So.. I honestly feel like the business would care less if we were returning customers. It was just bad vibes as soon as we entered the establishment. Walked in and was not greeted. There was no one in the front/register but there was a man right behind the front counter. All the while we stood there, and he emptied two huge cans of pork beans into a bin, he never once acknowledged us. I seriously wanted to leave right then but my husband really wanted to try the place since he is an avid smoker. Not sure how long we actually stood there but a lady on the phone finally came around the corner and said hello to us. She was nice. Took our order and we sat. Spent between $50-60 and requested a receipt but was not given an itemized receipt. We ordered two combo plates (ribs, 1/4 chicken, smoked sausage, 2 sides) as well as the 6 piece smoked wings and a pint of the brunswick stew. We waited probably 10 minutes for our order to arrive. The man that was ignoring us earlier actually brought it to our table and we thanked him. Realizing we didn't have the brunswick stew my husband went to the front to let them know. The lady told us that they were still getting it and the man actually asked, "What?" in a pretty aggressive manner as if we were a bother. We wouldn't have asked if we were told that it was still coming.. The stew was actually pretty good. Better than a lot I've had before. Could use some more acid but that's not something a little hot sauce can't fix. Wish I would've received a spoon and some crackers I heard offered to another lady who ordered the same thing. The combo plate was a little underwhelming. Ribs were the end pieces of the rack being smaller than what would be typically served. The 1/4 chicken was two pieces of wings which I would not consider to be 1/4 of a chicken. Then we order a 6 piece wings as well not realizing we were already going to get wings.. In the pictures posted other customers actually received 1/4 chicken and actual full size ribs. The smoked sausage was generic smoked sausage off the grocery shelf as well as the texas toast. Sausage was chopped up so together it made up about a quarter link.. For $16.99 I feel we were jipped because we don't look like typical BBQ eaters we were pretty much given whatever could pass. Feeling a little offended. LOL Mac and cheese was actually decent. Potato salad was probably the only side completely homemade and was good. Eggs, mustard, pickles. My husband got the onion rings and fried corn in the cob. Looked really cool but that's pretty much it. Bbq sauce is baby rays.. I wanted to try a dessert but feeling very unwelcomed decided against it. After finishing up we got our things and left. My husband even said thank you to the lady up front as we walked out but of course she didn't hear us. With poboys just down the street with very good BBQ and even better service I'd suggest, do better.

Ribs, sausage and smoked chicken. Turnip greens and fried corn on the cob.

Always delicious!! I love their smoked chicken, it's a favorite of mine! Great food and great service!

Very poor BBQ. The staff acts like they don't care about you. The prices have changed since they opened.

Prices are too and the quality of their food has gone down. Plus they charge you to use your credit card.

BBQ was awesome, as was the mac and cheese, stew. The cobbler...well you won't believe me until you try it, it's the best I've ever had.

The food truck arrived and they set up quickly and efficiently. Yes, you could smell the wonderful grill going and the food did not disappoint. We had the bone-in chicken and pulled pork and it was tender and good! We had mac n chees, baked beans and brunswick stew, as our sides and they were also delish! Edee himself, was out at our event and he was kind, pleasant and efficient. (BTW, thank you for your service ~ Semper Fi!). His crew "D" and Tammy were pleasant and just wonderful to work with. We plan to use them again for another event. Thank you for the great food and great service!!!!

I hadn't been on Harbins Road in…read morequite some time, so it took me a little by surprise to see the once abandoned building that used to be a 1950's gas station open as a minimart. What surprised me even more was the trailer parked on the side selling BBQ! But the biggest surprise was experienced by my wife who knows how crazy picky I am about BBQ. "Seriously, you're going to turn the car around to try BBQ at a place you haven't yelped?" she asked. YUP!!!! The time was almost 7pm, which would have made this dark if we hadn't just went through a 'Spring Forward' weekend. The owner immediately apologized and informed me he was out of ribs, but allowed me to sample his pulled pork and chopped chicken. After looking over his menu board my eyes were drawn in by the words RIB TIPS. "I can't believe you have rib tips on your menu!" I exclaimed. "We sure do, where are you from?" he asked. "Chicago, where rib tips are a staple item on all true BBQ restaurant menus." Ironically one of his regular customers (who also happened to be from Chicago) walked up during this exchange and joined in with a little spirited banter of her own. We compared notes of our favorite Chicago BBQ restaurants and found we were in complete agreement. So why did I say I knew I was going to like this place even before I tasted the food? Well, before handing me a generous portion of sample meats, he insisted I try them WITHOUT the sauce. How did he know I prefer to taste BBQ that way? That is practically my BBQ pledge of honor: ----- I pledge allegiance, to the taste, of pork spare ribs everywhere! And to the smoky goodness, for which they stand, unsauced, with tenderness, and well-seasoned flavor for all! ----- Satisfied with the flavor, it was only then he revealed to me there were just a few tips remaining from earlier in the day. He removed them from hiding in a thermal container wrapped snuggly in Reynold's aluminum foil. I took them home along with homemade mac n' cheese and baked beans as my sides. I reheated them in the microwave for 2 minutes on 40% power. The rib tips and sides were so much better than I expected. So good in fact that I returned the following day for more of the same. I was also pleased this time he did have ribs available. One bite and his ribs had me feeling like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hevpHGPxRfU FINAL THOUGHTS I took a chance on a small business and scored a delightfully tasty surprise! The chopped chicken and pulled pork here are good, but the ribs and rib tips are my recommendation! The mac n' cheese is old school, kinda like my mom makes but with less seasoning. The baked beans have a cinnamon flavor that I've never experienced before, but really enjoyed. The owner assured me his meats are always ready by noon (Thursday through Sunday) and he remains until he sells out. If you are in the area and crave good BBQ, it would be worth your while to stop. I typically don't write reviews on roadside businesses because they tend to be fly by night establishments. Here one day and gone the next. But here's to hoping that the power of yelp will bring him enough business to stay put! 2016/62

As it being our first time, we were a little confused if we needed to wait for someone to seat us or not. There was no workers around..Then I saw a sign pointing to where we needed to order. (No table service, Smokey Gringo is counter service). We ordered 2 kids meal chicken quesadillas, 4 tacos, 2 empanadas, a side of corn, and 2 additional fountain drinks. My total was about $80. The tacos were ok, they were lacking flavor. When I picked up my carne asada taco there was so much liquid dripping onto my tray, but sadly it tasted a little overcooked. The empanadas were huge but dry, even though there was sauce drizzled all over it. The chips were nice and crispy. ** Street parking is available. There was also a small parking lot across the street. Smokey Gringo offers both outdoor and indoor seating. We choose to sit inside. Their prices are pretty high for the little amount of food you get.
