business in less than three months. read more

Thanks to a friend, I had two drink tickets from a while ago, so we actually only paid for one drink. It was also my girlfriend's birthday, so they comped her drink. I ordered the manhattan. I'm glad it came with rye as I prefer that over bourbon. I find bourbon too sweet at times. The cocktail was nicely balanced. Our server was awesome! Very friendly and attentive. My gf wasn't sure what she wanted. She just knew she wanted something similar to an old fashioned, so he talked to the bartender and made her a special drink. He really went out of his way to make it a fun night as he knew it was her birthday. Nice, kind of modern bar with TVs. (Gotta get my sports on when my favorite teams are playing.) The rooftop was open on a warm Autumn night. Had a nice view of the Embarcadero and the baseball stadium across the street. Had a few light bites and enjoyed the pulled pork sliders and the flat bread. Great service, chill atmosphere. Came back and enjoyed the main bar which is downstairs. If I could give this bar no stars, I would but Yelp will not allow me. So here we are. Bar Via is across the street from the ballpark. The bar normally has janky hours - if they don't get any guests coming in they close early, even during home games. With that being said, I sometimes will visit this bar from time to time if the Tacoshop Cantina is crowded and I want to get my drink on before the game. Yesterday the Cantina was crowded so I went into the Bar Via thinking I could get a shot and a pint before I headed over to the game. I sat down at the bar and waited. And waited. And waited 10 minutes. The bar was crowded, and granted there were 2 bartenders working the bar. One stayed at the other end of the bar and the other worked the end I was sitting at. I watched other guests arrive after me. They got served. Mostly men and 1 woman about my age who had to wave down the bartender. When he walked over to my end of the bar I said "When you have a moment can you please get me a drink?" He was busy ringing up another guest and instead of saying "I'll be with you in a moment" he said "MmmmHmmm" (he had a pen in his mouth - gross). So I responded "Ok well I've been waiting for 10 minutes." and he responded the same. Not even an apology. I waited another 2 minutes and then ended up leaving because it was almost 6:00 and I was tired of waiting. I saw some other guests leave without getting served as well. This was the most horrible customer service I've ever received at any bar (And I've gotten my share of bad service). I plan on never visiting that bar again and will just head over to 58 Social where I can get a double Old Fashioned in a to go cup. read more

This was probably one of the best service experiences I've had the last few years! With some time to eat before Amauna, I ended up stopping into Bar Via as their menu boasted a charcuterie board. Figuring I would just ask for no cheese and get the steak bites as well I sat in a window corner where I could enjoy people watching while waiting for the honey to meet me. The server walked up and I found that during my entire meal, he was incredibly genuine and kind, going out of his way to take care of everyone. It turned out I could mix and match charcuterie items so I ended up getting two sides of meat and, man, I cannot even tell you how awesome this board was. Not only did it come with the two sides of meat, but grapes, candied nuts, jam, toast, mustard, gherkins, olives, and cantaloupe. It was exactly what I was hoping for, and absolutely the perfect amount of each side... all for $10, because each of the sides were $5. The wonderful server had the bartender make me a fancy mocktail, and I ended up getting tea (he refreshed the hot water and bag for me) as well as the steak bites. For $20, the bites were very plentiful, if not slightly overly seasoned. I ate them slowly, while waiting for the honey who finished the olives, gherkins, toast, and mustard off for me. We've been to Bar Via's a couple of times now, once before a Giant's game and once toward the end of the night. The service here is typically really amazing. I am especially a big fan of the bartenders who are very attentive and respond quickly to requests. The most recent night we were there we had the steak tacos, the tater tots, the pretzel bites, the pepperoni flatbread, and a round or two of drinks. All of the food was DELICIOUS. I was a huge fan of it. That said, there was a minor problem in getting us our food (a mix up between the bartenders and the servers) but it was rectified and didn't change how tasty the food was. Ultimately, this spot has super tasty food for a decent price given its prime location and good service. read more

Came here for a drink, first attracted by the idea of the rooftop bar but quickly to find that's reserved for private events and hotel guests. Curious anyways we sat at the bar for a few drinks and got to know Anthony, the bar tender, and experiment with the flavors on the menu. Overall the cocktails are themed and creative but a touch on the sweet side. They have a lot of potential for great development as their character grows and the bar is friendly and excited to experiment with you. We tried the personal pizza which came about 6 inch long delightfully cheesy dish with a delicious homemade ranch sauce. Great standard for a pizza fanatic and appropriately portioned. Before leaving we were given a tour of the roof top and were super impressed by the diversity of seating, with private cabanas available, heat lamps, fire pits and enclosed space with high tops, greenery and the bar. The view is excellent and being up there for a concert at ATT or when there's a game would be quite a fun adventure. Hoping to make it back and explore this new local spot! read more

Checked this place out before the SF Giants game and they had some really good deals. It's right across from Oracle Park and was a bit empty since the game had already stated. They had a beer and shot combo for only $12 which is a steal. It was a Modelo beer & Milagro tequila shot or a Coors Light beer & Jameson shot. They were out of Coors Light so they substituted it with an 805 beer which was even better! The bartender was very nice and they do have security checking ID's at the door. read more

