Had lunch with some friends at Barringer's Tavern. This place has quite the history dating back over 140 years - read about it on the website. It's a no frills gathering spot for good food and drinks. Our waitress was quite good - keeping us quenched with drink refills. I got the Hoosier Sandwich - a hand-cut breaded pork tenderloin - a thick, juicy tenderloin served with pickles, tomatoes, onions, mayo and lettuce - it was very juicy and tasty. Actually 4 of the 6 of us got this sandwich and everyone was pleased. FYI, it's located south of downtown on South Meridian and offers an attached parking lot for convenient parking. Barringer's is living history for Indy. Their menu provides the storied history of this quintessentially midwestern bar, dating back to 1879! My trivia group comes here on Mondays, which probably draws a decent crowd. Still, we always get quick and friendly service from Bridge and always a great dinner. Entrees are typically under $10 which is a rarity these days. You get your standard bar food here, and they have a pretty decent bacon-wrapped chili cheese dog. Holy. Soul. Food. This review is based solely on the food, the atmosphere was fine. I got the Hoosier Sandwich grilled. The bun, lettuce and pickles tasted just like they were supposed to, can't say about the onion because they forgot them. The tenderloin was so thin, it was literally thinner than the pickle slices, pathetic. Got the onion ring plate for the appetizer and they were so over cooked we didn't even eat them. Barringer's was a great experience. It was recommended to us by our friend's older brother and we had a blast. Ate a ton of food, affordable beer pitchers, and the size of the food is massive. I ate two pizzas and ordered wings and a sandwich and I was not ready. I definitely ate the food the next day! Also, the vibe of the place is really cool. This is what many would refer to as a dive bar. It's history is very interesting and impressive. It definitely needs some cleaning and updates. John Taffer could surely assist. We went for lunch recently. The service was just average and the food was below average. It was not busy but the food took a very long time to arrive. We didn't order anything complicated. My fries were cold. They were not good as well. The rest of the food was not very desirable. I heard their pizza was decent, but we did not order it. My burger reuben patty melt was not good as well. It was super greasy and the burger was too thick, flavorless and tough. I only ate half of it and it sat super heavy in my stomach like a rock the entire day. I didn't eat anything the rest of the day. It was messing with me the following day too. The bathrooms were not very clean and there was a rough odor which appeared to be coming from the plumbing. I tend to rate places by the shape of their bathrooms. I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. There's no reason not to keep things clean. Many of the tables around us were not bussed and cleaned as well. The health department would definitely appreciate this being up to specs too. I won't be going back. I need satisfaction from all angles when I go to a place to dine. As much as they charge for food when going out (even dive bars and fast food), I expect quality and comfort. We have a girlfriend lunch tradition on St. Patricks Day. The past 3 years we have gone to Barringer's. We are able to make a reservation so that is of course a plus on this day. The food and the service were all on point. The four of us try at least one new thing each year based on recommendations from the staff's answers to our menu questions. The age of our 4 person girlfriend group span 50 years!! So there is a wide variety of tastes to fulfill here. We all highly recommend the spiral potato chips and the garlic parmesan sauce. ( that sauce makes anything fabulous in our eyes!) The patty melt sandwich and sides of cottage cheese and Cole slaw were also consistently good. We also highly recommend a trip to the bathroom just for the decor alone. The race photos, cute signs about keeping the bathroom clean and the historic Teepee placards are worth the trip. Went for poker night. I was at first worried seeing everything served in baskets, but they did not disappoint AT ALL. The service was excellent. I'm so sorry that I did not get the waitress name but she was very kind and patient . I had a choice. Tenderloin or the fish and chips . Heard everyone talking both up big. Every item on the menu is so resonably priced!!!!!! I got the fish, and it was soooooo delicious. Then someone ordered the tenderloin and they looked soooooooooooo delicious as well. Barringer's has been around for over 130 years and I just made it here. Man, have I been missing out. This pub is very spacious, has a large indoor dining area, a full bar, and a decent sized parking area. The was very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I was skimming the menu and saw a bacon wrapped hot dog called the Last Chance Dog, and was like yes please. The pub's menu is packed with typical pub food like burgers, sandwiches, salads, and tenderloin. So much good food to choose from. The dog was good, but did not live up to all the hype I put on it, if that makes sense. I ordered the cajun fries and they were also good, but could have used a bit more seasoning. I really like this pub, it is a fun, historic, family place. My meal my not have been earth moving, but and was pretty good. The service however, more than made up for the little that the meal was lacking. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back. read more

We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and loved the overall feel of the establishment. The tavern has a 140 year history and we could immediately see why! We shared pizza, a burger, and the south village chislic and loved each item. They also offer a full bar with fantastic bartenders. We went early afternoon and had the chislic (bite size pieces of marinated steak), the breaded tenderloin (no picture) and the chicken tenders. You absolutely must go here. I honestly dont want to write more because the above is as succinctly as I can say what you need to know. If you give a single hoot about Indiana, this is a place you must visit. It is the second oldest bar establishment in Indiana and has an old-western saloon feel to it while it time-travels you to the Indianapolis of old. The food is good ole American and served as the basic menu you know and love but with some extra touches of style and nostalgia. It is also very reasonably priced and the service is impeccable. They have a bar, a dining area, and couches. Not to mention a full-scale game room in the back with pool, darts, fusbol, jenga, pinball, etc. I was there on a Tuesday with Kyleen keeping tabs behind bar and she was on point and gave great service. I've been driving past this place awhile now since it's renovation and finally stopped in today. Small tavern with a family side and bar side. Pizza and some local selections on draft. They had Beech Bank Brewery rye on tap.. I'm a sucker for dark beers so this was a great first time experience there. Pizza looked and tasted great, maybe if there is weak link it would be the crust itself. Cheese and sauce tasted great. Regardless, I will be back soon! A very small and quaint place yet very satisfying. We went on Sunday for "brunch". I had a spicy bloody mary and their special for the day which of course i dont rememeber the name of but it was very delicious. It was a grilled pork tenderloin with ham and cheese on top and all the fixins' and a side of chips. It was a very yummy sandwich and I didnt know if I would like it or not yet it was very tasty. And I also didn't expect it in a grilled version, when I think tenderloins in Indiana I think deep fried the traditional way. The bloody Mary was also very satisfying and spicy, hit the spot for a Sunday morning hangover. Would definitely like to go back and experience more of their food. We also shared an appetizer of spicy cheese balls which were yummy although for what they were priced at i would have expected a little bit more than what we got. To share.
