Saw someone in a food group post pics of the tenderloin and onion rings and had to try it out. Decided to go with BBQ since I was at a BBQ place. Started with smoked wings. Nice Smokey flavor and great rub. It was half price apps so five whole wings for $6. Also got an old fashioned. Some of the cheapest cocktails I've seen in Indy. Like half the price. Rib tips were tender and had really great flavor. Would definitely get those again. Pulled pork was meh. Didn't have any smoke flavor. Brisket was more like roast beef. It was good, but again no smoke flavor. Don't even see a smoke ring. I'd pass on that again. I feel like if you're a BBQ spot, your pulled pork and brisket should be some of your best stuff and this just fell short. Onion rings were fantastic as was my wife's greens. Mac and cheese tasted like it was from food supply and the fried cabbage was a little bland and mushy. Jalapeño corn bread was delicious. The meats are your traditional BBQ ones with pulled pork, chicken, beef brisket, St. Louis ribs, smoked sausage, boneless chops and fried or blackened catfish to name a few. I ordered the delicious Blackened Catfish served with sweet cornbread and choice of two sides. I opted for the tasty fried cabbage and perfectly prepared onion rings. I will definitely order this meal again. My husband ordered the Glazed Chicken served with a side of cornbread and choice of two sides with French fries and baked beans. The Glazed Chicken Sauce wasn't one of his favorites so he topped it off with the 7 Pepper Sauce from one of the sauce bottles on the table and loved the flavor and touch of heat. I drive down Main Street all time but this little place caught my eye, so I decided to drop on in. It was in the early afternoon, so I didn't have to wait long to be seated. The smell of the barbecue pit had the whole place smelling like heaven. I couldn't wait to order. The menu was simple and had a lot to choose from. I opted for the pick 2 dinner option: Smoked Sausage, Tipa, paired with coleslaw, mac and cheese, and baked beans. The rib tips were tender and had a delicious smokey flavor. The smoked sausage was also very very good. There were plenty of sauces to choose from. My favorite was the mustard flavor and sweet bbq sauce. Now, the sides were not that good to me. The coleslaw was a little bland and the mac n cheese consisted of noodles and nacho cheese sauce. The baked beans were good. This long, skinny bbq joint has a fantastic feel of a small town bar on a Saturday night. It had the air of a vacation town in the middle of Indy. Just a couple blocks from the track, we said it would be a fun place to visit on a race weekend but were pleased just to be there. We sat at a high top in the bar and enjoyed the Smoked Old Fashioned and the dangerously delicious Campy Punch. Our waitress told us the specials and then recommended her favorites (always appreciated). She suggested the pork and sausage paired with the baked beans and Mac and cheese. We had a gluten free diner in the party and were pleased to see 5 or more gf side options. I went with the ribs and sausage. Both were good, the sausage slightly better. The brisket had good flavor but neither it nor the ribs were as tender as I would like. The meat was all good, just maybe not award winning. (Hear me though, that is fine. Not every spot has the be the best place I've ever eaten.) There were 5 bottles of sauce on the table. The Sweet and the 7 Pepper were our favorites. I liked the Bourbon sauce initially but its high salt content quickly reared its head. It wasn't good on already seasoned meats. The baked beans were everyone's favorite item on the table. One person said "I could almost eat a whole bowl of just those." Overall, we really enjoyed our meal. Hoping to come back soon. Great for smaller parties. Getting a table with more than 4 people could mean some wait time. After a visit to the IMS newly renovated museum we headed to downtown Speedway for lunch. We returned to this where we have dined before. Wonderful table service and large portions. Deb and I went to Bourbon & Barbeque in Speedway for dinner last night, specifically to try their "Smoked Wings". Normally, wings aren't my thing, but we were just in the mood to try something new. We try to avoid most deep fried stuff, and since B&B's wings are smoked, we thought it might be a slightly healthier option. Our server "Dana" greeted us at our table with a big, welcoming smile. This is SO important to us! As I've said so many time, we're going out to eat for the total "experience", not just the food. She made us feel welcome and wanted. We ordered the wings off of the appetizer menu, and then added a sampler platter with stuffed jalapenos (baked), rib tips and fried mushrooms. (yeah yeah, sometimes we splurge on fried foods). Dana served our food hot and fast and our order was perfect! The wings did not disappoint. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The sampler platter was HUGE and more than enough to round out our meal. Barbeque & Bourbon has FANTASTIC breaded mushrooms and their stuffed jalapeno's are just out of this world! The breaded pork tenderloin was on special today. I wasn't super hungry, but who can pass up a deal on a Hoosier favorite! The bun was toasted, loaded with tasty homemade pickles, and the tenderloin was a little thicker than a typical one- which makes for more pork in each bite. Of course I ended up pigging out on this delicious sandwich. The parking lot to the side of the building has been redone, and the new patio area features a freshly painted community mural across the lot. I can't wait to come back and listen to the cars when they're on the track. Today it was quiet and serene sitting outside. My waitress was lovely as well. I really enjoyed my peaceful, late lunch today. My only complaint, which isn't really much of one, is that their to-go cups are humorously small. We came in to this gem for the first time during Devour Indy, and we'll definitely be back. The Devour special included an appetizer, four meats, four sides, cornbread, and dessert for two people for $35. We were STUFFED by the end of our meal and had to take dessert to go. We got the pretzels and beer cheese as our appetizer which was fairly standard. We chose ham steak, brisket, rib tips, and pulled pork as our meats. The brisket was my favorite because it was so tender, but the rest were great, too. The 7 Pepper Mustard sauce was hot in the best way. It had a kick to it but wasn't too spicy. The side portions seemed small for two people at first, but there was so much food that we didn't even finish. We chose green beans, mac n cheese, fried apples, and potato salad. Probably the best barbecue that I've had in all my years of living in indy! Usually, I dont go seeking out barbecue places, but we had a sample of their food at the Taco Run 5k, so we wanted to give them a real shot! Its a little small and cramped on the inside, but I feel like that's all restaurants on the main strip. There were only 2 patio tables, and those were both full. But we didn't mind, because although the inside was small and cramped, it actually made it super cozy! I believe our servers name was Amy. She was so sweet and attentive. They had a drink special that had whiskey in it, and I cringed and said I wasn't a whiskey drinker. However, she said she wasn't either, but encouraged me to try it. It was actually REALLY good!! Food wise, we split the largest combo that we could. That was a good call, because the combo is HUGE. I highly recommend splitting it with someone, or be prepared to take home a large to go box and have food for the next few days. We ordered brisket, ribs, pork, and catfish. However, they accidentally put shredded chicken on there instead, but they corrected it right away so we got to try both! They have multiple bbq sauces you can pick from, my favorite personally was the sweet. As far as food quality, I am very picky about my brisket. If its not done correctly, i think it tastes dry and old. This brisket was PERFECT. It was moist, tender, and had GREAT flavor. I will definitely be returning here whenever I'm craving bbq. Staff was extremely nice! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and our waitress was kind and attentive. As far as our dinner, we weren't pleased. The special were the $4 mojitos. I wasn't happy with it but they were ok. The greens were flavorful but dry (if that makes sense), the potatoes salad needed seasoning and the ribs and brisket were ok. The corn bread was bland but the onion rings was something that we really liked!!! I really didn't eat any of it. Our plates looked liked it hadn't been touched. I loved the fact that it seemed like a family oriented place. There were all kinds of people there...very diverse. I ordered The St Elmo Bourbon which was supposed to have two Luxardo Cherries in it. When I received it then I noticed the lack of the Cherry garnish that was mentioned in the menu description. I was a little bothered and wondered if they were out and failed to mention this to me. I let the waitress know and she apologized and took it to the bartender and returned with my drink and I'm pretty certain a garnish of maraschino cherries which have an unnatural bright injected red dye color...I was bothered that if they don't actually have the Luxardo Cherries the. They shouldn't advertise them in the description. Luxardo Cherries are soaked in liquor and dark in color whereas maraschino are soaked in a brine and food coloring and brightly colored with food coloring...Had I known then I would have changed the drink order! Very disappointing! I ordered the fried livers as my meal and let my waitress know I'd like them as my meal, not an appetizer. Then I ordered the cabbage which seems to be cooked with bacon and was delicious and the fried apples which are always delicious! My husband got the Cajun chops and when he noted they were dry then proceeded to use some of the famous bbq Sauce to help them palatable. My fried livers came way ahead of our food and my sides and at first I tried to wait, but as I realized that the rest of our food wasn't soon to appear began to eat without having my sides as intended and requested. Will we return, probably because it's one of the rare places I can get fried livers anymore. Next time I will try the Dirty Lemonade which we found out later was only $5.