We loved this hotel. Very minimalist and lovely. We went to the rooftop bar and Christopher was the best bartender ever. His drinks were excellent and he made us laugh after a long day. The pretzel and street tacos were good. And the view. I would also like to mention a few others, since we returned recently. The staff at the front desk were so friendly and helpful. Also, David at the rooftop was great. A couple tried to run a scam on him and he handled it so well. Also Kevin and Kain were very nice. And Chris took care of us in the downstairs bar and he remembered us. We missed him from last week lol. This hotel is lucky to have these people. Can't wait to come back! read more

TL;DR - STAY AWAY. Our server, Alexa, tipped herself an extra $30 on my card! I'm still so appalled. We came here for some drinks and the service was atrocious. Our server was completely MIA and we had to go physically track her down whenever we wanted something. In spite of this, I tipped her 10% - $10 on a $105 tab. I got my credit card statement and she conveniently changed the tip to $40 and closed me out at $145!!! I couldn't believe it. Luckily, I had photos of the receipt I signed as I was expensing this through work and I also had the original itemized receipt as well. I called the hotel and Matt, the financial controller, refunded me the overcharge. Unless you plan on meticulously checking your credit card statement after a night here, I would not recommend visiting. read more

A small group decides to bar hop the area. Because of the three day weekend, our primary destination is closed. We stumble across this nicely decorated bar across from the ball park and decide to park our rearends here. Unfortunately for me, I loaded up on chili fries at the last bar so I couldn't eat another bite but looking at the menu, I so wanted to try the "cheese/charcuterie." One member of our group went for the "hot nash chicken sandwich" and he being difficult to please gave it all thumbs up. I'm a milk stout man and YES, they had one on tap. Our bartender was without a doubt, one to make sure we were contented. We were given samples of this and that... Then it was time to catch the last train out of SF. Pricey drinks and even pricier automatic gratuity added for a party of 3.  I understand there's a large party on the rooftop bar that's spilling over to the hotel bar, but tell us before you add a 20% gratuity to my bill... The rooftop views is ok and prices are above NYC. But I will still give it 5 stars because according to locals, it's one of the best rooftops in SF and there aren't many here. The drinks were good too. It was sweater weather but there was fire pits everywhere which is really nice. Nice for a first date. 1 drink was $16 plus tax and the SF fee. The hotel was amazing. Great room and location is great right across street from giant stadium. My gf and I went to the hotel via bar and let me tell you the experience and food was amazing. Service by Cain was amazing. ( sorry if misspell name). He was amazing. My gf and I both were pleased by his service and recommendation for wine and beer. Most importantly his food recommendation. The chorizo pizza and steak bites ARE AMAZING!!! Get them for sure. Cain was right. Ask to be seated in his table. He was great. The hotel employees were just amazing. Very accommodating and nice. The white lady with red hair was totally unprofessional after the placed had barely closed, I asked if my party was able to use the restroom and was denied, she stated "because I lost your card, I only got a 3 dollar tip" as if it was my fault that they had lost my car to along with being charged for extra for drinks I didn't order on my tab, I was awaiting for them to give me my card after 10 mins. They found out they had it on the register instead. Just cuz I wasn't drunk enough doesn't mean ima pay extra for bad services. she legit said "f you for tipping me so low" but no if you didn't lose my card and messed up on what my tab then i would of tipped more. This bar has been my Giants post-game hangout. Because the place would be very busy, it could take some time to get a drink. This is understandable. After some time and some new hires, it became apparent that specific bartenders were serving specific customers (friends). On my last visit, after 52 minutes and 3 relocations at the bar, one random person noticed I had not been served. She took it upon herself to order for me. This nice gesture turned into another bad experience where the bartender gave this nice lady attitude for stating that we had been waiting for over twenty minutes. After finally receiving four drinks, the bill and terrible looks from the bartender, I opened the billfold to see a $110 charge for four tequilas. The nice lady brought this to the attention of the same bartender. Not only did she not know how to reverse the charge, she had to ask someone else to do it for her which took about 20 minutes. Mind you, I know for a fact this specific bartender was not relatively new. After receiving the corrected bill, I left to the Polo Grounds where I got my much needed second drink in less than 1 minute. This one night overshadowed the good nights I had at Bar Via. Would I come here again? Probably not. Polo Grounds and Woodbury seems like better options next season. read more

We were just sitting there enjoying ourselves when we heard that last call was approaching. naturally we went ahead and ordered another round but after overstaying our welcome we decided to take our drinks to go out of courtesy for the workers. The bouncer then watched one of us leave and instead of kindly calling him back inside he says that he was going to "KICK THIS GUYS ASS!" TOTALLY UNPROVOKED AND OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH PERSONAL ISSUES he follows us outside and attacks my whole family EVEN THOSE OF US THAT WERE SOBER and trying to deescalate the situation! He then knocks OUR DRINKS OUT OF OUR HANDS and heckles us all the way to our car!!! Absolutely uncalled for!!! If your going to be a bouncer at a bar one of the requirements should be: How to properly deal with your customers! NEVER COMING BACK!
